AUSSIE AIRLINE QANTAS BANS PORK IN SUBMISSION TO ISLAMIC SHARIA LAW

Posted on April 5, 2013 by creeping

Submission down under. via Pigs can’t fly – Qantas bans pork on in-flight menu to respect Islam | thetelegraph.com.au.
QANTAS has removed pork from its in-flight menu on flights to and from Europe as a result of its partnership with Middle Eastern airline Emirates.

No food containing pork or pork products will be served on those flights – which now has a stopover in Dubai – because it is strictly forbidden in Islam and is considered “unholy”.

All meals offered on the route in first, business and economy classes will also be prepared without alcohol in keeping with the Islamic religion. A note on the Qantas menus on flights in and out of Dubai states that the meals do not contain pork products or alcohol. The airline has also introduced a mezze plate offering traditional Middle Eastern fare in its upper classes and has Arabic translations after in-flight announcements.

A Qantas spokesman said the decision to remove pork, ham and other related food items had had minimal impact on its menu and it was still offering the same meal choices.

Qantas also offers meals without pork and alcohol on flights to the Indonesian capital Jakarta, which also has a large Muslim population.
Several other airlines which fly from Australia to the United Arab Emirates and Malaysia do not serve pork either.

Virgin Australia does not serve pork on flights to and from Abu Dhabi and all meals that are prepared are halal accredited, with meat prepared in a way prescribed by Islamic law.

Qantas passengers heading to any European city now fly via Dubai instead of Singapore, as they did under the airline’s previous longstanding partnership with British Airways. The Qantas pork ban comes as other airlines – in the wake of the Qantas-Emirates merger – jostle for market share by aggressively discounting fares from Australia to Europe.

H.R. 193 WOULD FORCE FARMERS TO PAY A FEE ON SAVED SEEDS AND REGISTER THEM

Farmers around the country Friday expressed frustration after learning about House Resolution 193. H.R. 193 would require farmers to register their seeds with the Secretary of Agriculture after a harvest. The farmers would then have to pay a fee for retaining those seeds. However, H.R. 193 is not that simple.

Farmers who purchase and grow patented seeds are the ones who would have to register their seeds after a harvest. A patented seed is a seed that is the product of human intervention and has been claimed as intellectual property.

Although it may seem like a recent trend, Louis Pasteur made the first patent on a living organism in 1873. Pasteur patented yeast. Most patents in question, however, are patents by the company Monsanto on their genetically engineered seeds.

H.R. 193 would change things for farmers who purchase patented seeds and then grow those seeds. After the harvest, many farmers save the seeds that they can, seeds produced from the product they already paid for. H.R. 193 would force those farmers who save their seeds to register those seeds with the Secretary of Agriculture. After they register those seeds, the farmers would then have to pay fees set aside by the Secretary of Agriculture for keeping the seeds, “and for other purposes”.

Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D-OH9) is a member of the Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies and sponsored H.R. 193, which has been referred to Committee. Opponents of H.R. 193 are being urged to send a tweet to Kaptur and inform her of their opinions.

GAZA FARMERS BURN TONNES OF BASIL, MINT AFTER ISRAEL BORDER SHUT

By Nidal al-Mughrabi | Reuters –

A Palestinian farmer burns mints at a farm in Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip …

By Nidal al-Mughrabi

GAZA (Reuters) - Palestinian farmers in Gaza began destroying three tonnes of herbs on Saturday, saying a prolonged closure of the crossing into Israel meant the plants were no longer fit for export to Europe.

Last October, Israel lifted a five-year ban on the lucrative export of Gazan herbs and spices, imposed after the Islamist Hamas group seized control of the coastal enclave, and farmers had hoped to cash in with their latest crop of mint and basil.

But Israel shut its sole commercial crossing into the isolated Palestinian territory last Monday in response to a rocket salvo fired out of Gaza, allowing only a brief reopening on Friday to enable the import of certain goods.

Farmers said the closure came just as they were preparing to harvest two tonnes of mint and a tonne of basil, adding that the herbs were now past their prime for the European market.

"It was too late and we regret that we have had to throw away the farmers' harvest," Jamal Abu Naja, director of Gaza's communal agriculture association, told Reuters. "Repeated closures are threatening this hopeful project."

The Palestinian economy is bound closely to Israel's through infrastructure and has few foreign trading partners. Israel's security cordon around Gaza and its security restrictions in the occupied West Bank limit Palestinians' ability to compete in export markets and contribute to an unemployment rate of almost 25 percent, the World Bank said last month.

Israel and Hamas, which rejects the Jewish state's right to exist, fought an eight-day war last November that ended with an Egyptian-brokered ceasefire.

After three months of quiet, militants fired a rocket into Israel at the end of February, with very occasional salvos following in subsequent weeks. Israel has responded each time by closing the Kerem Shalom commercial crossing.

Abu Naja urged farmers to take advantage of the decision to lift the curb last year, pointing to high demand in Europe for spices and herbs, with traders paying $26 a kilo for the Palestinian produce against $0.27 on the home market.
Some 15 tonnes of spices have been exported since January, but the latest crop was mowed down on Saturday and will be burnt after it has dried in the sun, farmers said.

"It took a month to grow this mint and if you don't export it at the right time, you have to burn it because there is very little local consumption," Abu Naja said.

To date, some 30 dunam (7.4 acres) have been turned over to herbs, including 20 inside the former Israeli settlement of Gush Katif, from which Israel pulled settlers and soldiers in 2005.

Some 40 Palestinian men and women who used to work in the settlements were the backbone of the current planting teams.

"We chose 40 people, including seven women, who had good experience in order to assure success. Settlers had mainly depended on planting spices when they were here," Abu Naja said.

Unlike other produce that Israel allows to be exported to Europe, such as strawberries, cherry tomatoes and flowers, spices can be planted and exported the year round.

FDA SAYS WALNUTS ARE ILLEGAL DRUGS

Seen any walnuts in your medicine cabinet lately? According to the Food and Drug Administration, that is precisely where you should find them. Because Diamond Foods made truthful claims about the health benefits of consuming walnuts that the FDA didn’t approve, it sent the company a letter declaring, “Your walnut products are drugs” — and “new drugs” at that — and, therefore, “they may not legally be marketed … in the United States without an approved new drug application.” The agency even threatened Diamond with “seizure” if it failed to comply.

Diamond’s transgression was to make “financial investments to educate the public and supply them with walnuts,” as William Faloon of Life Extension magazine put it. On its website and packaging, the company stated that the omega-3 fatty acids found in walnuts have been shown to have certain health benefits, including reduced risk of heart disease and some types of cancer. These claims, Faloon notes, are well supported by scientific research: “Life Extension has published 57 articles that describe the health benefits of walnuts”; and “The US National Library of Medicine database contains no fewer than 35 peer-reviewed published papers supporting a claim that ingesting walnuts improves vascular health and may reduce heart attack risk.”

This evidence was apparently not good enough for the FDA, which told Diamond that its walnuts were “misbranded” because the “product bears health claims that are not authorized by the FDA.”

