"Puis un des sept anges qui tenaient les sept coupes vint, et il m'adressa la parole, en disant: Viens, je te montrerai le jugement de la grande prostituée qui est assise sur les grandes eaux."

"Cette femme était vêtue de pourpre et d'écarlate, et parée d'or, de pierres précieuses et de perles. Elle tenait dans sa main une coupe d'or, remplie d'abominations et des impuretés de sa prostitution."

Ces versets nous confirme d'une manière, on ne peut plus claire via les Saintes Ecritures qui nous ont annoncé ces choses, il y a quelques milliers d'années. Ce n'est pas pour rien que Dieu nous a annoncé qu'un jour elle serait détruite. Cette Eglise putrifiée, qui aujourd'hui uni toutes les religions sous ce faux écuménisme rempli de paganisme, est remplie du sang des saints et des martyrs et n'a cessé de transgresser la grandeur du grand Souverain Roi, qui a créé le Ciel et la Terre. Elle qui, encore, de nos jours, de par ses fornications et sa débauche ne cesse de tromper les hommes, les tenants sous un esclave physique et spirituel, que malheureusement, très peu de gens semble se rendre compte, tellement ils sont séduits par ses discours mielleux. Ne vous y trompez pas, on ne se moque pas de Dieu. 

La messe Gnostique catholique n'est qu'une adoration au culte des démons et à Isis/Lucifer, un mantra répété jour après jour, allant jusqu'à ordonner à Jésus-Christ de descendre chaque jour pour le pardon des péchés, alors que son sacrifice accompli fut parfait et complet. Ces grands seigneurs religieux se mettent donc au-dessus de son autorité, en osant prétendre qu'ils peuvent le faire revenir sur un claquement de doigt pour faire sans cesse un même sacrifice qui ne peut jamais ôter le péché. Supercherie qui tient captif des milliers d'âmes dans les griffes du grand Satan. Cette Babylone n'est en fait qu'une Eglise de Satan pratiquant la magie blanche et noire, la magie sexuelle, qu'ils appellent l'amour, mais qui ne sont que des débordements de fornications de toutes sortes, de rituels sataniques afin d'augmenter leur pouvoir venants du côté des forces de ténèbres. Toute cette élite, qui s'est soumis au pouvoir souverain du Pape et à la Vierge reçoivent, en ce temps présent, gloire, honneur et présents de toutes sortes, la majorité volé au petit peuple. Ainsi Lucifer peut les manipuler et les utiliser à sa guise pour mettre en place son royaume. Mais...

Un jour, très bientôt, cette Babylone sera jugée ainsi que tous ceux qui se sont laissés berner et enivrer par elle.

"Sortez du milieu d'elle, oh mon peuple, afin que vous ne participez pas à ses péchés. et que vous n'ayez point de part à ses fléaux." Apocalypse 18:4


"Payez-la comme elle a payé, et rendez-lui au double selon ses oeuvres : Dans la coupe où elle a versé, versez-lui le double. autant, elle s'est glorifiée et plongée dans le luxé, autant donnez-lui de tourment et de deuil." Apocalypse 18:6-7


Toute cette doctrine, nous la retrouvons, de nos jours, dans les lois de Théléma d'Aleister Crowley, qui lui-même se prétendait être la bête 666.


La Bible nous dit "qu'ils combattront contre Dieu mais que Dieu les vaincra, parce qu'il est le Seigneur des seigneurs et le Roi des rois, et les appelés, les élus, et les fidèles qui sont avec lui les vaincront aussi." Apocalypse 17:14.

Cette prophétie est à venir lorsque le Seigneur reviendra sur cette Terre et qu'il exterminera ce royaume qui a fait tant de mal à la Terre et à ses habitants.

Babalon, dans le système de la Magick de Crowley, est dépeinte comme la Femme Écarlate, la Grande Mère & Mère des Abominations. Sa forme divine est celle de la prostituée sacrée & son symbole principal est celui du Calice du Graal. Son consort est le Chaos, le « Père de la Vie », forme masculine du Principe Créateur. Babalon est souvent décrite comme une femme portant une épée et chevauchant la Bête à laquelle s’est personnellement identifié Aleister Crowley. Dans un sens plus général, Babalon représente la femme libérée et l’expression de la pulsion sexuelle.
 
Babalon, la Porte de la Cité des Pyramides.
 
Dans le système de la Magick, l’adepte atteint l’étape finale lorsqu’il ou elle doit traverser les Abysses, ce lieu sauvage du néant et de la dissolution. Choronzon (voir notre étude sur Choronzon) réside en ce lieu et son rôle est de piéger celui qui voyage dans ce monde d’illusions. Cependant, Babalon est juste de l’autre côté faisant signe à l’adepte. Si l’adepte se donne à Elle – le symbole de cet acte est le versement du sang de l’adepte dans son Graal – il s’imprègne alors d’Elle afin de renaître sous la forme d’un maître et d’un saint qui réside dans la Cité des Pyramides. Ce processus est magnifiquement décrit dans le 15e Aethyr de la « Vision et la Voix ».
 
Le concept contenu dans l’image de Babalon est celui d’un idéal mystique, la quête afin de devenir un avec le tout. Ce processus requiert nécessairement le refus de nier quoi que ce soit, de devenir parfaitement passif au monde, de permettre à toutes les expériences d’advenir, de s’abandonner soi-même dans un déluge de sensations. Au travers de cela, le mystique arrive à un contact direct avec la vie, formulant ainsi le vin du Graal, étant la compréhension distillée qui est dérivée de l’expérience brute. Ce processus a son analogie dans l’œuvre de la Dame de la Nuit.
 
Babalon est décrite dans divers textes thélémites, mais son aspect le plus édifiant se situe dans la « Vision et la Voix » dans le passage qui explique la fonction du Calice :
 
« Qu’il regarde la coupe où le sang est mêlé, car le vin de la coupe est le sang des saints. Gloire à la Femme Écarlate, Babalon la Mère des Abomination qui chevauche la Bête, car elle a projeté leur sang aux quatre coins de la terre et vois ! elle l’a mélangé dans la coupe de prostitution ».
 
« Avec le souffle de ses baisers, elle l’a fait fermenter, et il est devenu le vin du Sacrement, le vin du Sabbat ; et au sein de la Sainte Assemblée elle l’a versé pour ses adorateurs, et ils en sont devenus ivres, pour qu’ainsi, face à face ils regardent mon Père. Ainsi, sont-ils rendus dignes de partager le Mystère de son saint vase, car le sang est la vie ».
 
« (Ce vin est tel que sa vertu irradie au travers de la coupe, et je titube sous son l’ivresse. Et chaque pensée est détruite par lui. Il demeure seul, et son nom est Compassion. Je comprends par « Compassion » le sacrement de la souffrance, partagée par les véritables adeptes du Plus Haut. Et c’est l’extase dans laquelle il n’y a nulle trace de douleur. Sa passivité (=sa passion) est comme l’abandon de soi au bien-aimé) ».
 
La Vision et la Voix, 12e Aethyr, Aleister Crowley.
 
L’orthographe de son Nom sous la forme de « Babalon » ne fut révélée que dans la vision du 10e Aethyr où ce nom est utilisé afin de bannir les forces de Choronzon. La découverte de la forme du Nom représente le succès de la traversée des Abysses par Crowley et de son entrée dans la Sphère de Binah qui est attribuée à Babalon.
 
La Cité des Pyramides est le domicile mystique des adeptes qui ont réussi à traverser le Grand Abysse, ceux qui ont versé leur sang dans le Graal de Babalon. Ils ont détruit leur ego afin de ne plus être que grains de poussière. Ils sont devenus des Enfants au sein de Babalon et là, ils ont pour nom Saint ou Nemo. Dans le système de l’A∴A∴, ils sont appelés « Maîtres du Temple ».
 
La Grande Prostituée.
 
Babalon porte ce titre, car elle ne refuse personne et cependant elle demande un grand prix – le sang de l’adepte et son identité ego en tant qu’être terrestre. Cet aspect de Babalon est décrit plus avant par le 12e Aethyr :
 
« Voici le Mystère de Babylone, la Mère des Abominations, et c’est le Mystère de son adultère, car elle s’est abandonnée à tout ce qui vit, et elle a obtenu le partage de son mystère. Et puisqu’elle s’est faite servante de tous, par conséquent est-elle devenue la maîtresse de tous ».
 
« Tu es belle, ô Babalon, et désirable, car tu t’es offerte à tout ce qui vit, et ta faiblesse a soumis leur force. Car dans cette union tu as compris. Par conséquent, tu es appelée Compréhension, ô Babylone, Dame de la Nuit ».
 
Le rôle de Femme Écarlate.
 
Bien que Crowley ait souvent écrit que Babalon et la Femme Écarlate sont une seule personne, il y a également des moments où la Femme Écarlate est perçue comme un représentant ou une manifestation physique du principe féminin universel. Dans une note du Liber Reguli, Crowley mentionne que des « Dieux de l’Éon », la Femme Écarlate et la Bête sont « les émissaires terrestres de ces Dieux ». Il écrit ensuite dans ses Commentaires :
 
« Il est nécessaire de dire que la Bête apparaît être un individu défini ; pour le perspicace, l’homme Aleister Crowley. Mais la Femme Écarlate est une officière remplaçable quand le besoin s’en fait ressentir. Ainsi, jusqu’à la date actuelle de cet écrit, Anno XVI, Sun in Sagittarius, il y a eu de nombreux dépositaires de ce titre ».
 
La Grande Mère.
 
Au sein de la Messe Gnostique, Babalon est mentionnée dans le Crédo Gnostique :
 
« Et je crois en une Terre Une, la Mère de tous, et en une Matrice où tous les hommes sont conçus, et où ils résideront tous, Mystère des Mystères, de Son Nom BABALON ».
 
Babalon est identifiée avec Binah sur l’Arbre de Vie, la sphère qui représente la Grande Mère et les déesses-mères Isis, Bhavani et Muat. En outre, elle représente toutes les mères physiques.

Là il y a Sagesse. Que Celui qui a de la Compréhension calcule le Nombre de Notre Dame ; car c’est le Nombre d’une Femme ; et Son Nombre est Cent Cinquante-Six.

Sur ce chapitre, Crowley fait le commentaire suivant :
 

« 49 est le carré de 7.

