Editor of NaturalNews.com

(NaturalNews) The state of Michigan is only days away from engaging in what can only be called true "animal genocide" -- the mass murder of ranch animals based on the color of their hair. It's all part of a shocking new "Invasive Species Order" (ISO) put in place by Michigan's Department of Natural Resources (DNR). This Invasive Species Order suddenly and shockingly defines virtually all open-range pigs raised by small family farms to be illegal "invasive species," and possession of just one of these animals is now a felony crime in Michigan, punishable by up to four years in prison.

The state has said it will "destroy" these pigs beginning in April, potentially by raiding local farms with government-issued rifles, then shooting the pig herds while arresting the members of the family and charging them with the "crime" of raising pigs with the wrong hair color. This may truly be a state-sponsored serial animal killing spree.

Reality check: You may think this story is some kind of early April Fools prank, but it isn't. This is factually true and verifiable through the documents, videos and websites linked below. The state of Michigan seriously intends to unleash a mass murder spree of pigs of the wrong color beginning April 1.

Yet these are the very pigs that farmers and ranchers in Michigan have been raising for decades. The state doesn't seem to care about this, and there are indications that this ISO may have been nudged into position by the conventional pork industry as a tactic to wipe out its competition of local, specialty ranching conducted by small families and dedicated farmers who don't work for the big pork corporations. (The Michigan Pork Grower's Association.)

Hear the shocking interview and watch the family farm video...

I have recorded an exclusive interview with Mark Baker from Baker's Green Acres -- one of many ranching operations threatened with total destruction by state bureaucrats and this new Invasive Species Order. Listen to that interview here:

AUDIO : http://buzz.naturalnews.com/000025-Michigan-pigs-invasive_species.html

The Baker family has also recorded a video explaining their farming operation and how the state of Michigan is threatening to destroy their entire farming operation. Watch that stunning video (and spread the word about it) at:

VIDEO : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=843yH_0RMIA

Mark Baker, by the way, is a veteran of the United States Air Force. As a veteran of the U.S. armed forces, he served to protect the rights of others, yet he now finds his own rights and freedoms under assault by the state of Michigan. He told NaturalNews he is determined to protect his livelihood at all costs and to take a stand against tyranny in Michigan.

Got the wrong hair color? The state of Michigan will kill you

The state of Michigan has issued a document describing nine "traits" of what they call "feral pigs" which they claim should be destroyed on April 1.

Read the document describing those nine traits at:
http://www.michigan.gov/documents/dnr/MDNR_DECLARATORY_RULING_2011-12... (Next post or go to the link down below to open it).

Those traits include having the wrong color on the tip of the hair or even being born with striped hair. The traits are written so that virtually all pigs raised by family ranchers across the state of Michigan will be targeted for destruction by the state of Michigan starting April 1. Farmers who defend their livestock may be arrested as felons and charged with multiple felony crimes by the state.

Michigan to destroy pigs based on the color of their hair - racial profiling for animal murder

Here's some of the language from the Michigan document describing which animals are to be destroyed. Remember: For a pig to qualify as "feral" according to state tyrants, it only has to exhibit ONE of these traits, not all of them:

1) Bristle-tip coloration: exhibit bristle tips that are lighter in color (e.g., white, cream, or buff) than the rest of the hair shaft.

2) Dark point coloration: exhibits "points" (i.e., distal portions of the snout, ears, legs, and tail) that are dark brown to black in coloration, and lack light-colored tips on the bristles.

3) Coat coloration: exhibit a number of coat coloration patterns: solid black, solid red / brown, black and white spotted, black and red / brown spotted.

4) Underfur: exhibit the presence of underfur that is lighter in color (e.g., smoke gray to brown) than the overlying dark brown to black bristles/guard hairs.

5) Juvenile coat pattern: exhibit striped coat patterns -- a light grayish-tan to brown base coat, with a dark brown to black spinal stripe and three to four brown irregular longitudinal stripes with dark margins along the length of the body.

6) Skeletal appearance: Structures include skull morphology, dorsal profile, and external body measurements including tail length, head-body length, hind foot length, ear length, snout length, and shoulder height.

7) Tail structure: Straight tails.

8) Ear structure: Erect ear structure.

9) "Other characteristics not currently known to the MDNR that are identified by the scientific community
."

Did you catch that last one? So now the so-called "scientific community" can simply invent whatever trait they want and the state of Michigan will legalize the mass murder of all ranch animals displaying that trait.

The state of Michigan plans to bring guns to destroy local food, local farms

What's clear from all this is that Michigan bureaucrats plan to bring guns and handcuffs to ranches all across Michigan, shooting their family livestock dead and ruining their farming operations. They then plan to arrest these ranchers as felons and separate them from their families, then charge them with felony crimes.

This is all being done under the mantra of "government is good! Government protects you!" It's being pushed under the guise of protecting people from "invasive species," yet what the Michigan bureaucrats don't tell anyone is that now your local food producers have had their own ranch animals placed on that list!

That's the trick here: Michigan has declared farm animals to be an invasive species!

An epic battle of truth, freedom and justice is being waged in Michigan

We need your help to defend farm freedom in Michigan and across the country. Here are some actions you can take:

1) SHARE this article.

2) WATCH the video: http://youtu.be/843yH_0RMIA

3) LISTEN to the interview at:
http://buzz.naturalnews.com/000025-Michigan-pigs-invasive_species.htm...

4) SUPPORT the Farm-To-Consumer Legal Defense Fund:
http://www.farmtoconsumer.org/

4) DONATE to help support the legal fees of the Baker family farm. Their website is at http://www.bakersgreenacres.com/

5) DEMAND farm freedom in your area! No government has the right to tell us what food we can or cannot grow, eat or trade! It's as simple as that, and any government bureaucrat, tyrant or local dictator who thinks they can trample on your God-given right to choose what kind of food you wish to produce or consume is in desperate need of having a boot shoved deeply and forcefully up their rear ends.

Give tyrants the boot! Defend local farms. Even if you don't eat pork (I don't), this is still a farm freedom issue worth fighting for.

MICHIGAN DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES

In the Matter of Michigan Animal Farmers Association
Request for Declaratory Ruling Part 413 (Transgenic and Nonnative Organisms), of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act, 1994 PA 451, as Amended, MCL 324.41301 et seq.
Invasive Species Order Amendment No. 1 of 2011

DECLARATORY RULING

December 13, 2011

Jurisdiction

Petitioner, the Michigan Animal Farmers Association, has requested a declaratory ruling from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) concerning the scope and factual application of Invasive Species Order Amendment No. 1 of 2011 issued by the MDNR pursuant to Part 413 (Transgenic and Nonnative Organisms) of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act, 1994 PA 451, as amended.

MCL 324.41301, et seq. Both Section 63 of the Administrative Procedures Act, MCL 24.263, and Rule 95 of the administrative rules pertaining to the organization and general functions of the MDNR, MAC R 299.3095, authorize the MDNR, upon request, to issue a declaratory ruling as to the applicability to a state of facts of a statute, rule, or order administered or issued by the department. The MDNR has determined that the issuance of a declaratory ruling in response to the instant request by the Petitioner is appropriate.

Background

MCL 324.41302(1) and (3) authorize the Commission of Natural Resources, by order, to add to or delete from the list of prohibited species or restricted species under MCL 324.41301.
That statutory authority was transferred from the Commission to the former Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environment (MDNRE), by Executive Order 2009-45, effective January 17, 2010, and then to the MDNR, by Executive Order 2011-1, effective March 13, 2011.

On December 9, 2010, after public notice, comment and consultation with the Department of Agriculture, the DNRE issued Invasive Species Order Amendment No. 1 of 2010. That Order provided that, effective July 8, 2011, the Invasive Species Order was amended to read as follows:

Declaratory Ruling -2- December 13, 2011

“By authority conferred on the Department of Natural Resources by section 41302 of the Natural Resources Environmental Protection Act, 1994 PA 451, as amended, MCL 324.41302, and Executive Orders 2009-45, 2009-54, 2011-1, and 2011-2, and in consultation with the Department of Agriculture, it is ordered that effective July 8, 2011 the following section(s) of the Invasive Species Order shall be amended as follows:

40.4 Additional prohibited species.

(1) Possession of the following live species, including a hybrid or genetic variant of the species, an egg or offspring of the species or of a hybrid or genetically engineered variant, is prohibited:

(a) New Zealand mud snail (potamopyrgus antipodarum).
(b) Wild boar, wild hog, wild swine, feral pig, feral hog, feral swine, Old world swine, razorback, eurasian wild boar, Russian wild boar (Sus scrofa Linnaeus). This subsection does not and is not intended to affect sus domestica involved in domestic hog production.
(c) The department shall consult with staff from the Michigan department of agriculture on the development of a phased compliance protocol for the implementation of this section.”