The FDA’s letter continues: “We have determined that your walnut products are promoted for conditions that cause them to be drugs because these products are intended for use in the prevention, mitigation, and treatment of disease.”

Furthermore, the products are also “misbranded” because they “are offered for conditions that are not amenable to self-diagnosis and treatment by individuals who are not medical practitioners; therefore, adequate directions for use cannot be written so that a layperson can use these drugs safely for their intended purposes.” Who knew you had to have directions to eat walnuts?

“The FDA’s language,” Faloon writes, “resembles that of an out-of-control police state where tyranny [reigns] over rationality.” He adds:

This kind of bureaucratic tyranny sends a strong signal to the food industry not to innovate in a way that informs the public about foods that protect against disease. While consumers increasingly reach for healthier dietary choices, the federal government wants to deny food companies the ability to convey findings from scientific studies about their products.

Walnuts aren’t the only food whose health benefits the FDA has tried to suppress. Producers of pomegranate juice and green tea, among others, have felt the bureaucrats’ wrath whenever they have suggested that their products are good for people.

Meanwhile, Faloon points out, foods that have little to no redeeming value are advertised endlessly, often with dubious health claims attached. For example, Frito-Lay is permitted to make all kinds of claims about its fat-laden, fried products, including that Lay’s potato chips are “heart healthy.” Faloon concludes that “the FDA obviously does not want the public to discover that they can reduce their risk of age-related disease by consuming healthy foods. They prefer consumers only learn about mass-marketed garbage foods that shorten life span by increasing degenerative disease risk.”

Faloon thinks he knows why this is the case. First, by stifling competition from makers of more healthful alternatives, junk food manufacturers, who he says “heavily lobb[y]” the federal government for favorable treatment, will rake in ever greater profits. Second, by making it less likely that Americans will consume healthful foods, big pharmaceutical companies and medical device manufacturers stand to gain by selling more “expensive cardiac drugs, stents, and coronary bypass procedures” to those made ill by their diets.

But people are starting to fight back against the FDA’s tactics. “The makers of pomegranate juice, for example, have sued the FTC for censoring their First Amendment right to communicate scientific information to the public,” Faloon reports. Congress is also getting into the act with a bill, the Free Speech About Science Act (H.R. 1364), that, Faloon writes, “protects basic free speech rights, ends censorship of science, and enables the natural health products community to share peer-reviewed scientific findings with the public.”

Of course, if the Constitution were being followed as intended, none of this would be necessary. The FDA would not exist; but if it did, as a creation of Congress it would have no power to censor any speech whatsoever. If companies are making false claims about their products, the market will quickly punish them for it, and genuine fraud can be handled through the courts. In the absence of a government agency supposedly guaranteeing the safety of their food and drugs and the truthfulness of producers’ claims, consumers would become more discerning, as indeed they already are becoming despite the FDA’s attempts to prevent the dissemination of scientific research. Besides, as Faloon observed, “If anyone still thinks that federal agencies like the FDA protect the public, this proclamation that healthy foods are illegal drugs exposes the government’s sordid charade.”

What the FDA Allows You to Hear

The number of people logging on to the website of Diamond Foods was miniscule. I suspect that before the FDA took this draconian action, hardly anyone even knew this website existed.

What the public hears loud and clear, however, are endless advertisements for artery-clogging junk foods. Fast food chains relentlessly promote their 99-cent double-cheese burger as being bigger than their rivals. These advertisements induce many consumers to salivate for these toxic calories that are a contributing cause of coronary artery disease. Yet the FDA does not utter a peep in suggesting that their advertising be curtailed.

On the contrary, the FDA has issued waves of warning letters to companies making foods (pomegranate juice, green tea, and walnuts) that protect against atherosclerosis. The FDA is blatantly demanding that these companies stop informing the public about the scientifically validated health benefits these foods provide.

The FDA obviously does not want the public to discover that they can reduce their risk of age-related disease by consuming healthy foods. They prefer consumers only learn about mass-marketed garbage foods that shorten life span by increasing degenerative disease risk.

FEMA PLANS CLEAR-CUTTING 85,000 BERKELEY AND OAKLAND TREES

Posted on 16 May 2013

By Randy Shaw

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is moving to chop down 22,000 trees in Berkeley's historic Strawberry and Claremont Canyons and over 60,000 more in Oakland. This destructive plan is rapidly moving forward with little publicity, and FEMA cleverly scheduled its three public meetings for mid and late May while UC Berkeley students were in finals or gone for the summer.

UC Berkeley has applied for the grant to destroy the bucolic Strawberry and Claremont Canyon areas, claiming that the trees pose a fire hazard. The school has no plans to replant, and instead will cover 20% of the area in wood chips two feet deep. And it will pour between 700 and 1400 gallons of herbicide to prevent re-sprouting, including the highly toxic herbicide, Roundup. People are mobilizing against this outrageous proposal, which UC Berkeley has done its best to keep secret.

When I heard this week that the federal government would be funding the clear-cutting of 85,000 beautiful Berkeley and Oakland trees, including 22,000 in historic Strawberry and Claremont Canyon, my initial reaction was disbelief. I then wondered how the feds have money for this destructive project while Head Start and public housing programs are being cut due to the sequester.

The trees in Strawberry and Claremont Canyon have been there for decades and hardly constitute a "hazard." But pouring 1400 gallons of herbicide on the currently pristine hills will create a real hazard, and UC Berkeley even plans to use the highly toxic herbicide "Roundup" to squelch the return of non-native vegetation.

This is a true horror story that will happen absent public opposition. I know that many will find it hard to believe that this could occur in the pro-environment San Francisco Bay Area, but UC Berkeley may be counting on this attitude to get all the approvals they need before people find out the truth.

Please read "Death of a Million Trees," which provides all of the facts, figures and background about the Strawberry and Claremont Canyon proposed clear cutting as well as the tree destruction plans for the East Bay. The last public hearing will be held Saturday, May 18, 2013, 10 AM - 12 PM, at Claremont Middle School, 5750 College Avenue in Oakland.

The public has until June 17 to submit written comments on the project. You can do so through the East Bay Hills hazardous fire risk reduction project website, or via email.

There are countless destructive attacks on the environment that Bay Area activists cannot impact. But this is occurring in our own backyard, and activists must make sure that this cannot happen here.

Randy Shaw is a Bay Area attorney, author and activist, and the editor of the Beyond Chron online journal, where this article was originally published.

POLICE SWOOP ON THE HOMELESS TAKING SLEEPING BAGS AND FOOD PARCELS IN CO-ORDINATED RAIDS IN REDBRIDGE

Amanda Nunn and Suhail Patel

9:00 AM

Adam Jaskowiak had his sleeping bag taken by Redbridge Police

Police swooped on the homeless, grabbing sleeping bags and food parcels donated by the public, in co-ordinated raids around the borough.

Adam Jaskowiak was one of the men targeted and said he pleaded with police to be able to keep his things but was ignored.