7 est le nombre passif et féminin.

Le chapitre devrait être lu en relation avec le Chapitre 31, car ici ÇA réapparaît.

Le titre du chapitre, la Waratah, est une voluptueuse fleur écarlate, commune en Australie, et ceci relie le chapitre aux Chapitres 28 et 29 ; mais ce n’est qu’une allusion, car le sujet du chapitre est NOTRE DAME BABALON, qui est conçue comme la contrepartie féminine de ÇA.

Cela ne s’accorde pas très bien avec la théogonie commune ou orthodoxe du Chapitre 11 ; mais on doit l’expliquer par la nature dithyrambique du chapitre.

Au paragraphe 3, NUL HOMME est bien entendu NEMO, le Maître du Temple. Le Liber 418 expliquera la plupart des allusions dans ce chapitre.

Aux paragraphes 5 et 6, l’auteur s’identifie franchement à la BÊTE à laquelle on fait référence dans le livre, et dans l’Apocalypse, et dans le LIBER LEGIS. Au paragraphe 6, le mot « ange » pourrait renvoyer à sa mission, et le mot « lion-serpent » au sceau de son décan ascendant. (Teth ט = Serpent = spermatozoïde et le Lion dans le Zodiaque, qui comme Teth lui-même possède la forme d’un serpent. d’abord écrit ϴ = Lingam-Yoni et Soleil.)

Le paragraphe 7 explique la difficulté théologique mentionnée plus haut. Il n’y a qu’un symbole, mais ce symbole possède de nombreux noms : de tous ces noms, BABALON est le plus saint. Il s’agit du nom auquel il est fait référence dans le Liber Legis, 1, 22.

L’on remarquera que la figure, ou cachet, de BABALON est un sceau sur un anneau, et que cet anneau est à l’index de ÇA.

Cela identifie davantage le symbole avec lui-même. L’on remarquera que ce sceau, mis à part l’absence de bordure, est le sceau officiel de l’A∴A∴

Comparez avec le Chapitre 3. On dit également qu’il s’agit du sceau figurant sur les tombes de ceux qu’elle a tués, c’est-à-dire les Maîtres du Temple. En rapport avec le nombre 49, voir Liber 418, le 22e Éther, tout comme les sources habituelles ».

THE FORMULA OF THE CUP OF BABALON

Read Revelation 17-18

Of the Thoth tarot trump, The Chariot, Aleister Crowley writes: “The central and most important feature of the card is its centre--The Holy Grail.”1 So important is this Cup that Crowley’s Charioteer is charged with only one task: "His only function is to bear the Holy Grail."2 We know from Crowley’s Magick in Theory and Practice and other works that the Holy Grail is synonymous with the Cup of Babalon. However, the formula of the Cup of Babalon, that which describes its function and purpose, is never clearly defined. To understand the importance of the Grail/Cup, we must investigate the formula.

Before we proceed, it is important to understand the nature of Babalon. Babalon is the Lady of the City of Pyramids, the destination of the adept crossing the Abyss. She is the Thelemic personification of Binah, the Great Mother. The Cup of Babalon symbolizes her womb, the Universal Womb spoken of in the Gnostic Mass “wherein all men are begotten, and in which they shall rest.”3

The formula of the Cup of Babalon is revealed in the first six verses of “Liber Cheth vel Vallum Abiegni Sub Figura CLVI”, one of the Holy Books of Thelema:
1. This is the secret of the Holy Graal, that is the sacred vessel of our Lady the Scarlet Woman, Babalon the Mother of Abominations, the bride of Chaos, that rideth upon our Lord the Beast.

2. Thou shalt drain out thy blood that is thy life into the golden cup of her fornication.

3. Thou shalt mingle thy life with the universal life. Thou shalt keep not back one drop.

4. Then shall thy brain be dumb, and thy heart beat no more, and all thy life shall go from thee; and thou shalt be cast out upon the midden, and the birds of the air shall feed upon thy flesh, and thou bones shall whiten in the sun.

5. Then shall the winds gather themselves together, and bear thee up as it were a little heap of dust in a sheet that hath four corners, and they shall give it unto the guardians of the abyss.

6. And because there is no life therein, the guardians of the abyss shall bid the angels of the winds pass by. And the angels shall lay thy dust in the City of Pyramids, and the name thereof shall be no more.4

The blood the adept drains into the Cup symbolizes the personality or ego that must be annihilated in order to traverse the Abyss. As stated in Liber ABA, “...the Ego-idea must be ruthlessly rooted out before Understanding can be attained.”5

This blood is sometimes referred to as the blood of the saints, a saint being one who sacrifices everything, even his life, in devotion to a deity or the principle of enlightenment. “Blessed are the saints, that their blood is mingled in the cup, and can never be separate any more.”6

To aid him in accomplishing this task, Liber Cheth advises the adept to “divest thyself of all goods,” specifically identified in the text as wealth, health and love. The Cup of Babalon is the Universal Womb, and the blood therein is the Water of Universal Life.

When the adept mingles his blood with the blood in the cup, he dissolves his ego in the Universal Life.7 The annihilation of the Ego must be absolute or else there will be dire consequences:


11. For if thou dost not this with thy will, then shall We do this despite thy will. So that thou attain to the Sacrament of the Graal in the Chapel of Abominations.

12. And behold! if by stealth thou keep unto thyself one thought of thine, then thou shalt be cast out into the abyss for ever; and thou shalt be the lonely one, the eater of dung, the afflicted in the Day of Be-with-Us.8

When all of the ego-blood is drained from the adept, he dies and his body is left to decay in the Sun. The fourth verse of Liber Cheth describes the alchemical process of putrefaction, the spiritual or symbolic death of gross matter that must occur in order for the soul or spirit to be purified and reborn.

The little pile of dust that remains is the essential essence of the adept, his True self. It is the “life which has no consciousness of ‘I’”, now no longer fettered by the ego. The dust is gathered in a sheet with four corners, which represents the position of the Abyss between the ideal and the actual in a geometrical sense. For the sheet is a plane, that which is attributed to Binah in the Naples Arrangement,9 yet it has four corners, and is thus a square, a symbol of Chesed and manifestation.

This dust is carried by the “angels of the winds” and given to the guardians of the abyss, and because there “no life therein,” the guardians allow it to pass to the City of the Pyramids in Binah. There the adept is “...received and reconstructed in the Third Order, as a Babe in the womb of our Lady BABALON, under the Night of PAN, to grow up to be Himself wholly and truly as He was not previously...”10

The adept is reborn in the Cup of Babalon from the Water of Universal Life. His name, a symbol of the ego or “I” consciousness, “shall be no more,” for in Binah the adept becomes NEMO, Latin for “no man.”

The formula of the Cup of Babalon can be summarized as follows: The adept drains his blood (ego) into the Cup of Babalon, mingling it with the Water of Universal Life. He dies and putrefies into a little pile of dust (the True Self). This dust is carried across the Abyss, and because there is “no life therein” (no ego), the dust is allowed to pass to Binah. There the adept is reborn as NEMO in the Cup (womb) of Babalon.

This completes our brief analysis of the formula of the Cup of Babalon. Further examination and contemplation of The Chariot and Liber Cheth is highly recommended for a more perfect understanding of the Mysteries of Babalon.

The Modern Thelemite Calendar and the Solar-Centric Perspective The indeterminate nature of the majority of the dates of the feasts of the times and the general nature of the statement that there are rituals of the Elements has left the question of their interpretation open to the individual Thelemite to make for himself. The dates that can be precisely determined, like the feast for “the three days of the writing of the Book of the Law” all refer directly to, or celebrate the process that led to the reception of Liber Al. So, it is reasonable to accept Crowley’s determination of the feast for the Supreme Ritual being set on 20 March because that was the date that he performed the ceremony that was delivered to him by Rose (and which he performed only in order to show her how ineffective it would be).

For the many years that I have studied and contemplated the Book of the Law this passage in the First Chapter has always put me in mind of the Neo-Pagan practice of witchcraft. Although I didn’t publish the essay until 2009, the basic research for my essay the Rosicrucian Roots of the Witchcraft Cult had been done many years previously and I had spent almost a decade looking for the connection between Thelema and Wicca.

Beyond the obvious connection between Aleister Crowley and Gerald Gardner, I was looking for something deeper, a shared symbolism that genuinely bridged these two new age spiritual paths which have sprung from the same root stock and developed in almost diametrically opposed directions.

While witchcraft emphasizes a connection with the earth, encourages regular group gatherings to celebrate the cycles of life and is essentially a feminine form of worship; Thelema makes no connection with the earth, aiming instead at the stars, discourages groups activities of all kinds and is centered on the individual whatever their gender. And yet the above passage indicates strongly that Aiwass was making a prophecy about the rise of a new religion for the people, one that is directed by Priestesses that is based on the love of the Goddess, and hints that this is the outer form of worship for the new aeon of Horus while the inner form of practice is the path of Thelemite magick, the formula for which is supplied in the Second Chapter.

The feminine principal in Thelema begins with the archetypal Goddess Nu although She has no demonstrable form or even an actual positive existence as She represents the negative principal that pre-existed before the first positive emanation issued from it. In this form She is the Ain Soph Aur of the Holy Qabalah, the Light that infuses the infinite void and yet is never illuminating until it crosses the abyss. Even before this She exists only in the quasi material form of the Queen of Heaven as the Goddess Nuit, although in this form she is still a void and represents the space between the stars that are depicted as clothing her in positive manifestations of the LVX. As such Nuit isn’t really even a genuine goddess but instead she is the Mother of the Child God Horus and so a form of Horus as he was before he existed.

The first genuine division of the spiritual forces of Thelema into genders occurs below the abyss, at the upper edge of the actual existences, on the Nineteenth Path of Sepher Yetzirah, also called the Path of Teth. Here the feminine principal takes on the form of Babalon, a secret arcanum of magick that was first explored by Crowley in the Vision and the Voice. Crowley developed the symbolism of Babalon to suit his own style of magick, especially the sex magick that he was practicing in the OTO, but before he did that he had also managed to make the obvious connection between Babalon and the Scarlet Woman of the Book of the Law. The Scarlet Woman represents the most material form of feminine principal in the Book of the Law and together the four principals correspond to Tetragrammaton in a uniquely Thelemite manner. It is this Scarlet Woman that is the Priestess from the verse in the First Chapter and this progression from Archetypal to manifest femininity is the spiritual essence of what she worships in her temple by the use of her love chant.