Pursuant to Executive Order 2011-1 dated March 13, 2011, the MNDRE was abolished and its functions, including authority to administer Part 413, were transferred to the MDNR.

Pursuant to subsection 40.4(1)(c) of Invasive Species Order Amendment No. 1 of 2010, the MDNR consulted with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (the successor agency to the Department of Agriculture under Executive Order 2011-2) on the development of a phased compliance protocol under this section. The MDNR publicly announced that under its phased compliance protocol, it would defer determinations of compliance with the prohibition added by Invasive Species Order Amendment No. 1 of 2010 until after March 31, 2012.

On August 8, 2011 the MDNR issued Invasive Species Order Amendment No. 1 of 2011 (ISO), which provides that effective October 8, 2011, the Invasive Species Order is amended to read as follows:

“By authority conferred on the Department of Natural Resources by section 41302 of the Natural Resources Environmental Protection Act, 1994 PA 451, as amended, MCL 324.41302, and Executive Orders 2009-45, 2009-54, 2011-1, and 2011-2, and in consultation with the Department of Agriculture, it is ordered that effective October 8, 2011 the following section(s) of the Invasive Species Order shall be amended as follows:

Invasive Species Order Amendment No. 1 of 2011 took effect on October 8, 2011.

The MDNR has reiterated that under its phased compliance protocol, it will defer determinations of compliance with the prohibition added by Invasive Species Order Amendment No. 1 of 2010 and Invasive Species Order Amendment No. 1 of 2011 until after March 31, 2012. Declaratory Ruling -3- December 13, 2011 Request for Declaratory Ruling The Petitioner requests a declaratory ruling as follows:

“Pursuant to MCL § 24.263, "an agency may issue a declaratory ruling as to the applicability to an actual state of facts of ... [an] order of the agency." Here, the actual state of facts are thus: MDNR has issued the ISO which makes it unlawful to possess the above described breeds of swine "or of a hybrid or genetically engineered variant" of those breeds. MAFA's
members breed and raise captive swine, and, therefore, they are requesting that MDNR specify and declare, by way of a declaratory ruling, the exact standards that MDNR will be utilizing to determine the hybrid, genetic variants and offspring of prohibited swine.

Specifically, what kind of qualitative testing will the MDNR be conducting and what results will determine if a specific animal is a hybrid, genetic variant or offspring of the prohibited swine listed in the ISO?”

Response

Based upon the recommendations of MDNR staff with relevant experience and who have reviewed available scientific literature and consulted with other scientists, the MDNR has developed the following approach to the identification of animals prohibited under the ISO.

There are two means by which a species can be correctly identified: by genotype or by phenotype. Genotype refers to the unique genetic make-up of the species.

Phenotype refers to the expression of those genes, which results in specific physical, biochemical, or behavioral characteristics.

In its enforcement of the ISO and Part 413 of 1994 PA 451, as amended, the MDNR will use phenotype to identify Sus scrofa and distinguish it from other species.

Identification may include use of one or more of the following characteristics (Mayer and Brisbin 2008):

• Bristle-tip coloration: Sus scrofa exhibit bristle tips that are lighter in color (e.g., white, cream, or buff) than the rest of the hair shaft. This expression is most frequently observed across the dorsal portion and sides of the snout/face, and on the back and sides of the animal’s body.
• Dark “point” coloration: Sus scrofa exhibit “points” (i.e., distal portions of the snout, ears, legs, and tail) that are dark brown to black in coloration, and lack light-colored tips
on the bristles.
• Coat coloration: Sus scrofa exhibit a number of coat coloration patterns. Patterns most frequently observed among wild/feral/hybrid types are: wild/grizzled; solid black; solid
red/brown; black and white spotted; black and red/brown spotted.
• Underfur: Sus scrofa exhibit the presence of underfur that is lighter in color (e.g., smoke gray to brown) than the overlying dark brown to black bristles/guard hairs.
Declaratory Ruling -4- December 13, 2011
• Juvenile coat pattern: Juvenile Sus scrofa exhibit striped coat patterns. This consists of a light grayish-tan to brown base coat, with a dark brown to black spinal stripe and three
to four brown irregular longitudinal stripes with dark margins along the length of the body.
• Skeletal appearance: Sus scrofa skeletal structure is distinct. Structures include skull morphology, dorsal profile, and external body measurements including tail length, headbody
length, hind foot length, ear length, snout length, and shoulder height.
• Tail structure: Sus scrofa exhibit straight tails. They contain the muscular structure to curl their tails if needed, but the tails are typically held straight. Hybrids of Sus scrofa
exhibit either curly or straight tail structure.
• Ear structure: Sus scrofa exhibit erect ear structure. Hybrids of Sus scrofa exhibit either erect or folded/floppy ear structure.
• Other characteristics not currently known to the MDNR that are identified by the scientific community.

Ongoing advancements in science may provide additional phenotypic or genotypic tools to aid in the identification of Sus scrofa. The MDNR may use these tools as they become available.

The MDNR may use previous inspection data for a facility, as well as advertisements that specify the existence of swine at a facility, as factors for determining whether a facility should be inspected for prohibited swine subject to the ISO.
Issued on this 13th day of December, 2011

MICHIGAN UNLEASHES ARMED RAIDS ON SMALL PIG FARMERS, FORCES FARMER TO SHOOT ALL HIS PIGS

Mike Adams
NaturalNews
April 16, 2012

NaturalNews can now confirm that the Michigan Department of Natural Resources has, in total violation of the Fourth Amendment, conducted two armed raids on pig farmers in that state, one in Kalkaska County at Fife Lake and another in Cheboygan County. Staging raids involving six vehicles and ten armed men, DNA conducted unconstitutional, illegal and arguably criminal armed raids on these two farms with the intent of shooting all the farmers’ pigs under a bizarre new “Invasive Species Order” (ISO) that has suddenly declared traditional livestock to be an invasive species.

See our previous report on this subject at:

http://www.naturalnews.com/035372_Michigan_pigs_farm_freedom.html

And hear my interview with Mark Baker, who runs one of the farms to be targeted by the Michigan government, at:

http://tv.naturalnews.com/v.asp?v=67C793DC0503D209399C21450485DA07

The ISO also deems farmers who raise these pigs to be felons, and DNR officials were ready to make arrests on the scene and haul away these farmers to be prosecuted as hardened criminals.

Farmer forced to shoot his own baby piglets in cold blood

“I think this is an unconstitutional order, these actions of the DNR are way out of bounds,” attorney Joseph O’Leary told NaturalNews in an interview today. He is representing one of the farmers who was targeted in these raids. “To take what was six months ago an entirely legal activity, and suddenly people are felons over it. They’re not growing drugs, running guns or killing anybody, they’re raising animals pursuant to USDA regulations and state of Michigan regulations. They haven’t done anything wrong here, and the DNR is treating them like they are hardened criminals.”

In anticipation of the DNR arriving on the scene, one farmer engaged in what can only be described as a heart-wrenching task of shooting his own pigs, one by one, including baby piglets before the DNR arrived. This was to avoid being arrested as a felon. His livelihood is now completely destroyed, as the state of Michigan has put him out of business. Even after this farmer informed the DNR that he had destroyed his entire herd of pigs, the DNR continued to illegally acquire a search warrant by providing false information to a court Judge, then conducting an armed raid on his ranch to verify that the entire herd of pigs had indeed already been shot to death. That this took place satisfied the DNR, which is now showing itself to be engaged in the mob-style destruction of targeted farming businesses through its mass-murder agenda of Michigan’s small-scale farm pigs.