He was sleeping with eight other people finding shelter for the night in the former Ilford Baths in High Road, Ilford.

All of their belongings were bundled into a police car leaving the men, one in his 60s, stunned.

A police chief told the Recorder the operation was carried out to “reduce the negative impact of rough sleepers”.

But Mr Jaskowiak, 34, said: “They were just taking the sleeping bags and chucking out everything. I asked to keep it and the food, but they said ‘no’.

“I just grabbed as many of my things as possible and put them into a bag and ran.”

He was given the sleeping bag by the Salvation Army, Clements Road, Ilford, over the winter months after becoming homeless when his friend died.

John Clifton, 26, corps officer at the Salvation Army, said: “I’m shocked and disgusted. Why would you take the only form of shelter someone has from them?

“We have tried to find out why they were taken and if we can get them back.”

After the raid happened on Thursday, the men went to the Refugee and Migrant Forum of East London, High Road, Ilford, for help.

Chief executive Rita Chadha said: “I am appalled because there’s no logic in this – it’s not as though if they take someone’s sleeping bag they will automatically walk into a house.

“It’s not a lifestyle choice and becoming homeless can happen to anyone.”

She also said the action will damage relations between the police and those sleeping on the streets.

Ilford Ch Insp John Fish said: “The public rely on police to reduce the negative impact of rough sleepers, this includes the need for us to assist in the removal of temporary structures, tents, and bedding from public spaces and other inappropriate locations.”

HERSHBERGER VERDICT IN AFTER JUDGE ORDERS JURY NOT TO VOTE WITH CONSCIENCE

by Heather Callaghan, Activist Post:

Into the wee hours of last night, after about 16 hours of deliberating, the Baraboo, Wisconsin court decided not to wait until Tuesday for a verdict.

Four criminal misdemeanor charges are aimed at Vernon Hershberger for providing fresh food to his community through a contractual agreement with members. Paraphrased by Derrick J Freeman the “crimes” include:
  1. distributing milk from his “Grazin’ Acres” dairy farm without a milk producer’s license,
  2. operating a retail food establishment without a state license,
  3. operating a dairy plant without a state license, and
  4. violating a “hold order” placed on his dairy products after the state raided his farm.

Prosecution (State) tried to drive home the twisted view that Vernon’s family and barn was a “retail operation,” instead of the membership agreement where the members (who are owners) thereof put in a lot of the hard work there, like a co-op. Also, there have never been complaints. The 2010 armed raid was initiated by the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP).

Along with the growing list of words that shall not be named during the trial, including liberty, Judge Guy Reynolds had shoo-ed the jury out of the room frequently. Witnesses had a difficult time mincing words, almost having to mince the truth in order to testify because they couldn't freely discuss membership details, or why they chose Vernon's food. Jury members were often left in the dark and coached to only look at LAW.

Again, there is no other way to provide farm fresh foods in Wisconsin - so of course, no matter what, he is a law breaker. They are charging him in part for not having licenses and calling it retail. There is no such thing as a raw milk license in Wisconsin and so how could he ever operate this Grade A facility that they want to smear? The State argued that some license was available for $265 and why didn't he "just get it" and pay the price?

In the last arguments, Defense told the jury they could vote by conscience and to send Vernon back to his family as a free man. Defense gave the jury a crash course in abuse of government authority "which led to creation of jury system: 'Conscience of the community.'" They referenced Orwell's "Newspeak" for the lack of logic: 3 years of battle and all the State really could argue was a farmer "filing the wrong paperwork." And Prosecution had 1,000 pages of data but did not interview one member. Defense called that a "Sad use of power & pathetic waste" and compared the trial to Prohibition.

The judge looked at the jury and around 7 pm said: "(you) must base your verdict on the law I give you." So the judge thinks he gives the law. Can't even put into words what an assassination of justice it is that a judge would even say that. Later the judge read "instruction NOT to be swayed by conscience." Prosecution echoed Reynolds, probably fearing how they looked, and told the jury it is not about whether Vernon is a good man or not . . . also accusing Defense of mis-characterization of crimes saying: "The words that matter here are the instructions on the law. Law comes from judge." (Source)

GUILTY on last count of violating holding order.

That last count held the maximum penalty which now includes one year in jail and $10,000 in fines.

This was a completely uphill battle for three years with a judge, State, and agents clearly going after him with bias - even obfuscating truth to the jury. Food freedom advocates, including Vernon and his family, are hailing it as a victory. On three counts, the jury voted by conscience and it sets a precedent dealing with license requirements versus membership agreements.

Do you wonder why Vernon cut the tape and continued distributing foods after the State destroyed them (including his family's personal food) and closed his pantry? First he went to jail on $500 bail and had to sign an agreement to stop. He obeyed. Then he thought about it and prayed. Something was impressed upon him that it would be wrong, and worse, to stop feeding his neighbors. So he acted on conscience and continued distributing - plus his family was only left with a two-day's supply of food and they were probably hungry!

Everything happens for a reason.

Hershberger holding order guilt irony: if he hadn't violated order, wouldn't have gotten criminal trial & jury that acquitted on licensing.

During that armed raid, agents stole his computer and personal files, but of course there is no punishment for that and no recompense. The judge declared that the armed raid and seizure of property is NOT of use of force. It's incredible that anything positive came from this kangaroo court case. It's upsetting to think they might extract jail time and exorbitant fines for daring to disobey a detrimental holding order.

As more details emerge, including potential jail sentence, we will share accordingly.

Popeye from FederalJack.com and I had an exciting discussion and we even had a surprise call in from food freedom warrior Liz Reitzig at Baraboo. Listen HERE.

Vernon told Liz to tell us that you can support farm and food freedom best by supporting
your local farm and co-op. That is also what today's March Against Monsanto is trying to inspire.

THE LATEST ON THE FARM BILL

By: Daniel Horowitz (Diary)  |  June 6th, 2013 at 08:21 AM  |  12

Today, the Senate will invoke cloture on the 5-year farm bill, S. 954.  The 1150-page Senate bill costs $955 billion over 10 years and creates a new shallow loss program covering up to 90% of a farmer’s income – on the taxpayer dime.  Roughly 80% of the cost is related to food stamps.  For good measure, this bill contains sugar subsidies, biofuels subsidies, and conservation programs.  This mega-bill was rushed through the committee process and has only been subject to four amendments on the floor.  I guess Reid is agog with enthusiasm to get to the amnesty bill.

The House bill is, more or less, the same thing; it just cuts an extra few billion of the baseline spending for food stamps, while adding more spending to socialist price support programs for Big Ag special interests.  As an added bonus, it contains a Soviet-style milk productions regulatory regime and new taxes on rocks!

Meanwhile, instead of weaning the farmers off government dependency, this bill has created the potential for an entirely new crop subsidy.  Earlier this week, the Senate adopted an amendment from Senator Moran, which would require the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation to study and develop a crop insurance policy for alfalfa farmers, so they can receive their own carve out.  It’s not like alfalfa farmers can’t take advantage of the current crop insurance program or the new shallow loss program; the special interests always need a personal handout.