In a recent conversation with some other Thelemites one of them raised the question of whether the 1946 Babalon Working performed by Jack Parsons and L Ron Hubbard may have had some impact on the birth of the Wiccan movement in Britain at about the same time. Parsons was an acolyte of Crowley who is documented as having advised Gerald Gardner on points of magick and organization while he was in the early stages of establishing his first group of witches. The fact that Parsons was keenly interested in witches, contrary to the general interests of his contemporary occultists seemed to present a tantalizing link that might have been the bridge that I had been looking for.

This all had the effect of jogging my memory of performing a similar ceremony to that which was performed by Parsons and I went to the archives of my Magick Journal for the year 1997 and found that I had indeed worked a magick to Babalon but at the time I didn’t understand the true significance of what I had found.

I had used Babalon’s symbol of the seven pointed star of even points inscribed with name באבאלענ as a portal to her astral plane and the passage quoted above was only a small portion of my communication with her. The vision made certain prognostications about my progress on the magickal path that later came to fruition and it was for these results that I had primarily recalled this particular operation, until the conversation mentioned above.

The feminine principal that is revered in both Thelema and by witches is the cycle of the feminine lifespan from the virginal Artemis, through the potently fertile Mother Goddesses and finally the crones that mark the approach of the dark moon and the potential for rebirth. This cycle is also replicated in the four feminine forms that are represented in the Thelemite feminine spiritual hierarchy as Nu is purely feminine and precedes the appearance of the male principal of Hadit which is the first emanation from the Ain Soph Aur. Nuit is the form of the Mother Goddess who gives birth to the Child God Horus and then the mortal form of the Scarlet Woman is the vehicle for the spiritual energy of Babalon and ensures that the spiritual force to feminine generation will inevitably fade and die as a part of its material existence while in its archetypal form it remains an infinite reservoir of new life that is as of yet uncreated.

Modern witchcraft is only beginning its development as a spiritual practice and, especially amongst the eclectic practitioners it is still forming a working discipline and consistent pantheon of spiritual archetypes. In many ways it is going through the same processes of development that modern Hermetic Magick has done since the occult revival of the last half of the Nineteenth Century and so it is around a hundred years behind the development of that discipline (although it seems to be making up ground at the present). Many modern witches are obtaining results from their magick that resemble the work of the Hermetic Magicians that have developed magick and Thelema into the disciplines that they are today so it will be of greater significance to more of them that there is a connection between Thelema and witchcraft that may help to define the most modern and popular of new age religions.

This ceremony is the first of a number of Sacred Rites in E.G.C. known as Ordinations. The Latin word Ordinare means to "order, arrange, or appoint." The Sacrament of Ordination is attributed to Sol and Tiphareth, and refers to entry into the Path of Service. It is symbolic of the Second True Grade of the Order of Thelemites, that of the Lover, Tiphareth, the mediator between Kether and Malkuth, who serves both.

(The Temple is prepared for Gnostic Mass. The Candidate, clothed in his or her white robe of confirmation, is standing at the opening of the Tomb. The ordination is performed by a bishop, or by either a priest or a priestess acting under the authority of a bishop. The Officiant admits the Congregation, then goes to the foot of the three steps and addresses the Candidate.)

THE OFFICIANT: Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law. [Name], is it your will to pledge yourself to the Path of Service in Ecclesia Gnostica Catholica?

CANDIDATE: It is.

THE OFFICIANT: As a Deacon, do you promise that you will abide by the policies of Ecclesia Gnostica Catholica, and that you will faithfully fulfill the functions of a Deacon, ever in service to your congregation, and under the direction of your Priest and Priestess?

CANDIDATE: I do.

THE OFFICIANT: (Directs Candidate to advance to the Altar of Incense.) [Name], is it your will to be ordained Deacon of Ecclesia Gnostica Catholica?

CANDIDATE: It is.

THE OFFICIANT: (Imposes hands on Candidate's head in silence; then opens the front of Candidate's robe and anoints with the right thumb the center of Candidate's breast with Oil of Abramelin, in the form of a circled cross. If this is not possible, the Officiant anoints Candidate's forehead.)

"The Sun, Strength & Sight, Light; these are for the servants of the Star & the Snake." (Pause)

By the power and authority in me vested, I hereby ordain you a DEACON of Ecclesia Gnostica Catholica.

(Vests new Deacon with yellow mantle, and presents him/her with a copy of the Book of the Law.)

Receive the Threefold Book of Law; "to each man and woman that thou meetest, were it but to dine or to drink at them, it is the Law to give."

(Raising hands in blessing.)

WHO ARE TIPHARETH, KETHER AND MALKUTH ?

Tiphareth, the mediator between Kether and Malkuth, who serves both




Tiferet ("Adornment", Hebrew: תפארת [tifˈʔeʁeθ]) alternately Tifaret, Tifereth, Tyfereth or Tiphereth, is the sixth sefira in the kabbalistic Tree of Life. It has the common association of "Spirituality", "Balance", "Integration", "Beauty", "Miracles", and "Compassion".

Description

In the Bahir it states: "Sixth is the adorned, glorious, delightful throne of glory, the house of the world to come. Its place is engraved in wisdom as it says 'God said: Let there be light, and there was light.'" [1]

Tiferet is the force that integrates the Sefira of Chesed ("compassion") and Gevurah ("Strength, or Judgement (din)"). These two forces are, respectively, expansive (giving) and restrictive (receiving). Either of them without the other could not manifest the flow of Divine energy; they must be balanced in perfect proportion by balancing compassion with discipline. This balance can be seen in the role of Tiferet, wherein the conflicting forces are harmonized, and creation flowers forth. Tiferet also balances Netzach and Hod in a similar manner. In that case Hod can be seen as the intellect where Netzach is seen as emotion.

Tiferet also occupies a place on the middle pillar, and can be seen as a lower reflection of Kether, as well as a higher reflection of Yesod and Malkuth. Tiferet relates to the sun, and as such, it takes a central place in the lower face of the Tree of Life, much in the same manner that the sun is at the center of the solar system. It is not the center of the universe, as one could perhaps argue Kether to be, but rather it is the center of our local astronomical system. Nonetheless, it is the sun that gives light and life, even though it did not create itself. Tiferet can be seen as a metaphor for these same attributes.

Tiferet is unique amongst the Sephirot as it is connected to all the other Sephirot (except Malkuth) via the subjective paths of the unconscious. Its position down the center between Keter and Yesod indicates to many Kabbalists that it is somewhat of a "converting" Sephirot between form (Yesod) and force (Keter). In other words, all crossing over the middle path via Tiferet results in a reversed polarity. The law of conservation of energy and mass tends to corroborate this – in all cases of energy transmutation, a sacrifice is necessary so a new form may be born.

Tiferet is the middle of the tree. Five Sefirot surround it: above are Chesed at the right (south) and Gevurah at the left (north), and below are Netzach at the right, Hod at the left, and Yesod directly below. Together these six are a single entity, Zer Anpin, which is the masculine counterpart of the feminine sefira Malkuth. In certain contexts, Tiferet alone represents all the sefirot of Zer Anpin, so that the entire tree appears with only five sefirot: Keter, Chochmah, Binah, Tiferet, and Malkhut.

In the standard tree, Tiferet has eight paths, leading (counterclockwise) to Keter (through Daat), Binah, Gevurah, Hod, Yesod, Netsach, Chesed, and Chokmah.

Tiferet can be also a variation of the word "Tifarah" and in Modern Hebrew used in Israel is translated as "Glory" (from God – "Elohim, Adonay)

Non-Jewish associations

In Christian Cabala, Tiphereth is especially associated with Jesus Christ, 'God the Son' (as opposed to Kether, which is God the father, and Yesod, the Holy Spirit). This is because this is the Sephirah in which the divine force 'sacrifices' itself, transmutating into the forces of energy and matter, in order that creation might come to be. It is the sephirah in which 'God becomes a mortal man'. Illustrative of the process of Tipharet is Jesus' teaching in the Book of John, "No one comes to the Father except through me". Kether is raw energy as the Godhead and is as such unknowable by the conscious mind; Tiphareth (the son) balances the force and form of Kether and Yesod respectively allowing Kether to assume a knowable form. A Christian mystic, in relating to Jesus, repeats the process in the other direction, by transmutating that which is lower, in order to achieve the divine. In terms of the Kabbalah, Tipharet encompasses not only "God the Son" but also the related myths of Osiris and other sacrificial gods.

The archangel of this sphere is Raphael, and the Malachim is the Angelic order. The astrological correspondence is again the sun, and the zodiac associated with Tiferet is Leo.

Christianity primarily focuses on Tipharet as a driving spiritual force, emphasising the points of love, beauty, self-sacrifice and service in its greater aspect. Particularly the Osirian sect and other derivations of polytheistic religions, with their personification of gods, emphasise the unknowable from the standpoint of Yesod. The eastern religions, particularly Taoism and Buddhism are more closely related to Kether, with their focus on unity and the indefinable aspect of the Divine.

Tiphereth is associated with divine love, with healing, balance and harmony. In comparing with Eastern traditions, Tiphereth is usually associated with the central Anahata chakra in tantric tradition, which contains many of the same archetypal ideas.

Liber 777 attributes Tiphereth as the four sixes of the tarot as well as the Princes and Emperors cards, Ra, Rama, Buddha, Apollo, Adonis, God the Son (Jesus), Phoenix, Lion, Bay, Laurel, Topaz, Lamen of he Rosy Cross, Abrahadabra, Coffee, and Alcohol.

The pre-coronation name of Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie the First was "Tafari Makonnen". This name Tafari (or Teferi) is the Ethiopic form of Tiferet.

MALKUTH

Malkuth or Malchut[[i]pronunciation?[/i]] ("kingdom"; Hebrew: ملكوت ;מלכות), or Shekhinah, is the tenth of the sephirot in the Kabbalistic Tree of Life. It sits at the bottom of the Tree, below Yesod. This sephirah has as a symbol the Bride which relates to the sphere of Tipheret, symbolized by the Bridegroom.