“It was very traumatic for him. These guys are farmers, and I know how much he cared for the animals there, and the DNR treats these like they’re some kind of a plant that needs to be exterminated rather than animals that people care about,” said O’Leary.

One of the raids targeted Ron McKendrick of Renegade Ranch in Cheboygan County. His ranch was raided on Saturday morning, and DNR agents reportedly conducted an interrogation of his customers and his 75-year-old senior citizen employee.

NaturalNews calls for an armed citizens’ arrest of DNR agents in Michigan

Based on the actions of the DNR, it is my belief that the DNR is a rogue, criminal gang of government thugs who are murdering livestock, destroying the lives of farmers, violating the constitutional rights of Michigan citizens and engaging in outrageous acts of destruction of private property.

As the editor of NaturalNews, I am hereby calling for the armed citizens’ arrest of DNR officials who must be brought to justice for their crimes against Michigan farmers. Every agent of the DNR that participated in these raids must be brought to justice to answer for their crimes. If the use of force is necessary to make a lawful and legal arrest of these criminal Michigan government agents, then such use of force is fully authorized under the United States Constitution as well as the Constitution of the State of Michigan. In Texas, the state Constitution even says that farmers have the right to use lethal force to prevent someone from committing a felony crime against their property. This includes shooting horse thieves, for example, and being in the right to do so.

While I’m not sure if the Michigan constitution provides for such defense of private property, no government has any right to terrorize its citizens in the way that has been witnessed here with the DNR of Michigan. These people are utterly out of control, waging a private armed war against selective targets, using taxpayer money to destroy the lives of productive Michigan citizens. These DNS agents are dangerous and clearly psychologically imbalanced. They desperately need to be taught a lesson in lawful government and the rights of citizens. They need to be arrested and serve time to rethink their crimes against the People of Michigan.

While I do not espouse the use of violence to resolve issues with government, when innocent farmers are faced with being raided by criminal gangs of rogue government operatives who are forcing them to destroy their entire livestock herds, there is little choice but to bring out the rifles and arrest these criminals at gunpoint and bring them to justice in the court system where they must face charges of conspiracy, destruction of private property, the violation of the civil rights of private citizens, illegal trespassing and much more. This is the whole point of the Second Amendment, by the way: To give the People some balance of power so that they might protect themselves against the overzealous, tyrannical agendas of out-of-control governments which inevitably try to rule over the People as violent dictators.

Take action: Join the hearing this Friday

A court hearing is scheduled this Friday at 9:00 am at the courthouse in Cheboygan County. I have been told that a very important legal strategy to halt this DNR madness will be unveiled in the courtroom that morning. Ron McKendrick, whose ranch was raided by DNR over the weekend, will be appearing in this hearing.

I am calling upon all patriots, farmers and food rights activists in Michigan to be there on Friday morning and join in this show of support for farming freedom and fundamental human rights. Do we not have the right to raise livestock without the state raiding our property and murdering our animals? And why is this not being covered in the national media?

Also: This battle continues to be waged by Mark Baker at http://www.bakersgreenacres.com/ who desperately needs additional legal funds to continue his fight against the out-of-control government tyrants in Michigan who are trying to destroy farms. Please check his website for updates and make a small donation (even $5 or $10 helps) using the “Donate” button on his website.

NaturalNews will continue developing this story and we anticipate bringing you more details after the Friday hearing. In the mean time, I will continue to call for an armed citizens’ arrest of DNR officials who are now, by any standard, runaway criminal thugs who are operating under the false cover of government. If anyone has a list of the names of these people, please contact NaturalNews with that list so that we can publish them under a “WANTED FOR CRIMES AGAINST THE PEOPLE” heading as we continue to call for their arrest.

Watch NaturalNews for more breaking news on this front. In the mean time, as a message to Michigan farmers: Yes, they really ARE coming for you. You need to get together and stage a 20-man posse to catch these thugs and arrest them at gunpoint, then haul them into the local Sheriff’s office to face some serious jail time.

HOGWASH! AUTHORITIES KILL FERAL PIGS IN MICHIGAN

The Michigan State Department of Natural Resources has outlawed feral pigs. They say that the now-illegal swine are considered invasive and, as of April 1, they can arrest farmers that own hogs that match nine characteristics described by the state. THE DISEASE WHICH IS TURNING BRITISH CATS INTO LIVING ROBOTS... AND EXPERTS SAY THERE'S NO CURE

The cats had outdoor access and lived in the same rural area of Scotland

Now cats with a similar condition have been found in Sweden and Austria

By Fiona Macrae
PUBLISHED: 14:30 GMT, 16 April 2012 | UPDATED: 23:02 GMT, 16 April 2012

Cats are being struck down by a mystery disease that turns them into 'living robots'.

Their legs become rigid, giving them an odd, stiff gait, their personality changes and their tail stiffens and sticks out.

There is no known treatment or cure. The symptoms become progressively worse and the animals are put down when their suffering becomes too much.

Victims become over affectionate, their movement becomes stiffer and they are increasingly disorientated with difficulty grooming

All the cats with the condition appear to have a slowly progressing neurological disease had outdoor access and lived in the same rural area of Scotland

Dr Luisa De Risio, writing for the Journal of Feline Medicine and Surgery, said that all the cats with the disease lived rurally

The condition has baffled vets, as tests for numerous viruses have come back negative. Their best guess is that the pets caught the disease while out hunting.

Around 50 cases have been spotted in Scotland in the past decade, along with one in Liverpool, but researchers believe more may have gone unreported elsewhere.

The outbreak appears to be centred in a rural area between Inverness and Aberdeen.

Vets there have treated around 20 'robotic' cats, including two that have only recently become ill.

Jeannette Andrew, of the Strathbogie Veterinary Centre in Aberdeenshire, said: 'They look like robots.

'They get a bit lost and get stuck in corners and don't know how to reverse and turn round.'

Danielle Gunn-Moore, a professor of feline medicine at Edinburgh University, said: 'Their head is forward, their chin is slightly down, their ears are forward and they have a very stiff walk and a stiff tail … They walk like robots.'

The condition also affects personality, with most of the sick animals becoming more affectionate. Some, however, become aggressive.

As it doesn't seem to spread between cats and all the sick animals are avid hunters, experts believe the most likely source to be a mutant virus carried by mice or voles.

Professor Gunn-Moore said: 'We have looked in the blood, in the brain fluid and in brain sections.

'We have looked for the presence of viruses in the brain and so far we've been able to rule out vast numbers but can't find the one that's causing it.'

Vets have tried treatments including painkillers, vitamins, antibiotics and drugs normally given to multiple sclerosis sufferers, but none has held the disease at bay.

The animals, which are usually elderly, gradually become more disabled and when they start to find it hard to swallow, they are usually put down – normally within a year of falling ill.

So far the 'robotic cat' in Liverpool is the only one treated outside Scotland, and it is believed it may have caught the disease while living in the Highlands.

A similar condition, known as 'staggering disease' has been seen in Sweden and Austria. However the cats there do not develop stiff tails.

Experts are now looking to find a cure as most of the cats had to be humanely put down after about 11 months of developing the disease

28,613 DEAD FISH IN THE ROCKY RIVER

Posted by Vince Grzegorek on Tue, May 1, 2012 at 2:46 PM

Update: Analysis of the dead fish and the water has yielded nothing in terms of a lead in the fish kill case, according to authorities.
According to Strongsville Patch, the Ohio EPA reported tests results as "inconclusive," though they think a chemical was dumped in the water near Pearl Rd.
***
The Ohio Division of Wildlife got a call on Sunday from a fisherman who told the agency they should probably come see the flood of fish carcasses in the Rocky River.

60,000 TO 100,000 DEAD FISH WASH UP EASTERN SHORES OF U.S. NEAR CHESAPEAKE BAY

Posted on May 24, 2012by The Extinction Protocol
May 24, 2012 – MARYLAND – Something’s rotten on the Baltimore area waterfront. Fish are washing ashore by the thousands in a mass die-off that officials say appears to be caused by a weather-driven worsening of the pollution that chronically plagues the Chesapeake Bay. State investigators expanded their probe Wednesday into what they believe are algae-related fish kills in Marley, Furnace and Curtis creeks in Glen Burnie, raising the estimated death toll there tenfold, while finding a new batch of finny carcasses in a Dundalk creek. Jay Apperson, spokesman for the Maryland Department of the Environment, said the agency’s fish-kill investigators estimated anywhere from 60,000 to 100,000 fish of several species dead in the three creeks in northern Anne Arundel County. Only a day before, Apperson had said investigators figured there were about 6,000 dead.