Look, we all understand that it’s hard to end 80 years of government intervention in farming overnight, but do we really need to add more programs?

Moving forward, conservatives must work to break up the farm bill. The key element to passing massive farm bills over the years has been the inclusion of food stamps in the package. This allows members from rural and urban districts to “logroll” and trade their votes in exchange for each others’ special interest. The way to break this cycle is by separating the two elements, and demanding that each one stand on its own merit. Rep. Paul Broun is requesting signatories for a letter to Speaker Boehner asking for Food Stamps to be separated out from the House version of the farm bill before it is considered on the floor later this month. Please ask your member of Congress to sign the Broun letter.

NEW DAIRY SUPPLY MANAGEMENT PROGRAM MUST STOP

By: Bob Goodlatte (Diary)  |  June 4th, 2013 at 04:10 PM

Free markets in the Western world today are created and driven by one basic philosophy – that decisions about production and manufacturing may be made by a business, but ultimately their success or failure is determined by the marketplace.

Supply and demand still rule in free markets, as they should. The United States has a long tradition of supporting free markets and open competition in our capitalist society, a history that must continue for our nation to remain competitive in the global marketplace.

That global competition is why I am so concerned about efforts in Congress to create a new supply management program for our nation’s dairy farmers. Our farmers and ranchers are working hard to compete in a global marketplace, and Congress should not create new barriers to letting U.S. agriculture products into the global marketplace.

In the 2013 version of the Farm Bill, Rep. Collin Peterson (D-MN) included a provision to create a new Dairy Management Stabilization Program (DMSP). This brand new government bureaucracy would institute command-and-control procedures over American dairy farmers in the program, telling them how much milk they could produce (or not produce), all ostensibly for the “benefit” of the domestic milk market.

The very fabric of our nation is tied to our domestic food production – our nutrition, our economic and national security, our trade balances – and it remains a core mission of the federal government to support American agriculture. That does not mean, however, that creating new government-run programs dictating production levels for dairy farmers is the proper way to do so.

This tactic of attempting to manage supply and demand by a central government clearing house has been tried before, and has failed wherever it has been attempted. Socialist economies, like the former USSR, determined production levels for virtually every good in their economy, leading to massive food shortages, extreme poverty, and misallocation of limited resources.

More importantly, command-and-control schemes like the DMSP pushed by Rep. Peterson take away the fundamental concepts of freedom and liberty associated with a free market economy. These attempts to have government bureaucrats in Washington, D.C. tell dairy farmers in Minnesota, Virginia, Texas, California, New York, and the rest of the country how much milk they can produce is antithetical to the very underpinnings of our republic.

Furthermore, the basic idea that we somehow need to “limit” production tells the rest of the world the United States is content to cede its share of the global dairy market. Instead of being content with their success, American dairy producers are seeking to expand their production levels to meet the demand of international markets. Instituting a DMSP would shut down these nascent markets and close the door to market growth for American dairy farmers. Instead of telling our dairy farmers to stop producing, we should be encouraging their efforts to market their dairy products internationally, creating new jobs here in the United States and growing our domestic economy. DMSP will only limit the amount of dairy products able to be created, slowing growth and stalling any economic recovery in the agriculture economy.

Later this month the House of Representatives is likely to take up the Farm Bill and debate this issue of dairy supply management. I will be offering an amendment to strip out this command-and-control scheme and would urge other like-minded conservatives to stand with me in this effort.

Congress must be willing to stand up to threats to our liberties, our freedoms, and our free market principles when confronted with an attempt like this. We all know that it is much easier to stop a federal government program before it starts than it is to repeal it down the line. Ronald Reagan put it best when he said “Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we’ll ever see on this earth!” Dairy supply management should not become an engrained government program.

Allowing the DMSP to become law under this new Farm Bill will give control over the American dairy supply to bureaucrats in Washington, D.C., will erode personal freedoms, and will undermine free markets. All conservatives should stand up and say enough to this kind of command-and-control emanating from Washington, D.C. and vote to eliminate this new DMSP from the Farm Bill.

Rep. Bob Goodlatte is a former Chairman of the House Agriculture Committee and currently the Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee. He represents Virginia’s 6th District in the House of Representatives.

Partant de quelques graines – collectées au gré des échanges avec d'autres agriculteurs ou dans les banques de semences d'Europe et d'ailleurs –, le paysan les sème, puis sélectionne les meilleurs plants, les multiplie d'année en année, ET OBSERVE, PENDANT CINQ OU SIX ANS : LEUR CROISSANCE, LEUR RÉSISTANCE AUX MALADIES, AUX PARASITES, AU CLIMAT, LEUR CAPACITÉ À NE PAS PLOYER SOUS LES PLUIES D'ORAGE, LEUR BRILLANCE ET LES NUANCES COLORÉES DE LEURS ÉPIS MÛRS, QUI LE RENSEIGNENT SUR LA QUALITÉ DE LEUR GLUTEN.

Berthelot. | Angela Bolis / LeMonde.fr

En parallèle toutefois, LA FAO (BRANCHE DE L'ONU POUR L'ALIMENTATION ET L'AGRICULTURE) ESTIME QUE TROIS QUARTS DE LA BIODIVERSITÉ CULTIVÉE S'EST PERDUE AU XXE SIÈCLE (cf. http://www.un.org/apps/newsFr/storyF.asp?NewsID=23461#.Ucre5fn0F8E ).

"SUR LE TERRAIN, ON NE CULTIVE PAS UN TRUC CONCEPTUEL, QUI CORRESPOND AUX CRITÈRES DE L'INDUSTRIE, ON CULTIVE UNE VARIÉTÉ QUI ÉVOLUE, QUI EST COMPOSÉE D'INDIVIDUS DIFFÉRENTS...", explique Jean-François Berthellot.

REPORT: DISASTER LOOMS: FEMA SCRAMBLES TO STOCKPILE FOOD RESERVES

SHTFplan.com

In recent years the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has been regionalizing disaster supplies and rapidly procuring hundreds of millions of ready-to-eat meals, blankets, and body bags. Coupled with the Department of Homeland Security’s suspiciously massive purchases of ammunition, firearms, and riot gear, it is becoming increasingly clear that the U.S. government is positioning itself in advance of an as of yet unknown widespread calamity.

The stockpiling of supplies often considered prepper staples has been occurring since at least 2008, and has increased in scope and velocity throughout the last several years. In fact, the government has been buying so many supplies and in such large amounts that shortages have affected the world’s leading manufacturers to the point they’ve been forced to suspend shipments to retail customers of survival foods and ammunition.

The efforts to stockpile supplies have not abated, despite the mainstream notion that we are experiencing an economic recovery and that relative peace exists throughout the world. In fact, it seems that FEMA and DHS are increasingly expanding their efforts. As evidenced in the report below, they are no longer just waiting for bids posted on the Federal Business Opportunities web site.