Unlike the other nine sephirot, it is an attribute of God which does not emanate from God directly. Rather it emanates from God's creation—when that creation reflects and evinces God's glory from within itself.[1]

Hermetic and Christian Kabbalah

Malkuth means Kingdom. It is associated with the realm of matter/earth and relates to the physical world, the planets and the solar system. It is important not to think of this sephirah as merely "unspiritual", for even though it is the emanation furthest from the divine source, it is still on the Tree of Life. As the receiving sphere of all the other sephirot above it, Malkuth gives tangible form to the other emanations. It is like the negative node of an electrical circuit. The divine energy comes down and finds its expression in this plane, and our purpose as human beings is to bring that energy back around the circuit again and up the Tree.

Some occultists have also likened Malkuth to a cosmic filter, which lies above the world of the Qliphoth, or the Tree of Death, the world of chaos which is constructed from the imbalance of the original sephirot in the Tree of Life. For this reason it is associated with the feet and anus of the human body, the feet connecting the body to Earth, and the anus being the body's "filter" through which waste is excreted, just as Malkuth excretes unbalanced energy into the Qliphoth. Another way to understand this is that when one is sitting, as in a meditative state, it is the anus that makes physical contact with the Earth, whereas when one is standing or walking, it is the feet that come in contact with the Earth, or Malkuth.

Malkuth is also associated with the world of Assiah, the material plane, and the lowest of the Four Worlds of Kabbalah. Because of this relation to Assiah, it is also related to the Suit of Pentacles or Coins in the Tarot. In the modern card set, this relates to the Suit of Diamonds and symbolizes material wealth, or the treasures found in the physical world. Through Assiah, Malkuth is also related to the four Page cards in the Tarot as well. These are seen as the Jacks of the modern deck. Because it is directly associated with Assiah, Malkuth also represents the second He (ה) in the tetragrammaton (יהוה). There is also a connection to the tenth card of each suit in Tarot. The element of Malkuth is Earth.

The name of God is Adonai Melekh or Adon ha-Arets. These exist in the highest world, Atziluth. In the world of Briah, where the archangels reside, the archangel of this sphere is Sandalphon. In the world of Yetzirah, the Ishim (souls of fire) is the Angelic order. In Assiah, the planetary or astrological correspondence with Malkuth is the Earth. In the outer shell of its Sephiroth in Assiah, the Qliphah of Malkuth is Lilith.

Symbols associated with this sphere are a Bride (a young woman on a throne with a veil over her face) and a double cubed altar. Where Binah is known as the Superior Mother, this sphere is referred to as the Inferior Mother. It is also referred to as the bride of Microprosopos, where Macroprosopos is Kether.[2]

From a Christian viewpoint this sphere is important since Jesus preached that people should "seek first the Kingdom of God".

In some systems, it is equated with Da'at, knowledge, the invisible sephirah.

In comparing with Eastern systems, Malkuth is a very similar archetypal idea to that of the Muladhara chakra. In this manner, Malkuth is again associated with the anus, although technically the Muladhara is located in the sacram bone. In Shakta tantra, which is also associated with the Earth, the plane in which karma is expressed.

Although Malkuth is seen as the lowest Sefirah on the tree of life, it also contains within it the potential to reach the highest. This is exemplified in the Hermetic maxim 'As above so below'.

KETHER

Keter (Hebrew:
 כֶּתֶר (help·info), lit. Crown) also known as Kether, is the topmost of the Sephirot of the Tree of Life in Kabbalah. Since its meaning is "crown", it is interpreted as both the "topmost" of the Sephirot and the "regal crown" of the Sephirot. It is between Chokmah and Binah (with Chokmah on the right and Binah in the left) and it sits above Tiphereth. It is usually given three paths, to Chokmah, Tiphereth, and Binah.


Keter is so sublime, it is called in the Zohar "the most hidden of all hidden things", and is completely incomprehensible to man. It is also described as absolute compassion, and Rabbi Moshe Cordovero describes it as the source of the 13 Supernal Attributes of Mercy.

Keter is invisible, colorless.[1]

Description

According to the Bahir: "What are the ten utterances? The first is supreme crown, blessed be His name and His people." [2]

The first Sephirah is called the Crown, since a crown is worn above the head. The Crown therefore refers to things that are above the mind's abilities of comprehension. All of the other Sephirot are likened to the body which starts with the head and wends its way down into action. But the crown of a king lies above the head and connects the concept of "monarchy", which is abstract and intangible, with the tangible and concrete head of the king.

This first Sefirah represents the primal stirrings of intent in the Ein Soph, or the arousal of desire to come forth into the varied life of being.[2] But in this sense, although it contains all the potential for content, it contains no content itself, and is therefore called 'Nothing', 'The Hidden Light', 'The air that cannot be grasped'. Being desire to bring the world into being, Keter is absolute compassion.[3]

The name of God associated with Keter is Ehyeh Asher Ehyeh (Hebrew: אהיה אשר אהיה), the name through which he revealed himself to Moses from the burning bush.[4] "It is from the name Ehyeh that all kinds of sustenance emanate, coming from the source, which is the infinite".

Keter, although being the highest Sephirah of its world, receives from the Sephirah of Malkuth of the domain above it (see Sephirot). The uppermost Keter sits below no other Sephirah, although it is below Or Ein Soph which is the source of all Sephirot.

Da'at and Keter are the same Sephirah from two different aspects. From one aspect this Sephirah is referred to Keter and from another aspect it is referred to as Da'at. Therefore when Da'at is counted then Keter is not counted and when Keter is counted Da'at is not counted[[i]citation needed[/i]].

Qualities Ethical behaviour

Rabbi Moshe Cordovero, in The Palm Tree of Devorah, discusses ethical behaviour that man should follow, related to the qualities of the Sephirot, in order that man might emulate his Creator. Humility is the first, because although Keter is the highest, it is ashamed to look at its cause, and instead gazes at those below it.[5] One's thoughts should be pure, one's forehead should display no harshness, one's ears should always turn to hear good, one's eyes should distance themselves from noticing evil, always looking at the good, one's nose should be free from the breath of anger, one's face should always shine, and his mouth should express nothing except good.

13 Supernal Attributes of Mercy

Through discussion of a line in the Michah, 13 attributes are associated with the Sephirah Kether:
Who is God like you, who pardons iniquity and forgives the transgressions of the remnant of his heritage? He does not maintain His anger forever, for He delights in kindness. He will again show us compassion, He will vanquish our iniquities, and You will cast all their sins into the depths of the sea. Show faithfulness to Ya'akov, kindness to Avraham, which You have sworn to our fathers from days of old. (Michah, 7:18-20)
Accordingly, the 13 attributes are derived from this and described in great detail.

Additionally, the "Thirteen Attributes of Mercy" were described by Rabbi Chizkiyah in an allegorical depiction of a lily among thorns. The metaphor in whole is known and taught as "The lily amongst the thorns," a phrase found in Shir Hashirim 2:2. A summary:

"The secret of spiritual protection is revealed through a richly metaphorical discourse given by Rabbi Chizkiyah. The Rabbi explains that the spiritual forces that protect and watch over us are called the 13 Attributes of Mercy. They are transmitted into our physical world through the first 13 words of the Torah. When judgments are decreed against us, these 13 forces can safeguard us from their influence. We begin drawing this Light of protection to ourselves at the very moment we begin to browse and behold the mystical shapes and sequences of the Aramaic text, and to learn the spiritual insights presented there." [6]

Non-Jewish practices

In The Mystical Qabalah Dion Fortune describes Keter as pure consciousness, beyond all categories, timeless, a point that crystallises out of the Ein Soph, and commences the process of emanation that ends in Malkuth.

The name of God given to it is Eheieh, the archangel that presides over it is Metatron, the order of angels that resides in it are the Holy Living Creatures (the Chaioth ha Qadesh, Hebrew: היות הקדש), and its mundane chakra is said to be the First Swirlings of the cosmos (Primum Mobile, Rashith ha Gilgalin).

A.E. Waite made mention that Rabbi Azariel ben Menachem, a student of Isaac the Blind, in his Commentary on the Sephiroth granted a particular colour to each Sephira, yet these do not agree with the colours given in the Zohar, where Kether (which, according to him, is also correlated to Yechidah) is called colourless, Tiphareth purple, and Malkuth sapphire-blue.[7]

As pure formless consciousness, it is often compared with the Sahasrara chakra, which resides above the crown of the head, in Indian Shakta Tantra.

In Aleister Crowley's Liber 777, Keter is associated with the Four Aces of the Tarot deck, White Brilliance, Poseidon, Brahma, Wodan, Zeus, The Trinity, Almond in flower, Diamond, Elixir Vitae, Dao, and Death (not a complete list of the 777 associations).

It is said to have a negative aspect, the Qliphah Thaumiel.

Keter is also identified with the former planet Pluto, the Atma in Theosophy and Raja Yoga, and the Khabs am Pekht in Egyptian mysticism.[8]

Also known as Muhammad, Mahomet or Mahmud. Arabic (Meccan) religious reformer, and founder of the Abrahamic Religion known as Islam. Crowley considered him to be a Magus of A:. Mecca was an important city even in those days, pilgrims from all over Arabia made pilgrimage to Mecca to circumambulate the Kaaba and kiss the Black Stone, which was then consecrated to the moon-god Hubal. Mohammed's father died before Mohammed was born. Mohammed was brought up first by his mother, Amina, then by his Grandfather, Abd al-Muttalib, later by his uncle, Abu Talib. Throughout his childhood he was attracted to the world of the spirit. He was drawn to solitary contemplation, and he often experienced visions, some violent and disturbing. Some modern scholars have theorized that he was epileptic.

Mohammed's uncle, Abu Talib, was a textile merchant, and the young Mohammed accompanied his caravans to Syria, Yemen, Egypt and Mesopotamia. During the caravans, Mohammed often conversed with the priests, rabbis and monks he encountered at the various trading posts, accumulating knowledge about the various forms of Judaism and Christianity extant at the time.

At the age of twenty-five, he married a wealthy forty-year-old widow named Khadija. She gave him six children, two boys and four girls, only one of whom, his daughter Fatima, survived him. Khadija's cousin was a religious scholar named Waraqa, who was the first to have translated parts of the Old and New Testaments into Arabic. Mohammed frequently sought out Waraqa's company and conversation.