COLOMBIA REPORTS ANTHRAX LIVESTOCK DEATHS AND SKIN LESIONS
By Rudy Ruitenberg on May 30, 2012

Colombia reported livestock deaths from anthrax on two farms in the country’s north near the border with Venezuela as well as a person with skin lesions.

The disease killed goats, sheep and pigs on two farms in the La Guajira community, the first outbreaks in the country since April last year, and a person was found to have skin lesions, according to a notification by the Agriculture Ministry to the Paris-based World Organization for Animal Health dated May 28 and published online today.

Anthrax, which has been used as a biological weapon, is caused by the bacterium Bacillus anthracis and can survive in soil decades after an outbreak, according to the animal health group, known by its acronym OIE. Anthrax can cause skin infections that can be treated with antibiotics, as well as more severe lung infections, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

JAPON, DES DIZAINES DE TONNES DE SARDINES S'ÉCHOUENT MYSTÉRIEUSEMENT DANS UN PETIT PORT DE PÊCHE, L'ODEUR DANS LA VILLE EST PESTILENTIELLE

mardi 5 juin 2012

HIGHLY PATHOGENIC H7N3 OUTBREAK IN MEXICO- LARGEST IN NEARLY 20 YEARS: MILLIONS OF CHICKENS COULD BE CULLED

Posted on June 27, 2012by The Extinction Protocol

June 27, 2012 – MEXICO – Mexican veterinary authorities are intensifying avian influenza control efforts in a region that houses several large commercial farms after further tests determined that the strain responsible for more than 200,000 bird deaths at three farms is the highly pathogenic H7N3 subtype. The events represent the first highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreaks in Mexican flocks since the country battled H5N2 in the mid 1990s. In a follow-up report submitted today to the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), Mexican animal health officials said intravenous pathogenicity tests revealed the highly pathogenic H7N3 subtype. The initial report on Jun 21 said preliminary tests suggested a low-pathogenic H7 subtype. The outbreaks began at three large commercial farms in Jalisco state on Jun 13, causing clinical signs in the layer flocks that included gasping, lethargy, fever, and death. The disease sickened 587,160 of more than 1 million susceptible birds, killing 211,424 of them. About 60,000 have been culled so far to curb the spread of the virus.

HEAT WAVES KILLS THOUSANDS OF FISH IN MINNESOTA LAKES

Posted on July 11, 2012by The Extinction Protocol

July 11, 2012 –MINNESOTA – The recent heat wave is blamed for killing thousands of fish in several southern Minnesota lakes. Most of the lakes are shallow, and thus more susceptible to summer fish kills, and most of the fish were northern pike, which prefer cold water. Affected waters include Geneva Lake north of Albert Lea, where Department of Natural Resources officials say several thousand northerns probably died, and Fountain Lake in Albert Lea, where hundreds of northerns floated up last weekend. Jack Lauer, the regional fisheries manager in New Ulm, says he’s heard of about 10 to 15 affected lakes.

Poissons morts Parc Saint Jean

ANTHRAX LIKELY KILLED 128 BISON IN THE N.W.T.

CBC – Fri, 6 Jul, 2012.. .
Anthrax spores occur naturally in the ground in the area. In certain conditions, …
Anthrax is believed to have killed 128 bison northwest of Fort Providence, N.W.T.

The carcasses were found close to Mills Lake during a routine anthrax surveillance flight this week.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources has issued an anthrax emergency response plan to deal with the potential outbreak.

“A field test on a couple of carcasses did turn out positive,” said Judy McLinton, the department’s spokeswoman. “Given the number of carcasses and the chance when they looked at them that it was probably or potentially anthrax, we activated our emergency response plan.”

HOT WEATHER SENDS THOUSANDS OF FISH TO THEIR GRAVES

by Outdoor Hub Reporters on July 9, 2012
submitted by: Agnieszka Spieszny

Fish are showing up dead by the thousands on shores across the United States. Scientists say high temperatures leading to low dissolved oxygen levels and excessive microscopic algae bloom are the likely causes of some 6,000 gizzard shad and 600 adult white perch deaths in Delaware.

CHINESE CITY DECLARES WAR ON PIRANHAS

Reuters – 7 hours ago

BEIJING (Reuters) - A southern Chinese city is on the alert for piranhas after two people were attacked in a river, and is offering a 1,000 yuan ($160) reward for every fish caught, dead or alive, state media reported on Thursday.

The government of Guangxi region's Liuzhou is asking people to hunt the alien South American species, which badly bit two people earlier in the week who were paddling in the Liujiang River, the China Daily said.

"Fishing with nets is not allowed in the section of the river that flows through the city, but we have made an exemption. Five fishing boats with experienced fishermen have been deployed on the river since Monday," Liuzhou official Wei Yongwen told the newspaper.

"In addition, more than 40 other fishermen from the local fishing association have joined us as well. They all use small pieces of pork as bait."

Other people have taken up position along the river's banks with rods, it added.

"It's horrible to know that the river has such fish. I will not swim there anymore," resident Liu Junjie was quoted as saying. "I'll pray they catch them soon."

However, their days may be numbered anyway, as piranhas die when the water temperature drops below 15 degrees Celsius (59 degrees Fahrenheit), as it will do in Guangxi over the winter, the China Daily added.

Chinese media has said the piranhas may have been released by people who had bought them as ornamental fish, and that authorities are now stepping up patrols of markets to ensure no more are sold.

TILAPIA, ALL 50 TONS OF IT, DIE IN S. COTABATO

BY ANGELA LOPEZ DE LEON

A team from Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) yesterday flew to Lake Sebu in South Cotabato to find out what caused the death of nearly 50 tons of "tilapia" worth more than P3 million.

BFAR Director Asis Perez said the team would examine 48 fish cages.

About 46.5 tons of tilapia were seen floating in the lake last Friday and 2.5 tons on Monday.

DOZENS OF WILD PEACOCKS DIE IN PAKISTAN DESERT

July 31, 2012

Dozens of wild peacocks have died suddenly in Pakistan, prompting experts to fear an outbreak of the highly contagious Newcastle disease.

Officials on Monday confirmed the deaths of at least 60 peacocks in Thar desert, part of southern Sindh province, over the last week. Local media reports say more than 100 of the exotic birds have died.

The wildlife ministry said tests were being done to diagnose the cause of death, but said the wild peacocks had been weakened by starvation, deforestation and a lack of safe drinking water blamed on delays to the annual monsoon rains.

“Wild peacocks have become susceptible to bacterial and fungal attack, which further suppressed the immunity of the birds that paved the room for viral attack,” it said.

Experts are alarmed by the number of deaths, suspecting they may have been afflicted with Newcastle disease, known locally as ranikhet.

“We are vaccinating wild peacocks protectively for suspected viral disease, as in 2003 when a few peacocks died from the same symptoms that later proved to be ranikhet,” said Lajpat Sharma, an official in the provincial wildlife ministry.

MYSTERIOUS VIRUS THREATENING KINNERET'S ST. PETER'S FISH

Unknown virus is killing Tilapia population in Sea of Galilee; experts say future impact on lake's eco-system unknown

An unknown virus is threatening the population of St. Peter's fish (Tilapia) in Lake Kinneret (Sea of Galilee).

The virus, which has yet to be identified, is causing the fish to go blind, therefore inhibiting their ability to search for food and causing them to starve to death.

According to an expert report, the mysterious disease has been plaguing the Kinneret's Tilapia for a decade, but some unknown factor has recently caused it to become an epidemic.