FEMA is now actively engaging businesses on the retail supply level, suggesting that whatever they are preparing for is imminent and may occur in short order:

Via Intellihub.com and My Patriot Supply:

The owner of MyPatriotSupply.com was contacted by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) by way of email, leading on that something is ready to pop off.

“Here we are, August 2013 and FEMA once again is trying to buy up large stockpiles of food. And they don’t want anyone to know it, and they want to take immediately delivery… I’ve studied history. That is what got me into preparedness in the first place. History has shown us time after time that those who depend on the government to come to their aid during a disaster are the ones waiting the longest for help. Sometimes help never comes…or comes too late.

I do not believe these critical emergency food supplies should be in the hands of the government, stored in some secret warehouse only to be brought out and distributed to their own agencies first,  with the rest of us getting table scraps long after we need it.

These life-saving meals belong in the hands of people like you and me. This is why I declined the opportunity to sell to the Department of Homeland Security.
But let’s not forget the most important part of this:

Why the sudden sense of urgency? What do they know that we do not?

I’m not one to cry that the sky is always falling, but when DHS/FEMA make a move to quietly buy up emergency food supplies and ask how much we can ship within 24 hours…I think this is far enough outside the realm of what is “normal” to beg some questions.

A snapshot of the email from FEMA has been made available below:

Granted, the Federal Emergency Management Agency is tasked with preparing America for unexpected, widespread emergencies, so having supplies should be their top priority. However, that they would be anxiously contacting retail suppliers of emergency food and equipment is highly suspect.

We know the U.S. government has been actively preparing for and simulating scenarios that include economic collapse and civil unrest with participants including everyone from the Pentagon to hybrid local law enforcement agencies.

For all intents and purposes the government of this country is engaging in activity that is, when applied to individual behavior, considered suspicious terroristic activity. They are doing everything their FBI bulletins say we as individual citizens should be reporting to police, including the bulk purchases of meals-ready-eat, ammunition, high capacity magazines, and firearms.

Though most Americans are ignorant of these facts, many of those who are aware of what the government has been doing dismiss this as completely normal. They believe that, should disaster strike, those supplies are being stockpiled for their benefit, never realizing that they will be the last in line when a true breakdown happens.

When Hurricane Sandy struck the east coast last year tens of thousands of people were left without homes and supplies. Where was FEMA? We’re not sure, but we do know that within 72 hours of the grid being down residents of New York and New Jersey were starving and rummaging through trash looking for scraps of food. Those who were lucky enough to find a FEMA shelter soon found out that the assistance being provided felt more like a concentration camp than a refugee center. We saw similar events unfold in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.

The bottom line is that these supplies and the hundreds of billions of dollars being spent by FEMA are not for us. They are being allocated for the elite members of society, not the average American on the ground.

For those who fail to prepare for long-term disaster situations, life will be horrific and unbearable, because, as noted by FEMA itself, government recovery assistance could take weeks or months.

They are preparing. For what? We can only speculate, but the evidence suggests it’s big and involves a potentially long-duration event.

When it hits the fan all bets are off and you’ll have only yourself, those close to you, and your community to keep you alive.

TENNESSEE PARENTS PITCH A BITCH AND FORCE SCHOOL TO LIFT THE APPARENT MUSLIM-REQUESTED PORK BAN

Sunset Elementary School in Brentwood, TN had banned students from eating ham sandwiches, BLT’s and anything else made with pork, but eventually lifted the ban after parents complained. Muslims don’t eat pork and are offended if anyone eats it in front of them.

Radio FoxNews Parents sending their third-grade children back to one Tennessee elementary this school year were greeted with a blanket ban on delicious snacks made from  anything originating from a pig. Sunset Elementary School in Brentwood, Tenn. rescinded the ban on pork just one day after it went into effect because parents complained. Third grade teachers at Sunset Elementary School in Brentwood, Tenn. sent home an “Approved Snack List” for the school year and it specifically banned anything that comes from a pig. “No meats containing pork,” read the memorandum. “Starting Monday, August 12, 2013 your child must provide their own snack from the above approved snack list.”

Kids could nosh on raw vegetables without dips or sauces, fresh fruit, crackers, pretzels, and popcorn – but no ribs or pork rinds. “Only choose a food from the following list to bring into school for snack,” the memorandum stated in bold-face type. “No other food items are permitted.” One day after the pork ban went into effect, Williamson County Schools posted a message on their Facebook page telling parents to ignore the rules. “Schools should only be offering suggested snack choices, and that information will be sent home only if your child is in a classroom where there is a food allergy,” the district stated. “Any reference to not allowing pork products in school is incorrect. Please disregard.”

The district said the point of the memorandum was to address food allergies and approved snack lists. The memorandum did not explain why the school had become a pork-free zone, leading to lots of confusion among parents. “I’ve never heard of a life-threatening pork allergy,” one parent wrote on Facebook. The no-pork rule generated lots of conversation on Nashville’s talk radio stations and a number of callers and several hosts wondered if it had something to do with students who might be Muslim. “Typical list for a Madrassa,” wrote Nashville radio host Michael DelGiorno on his Facebook page. “If you think this has anything to do with something besides appeasing Muslims then you are either stupid or willfully ignorant,” one of his listeners wrote. “Is this school system trying to satisfy a religion?” another listener asked. “I see a big red flag here.”

UN HAILS ENTRY INTO FORCE OF NEW CONVENTION FOR GLOBAL SHIPPING INDUSTRY

20 aot 2013 – A new United Nations maritime labour convention – hailed as a “bill of rights” for the more than 1.5 million people employed by the shipping industry – comes into force today, aiming to ensure decent work conditions for seafarers while helping provide a level playing field for shipowners.

The UN International Labour Organization’s (ILO) Maritime Labour Convention (MLC 2006) ratified by 48 countries, sets minimum requirements for seafarers to work on a ship and contains provisions on conditions of employment, hours of work and rest, accommodation, recreational facilities, food and catering, health and medical care and welfare and social security protection.

“I call on all countries with a maritime interest to ratify – if they have not yet done so – and urge Governments and shipowners to work effectively to implement this Convention,” ILO Director-General Guy Ryder said in a statement.

“This Convention is a milestone in maritime history,” added Mr. Ryder, noting that, as the end result of tripartite dialogue and international cooperation, “it enables decent working and living conditions for seafarers to be advanced, along with fair competition for shipowners in this, the most globalized of industries.”

The MLC 2006 needed ratification by 30 ILO member States, representing more than 33 per cent of the world’s gross shipping tonnage, to enter into force.

The convention has the full support of the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF), which represents seafarers, and the International Shipowners Federation (ISF). Both, according to the ILO, played a key role during the five years of its development and in the adoption of the Convention at a special ILO International Labour Conference in 2006.

The convention is also supported by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), which oversees the global shipping sector and responsible for the prevention of marine pollution by ships.

IMO Secretary-General Koji Sekimizu called the MLC 2006 a “truly important landmark” and noted that its entry into force “marks significant progress in the recognition of seafarers’ roles and the need to safeguard their well-being and their working conditions”.

The MLC is considered the ‘fourth pillar’ of the most important maritime regulations covering international shipping, along with the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS); the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL); and the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW).