At the age of thirty-five, Mohammed began taking retreats to a cave in Mount Hiraa', in the desert hills outside Mecca, to meditate in solitude. It was during one of these retreats that Mohammed received his Call. It was the year 610 e.v., one of the last ten nights of the month of Ramadan; and at that time, Ramadan occurred during the hottest part of the summer. He was sitting alone in his cave in the darkness, wrapped in his shroud, when he was startled by a sound "like the reverberations of a bell." He realized that it was a voice, and the voice had exclaimed the word, " Iqraa! " ("Read!"). Mohammed falteringly replied that he could not read. The voice repeated its command. Mohammed protested that he did not know how to read, but the voice repeated its command a third time.

Mohammed then asked what it was that he should read, and a luminous scroll, inscribed with letters of fire, appeared before him. He read the words, though he had never read before. The voice continued:

The vision had passed, and Mohammed was left questioning his sanity. He considered throwing himself over a cliff, but as he emerged from the cave into the night air, the Voice rang out again: "O Mohammed! You are Allah's messenger, and I am Gabriel!" He looked up and beheld the Angel suspended in the middle of the night sky, transfixing him with his piercing, shining eyes (later, astronomers determined that the Moon and the planet Venus had been in close conjunction at that time).

In further revelations, Mohammed's mission in life was clarified: he had been called upon to preach to the world the true Faith of the One God. At first he was reticent-- he had doubts about the authenticity or source of his vision. But Khadija encouraged him, and soon his calling was confirmed by additional visions which revealed the terrible doom which lay in store for sinners and infidels. He began to preach to a small group of close associates. Khadija and Waraqa were his first disciples, then came his friend and business associate Abu Bakr, `Ali, the son of Abu Talib, and Mohammed's slave Zayd ibn-Thabit.

Muslims do not consider Islam to be a new religion. Islam was intended to be a reform of the ancient religion of Abraham, of which Judaism and Christianity are branches. Islam confirms the truth of the Torah and the Gospels, but purports to clarify them, to correct a number of errors of interpretation, and to purify them from the accretions of rabbinical and priestly sophistries. The major reforms of Islam include the rejection of polytheism (including trinitarianism), idolatry, and priestcraft. The "five pillars" of Islam are : 1. Shahadah, Profession of Faith; 2. Salat, Prayer (5 times a day); 3. Zakat, Alms giving; 4. Sawm, Fasting (during the holy month of Ramadhan); and 5. Hajj, Pilgrimage to Mecca (at least once in the Muslim's lifetime).

Muslims revere Isa (Jesus) as a great prophet, but not as God incarnated as do the Christians. Muslims also reject the belief that Isa suffered crucifixion, but assert that an accomplice was crucified in his place. An empty tomb for Isa lies next to that of Mohammed at Madina, where they believe he will be buried after his return to battle the forces of evil during the last days.

Mohammed's circle gradually grew wider, including the wealthy and influential merchant `Uthman ibn-Affan of the Umayyads, the Quraysh aristocracy, and the warrior prince `Umar ibn-Khattab. Mohammed began to feel more confident in his role as last of the Prophets. His visions continued, and included one (the Mi`raj) in which he was carried to the Temple Mount at Jerusalem on the back of a winged horse with a human face. There he entered the Holy of Holies and prayed alongside Ibrahim (Abraham), Musa (Moses) and Isa. He then ascended a celestial ladder to paradise and was brought before Allah Himself, who embraced him and spoke to him (Islamic theologians still dispute what Allah may have told him). He then descended the ladder to the Temple Mount, where the winged steed returned him to the house in Mecca where he was staying.

Eventually, he resolved to convert the pagans of Mecca to the One True Faith. The Umayyads, the aristocratic branch of the Quraysh, refused to recognize Mohammed's authority, and he was forced to flee Mecca to the city of Yathrib (now called Madinat an-Nabi-Allah, the City of the Prophet of God, or "Madinah" for short) under threat of murder.

Mohammed's flight from Mecca, called the Hijra, occurred in 622 e.v., and marked the beginning of the great diffusion of the Islamic Faith. The Hijra serves as the point of beginning of the Islamic calendar. Yathrib was a town founded by Jews, and Mohammed, while still in Mecca, had convinced a large number of them that he was the promised Messiah. These converts had prepared the way for him, and he entered Yathrib like a king.

Khadija had died before the Hijra, and Mohammed married `A'ishah, the daughter of his close friend Abu Bakr. His preachings began to take on a gentler tone, emphasizing the rewards in store for the faithful, and how the faithful should conduct their lives. He preached of the rights of women and of slaves, and preached against compulsion in matters of religion. He won many additional converts in Yathrib, and, with his eye still on Mecca, began raiding Meccan caravans to accumulate wealth. The Umayyads, of course, retaliated with sporadic attacks upon Yathrib. As his followers were increasingly required to kill and die for the faith, his preachings took on an increasingly belligerent tone; he proclaimed that idolatry was worse than war, and that the quickest way to Paradise was to die for the Faith in battle. When he had accumulated enough support and resources, he returned to the city of his birth and conquered it. He reconsecrated the Kaaba to the service of the One True God, and began laying plans for conquering the world. He died peacefully in `A'ishah's hut near the Mosque in Madinah, and was buried where he died. Although he did not live to see the Faith progress beyond the Arabian peninsula, his successors pushed it to the ends of the Earth. Within three generations after Mohammed's death, they had conquered nearly all the lands from Spain to the frontiers of China.

Mohammed had many children, but none of his sons and only one daughter, Fatima, survived him. According to tradition, only a male child is suitable for heirship, so Mohammed left no clear successor to his religious authority.

His first successor, or Caliph (Khalifa), the saintly Abu Bakr, was elected by a group of Mohammed's closest followers (in the absence of `Ali). Under Abu Bakr, the Islamic empire grew to include Yemen, Oman, Bahrain and most of Palestine.

Mohammed could not read or write, but his followers recorded his teachings on the materials that were available. After his death, Abu Bakr commanded Zayd to gather together Mohammed's revealed teachings, recorded over a twenty-three year period from 609 e.v. to 632 e.v., into a single volume. This volume became the Qur'an, which constitutes the holy book of Islam. The Qur'an is organized into 114 Chapters in which each Chapter, called a Surah ("degree"), represents one (or more) of Mohammed's revelations; although they are not arranged in chronological order. 93 of the Surahs were received during the 13 years prior to the Hijra at Mecca, the remaining 21 were received later at Madinah.

Abu Bakr died in 634 e.v. and was followed by the heroic, tyrannical `Umar, who conquered Syria, Iraq, Egypt, Persia and Jerusalem. `Umar was murdered in 644 e.v. On his death bed, he appointed a committee of six Quraysh to debate his succession between `Ali and `Uthman, and `Uthman, at age 70, was chosen. `Uthman's generals added a considerable amount of property to the empire, including Cyprus, Rhodes, Libya, Afghanistan, Turkestan and Khorasan.

Nevertheless, `Uthman proved to be a feeble, corrupt and incompetent ruler. He placed members of his own Umayyad tribe in all the positions of high authority. He revised the Qur'an (deleting all the negative references to the Umayyads) and had all copies of the previous version destroyed. Many objected to `Uthman's revision, but it nevertheless became the standard and is the version in use today. `Uthman became quite unpopular, and he was murdered by insurgents lead by the son of Abu Bakr, Muhammad ibn Abu Bakr, in 656 e.v.


The Prophet's cousin, son-in-law, and adopted son, Hadrat `Ali ibn-Abu Talib, was elected the fourth Caliph. `Ali had married Fatima and had two sons by her, Hasan and Husayn. `Ali had been an extremely valiant warrior in Mohammed's service, earning the epithet "The Lion of God," but he inherited from `Uthman an empire in disarray; and his reign as Caliph was plagued by treachery and conspiracy.

`Ali's election was disputed by a member of `Uthman's Umayyad elite, Mu`awiyah, governor of Syria. Mu`awiyah contended that `Ali bore some of the guilt for `Uthman's murder by failing to punish Muhammad ibn Abu Bakr. In defiance of `Ali, Mu`awiyah proclaimed himself Caliph at Damascus in 660 e.v. `Ali was powerless to stop him, and was assassinated in 661 e.v. `Ali's son Hasan claimed his successorship, but was convinced by Mu`awiyah to abdicate. Mu`awiyah promised that the Caliphate would return to the house of Mohammed upon his death; but after Hasan's death, he appointed Yazid, his own son, to be his successor. Husayn attempted a revolution, but was defeated and beheaded by Yazid. The house of Mohammed had bestowed the Caliphate upon the Umayyads, and a legacy of turmoil upon Islam.

`Ali's ardent followers, who became known as the Shi`a (adherents), believed that `Ali had been designated by Mohammed himself as his true successor, that `Ali's sons bore the Prophet's virtue through his daughter Fatima; and, therefore, that `Ali's dynasty had the true divine sanction to rule over Islam. They accepted the authority of the first four Caliphs, but rejected that of Mu`awiyah and all those who followed him. The Shi`a refer to the descendants of `Ali as Imams (examples), and reject the religious authority of all the Caliphs who succeeded `Ali. The "orthodox" Muslims, who recognized the authority of Mu`awiyah and the Caliphs who followed him, became known as the Sunni (traditionists).

The Shi`a have always been at odds with the Sunni, but they have also been at odds with themselves. The sixth Shi`ite Imam, Jafar, had two sons, Isma`il and Musa. The eldest, Isma`il, had been chosen as the next Imam but did not survive his father. Jafar designated his younger son Musa as the next Imam; but Isma`il had already had his own son, Mohammad ibn Isma`il, and had proclaimed him to be the next Imam. This, of course, resulted in another schism. The followers of Isma`il are known as Isma`ilis or "Sevener" Shi`ites.

Musa's decendants ruled over "orthodox" Shi`ism. Several generations later, in the year 878 e.v., the twelfth Imam of Musa's line, Mohammed ibn Hasan, decended the stairs into the cellar of the Great Mosque of Samarra and never returned. The twelfth Imam had vanished without a trace from the world at the age of seven, leaving no successor. "Orthodox" Shi`ism is therefore sometimes referred to as "Twelver" Shi`ism. The Twelvers believe that the twelfth Imam was taken by God into temporary hiding from the world, and that he will return some day as the Mahdi, or Messiah. It is this branch of Shi`ite Islam which rules modern Iran.