THOUSANDS OF FISH DIE AS U.S. STREAMS HEAT UP

Posted on August 6, 2012by The Extinction Protocol

August 6, 2012 – IOWA - Thousands of fish are dying in the central U.S. as the hot, dry summer dries up rivers and causes water temperatures to climb in some spots to nearly 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 Celsius). About 40,000 shovelnose sturgeon were killed in Iowa last week as water temperatures reached 97 degrees Fahrenheit (36.1 Celsius). Nebraska fishery officials said they’ve seen thousands of dead sturgeon, catfish, carp, and other species in the Lower Platte River, including the endangered pallid sturgeon. And biologists in Illinois said the hot weather has killed tens of thousands of large- and smallmouth bass and channel catfish and is threatening the population of the greater redhorse fish, a state-endangered species. So many fish died in one Illinois lake that the carcasses clogged an intake screen near a power plant, lowering water levels to the point that the station had to shut down one of its generators. “It’s something I’ve never seen in my career, and I’ve been here for more than 17 years,” said Mark Flammang, a fisheries biologist with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. “I think what we’re mainly dealing with here are the extremely low flows and this unparalleled heat.” The fish are victims of one of the driest and warmest summers in history.

MEXICO CULLS 3.8 MILLION CHICKENS AS H7N3 VIRUS SPREADS - PREPARES 80 MILLION VACCINE DOSES FOR CHICKENS

Vaccine will spread the virus. Vaccine is POISON.

Posted on July 19, 2012by The Extinction Protocol

July 19, 2012 – MEXICO – SENASICA’s report, with information updated on 16 July, indicates that the 82 poultry farms which do not have the presence of exotic viruses have been issued an official certificate to allow them to move their products to market, since they do not represent a risk to poultry or consumers. The farms that have confirmed the H7N3 avian influenza virus remain under quarantine and isolation, in order to control movement and prevent live birds, waste and litter from moving to virus-free regions. SENASICA will keep the Emergency Plan in place on commercial farms and backyard poultry in the Los Altos region of Jalisco state, mainly in the towns of Acatic and Tepatitlan, with a flock of 16.5 million birds, primarily egg layers, of which 9.3 million are found within the surveillance area. It has also expanded the scope of review into areas adjacent to the initial quarantine area in order to protect the birds in the buffer zone. As a method of control and eradication of the virus, 3.8 million birds have been depopulated under stringent animal health protocols established by international organizations. This measure allows the containment of the virus in the area, said SENASICA. They currently operate eight internal checkpoints and have increased to 43 the number of experts in the region carrying out the tasks of diagnosis, prevention, control and eradication of the virus. SENASICA reiterates that the H7N3 influenza virus poses no risk to humans, whether they are in contact with birds or poultry products, such as meat and eggs, and that the control measures are intended to protect the commercial poultry production in the area. SENASICA conducted a working meeting with laboratories in the veterinary pharmaceutical industry involved in the production of H7N3 avian influenza vaccine to contain the H7N3 outbreak. It was confirmed that three laboratories – Avimex, IASA and Ceva – will manufacture in Mexico some 80 million doses of the vaccine. Those will be available later this month to protect a population, initially, of 40 million birds. The production capacity of those companies may reach 350 million doses per month. –Poultry Site

ARE CATS WIPING OUT THE U.S. BIRD POPULATION?

Are they going to kill all cats under the reason to protect bird population?

8:30 PM, Aug 7, 2012
CNN) - There could be a silent killer lurking in your home: your cat.

Researchers at the University of Georgia say that 44 percent of roaming cats hunt wildlife and on average make two kills a week.

While that might not seem like a lot, it really adds up considering people in the U.S. own an estimated 86 million cats, according to the American Pet Products Association.

The American Bird Conservancy told USA Today those predator cats are wiping out the bird population.

The Conservancy's president says one in three American bird species is in decline and he blames felines.

The study's researchers worked with the National Geographic CritterCam team, putting video cameras on the collars of cats and then let them roam.

August 8, 2012 – CLIMATE – South Korea’s extended heat-wave has taken its toll on both humans and animals, with more than 830,000 chickens or other poultry reported dead as of Wednesday. The agriculture ministry said 786,512 chickens, 40,780 ducks, 3,000 quail, 336 pigs and five cows have died since July 20, when the peak temperature began hovering above 33 Celsius (91.4 Fahrenheit) in most areas. The stifling heat also killed seven people in June and July, the health ministry said, mostly elderly people working in fields or greenhouses.

GALVESTON, TX IN MASSIVE FISH KILL

Posted on August 14, 2012by The Extinction Protocol
August 14, 2012 – GALVESTON, TX – Hundreds of thousands of dead fish have washed up on the beach in Galveston, where crews went to work Monday to remove the dead fish. Peter Davis of the Galveston Island Beach Patrol said Sunday the small shad fish likely were killed by low oxygen levels in the Gulf of Mexico. Davis estimated hundreds of thousands of fish have died. Galveston County health officials said the water is fine for beachgoers. Biologist Steven Mitchell with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department said calm conditions and summer heat may have contributed to the fish kill. He said there’s a possibility of a dead zone in the water off Galveston. Though testing is expected this week, some officials are already blaming the fish kill on red tide. –KWTX

DOZENS OF DEAD BIRDS FALL FROM THE SKY IN NJ LEAVING RESIDENTS BAFFLED

August 14, 2012

Dozens of red-winged blackbirds fell from the sky Tuesday in Millville, N.J.

Residents in a Cumberland County community were left wondering Tuesday morning what caused dozens of birds to drop dead from the sky. Residents along Peach Drive in Millville found around 75 to 80 birds — many red-winged blackbirds — on the ground dead having fallen from trees and the sky. One neighbor even said he saw the birds falling out of the air. The dead birds caused a bloody mess on roadways in the residential neighborhood.

FISH KILL IN HIGHLAND PARK, TEXAS

Monday, August 20, 2012 21:15

But neighbors and city officials point to a different problem: the heavy weekend rains.E-zine publisher Jeff Levine went on a walk Sunday along Lakeside Drive, he snapped a photo of hundreds of small fish and one large one beached on the sidewalk.

“This is from my walk today in Dallas,” read the caption.

The fish were beached on a sidewalk near Exall Lake, part of Turtle Creek that runs through Highland Park.

Highland Park was sprayed with Duet on Thursday, the first night planes took to the sky to mist mosquito killer in an effort to combat West Nile Virus. Several cases of West Nile Virus — and at least one death — happened in the Park Cities.

  PIG FEVER SWEEPS ACROSS RUSSIA

Deadly virus may be poised to spread to neighbouring states.

Mass culls and vigilant hygiene are the main forms of defence against the African swine fever virus. K. Chalabov/RIA Novosti Russian authorities have incinerated tens of thousands of pigs and closed roads in the past few weeks, in an attempt to contain an emerging outbreak of African swine fever, a viral disease so lethal to the animals that it has been likened to Ebola. The spread of the disease comes with a heavy economic toll — last year, the Russian Federation lost 300,000 of the country’s 19 million pigs to swine fever, at an estimated cost of about 7.6 billion roubles (US$240 million). African swine fever was also detected for the first time in Ukraine in late July, and European and Asian countries are on the alert to deal with outbreaks that could cost their pork industries billions of dollars. With no vaccine or cure for the disease, mass culls and vigilant hygiene offer the main defence.

A strong sewage smell preceded scenes of dead fish littering the shores of Lake Erie this weekend and has residents wondering what caused the massive die-off, the president of the Rondeau Cottagers Association said Tuesday.

“This is a very substantial fish kill and there’s something really wrong to have a fish die off like this,” said Dr. David Colby, a cottager who is also the Chatham-Kent medical officer of health.

Colby said it is more of an environmental disaster than a threat to human health since it would be foolish to eat dead fish from the shore. He’s waiting to hear results from the Ministry of Environment, which collected fish and water samples Saturday that could take a few days to analyze.

NEW TOXIC STRAIN OF H5N1 BIRD FLU SPREADING FAST IN VIETNAM

Posted on September 9, 2012by The Extinction Protocol

September 9, 2012 – VIETNAM – A new highly-toxic strain of the potentially deadly bird flu virus has appeared in Vietnam and is spreading fast, according to state media reports. The strain appeared to be a mutation of the H5N1 virus which swept through the country’s poultry flocks last year, forcing mass culls of birds in affected areas, according to agriculture officials. The new virus “is quickly spreading and this is the big concern of the government”, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Diep Kinh Tan said, according to a Thursday report in the VietnamNet online newspaper.