These three IMO treaties were first adopted in the 1970s and have each been ratified by more than 150 countries, representing more than 99 per cent of world merchant shipping.

PEOPLE WHO GROW THEIR OWN FOOD LABELED 'EXTREMIST' BY DEPT. OF DEFENSE

Saturday, August 31, 2013 by: J. D. Heyes

(NaturalNews) If the founding fathers were reincarnated today, they'd probably start another revolution, this time to break away from an American government that has become far too imperial for its own good.

And as such, they'd be labeled "extremists" by those who mean to rule us.

In fact, the nation's founders are considered extremists by the Pentagon, according to a new "training manual" that explicitly labels the framers as such.

Discovered by legal watchdog Judicial Watch via a Freedom of Information Act request, the manual was part of 133 documents provided by the Air Force. The January 2013 Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute "student guide" is entitled "Extremism." The document says that it is "for training purposes only" and "do not use on the job."

Believe in freedom? You're an extremist...

The manual defines an "extremist" as "a person who advocates the use of force or violence; advocates supremacist causes based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, or national origin; or otherwise engages to illegally deprive individuals or groups of their civil rights."

In addition, it says, "Nowadays, instead of dressing in sheets or publically espousing hate messages, many extremists will talk of individual liberties, states' rights, and how to make the world a better place."

So, if ye love liberty and freedom more than ye love a big, powerful central government that has grown well beyond its constitutional boundaries, you're an extremist. If ye dare to take care of yourself, to be an individual who grows his own food (weren't there a number of farmers and plantation owners in the group of founding fathers?) ye are an enemy of the state.

Under the section, "Extremist Ideologies," the manual states, "In U.S. history, there are many examples of extremist ideologies and movements. The colonists who sought to free themselves from British rule and the Confederate states who sought to secede from the Northern states are just two examples."

Though the document released today by Judicial Watch was obtained from the Air Force, it originated in a DOD office and is, therefore, thought to likely be used in other agency components, said Judicial Watch.

"The Obama administration has a nasty habit of equating basic conservative values with terrorism. And now, in a document full of claptrap, its Defense Department suggests that the Founding Fathers, and many conservative Americans, would not be welcome in today's military," long-serving JW president Tom Fitton said.

"And it is striking that some [of] the language in this new document echoes the IRS targeting language of conservative and Tea Party investigations. After reviewing this document, one can't help but worry for the future and morale of our nation's armed forces," he added.

This isn't the first time the federal government, one of its agencies or some other "official" source has equated freedom-loving Americans who have an originalist view of the Constitution and its meaning with extremists.

Irreconcilable violence ahead?

Per InfoWars:

In 2009, Infowars obtained the "law enforcement sensitive" contents of a Missouri Information Analysis Center (MIAC) report entitled "The Modern Militia Movement" which listed supporters of presidential candidates Ron Paul, Chuck Baldwin, and Bob Barr as potential "militia" influenced terrorists.

Also, in July 2012 Infowars blew the lid on a Department of Homeland Security-funded study, produced by the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism at the University of Maryland, that characterized Americans who are "suspicious of centralized federal authority," and "reverent of individual liberty" as "extreme right-wing" terrorists.

In the past couple of decades it became clear that the federal government has become increasingly hostile towards anyone or any political movement that seeks to curb its power. Constitutionalists are portrayed as kooks and psychos, while the ruling class is portrayed as righteous, forthright and proper.

This is dangerous, for not only has it made dialogue next to impossible, but it has also created a climate of irreconcilability that could someday lead to violence.

MICHIGAN : TERROR-LINKED CAIR SHAKES DOWN SCHOOL DISTRICT, FORCES HALAL MEALS

Posted on September 12, 2013 by creeping

via CAIR-MI Welcomes Halal Accommodations in Crestwood District Schools – CAIR.

(SOUTHFIELD, MI, 9/9/13) — The Michigan chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MI) today welcomed the Crestwood School District implementing halal meals to accommodate its Muslim students.

The Crestwood School District, which compromises schools in the City of Dearborn Heights, has a significant and growing Muslim student population.

CAIR-MI worked with the district and concerned parents for the implementation of halal meals, which includes halal meats.

“We welcome the implementation of halal meals at all Crestwood schools,” said CAIR-MI Safe Spaces Coordinator Warda Kalim. “We hope that other school districts in Southeast Michigan provide similar accommodations to serve our area’s growing Muslim population.”

Kalim said that CAIR-MI has recently worked with other institutions in varying areas of the state to provide halal meals.

There’s a good possibility the school was pressured by the DOJ as back in December 2012, DOJ visits Dearborn Heights, hears concerns about Crestwood School District.

Had enough Muslim immigration yet? As it continues, expect the Islamization of America to continue at a much more rapid pace – with future generations suffering the most. Halal food in your public schools is just the beginning.

FDA TARGETS FREE-RANGE, PASTURED POULTRY AND EGGS WITH RIDICULOUS NEW GUIDANCE PUSHING FOR ALL CHICKENS TO BE RAISED INDOORS

Tuesday, September 10, 2013 by: Jonathan Benson, staff writer
Tags: FDA, free-range poultry, pastured chicken

(NaturalNews) America's small farmers are once again under attack, this time by a new draft guidance issued by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that threatens to eliminate truly free-range and pastured poultry and eggs. Entitled "Questions and Answers Regarding the Final Rule, Prevention of Salmonella Enteritidis in Shell Eggs During Production, Storage, and Transportation," the new agency report basically suggests that all egg producers with 3,000 or more laying hens be forced to raise their birds indoors to avoid bacterial contamination, which would eliminate consumer access to chicken and eggs from birds raised naturally outdoors on pasture.

In response to a slew of illness outbreaks that have occurred in recent years, the FDA has once again sidestepped the real problem, factory chicken farms, and instead focused its attention on small-scale producers, which generally are the only farms producing truly safe and healthy eggs. Even though large-scale factory chicken farms are the ones brimming with harmful bacteria, which is a direct result of birds being crammed into tiny cages and left to wallow in their own feces and filth, the FDA is going after family-scale egg producers that allow their birds to roam around in natural sunlight and peck at worms and insects in pasture grasses.

According to the FDA's recommendation for a final ruling on "safe" hen rearing, all farmers with 3,000 or more birds will need to essentially convert their outdoor areas into indoor areas by surrounding their fields with tall fencing and covering the tops with mesh or solid roofing in order to prevent wild birds, rodents, and other creatures from entering the space. Having open, outdoor spaces for laying hens, according to the FDA, is now considered to be dangerous and a threat to public health, so it will have to be eliminated.

Never mind the fact that pasturing poultry has always been the safest way to produce food from chickens -- the FDA wants all birds to be confined indoors in so-called "sanitary" spaces where they will allegedly be protected from all the soil, grass and other natural elements on which chickens have always lived. Only man-made structures that completely insulate birds from the outside world are considered appropriate for laying hens in the eyes of the FDA.