The Isma`ili branch of Shi`ite Islam gave birth to the ruthless, mystical Qarmatian movement, whose secret doctrines were revealed through a series of initiations given in seven degrees. The Qarmatians founded the Fatimid dynasty of Egypt, which in turn generated the secretive sect of Lebanon called Druses as well as the notorious Assassins of Lebanon and Northern Iran, who were alleged by some historians to have influenced the Knights Templar.

Islam contains another tradition worth mentioning here, that of the Islamic mystics known as Sufis or Dervishes. Sufism is nearly as old as Islam itself, and, though primarily centered in Persia, the heart of Shi`ism, crosses over all schismatic boundaries. The Sufis emphasize personal mystical experience over temporal power, and can in this way be considered the "Islamic Gnostics." They are generally detested by both the Shi`a and Sunni orthodoxies. Some scholars believe that Sufism developed through the assimilation into Islam of elements of Christianity and Neoplatonism, but such hypotheses are difficult to prove.

Sufism has it's own list of philosopher-poet-saints apart from the Caliphs and Imams, some of the greatest of which are Abu Yazid ("Bayazid," died 909 e.v.), Rabi'a al Adawiya (717-801 e.v.), Husayn ibn-Mansur al-Hallaj (d. 922 e.v.), Abu-Hamid Mohammed al-Ghazzali (1058-1111 e.v.), Fariduddin Attar (1110-1220 e.v.), Muhiyuddin Muhammad ibn-`Ali ibn-al-`Arabi (b. 1165 e.v.) and Maulana Jalaluddin Rumi (1207-1273 e.v.).

The United Nations' (UN) International Day of Peace is celebrated on September 21 each year to recognize the efforts of those who have worked hard to end conflict and promote peace. The International Day of Peace is also a day of ceasefire – personal or political.

What do people do?


On the International Day of Peace, also known as Peace Day, people around the world take part in various activities and organize events centered on the theme “peace”. Events vary from private gatherings to public concerts and forums involving large audiences. Activities include:
  • Interfaith peace ceremonies.
  • A toast for peace.
  • A peace choir.
  • Lighting candles.
  • Peace prayers.
  • A peace convoy of vehicles.
  • Tree planting for peace.
  • Art exhibitions promoting peace.
  • Picnics for peace.
  • Peace walks.
Organizations such as Roots & Shoots, an international environmental and humanitarian program for youth, show their support for the event on an annual basis. Young people involved in Roots & Shoots may engage in activities such as crafting giant peace dove puppets from re-used materials and flying the doves in their communities. People from diverse religious and spiritual backgrounds also commit to organizing an International Day of Peace Vigil. Some groups observe a minute of silence at noon in every time zone across the world on Peace Day.

Public life

The UN’s International Day of Peace is a global observance and not a public holiday. It is a day when nations around the world are invited to honor a cessation of hostilities during the day.

Background


A UN resolution established the International Day of Peace in 1981 to coincide with the opening of the UN General Assembly. The first Peace Day was celebrated in 1982 and was held on the third Tuesday of September each year until 2002, when September 21 became the permanent date for the International Day of Peace. The assembly decided in 2001 that the International Day of Peace should be annually observed on September 21 starting from 2002. By setting a fixed date for the International Day of Peace, the assembly declared that the day should be observed as a day of global ceasefire and non-violence.

By creating the International Day of Peace, the UN devoted itself to worldwide peace and encouraged people to work in cooperation for this goal. Since its inception, Peace Day has marked personal and planetary progress toward peace. It has grown to include millions of people worldwide and many events are organized each year to commemorate and celebrate this day.

Symbols


The peace dove flying with an olive branch in its beak is one of the most commonly featured symbols for the day. In Judaism, Christianity, and Islam a white dove is generally a sign for peace. The dove can also represent “hope for peace” or a peace offering from one person to another, hence the phrase “to extend an olive branch”. Often, the dove is represented as still in flight to remind people of its role as messenger.

Technically, an equinox is an astronomical point and, due to the fact that the earth wobbles on its axis slightly, the date may vary by a few days depending on the year. The autumnal equinox occurs when the sun crosses the equator on its apparent journey southward, and we experience a day and a night that are of equal duration. Up until Mabon, the hours of daylight have been greater than the hours from dusk to dawn. But from now on, the reverse holds true.

Mabon marks the middle of harvest, it is a time of equal day and equal night, and for the moment nature is in balance. It is a time to reap what you have sown, of giving thanks for the harvest and the bounty the Earth provides. For finishing up old projects and plans and planting the seeds for new enterprises or a change in lifestyle. Mabon is a time of celebration and balance.

This is the time to look back not just on the past year, but also your life, and to plan for the future. In the rhythm of the year, Mabon is a time of rest and celebration, after the hard work of gathering the crops. Warm autumn days are followed by chill nights, as the Old Sun God returns to the embrace of the Goddess.
The passing of Mabon is inevitable and The Sun God should be mourned. We too, must remember that all things must come to an end. So the Sun God journeys into the lands of winter and into the Goddess' loving arms, but endings are a good time to celebrate our successes, thank our selves and those who helped us, and take part in the balance of life!

MABON RITUAL.


Set-up altar and cast the Sacred Circle.

Decorate the altar with acorns, oak sprigs, pine and cypress cones, ears of corn, wheat stalks and other fruits and nuts. Also place there a small rustic basket filled with dried leaves of various colours and kinds.

Stand before the altar, holding aloft the basket of leaves, and slowly scatter them so that they cascade to the ground within the circle. Say such words as these:

Leaves fall,
The days grow cold.
The Goddess pulls her mantle of Earth around Her
As You, O Great Sun God, sail toward the West
To the land of eternal enchantment,
Wrapped in the coolness of night.
Fruits ripen,
Seeds drip,
The hours of day and night are balanced.
Chill winds blow in from the North wailing laments.
In this seeming extinction of nature's power, O Blessed
Goddess, I know that life continues.
For spring is impossible without the second harvest,
As surely as life is impossible without death.
Blessings upon you, O Fallen God, as you journey into
The lands f winter and into the Goddess' loving arms.


Place the basket down and say:

O Gracious Goddess of all fertility, I have sown and
Reaped the fruits of my actions, good and bane.
Grant me the courage to plant seeds of joy and love in
The coming year, banishing misery and hate. Teach me the secrets
Of wise existence upon the planet.
O luminous one of the night!

SALT LAKE CITY — Hundreds of Utah’s faithful convened Saturday for an “interactive preview” of the 2015 Parliament of the World’s Religions, which Salt Lake City will host this October.

“To be able to host the parliament is as great as hosting the Olympics,” said Bridget Cook-Burch, a Catholic-turned-Mormon who attended Saturday’s preview. “It’s about coming together as people in a way that is not about competition, but about collaboration and solving what’s happening on our planet.”

The five-day conference is expected to draw more than 10,000 devotees from 80 countries and 50 faith traditions. Experts predict a $14 million boost to the surrounding economy.

“It is the biggest interfaith event, period,” said Imam Abdul Malik Mujahid, chairman of the parliament’s board of trustees.

The imam, who presides over a congregation of 3,000 Chicago Muslims, said the parliament’s impact will reach far beyond the 10,000 predicted attendees.

“The people who come here are all well-connected leaders of communities … who are connected with interfaith alliances, coalitions and whatnot,” Mujahid said. “We bring these people here to share what they are doing in their faith, to learn from other people and then to go back and do their jobs better.”

The parliament is not an event, he said. “It is the building of the interfaith movement.”

Mujahid and other Parliament of the World's Religions board members were welcomed Saturday with speeches from Salt Lake’s respective city and county mayors, Ralph Becker and Ben McAdams, as well as remarks given on behalf of Gov. Gary Herbert by local homeless advocate Pamela Atkinson.

Parliament organizers then took over the “pre-parliament,” as Mujahid called it, engaging diverse attendees in conversations about the upcoming parliament’s major discussion topics.

The October conference will feature more than 300 choices of programs and presentations, each centered on one of three main issues: Climate Change and Care for Creation; War, Violence and Hate Speech; and Wasteful Living and Income Inequality.

People of faith, together, are trying to create a just, peaceful, sustainable world,” Mujahid said.

The parliament will also be the first major interfaith gathering to feature a dedicated women’s assembly.

“There has never been an interfaith opportunity for women to come together on this scale,” said Phyllis Curott, the Wiccan priestess who will preside over the assembly. “This has the opportunity to be truly historic.”

Curott said the assembly will discuss a wide range of topics, including the divine feminine, the spiritual gifts of women and the issues women face within their faith communities.

Mishka Banuri, who hopes to become the parliament’s youngest presenter at age 14, said she looks forward to attending the women’s assembly.
“A lot of religions face stereotypes that they don’t allow women to do certain things,” said Mishka, a Muslim. “But I’m very into gender equality, and my brothers are, too.”

Mishka is one of nearly 1,500 who applied to present in October. If selected, she will lead her interfaith group in a “paint dance,” in which dancers will blend together colors to represent interfaith unity.

Curott encouraged Utahns in need of strength or inspiration to attend the parliament this fall.

“You get to experience human beings being the best they can be in a context that, for thousands of years, has brought out the absolute worst,” Curott said. “You see people of every faith persuasion from all over the world respecting one another and appreciating our differences instead of being frightened or intimidated by them.”

“It really gives you a sense of hope,” she said.

Hi. I’m Phyllis Curott and I’m a Wiccan priestess. And this is Gia. I have been a Wiccan priestess since 1981. So that’s more than 30 years. I’m also the founder of the tradition of Ara, the temple of Ara, which is shamanic Wiccan tradition. And we are global now.

I’m also a lawyer. I’ve been practicing law for as long as I’ve been practicing Wicca. And handled a lot of the early Wiccan rights cases. I was the only Wiccan attorney for a long time and I was public since 1983. So I have a lot of the early Wiccan rights cases. The right to perform legally binding marriages in New York. The right to perform a full moon ritual, actually, in a public part in Chicago which other religions had been able to use for their purposes. And I consulted on the Pentacle case, the Army Pentacle case. And lots of high school students wanting to wear pentacles.

And I’m also an author. I’ve written a number of books. The first one was Book of Shadows which was the first memoir of how and ivy league lawyer becomes a witch and willing to say that in public. And witch crafting. A lot of which is the subject of the videos today, which is a guide to practicing and why to practice. Not just the how but the why as well.