DEAD BEER EVERYWHERE

Central Illinois: Dozens of dead deer found along rivers and at watering holes

In a three-mile stretch of the Kaskaskia River -- a tributary of the Mississippi River about 80 miles southeast of Springfield, Illinois -- a group of people found 26 dead deer, according to local resident Karen Forcum, who reported these findings to the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network.

Many of the deer were tested by animal control officers and found to have a hemorrhagic fever -- likely brought on by disease-carrying gnats that thrive in drought conditions, Forcum said. They ended up dying at water sources, she added, in their attempts to cool their fevers, albeit to no avail. Similar deer deaths have been reported in Nebraska near the Lower Platte River, around a lake in Delaware, and elsewhere.

Other animals have also been affected by drought in the rural area known for its forests and farmland, with many fish kills, turtles and other animals reported dead. One of the few species to thrive are turkey vultures, feasting on the carcasses that suddenly abound.

"I think it's all in the hands of nature," said Forcum.

SCIENTISTS INVESTIGATE REPORTS OF A MASSIVE CORAL DEATHS OFF KAUAI

Rapid response team to try and determineextent of damage, cause

Kauai's diseased coral reef, infected turtles

HONOLULU —

A mysterious coral die-off on Kauai’s north shore is prompting a team of scientists to take a closer look at what may be killing large areas of coral reef.

Marine biologist Terry Lilley has been monitoring and documenting Kauai's marine environment for the last decade or more.

This summer he was struck at how fast he was seeing something kill off what he estimates are millions of coral colonies.
"Something is damaging the reefs in the whole part of the island so it has to be something relatively big," said Lilley.

BIRDS VS. CAR: UP TO 100 STARLINGS KILLED IN AUSTRIA AFTER FLYING INTO CAR ON HIGHWAY

VIDEO : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0IrUVpyMKss&feature=share
By Associated Press, Published: October 1AP

VIENNA — A mass collision between a flock of starlings and a car on a stretch of Austrian expressway has left up to 100 of the birds dead and the driver shaken but unhurt.

The Austria Press Agency says the birds suddenly flew from power lines above the multi-lane highway in western Austria downward and directly into the path of the car.

The report did not say how fast the car was traveling Monday, but the speed limit on Austria’s autobahns is usually 130 kph — close to 80 mph.

The car sustained numerous dents. Cleanup crews quickly removed the dead birds.

MCDONOUGH, Ga. -

Henry County Animal Control officials say they now have all the kittens from a cat which tested positive for rabies.

The f
our kittens were being given away in the parking lot of the McDonough Walmart on September 9. One of the kittens became ill and scratched someone during an examination at a vet clinic.

Veterinarians had to euthanize it and it later tested positive for rabies.

Saturday, officials say that three of the kittens and their mother have tested positive for the rabies virus. The fourth kitten will be tested this week.

They remind all pet owners to make sure their animals are current with their vaccinations to prevent them from contracting the virus. = NO VACCINATION NEEDED. VACCINATION IS POISON!!!

TACTICS AND BUSINESS OF SHOOTING FERAL PIGS

By Will Grant

Feral hogs occupy a unique place among wildlife in this country. Early Spanish explorers brought the first hogs to North America as a food source more than 300 years ago. In the 1930s, European wild hogs, or Russian Boars, were imported by sportsmen and landowners for sport hunting.

The hogs are feral; they are not native to North America. The populations we see today, which are largely in the Southeast US, are the descendants of escaped animals. And as a breeding population, they’ve been wildly successful.

Biologists estimate there are about 5 million feral hogs in North America spread across 39 states and four Canadian provinces. For hundreds of years, hogs were endemic to many ecosystems—they survived in small numbers, and their effects were minimal.

But in the last 30 years or so, wild hogs have enjoyed an explosive growth in numbers. They have no natural predators, can eat nearly anything, and are adept survivors. Females are ready to breed at six months old, can give birth to up to a 14 babies at once, and have an average of 2.5 litters per year. They’re also one of the few animals that can come into heat while still pregnant.

With the explosion in population, state wildlife commissions across the country have taken steps to mitigate population growth and the animals’ damage to native ecosystems and local agriculture. A conservative estimate of the pigs’ damage to the environment and agriculture in the US is $1.5 billion annually.

Because they’re non-native and destructive, hunting regulations are far more liberal for feral pigs than most other animals. In most places, you can shoot them at night, there’s no bag limit on how many you can shoot, and you can bait them.

And more often than not, a landowner with pigs wants you to shoot as many as you can by whatever means necessary. To those interested in shooting, that means a lot of hunting.

MOONLESS NIGHTS IN GEORGIA

Rod Pinkston founded Jager Pro, based in Columbus, Georgia, in 2006 as a high-volume solution for landowners wanting to reduce local hog populations. Over the years, him, his guides and paying customers have killed thousands of hogs. In 2012, Pinkston estimates his company will be responsible for killing as many as 2,000 hogs.

“This is probably our best year yet,” he says. “The problem is were working ourselves right out of a job… We’re the Special Forces of hog hunting.”

Pinkston spent 24 years in the Army and retired from the US Army Marksmanship Unit’s Olympic Shooting Team at Fort Benning. At the 2008 Beijing Olympics, his shooters earned two gold medals. It was the first time US shooters earned four shotgun medals in the history of Olympic shooting.

A breadth of experience with wildlife, shooting and combat contributes to his success with Jager Pro. He first got the idea for the business while manning an observation post during Operation Desert Storm. His original goal for Jager Pro was take retired men from the Marksmanship Unit and apply their skills to hog control.

“We went from a two-legged enemy to a four-legged enemy,” he says. “We take a systematic approach to eliminating hogs… The mantra of Jager Pro is efficiency.”

Pinkson invented the MINE (manually initiated nusicuance elimination) trapping system to bait and corral large numbers of hogs, up to 30 at a time. With cameras and a remotely operated gate, Pinkston and his men have trapped entire sounders, or herds, of wild pigs at once.

But when the trap fails to catch all the pigs, the men take to the field with .308 Remington R-25 semi-automatic rifles fitted with $13,500 military-grade thermal scopes. And Jager Pro does guide hunters to shoot pigs.

But, Pinkston cautions, this isn’t the kind of hunting you did with Granddad in a tree stand with a flask of whiskey.

“I want people to understand this isn’t a picnic,” he says. “We’re going out there to kill everything that oinks. This isn’t something to take lightly.”

They only hunt on the darkest nights when there’s minimal moonlight. They spot the hogs from up to a mile away using thermal optics. They determine wind direction, where the cover is, and what direction the pigs will flee once shot at. And then they stalk.

Pinkston likes to set up shooters as close as 40 yards from feeding pigs but is sometimes forced to takes shots from as far away as 80 yards. When the shooters are set, Pinkston counts 3 – 2 – 1, and then, more often than not, pigs fall.

But pigs are not easy to kill. And, like all targets, when they’re on the run, they’re even harder to kill. Most paying hunters have a hard time placing a shot on a running target, but men retired from the Marksmanship Unit can usually clean up a few stragglers.

Part of what makes feral pigs hard to hunt is their intelligence.

“I believe wild pigs are smarter than 90% of the people hunting them,” he says.

A PROBLEM AS BIG AS TEXAS

Nowhere is the hog problem more pressing than in Texas. More than half the wild hogs in the US live in Texas, about 4 million at last count. In 2010 Texas passed a law that allowed aerial gunning of wild hogs. For men like Matt Ashcraft, that’s meant a surge in business.

Ashcraft is based in Waco, Texas, and flies helicopters for Freedom Aviation and Heli Hunter.

“I’m getting my door kicked in by people from all over the world wanting to shoot hogs,” he says. “ Myself and just a few other pilots were flying aerial wildlife management [for Texas Parks and Wildlife Department] for years before the sport hunting law passed. Now it’s wildly popular.”

Ashcraft and his team don’t fly when the trees have leaves or when it’s hot; the season is basically from October through April. The foliage blocks line of sight to the targets, and when it’s cold the animals move more and need to eat more, which makes hunting them easier.

Ashcraft can often see fresh sign of pigs from the air—tracks through a field, rooted crop rows, ripped apart hay bales.

“Where we find fresh sign, we look for cover,” he says. “You find the food, and you know they need cover and water.”