"The FDA guidance suggests that farmers must cover their outdoor pastures with either roofing or netting, or use noise cannons to scare away wild birds," explains The Alliance for Natural Health USA (ANH-USA). "FDA also advocates walls around the pasture, to prevent mice, rats, and cats from entering, and then put a roof over it. That's right -- walls and roofing. In other words, they want the chickens to be kept in a building!. This completely contradicts what 'free-range' is supposed to be about: they can be cage-free, but not outdoors."

You can read the complete FDA guidance here:
http://www.fda.gov

Tell the FDA to go after filthy industrial producers, not free-range producers. The good news, however, is that this new FDA guidance is only a draft, which means the agency is still receiving public comments on the issue. This means that, as an advocate of natural health, you have the opportunity to help guide the process along and ensure that pasture-based egg and poultry producers are not unfairly targeted and forced to convert their methods to unscientific ones that have been concocted to reflect the interests of factory producers.

You can urge the FDA to reevaluate its position on pastured poultry and instead go after the factory-scale producers responsible for nearly all disease outbreaks by submitting a comment through the Federal Register. The FDA will accept public comments on this issue until September 23, 2013:

EUROPEAN COMMISSION TO CRIMINALIZE NEARLY ALL SEEDS AND PLANTS NOT REGISTERED WITH GOVERNMENT

conspiracy theories, News, world truth May 22, 2013

A new law proposed by the European Commission would make it illegal to "grow, reproduce or trade" any vegetable seeds that have not been "tested, approved and accepted" by a new EU bureaucracy named the "EU Plant Variety Agency."

It's called the Plant Reproductive Material Law, and it attempts to put the government in charge of virtually all plants and seeds. Home gardeners who grow their own plants from non-regulated seeds would be considered criminals under this law.

The draft text of the law, which has already been amended several times due to a huge backlash from gardeners, is viewable here.

"This law will immediately stop the professional development of vegetable varieties for home gardeners, organic growers, and small-scale market farmers," said Ben Gabel, vegetable breeder and director of The Real Seed Catalogue. "Home gardeners have really different needs - for example they grow by hand, not machine, and can't or don't want to use such powerful chemical sprays. There's no way to register the varieties suitable for home use as they don't meet the strict criteria of the Plant Variety Agency, which is only concerned about approving the sort of seed used by industrial farmers."

Virtually all plants, vegetable seeds and gardeners to eventually be registered by government

All governments are, of course, infatuated with the idea of registering everybody and everything. Under Title IV of the proposed EU law:

Title IV Registration of varieties in national and Union registers
The varieties, in order to be made available on the market throughout the Union, shall be included in a national register or in the Union register via direct application procedure to the CVPO.

Gardeners must also pay fees to the EU bureaucracy for the registration of their seeds. From the proposed law text:

The competent authorities and the CPVO should charge fees for the processing of applications, the formal and technical examinations including audits, variety denomination, and the maintenance of the varieties for each year for the duration of
the registration.

While this law may initially only be targeted at commercial gardeners, it sets a precedent to sooner or later go after home gardeners and require them to abide by the same insane regulations.

Government bureaucracy gone insane

"This is an instance of bureaucracy out of control," says Ben Gabel. "All this new law does is create a whole new raft of EU civil servants being paid to move mountains of papers round all day, while killing off the seed supply to home gardeners and interfering with the right of farmers to grow what they want. It also very worrying that they have given themselves the power to regulate and licence any plant species of any sort at all in the future - not just agricultural plants, but grasses, mosses, flowers, anything at all - without having to bring it back to the Council for a vote."

As a hint of the level of insane bureaucracy that gardeners and vegetable growers will be subject to under this EU law, check out this language from the proposed EU law:

Specific provisions are set out on the registration in the Union variety register and with regard to the possibility for the applicant to launch an appeal against a CPVO decision. Such provisions are not laid down for the registration in the national variety registers, because they are subject to national administrative procedures. A new obligation for each national variety examination centre to be audited by the CPVO will be introduced with the aim to ensure the quality and harmonisation of the variety registration process in the Union. The examination centre of the professional operators will be audited and approved by the national competent authorities. In case of direct application to the CPVO it will audit and approve the examination centres it uses for variety examination.

Such language is, of course, Orwellian bureaucraticspeak that means only one thing: All gardeners should prepare to be subjected to total government insanity over seeds, vegetables and home gardens.

RealSeeds.co.uk warns about any attempt to actually try to understand the law by reading it:

You cannot just read the first 5 pages or so that are an 'executive summary', and think you know what this law is about. The executive summary is NOT what will become the law. It is the actual Articles themselves that become law, the Summary has no legal standing and is just tacked on as an aid to the public and legislators, it is supposed to give background information and set the proposed legislation in context so people know what is going on and why.

The problem with this law has always been that the Summary says lots of nice fluffy things about preserving biodiversity, simplifying legislation, making things easier etc - things we all would love - but the Articles of the law actually do completely the opposite. And the Summary is not what becomes the law.

For example, the Summary of drafts 1, 2 & 3 talked about making things easier for 'Amateur' varieties. But the entire class of Amateur vegetables - which we have spent 5 years working with DEFRA to register - was actually abolished entirely in the Articles right from the start. Yet the Summary , and press releases based on it, still talked about how it will help preserve Amateur varieties! The Summary is completely bogus. Do not base your views of the law on it!

So, be warned. By all means, read it yourself. But you have the ignore the Summary as that is not the Law, and does not reflect what is in the Law.

As you might suspect, this move is the "final solution" of Monsanto, DuPont and other seed-domination corporations who have long admitted their goal is the complete domination of all seeds and crops grown on the planet. By criminalizing the private growing of vegetables -- thereby turning gardeners into criminals -- EU bureaucrats can finally hand over full control of the food supply to powerful corporations like Monsanto.

Most heirloom seeds to be criminalized

Nearly all varieties of heirloom vegetable seeds will be criminalized under this proposed EU law. This means the act of saving seeds from one generation to the next -- a cornerstone of sustainable living -- will become a criminal act.

In addition, as Gabel explains, this law "...effectively kills off development of home-garden seeds in the EU."

This is the ultimate wish of all governments, of course: To criminalize any act of self-reliance and make the population completely dependent on monopolistic corporations for their very survival. This is true both in the USA and the EU. This is what governments do: They seize control, one sector at a time, year after year, until you are living as nothing more than a total slave under a globalist dictatorial regime.

An online petition has already been started on this issue and has garnered nearly 25,000 signatures so far.

NOAH'S ARK and 240 other organizations from 40 European countries have also initiated an "open letter" appealing to Brussels bureaucrats to stop the insanity. Click here for a translated version of their petition.

I saw this coming

By the way, I am on the record predicting this exact scenario. Read Chapter Three of my fiction book, "Freedom Chronicles 2026." (Read it FREE, online.) It depicts a seed smuggler living in a time when seeds are criminalized and people earn a living as professional seed smugglers.