I’m the vice chair of the Parliament of the World’s Religion, such as the world’s oldest and largest interfaith organization which introduced yoga and Buddhism to the United States, to the west and to the United States. And which in 1993, which is the first modern parliament, introduced Wicca and interpreted paganism to the world.

There are three books. The first was Book of Shadows and the second is Witchcrafting and the third is Love Spells and there’s a new book that is hopefully going to be out next year which is called The Green Man. And will be followed by the Earth Principals. So that’s coming out.

I lecture and I teach internationally. I travel all over the world in order to teach because that is what a priestess is. A priestess is a teacher. And so I’m deeply committed to teaching these practices. Because I really do believe that they are the means by which we’re going to reestablish right relationship with the earth.

The symbol on the back of the dollar bill, is the progression ladder of a Mason into the Occult!





The symbol above, designed by a Mason, actually says "Beginning of the New World Order". The date is 1776, the year in which Adam Weishaupt founded the "Illuminati".


We have therefore, in the 24th degree (Masonic Ritual), recited the principal incidents in the legend of Osiris and Isis … Everything good in Nature comes from Osiris… Osiris was the image of generative power. Beth Kimbell
Sister Beth "Hattie" Kimbell (Sr. BTH SHMSH) has been an initiate since Anno IVix. Valerie Rogers took her Minerval initiation in Austin, Texas in 1997 and received her Man of Earth degrees at Scarlet Woman Lodge. She is now a member of Aum. Ha. Kayla Block
Kayla Block joined the OTO in 1989 at Baphomet Lodge in Los Angeles. She is a member of Babalon, Sangraal, and Alpha Chapters, as well as a member of 418 Lodge. She was the founder and bodymaster of AHBH in Las Vegas, and helped steer it from Camp-in-Formation to Oasis. In the past, she was the Information Architect for the USGL website and the Secretary for the USGL Education Committee. In addition, she was the on-site organizer for the OTO Women's Symposium (OTOWS) in Las Vegas and has also presented at NOTOCON. She is an ordained Priestess and a chartered initiator. Prince Harry was knighted by his grandmother, the Queen, in a private ceremony in Buckingham Palace on Thursday (4 June).

The prince, 30, was made a Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (KCVO) for "services to the sovereign."

Prince Harry announced in March he would leave the military in June after a decade of service, including two tours in Afghanistan.

He most recently completed a four-week secondment with the Australian Defence Force.

Prince Harry is a prominent supporter of charities such as Help for Heroes and ABF the Soldiers' Charity.

In 2014, he launched the Invictus Games, which are designed to use the power of sport to inspire recovery and support rehabilitation in injured members of the armed forces.

After leaving the army, the prince will volunteer with disabled veterans in the UK and a conservation project in Africa.

Harry has not made any long-term plans yet, but like his father and elder brother William, he has taken on more official duties as the 89-year-old queen scales back her workload.

According to the Telegraph, a royal source said the prince was "proud and pleased" to receive the honour, adding: "It is very significant for him personally."

New York, USA—On June 21, UPF International celebrated International Day of Yoga at New York's Lincoln Center as a co-sponsor of a program organized by the Global Citizen Forum, founded by Dr. B. K. Modi. The United Nations Alliance of Civilizations was also a co-sponsor, and was represented by the High Representative, H.E. Mr. Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, who delivered remarks during the program, emphasizing “the key role yoga can play in bridging the cultural and religious gaps among people.” The featured yoga master was Shri Shri Ravi Shankar who guided the nearly 3,000 live participants, and hundreds of thousands more online through a webcast, in the fundamentals of yoga and its relevance to health, stress reduction and human flourishing.  The UN General Assembly agreed in 2014, following a recommendation by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to dedicate June 21 as the International Day of Yoga.

In addition to the Satanic holidays being times for festivities and celebrations, these days are certain points where astral communications are greatly facilitated, and witchcraft workings are greatly enhanced [according to the specific holiday]. In ancient times, festivities and celebrations of this important holiday nearly always included Baal Fires [the traditional bonfire]. The element of fire represents the life-force, and life itself. The ancient Druids celebrated the unification of "Heaven and Earth." What this means is centering on the heart chakra. "Heaven" and "Earth" were stolen from Taoism and are code-words for the crown [heaven] chakra and the base [earth chakra]. In some doctrines, 'hell' is the code-word for the base chakra, with earth at the heart chakra, but for the 'unification' referred to here, this is the unification of the energies of the base and crown chakras. The uniting of both elements- water and fire are celebrated on this day.

Voodoo rituals are also traditional at this time and have survived for centuries.

Buckingham Palace s'est dit "déçu" vendredi par la publication par un journal britannique d'images supposées de la future reine Elizabeth II, âgée d'environ six ans, faisant le salut nazi au début des années 30. Le tabloïd The Sun fait sa une samedi avec une image de la future reine, levant son bras droit en l'air. Sa mère, la défunte reine mère Elizabeth, fait la même chose. Le journal titre: "Their Royal Heilnesses", un jeu de mot sur "Highnesses", "Altesses" en français, et "Heil Hitler", le salut nazi. "Il est décevant qu'un film tourné il y a quatre-vingt ans et provenant apparemment des archives personnelles de la famille royale ait été obtenu et exploité de cette manière", a déclaré un porte-parole de Buckingham

Palace dans un communiqué.


Un film amateur
Il y a dix ans, The Sun, journal le plus vendu de Grande-Bretagne, avait publié une photo du prince Harry portant un brassard à croix gammée lors d'une soirée déguisée. Cinquième dans l'ordre de succession au trône britannique, Harry avait ensuite présenté ses excuses. La vidéo, mise en ligne sur le site du journal, montre la future reine levant son bras trois fois en l'air, tout en dansant et en jouant avec un chien corgi. Dans le groupe se trouve aussi la soeur de la reine, la princesse Margaret et leur oncle, le futur roi Edouard VIII, qui est apparemment en train de les encourager à agir ainsi. Edouard a rencontré Hitler en Allemagne en 1937 La nature précise des liens d'Edouard VIII avec les nazis est toujours débattue en Grande-Bretagne. Edouard a rencontré Hitler en Allemagne en 1937, un an après avoir abdiqué pour pouvoir épouser une Américaine divorcée, Wallis Simpson.

A feast for the first night of the Prophet and his Bride

BACKGROUND

This feast is celebrated on August 12, and its primary purpose is to celebrate the anniversary of Crowley’s marriage to Rose that made possible the reception of The Book of the Law. Crowley comments, “There should be a special feast on the 12th day of August in every year, since it was the marriage of The Beast which made possible the revelation of the New Law. (This is not an Apology for Marriage. Hard Cases make Bad Law).”

In terms of E.G.C., this ceremony represents the Collect of Marriage, which involves the union of all things, not only the legal proceedings of marriage.

In terms of M.M.M., this ceremony represents II° insofar as this shows the soul “how it may best carry out its object in the eucharist of life. It partakes, so to speak, of its own godhead in every action, but especially through the typical sacrament of marriage, understood as the voluntary union of itself with each element of its environment” (Confessions, ch.72).

This feast has five scenes that follow the basic 5-act structure. Each scene refers not only to semi-historical events but also to important parts of each star’s journey in accomplishing their Wills:
  1. The first scene involves Rose, who is the hero of this story and symbolizes each aspirant, and her Father, who symbolizes the “great dragon” of tradition and authority, being a microcosm of the Old Aeon of slave religion in general. This scene symbolizes the oppression of the values of the Old Aeon, both historically as well as individually in terms of the various constraints, beliefs, habits, and values of youth that must be discarded and transcended in the process of growth.
  2. The second scene involves the arrival of the Beast, who represents Crowley historically and the Holy Guardian Angel of each individual symbolically. Rose confides in the Beast about her arranged marriage and he resolves to marry her to absolve her of her obligation. This represents, more generally, the Trance of Sorrow where the aspirant becomes dissatisfied with the world and is given the motive to start upon the Path of the Great Work.1
  3. In the third scene, Rose is then given a choice to adhere to the security of tradition and authority as symbolized by the Father on the one hand or the Liberty and Light of the path of the Great Work as symbolized by the Beast on the other hand. Rose chooses to follow her own True Will, and leaves with the Beast. This represents every aspirant’s choice to begin the journey out of the Darkness of ignorance and into the Light, out of the Old Aeon and into the New. The scenes therefore get more and more comedic as the Laughter of the Child slowly overtakes the Sorrow of the Dying Father.
  4. The fourth scene involves the marriage of the Beast and Rose. Before being married, the Beast or Holy Guardian Angel teaches that she must be balanced in herself before uniting with him. “Equilibrium is the basis of the Work.”2 The Beast tests Rose in the Four Powers of the Sphinx as a form of acquiring balance or equilibrium of the Four Elements.
  5. The fifth scene involves the marriage of the Sphinx and Pyramid, Rose and the Beast, which is the act of conception that will eventually lead to the birth of the Child of The Book of the Law. This can be seen as symbolically reflective of the task of all individuals in uniting with their Gods or Holy Guardian Angels so they may bring forth their own Word to the world.

PERSONS

☿: Master of Ceremonies – Dressed in white robe with yellow stole, i.e. as a Deacon. He performs the role of narrator and conductor of the People. 
☽: Rose – Dressed in red/scarlet dress. She performs the role of Rose Kelly who is symbolic of the soul of the aspirant.
☉: The Beast – Dressed in blue/azure. He performs the role of Aleister Crowley who is symbolic of the Holy Guardian Angel/Beast.
♄: The Father – Dressed in black garments or a black robe. He performs the role of the father of Rose who is symbolic of the “great dragon (c.f. Zarathustra) of authority, obligation, and the Old Aeon in general.
✪: The People – Dressed as they will. They participate when appropriate.