Ashcraft will hover above the thickest brush in the area to scare hogs out of hiding. Most of the helicopters he flies are fitted with an air horn, which will move hogs. He also uses a handheld air horn and will create a racket until the hogs leave the cover.

They usually leave the cover in a tight group, maybe walking in a line. Using the helicopter he will try to herd the hogs as far from any cover as possible. For when the shooting starts, there’s no telling which direction the pigs will run. But run they will.

As the helicopter coasts alongside the running targets, a few well-placed shots from an AR usually sends the pigs into cartwheels. But when Ashcraft flies for Heli Hunter, the shooters are using Saiga 12 gauge shotguns loaded with 00 buckshot.

“The average shooter has a better chance of getting lead in the animal with a shotgun,” he says. “But I prefer a rifle.”

Shooting animals from a helicopter is a different experience than most people will ever have. But thanks to the 2010 law, more people can now taste the adrenaline of looking through the sights of gun at pig running below them.

“I’m not going to lie,” he says, “it’s fun, and it’s exciting, and people love it.”

Earlier this year, Ashcraft met a group of Chinese businessmen who thought hunting pigs from the air sounded fun. He set them up with Heli Hunter, and the men were soon outfitted with cowboy hats and cowboy boots and a slew of Texas souvenirs. They were also outfitted with the 12 gauge Saigas.

“They ended up having a negligent discharge,” he says. “They didn’t speak a word of English and had to use a translator.”

THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM

In the last 30 years, wild hogs have increased in both distribution and number. Throwing lead at them and trapping are two methods that clearly lay down a lot of hogs. But the population continues to grow faster than efforts to control it.

To understand this growth, Ashcraft thinks you need to look at the situation from a different angle. Yes, the animals breed often and produce a lot of young. Yes, they eat nearly anything and are smart. But Ashcraft thinks that diet may be a cause of the problem.

In Texas, it’s common practice to set out automatic feeders or plant rows of crops to attract deer. Corn, which is very high in protein, is most often fed to the deer.

“If I fly for an hour and don’t see a corn feeder, something’s wrong,” he says. “It’s like a high-protein all-you-can-eat buffet out there.”

In the late 1970s, Texas passed a law that made it legal to feed wildlife. That was about the same time that the hog population began to grow out of control. In the 1980s, the feral hog population was headed for record numbers.

Most old timers in Texas say they never had a hog problem before the ’80s. Now, the hogs are regularly pushing deer off the corn feeders. And that corn is richer than anything the hogs could find otherwise.

“Some people may not like to hear that,” Ashcraft says, “but it’s the truth. How else can you explain to me why Texas now has this huge problem?”

Most experts, hunters, and guides agree that feral hogs will never be completely eradicated from North America. And since they are now sport animals where people like Ashcraft and Pinkston make a profit off them, the issue becomes doubly as challenging.

“It’s a double-edged sword,” Ashcraft says. “But I would say that business probably won’t change in the foreseeable future.”

For the landowners, that means that local treatments (killing resident hogs) will be the name of the game. For sport hunters, that means good hunting.

“Welcome to Texas,” Ashcraft says. “You wanna to shoot pigs from a helicopter? Come on!”

Recipe- You would be unwise not to eat the wild pig you kill. The meat is leaner, but it has a flavor all its own. And it’s showing up more often in restaurants across the country. Our pick for a hearty, wild meal is from the Broken Arrow Ranch in Ingram, Texas. Check out their recipe for Braised Leg of Wild Boar with Black Beans and Chilies.

Knife- Wild pigs have notoriously tough hide. You’ll need a good knife to dress one out and process the meat. We suggest the DPx Gear HEFT 6 Woodsman. The meaty, Sleipner blade holds a razor edge, is available with serrations at the base of the blade, and will prove nearly as handy as your rifle for putting meat on the table.

HUNDREDS OF BIRD DEATHS SOUND ALARM ON PROBLEMS IN THE GREAT LAKES

12:36 PM, October 18, 2012 |

Eleanor Comings, a volunteer for the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, has found dozens of dead loons while walking the beach. In the last few days, nearly 300 dead or dying loons and other fish-eating birds have been counted. / DAN RAY/SLEEPING BEAR DUNES NATIONAL LAKESHORE AVI

If you find a dead bird along Lake Michigan

Anyone who finds dead birds along Lake Michigan can report what they’ve seen online at www.michigan.gov/emergingdiseases, scroll down to Seasonal Information and go to Type E Botulism in Michigan Waterfowl, and it will take you to a listing of what to do with carcasses and who to report mortalities to.

The list of individuals to whom observations can be reported allows for an accurate count of the species and numbers involved and if specimens are fresh enough they may be collected and submitted for examination and testing.

Volunteers and biologists walking the beaches of northwestern Michigan's Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore the past few days have counted nearly 300 dead or dying loons and other fish-eating birds -- all victims of botulism that has scientists concerned about the changing ecology of the Great Lakes.

"This last couple days has been off the charts," said Dan Ray, a biologist in charge of a project monitoring the botulism among fish-eating birds at the park. "I'm sitting here looking at our graph and for the loons, this appears to be one of the worst seasons."

Strong southwest and northwest winds in recent weeks explain why the dead loons are coming ashore, possibly from many miles into Lake Michigan.

DETROIT : DEAD, DYING LOONS FOUND AT SLEEPING BEAR DUNES

Posted: 10.18.2012 at 12:15 PM

EMPIRE, MICH. (AP) -- Volunteers and biologists say they've found about 300 dead or dying loons over the past few days at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.

The Detroit Free Press reports the birds in the northern Lower Peninsula are believed to have been killed by botulism. Dan Ray, a biologist in charge of a project monitoring botulism among fish-eating birds at the park, says it appears to be among the worst seasons for the loons.

[*] FISH KILL INVESTIGATION AT ILLAWONG BEACH[*] 31st Oct 2012 7:00 AM
Small whiting found dead

Pat McGee was sorry to find a very long line of small dead fish along Illawong Beach when he went for a walk yesterday. Lee Constable

MACKAY'S Pat McGee was heading out for a regular walk at Illawong Beach yesterday morning, when he came across a disturbing sight.

"There were millions of these little fish, all dead, in a great strand, all along the beach," Mr McGee said.

"The strand of dead fish went for miles, as far as the eye could see," he said.
"I think they are whiting, but am not sure.

"But I would like to know what might have caused this."

However, as the tide was coming in, the fish kill had been washed away before officers from the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection were able to investigate. Read more : http://www.cqnews.com.au/news/fish-kill-investigation-illawong-beach/1603434/

XIAMEN, Fujian - Fish farms along the Minjiang River in the Shuikou Township section of East China's Fujian province have been hit by a wave of fish kills in recent days, but the cause has yet to be determined, local authorities said on Sunday.

Some 9,000 tanks of fish, including about 8,000 in Shuikou town and some 1,000 in Huangtian town, were reported dead as of Saturday, according to a release from the government of Gutian county, which administers the two townships.

One tank usually holds 3,500 to 5,000 fish.

MAURITIUS : DES CENTAINES DE SINGES TUÉS ET EMPILÉS DANS DES POUBELLES, CAR NE CORRESPONDANT PAS AUX NORMES DES LABOS EUROPÉENS !

Mercredi 31 octobre 2012331/10/Oct/201223:16

MYSTERY OVER WATERBIRD DEATHS AT LAKE NEANGAR

 By ELOISE JOHNSTONE
Nov. 7, 2012, 1 a.m.

A council worker picks up the dead seagull carcasses.

WATERBIRD experts are unsure why so many birds are dying on Lake Neangar.

Council workers were called out to the Eaglehawk lake yesterday to clean up a collection of dead seagulls on an island in the middle of the lake.

Bendigo resident Donna Pollard reported the incident to the City of Greater Bendigo after she discovered dozens of dead birds on a walk around the area.

Ms Pollard said she was concerned the dead wildlife would contaminate the water.

“The smell was terrible and it just looked so awful,” she said.

HUNDREDS OF DEAD FISH FOUND ON BEACHES

13/Dec/2012

By John Dobson, Weekend Courier

Under investigation: some of the dead fish found on a Safety Bay beach this week.