In my book, a woman uses a specially-crafted breast prosthesis to smuggle seeds to "underground gardeners" in full defiance of laws crafted by Monsanto. A vast underground network of grassroots gardeners and scientists manage to put together a "seed weapon" to destroy GMOs and take back the food supply from evil corporations.

Mark my words: Seeds are about to become contraband. Anyone who grows their own food is about to be targeted as a criminal. The governments of the world, conspiring with corporations like Monsanto, do not want any individual to be able to grow their own food.

This is about total domination of the food supply and the criminalizing of gardeners. And this is what big government always does after centralizing sufficient power. All governments inherently seek total control over the lives of everyone, and if you don't set boundaries and limits for government (i.e. the Bill of Rights), it eventually runs roughshod over all freedoms and liberties, including the freedom to grow your own food.

INTERDICTION FUTURE DES POTAGERS PRIVES ?

  Dimanche 6 octobre 2013

Vive l'Europe !

D.C. BARTENDER TO CHARGE OBAMA $702 FOR BEER, THANKS TO OBAMACARE

By Katie LaPotin

Steve Hadley, a bartender at Sonoma, has decided to help out the workers who frequent the Capitol Hill eatery at by creating special “beer pricing” during the entirety of the government shutdown, according to Buzzfeed. Because many of them work on the Hill, and are thus furloughed, he’s charging them a mere $2 for a beer.

The big winner when it comes to Hadley’s pricing scheme, however, is Obama – whose tab would be a whopping $702 for a single drink. Why? Hadley told Buzzfeed that his Obamacare penalty is $700 next year; he then added the extra $2 for good measure.

FED PROGRAM PRESCHOOL SAYS PARENTS CANNOT SEND LUNCHES WITH CHILDREN TO SCHOOL ANYMORE UNLES THEY HAVE A DOCTOR'S NOTE

by Steve Foley on October 21, 2013

I cannot tell you how hyped up I am at this note my friend Linda received today from her child’s school.

Her child has to have DOCTORS NOTE to send a packed lunch to school.

And does anyone notice the irony in the “health coordinator” and enforcement of no bagged lunches?

(pic used w/ permission from linda)

So I suppose that sending a note that says “I choose to skip the GMO’s in the lunches you serve for a more balanced and safe diet as the parent of this child” doesn’t suffice?

This is almost as bad as our schools policies to serve Lemonade and Nachos or Ice cream during Charlotte’s P.E. classes every week.

Homeschooling is looking better and better every day.

THOUSANDS OF CHINESE PILLS WITH MEAT OF DEAD HUMAN FETUSES IMPOUNDED BY KOREAN CUSTOMS

Seoul (AsiaNews) - South Korean customs officers have stopped the trafficking in pills containing the dehydrated meat of fetuses or dead infants, considered to be a "super cure". The customs service had already discovered the traffic last August: from then until now at least 17,451 pills have been marketed.

SOUTH KOREA - CHINA

In 10 months there were 35 smuggled shipments of more than 17 thousand pills. All contain 99.7% of human flesh. Chinese hospitals sell aborted fetuses and dead infants for this alternative medicine that claims to be an energy booster and assist sexual performance. In fact, the pills contain many powerful bacteria. The silence of the Chinese Ministry of Health.

The pills, sourced from northern China, are made of the flesh of dead babies or fetuses that were cut into pieces, dried in special kilns and then pulverized and mixed with herbs to hide their contents. The San Francisco Times says that a test performed on the powder has established that these pills are composed of 99.7% of human flesh. The tests also managed to trace the DNA and sex of children from which the organic matter was made.

According to Korean journalists, who have investigated this trade, Chinese hospitals sell dead babies and aborted fetuses to the Chinese pharmaceutical companies to prepare the pills, believed to boost energy levels for sexual performances.

In fact, according to analysts, the pills contain a long list of bacteria and are dangerous, but to date no one knows anyone who was struck by illness after having taken them.

According to the Korean authorities, the customers of this disgusting traffic are Korean-Chinese who have moved from China to South Korea. Since August last year to date there have been at least 35 attempts to import them in luggage or by international courier.

Some of the smugglers of these pills of human flesh were stopped by police two days ago at the South Korean border. They said they did not know the contents of the medicine, or their origin. The Chinese Ministry of Health has not yet commented on the discovery.

In China, the problem of the use of dead fetuses or infants is recurrent. A few years ago a landfill of body parts of infants treated with aromatic substances was discovered (see: 05/04/2006 Gansu police discover remains of cooked children and 07/04/2006 New evidence on the "cooked child" story as police investigates the discovery of 123 skulls).

In 2003, the Public Security Bureau of Guangdong tried to block reports that some restaurants in the southern province had cooked dead babies in soups to serve businessmen in Taiwan and Hong Kong. According to police, the story was fabricated to damage the image of China and Guangdong. In the 1990s, also in Guangdong a traffic fetuses was discovered that were boiled to make soups marketed as beauty care and rejuvenation product.

On Sunday, a Missouri street church that serves hot meals to the homeless was honored with a front-page feature in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. On Monday, city health department officials took notice and told the group to immediately cease handing out food.

For over a year, Churches on the Streets has served St. Louis’ homeless population. On Monday nights, dozens of the city’s more than 1,300 homeless people convene to share a hot meal and listen to a sermon from Edward “Pastor Paul” Gonnella, 50, whose own previous struggles with crack and prison give him credibility with those attendees facing similar issues.

Unlike most congregations, Churches on the Streets has no building to call home. They meet, with the private owners’ permission, at the Cotton Belt Rail Depot. “You have to go where there is need,” Ralph Valdes, an organizer with the church, told the Post-Dispatch. “A lot of the people here don’t feel welcome in the churches, which is sad. So we try to put out the idea that you are accepted here, that there is hope.”

“We’re hoping to get them off the drugs, off the alcohol and get them lives,” another volunteer, Cindy Cooper, who spends most Mondays cooking for congregants, said. “When they don’t show up for a certain length of time, I call the morgue. It tears your heart out because you get so attached to these people.”

But on Monday, the St. Louis City Department of Health told Churches on the Streets that they must cease serving hot homemade meals because they lack a permit.

The group had previously believed they were in the clear because they were serving food on private property, but Pat Mahoney, a supervisor in the health department, explained that that isn’t the case. “They’re doing a good thing, they really are,” Mahoney said. “It’s because they’re serving the public. The moment you start inviting the public to attend, that’s when we get into it.”

Of course, as the Riverfront Times notes, it’s legal to tailgate or hold barbecues in St. Louis without a permit. But city health director Pam Walker says the two are not analogous. “If I want to cook and poison my own family and friends that’s OK, but when you’re open to the public that’s implying a certain standard of safety,” Walker said. “That’s the standard we have in place for all the homeless shelters in the city.”

Buying and distributing pre-packaged meals, rather than ones the group cooks itself, is allowed without a permit.

St. Louis is not the only city to crack down on groups seeking to provide food to the homeless. In places as disparate as Raleigh, Philadelphia, and Orlando, restrictions on feeding the homeless in public have been implemented. A similar measure is currently being considered in Los Angeles.