IT could be some time before Fisheries authorities know what killed hundreds of fish and crabs in Safety Bay this week but early indications point to low oxygen levels.

Hundreds of fish including herring and flounder, blue manner crabs and eels were found dead over several days on the beach near Tern Island and the Bent Street boat ramp.
Many concerned readers contacted the Courier over the weekend after spotting the dead marine life.
Department of Fisheries spokesman on fish health Paul Hillier said the department had visited the site several times this week, but had been unable to find suitable samples of fish to test – with most too decayed.
Mr Hillier said it was too early to confirm what had caused the deaths with water
samples also being tested.

BIRD FLU WIPES OUT HUNDREDS OF DUCKS IN BALI

The Jakarta Post | Archipelago | Fri, January 04 2013, 8:33 AM

Hundreds of ducks in Takmung village, Klungkung regency, Bali, have died suddenly, with avian flu suspected as the cause.
I Wayan Sudia, a duck breeder in Takmung village, said he had lost hundreds of his ducks.

“Laboratory reports show my ducks were infected by bird flu,” I Wayan Sudia told reporters on Thursday as reported by Antara news agency. “The symptoms included cloudy eyes and seizures,” he added.

Two months ago, Sudia bought 500 ducks in Tabanan regency, about 200 of which have died in the past few days.
Disinfectants have been distributed to breeders in the village for free to prevent the flu from spreading.

GOLDEN ALGA CAUSE OF FISH KILL ON ALTUS-LUGERT LAKE

Posted by Ed Godfreyn January 4, 2013M at 4:01 pm

Thousands of fish, mostly shad, have died in recent weeks on Altus-Lugert Lake because of golden alga blooms. Photo provided by John Karr.

Altus-Lugert Lake is the latest body of water in southwest Oklahoma where fish are dying as a result of golden alga blooms.

The fish kill started the week before Christmas and became worse last week with several thousand fish dying in the lake, said Larry Cofer, southwest fisheries chief of the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation.

Most of the dead fish are shad but there also have been some sport fish that have been killed.

Golden alga is an aquatic plant whose blooms produce a toxin that is deadly to fish. It typically blooms in the winter when other aquatic plants are suppressed by the cold weather.“We think that is what gives golden alga a competitive advantage in the winter,” Cofer said.Altus City Lake had a golden alga outbreak in 2004. Last winter, trout stocked in the stream below Altus-Lugert Lake died because of the toxin and state wildlife officials confirmed the presence of golden alga in the lake.

DEAD SNAPPER WASH UP ON COROMANDEL BEACHES

6:39 PM Friday Jan 4, 2013

Have you been got any photos of the dead fish? Send your pictures here.

Dead fish, most of them snapper, have washed up on Coromandel Peninsula beaches, and fisheries authorities want to know how they got there.

The rotting carcasses are littering beaches from the top of the Coromandel Peninsula for about a 10km stretch, Newstalk ZB reported.

Fisheries authorities want to hear from anyone who might have a clue as to what happened.

In similar cases in the past, prosecutions have resulted against commercial trawlers dumping their catch at sea.
Compliance manager Brendon Mikkelsen says the fish started washing up on New Year's Day.

"There is a significant volume of snapper and we're currently investigating it. The positive is that we have some witnesses coming forward so we're speaking to those witnesses.''

THOUSANDS OF DEAD STARFISH WASH UP ON LINCOLNSHIRE BEACH FOLLOWING STORMY WEATHER

January 24, 2013

Thousands of dead starfish have washed up on a beach in Lincolnshire after a period of stormy weather. Shocked photographer Simon Peck estimates that 4,000 starfish – along with whelks’ eggs and pieces of shell – had surfaced on Cleethorpes beach. Experts think that the animals were dislodged by rough waters in the recent wintry weather, with a similar incident happening at the same time last year.

WHAT CAUSED THE STRANDING?

Mass starfish strandings, known as ‘wrecks’, are not uncommon in Britain and typically occur once or twice a year as a result of storms.

Most starfish travel alone or in small groups, but congregate in their millions if a particular area of the seabed is rich in food or to reproduce.

Despite its name, the starfish is not a fish but an echinoderm and holds on to the ocean floor using their suction-cupped tube feet underneath their limbs.

KILLER KITTIES: STUDY SAYS CATS RESPONSIBLE FOR BILLIONS OF BIRD DEATHS EACH YEAR

Just an other propaganda and disinfo for the coming war/destruction against cats. Killing all form of animals and destroying everything who can give comfort and love and replace them all with chimeras and robots who are completely control by the machine to achieve their evil agenda.

They’re cute, they’re cuddly, they’re… bloodthirsty killers.

Of course, dog lovers could have already told you that lurking beneath that adorable purr mechanism was the engine of a fine-tuned bird-slaughtering machine.

Only now it appears to have been confirmed by science. According to a recent article published in the Nature Communications journal, researchers at the Migratory Bird Center of the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute in Washington D.C. estimate that felines are responsible for up to 3.7 billion bird deaths per year in the U.S. alone.

That number still pales in comparison to the 20.7 billion small mammals – like rats, voles and chipmunks – who annually exit this mortal coil at the paw of some predatory kitty cat.
[ Related: Fletcher the cat discovers snowflakes for the first time ]

Scientists pored over previous studies that explored the role felines play in the mortality rate of birds and mammals across North America, and concluded that their participation in small creature genocide was far more involved than previously believed.

"The magnitude of wildlife mortality caused by cats that we report here far exceeds all prior estimates," the paper reads.

But you don’t have to start getting paranoid about that glint in Fluffy’s eye. Most of the damage, say researchers, comes from stray cats. There are anywhere between 30 million and 80 million feral cats roaming around the U.S. and the study suggests that each cat is capable of killing up to 200 mammals per year on its own.

People who abandon their pets play a large role in the problem, particularly the ones who think that dumping their cats on the street when they no longer wish to take care of them constitutes acceptable human behaviour. There is a word for these people but it is mostly unpublishable on this website.

When cats are forced to fend for themselves, they simply do what cats do to survive.

It’s also the reason feral cat outreach programs spay and neuter the strays that come into their orbit.
[ Related: Milo the magnetic ‘cat burglar’ found responsible for stealing 20 sets of keys ]

Like many domestic animals, cats are wonderful companions but they are also naturally predatory creatures and shouldn’t be vilified for it. Responsible cat parents can mitigate the bird-and-rodent-death problem by limiting the amount of time Fluffy gets to reenact scenes from The Ghost and the Darkness, backyard style.

Team Cat forever.

DEAD FISH WASH ASHORE AT MASONBORO ISLAND BY HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS

Hundreds of thousands of dead fish washed ashore this week at Masonboro Island, according to the state Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

The dead fish, identified as Atlantic Menhaden, are strewn along the island's beaches and in the water, stretching over a one-mile area from the Mason Inlet jetty to Loosins Creek, officials reported.

The menhaden - a small, silvery filter-feeder - appear to have clustered by the thousands in a narrow area at Loosins Creek, causing dissolved oxygen levels in the water to plummet to nearly zero in less than one hour, killing the fish.

According to reports, this can happen when menhaden tighten their school, swimming closer to together in what's thought to be an effort to avoid predators.

FISH WORTH MILLIONS IN EXPORTS DIE IN ICELANDIC LAKE AFTER BUILDING WORK ‘STARVES THEM OF OXYGEN’

VIDEO : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JozsSZWGQTo&feature=player_embedded

February 6, 2013

Stretching as far as the eye can see, dead herring blanket the ground in these chilling pictures taken today. It is not yet known what is causing the mass fish deaths in Iceland, but today’s grim find is the second such occurrence in two months. The herring, weighing an estimated 25,000 to 30,000 tonnes and worth £18.9million, were found floating dead in in Kolgrafafjorour, a small fjord on the northern part of Snæfellsnes peninsula, west Iceland, according to the country’s Morgunbladid newspaper. Biologist Róbert Arnar Stefánsson estimates that 7,000 tonnes of herring is laying on the shore and there are many more at the bottom of the fjord. Both this mass death and the one in December, where a similar amount of fish died, are thought to be due to a lack of oxygen in the fjord caused by a landfill and bridge constructed across the fjord in 2004.