SCENE I: Rose & her Father

☿: Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.
✪: Love is the law, love under will.
☿: Upon all that this day unite with love under will let fall success; may strength and skill unite to bring forth ecstasy, and beauty answer beauty.
✪: So mote it be.
☿: In the eucharist of life, the soul partakes of its own godhead in every action, but especially through the typical sacrament of marriage, understood as the voluntary union of itself with each element of its environment. Every mundane marriage is therefore symbolic of the union of the soul and the elements of its world, and – on a higher level – the union of the Adept with her God.
[pause, focus shifts to ♄ and ☿: We are gathered here tonight to celebrate the feast for the first night of the Prophet and his bride, which made possible the revelation of the New Law. We must therefore go back in time, 110 [change accordingly] years ago, before Rose and Aleister were married.
[A pause]
♄: My dear Rose, I have tended this garden with careful watch for many seasons. The weeds of temptation have been uprooted so they could not corrupt you; pure waters of the Lord’s word were gathered for you to be fed. I have labored for years so that you, my flower, could one day be plucked to be worn as boutonnière.3 My dear Rose, you are like the red, red rose that’s newly sprung in June. O my girl’s like the melody that’s sweetly played in tune.4

☽: Your words are kind and full of lightness, Father, yet I hear a dark and heavy drone that weighs down my soul.
♄: What mean thing could possibly besmirch your fair bosom with weight at such a joyous time? I have arranged for you to be married to a noble man, noble and gold-endowed! All the preparations have been made; there is no reason left for you to fret.
☽: It is just that, my lord. Make no mistake. To you I am bound for life and education. My life and education both taught me how to respect you: you are the lord of duty. I am hitherto your daughter.5 I wish I could profess such undying duty to my future husband.
♄: Do you doubt my judgment in selecting a suitor? I have called in every favor to make for the most profitable and secure arrangement for you.
☽: Yes, profitable and secure, indeed. With that I can agree.
♄: What else would could one wish for in the future father to one’s children?
☽: I would that my heart was as well-endowed as my purse.
♄: A heart requires health, and the greatest health is gained through comfort and security.
☽: [aside, said sarcastically about her father] Bright star, would I were steadfast as thou art!6
♄: What is that, my dear?
☽: Nothing, father, you are kind in your care for me, and you know me well.
♄: Aye, of course I know you well, and you are a worthy daughter for honoring your father. A thought almost occurred that you might be balking at my carefully cultivated arrangements.
[The father walks off mumbling to himself]
☽: Nobody knows this little Rose… I might a pilgrim be.7

SCENE II: The Arrival of the Beast

☿: Later that night, Rose attended a gathering organized by her brother Gerald Kelly. There she met the Beast in whom she confided her secret suffering.
☽: …and he is arriving from America in no less than a week. Though I am indebted to my father through duty, I cannot in good faith accept the suitor arranged for me. I don’t love him; I barely know him! Oh, what a troubling song my heart-strings play!
☉: My fair Rose, duty that is imposed by others is naught but tyranny. A rose is rightly colored with love’s strong pulse, never by the bloody stains from traitorous refusal of your soul’s decrees. [Rose is distressed] Don’t upset yourself about such a trifle.8 Luckily for such a damsel as yourself, I am pledged through a solemn oath to battle all forms of oppression.
☽: Such wise benevolence and incorruptible justice9 you display! What must I do to acquire your aid?
☉: All you must do is marry me.10 I will absolve you of your obligations, and you will be responsible only for your own conduct.
☽: But my father will never accept our treacherous tryst!
☉: I would only that your fate were free, not for any benediction of paternity.
☽: Bright star, would I were steadfast as thou art!11

☉: Ah, you speak in sweet poetry that bewitches even the Beast! Yes, we will confront your father soon, when the sun next rises! There is a budding morrow in midnight12… who knows what species of fortune may flower?

SCENE III: The Confrontation

☿: The next morning, Rose and the Beast went to confront her father.
[Rose enters the Father’s room]
♄: Good morning! What signs do your petals unfold to tell today, young Rose?13

☽: Father, my lord, I have come with my bridegroom.
♄: Here already? What great fortune! Bring him in!
[The Beast enters]
♄: What? Who is this ghastly beast of a man?
☉: Great and wild Beast to you, good sir. Although my friends may call me Little Sunshine.14 I am to wed your Rose today.
♄: What sins have you committed to be indebted to such a devil?
☽: I owe no debt but undying gratitude. I marry him of my own free will!
♄: How dare you! Thou shalt honor thy father and thy mother!15

☽: Ah, Father, every scale on your serpentine skin glitters a golden “Thou shalt.” The values of ages long-since past are etched in your scales. You are the great dragon that I am no longer inclined to call Lord. “Thou shalt,” you say, and “Thou shalt not.” To that, this man lent me a portion of his lion-spirit and now I say to you, “I will.”16

♄: You are indebted to me for life and education, remember? I own you and you will marry as arranged!
☉: There is no property in human flesh.17

☽: I own myself and answer only to myself!
♄: O Rose, you are sick. The invisible worm that flies in the night in the howling storm has found out thy bed of crimson joy, and his dark secret love does your life destroy.”18

☉: O Rose! Who dares to name thee! I can see you no longer roseate now, nor soft, nor sweet, but pale, and hard, and dry, as stubble-wheat. Kept twenty-eight years in a drawer…
☽: Twenty-nine!19

☉: Kept twenty-nine years in a drawer, I’m not surprised your name shames thee.20

♄: Where is the modest woman I raised so carefully?
☉: The veil of the modest woman is the veil of sorrow and the pall of death! She has torn down that lying spectre of the centuries and veils not her vices in virtuous words any more!21

♄: I fear that my own shock and sorrow have paralyzed me. [He leans against a table or bed] Go now, Rose. Go now, you miserable Beast! I must lie down and hopefully awake from this horrible nightmare.
[Rose starts to exit]
☉: A Woman under Tabu is loathsome to Life, detested by her fellows, and wretched in herself.22 To me, a woman is Herself, absolute, original, independent, free, self-justified, exactly as a man is.23

☽:[Rose grabs the Beast] That is enough! Indignation may stir the dragon out of his cave and we will miss our chance. Let’s go!
[They exit]

SCENE IV: The Equilibration

☿: Having chosen liberty over obligation, Rose set upon a dangerous path. Before the marriage, the Beast described the preliminaries that would need to be undertaken.
☉: Through my extensive travels in the lands of mysticism and magick, I have fashioned myself four-fold as a proud Pyramid. My sides are life, love, liberty, and light, and my apex is poised to receive the kisses of the stars.24 Being that I am such a monument of man, I will have no bride but a spotless Sphinx.25

☽: Ah, I know this riddle!26

☉: This is no riddle as there is no sure solution. I speak of the four powers of the Sphinx. One must find and learn and re-learn these: to know, to will, to dare, and to keep silence.
☽: Though these ideas are new to me, I pray that you would test my present ability.
☉: Fine then, let’s jump right in! I will put four questions before you and let’s see if you sink or swim.
☽: Although I’ve been cloistered, I believe I’ve still learned my fair share. Do your worst, ‘you miserable Beast!’
☉: First, what is true knowledge?
☽: True knowledge is not known but what’s felt as innately right, the heart’s subtle understanding is one’s sole guiding light.27

☉: A bit sentimental and a bit unclear, but I’ll accept your answer and press on, my dear. Now, tell me, what is true will?
☽: When the heart’s understanding is wed to the brain’s bright wisdom, the foot walks with a solemn swiftness towards the Lord’s kingdom.28

☉: Though harmony of the soul’s faculties is the prerequisite thereof, you will one day find that the star you seek is within and not above.29 Now, pray tell, what is true daring?
☽: A will that desires demons and dangers on all sides,30 not sett’ling in security of what comfort decides.
☉: Though father Friedrich31 said living dangerously’s the secret of success,32 even Liberty’s greatest warriors require repose and recess. Your answers are satisfactory but I require a final proof; now with Pontius Pilate33 I ask most solemnly of you… What is Truth?
[Rose takes a breath with her finger in the air to give another answer, but she hesitates, looks puzzled, and puts her forefinger to her lips in deep thought]
☉: Wise you are, indeed! Wise beyond your years! Beyond my highest hopes you’ve dispelled my fears. Who knew that a lotus and not a rose sprung, from the dark mire of your education’s dung, that your roots in blackened depths produce fruit fresh and new, that your petals hide Harpocrates in his egg of blue!34

[The Beast laughs]
Ah! this lyrical exchange has quelled all my insecurities about this arrangement. Let us defy convention and pre-emptively consummate our marriage, at least until the evening star arises35 to preside over the proper legalities.
[They exit]

SCENE V: The Marriage

[☿ stands behind the Beast and Rose but not out of sight, presiding at the priest for the marriage]
☉: For the many years of your youth, you have beared the weight of tradition and custom as a camel. You then defied law and convention as a lion, replacing the “Thou shalt” of tradition with the “I will” of independence. Now, having created freedom for yourself, you must become as a little Child,36 and find your own way with a holy Yea unto one’s new life.
☽: What a heavy burden has been lifted from me! I can feel the lightness of liberty that this new life allows!
☉: On the contrary, my dear Rose, for freedom is the greatest restriction of all. Having extricated yourself from the web of obligations to others, one must re-affirm with equal intensity one’s duty to oneself. Though the Child of the spirit is free from all convention, he is bound with equal obligation to his own law. You must find your true destiny, the purpose on this earth for which you were fitted, and adhere solely to it. This is the apotheosis of Freedom but it is also the strictest possible bond,37 for having begun to tread the path of the Great Work, you are bound to continue walking thereupon and never swerve therefrom.
☽: What a strange and terrible oath I have unknowingly taken!
☉: Terrible, indeed, the most daunting task that one can possibly attempt. Yet it is also the path to complete peace, true wisdom, and perfect happiness.
☽: What is my goal upon this long and winding road of attainment?
☉: One must never ask or ponder about the final goal but always focus one’s energies upon taking the Next Step.38

☽: My love for you is undeniable and unconquerable. Lead me to take this Next Step!
☉: Love is indeed the right motive and fuel for this path, yet your marriage to me is but a symbol of your true goal. Even as you wed me today, you must seek the inward marriage of the soul with your God. With all the love you love me today, it must be inflamed a thousandfold towards the attainment of the Knowledge and Conversation of the Holy Guardian Angel. Though I vow to guide you in whatever way may be of use, you must do the work and it is only you that may take the final plunge. No one can ever do that for you, nor can any man ever know the Name of another’s God. It is the most universal and unique of all goals, it is the Holy of Holies.39

☽: I vow to attain the Knowledge and Conversation of my Holy Guardian Angel. Nothing will deflect me from this most holy and austere obligation.
☉: May this ring be a seal of your solemn oath, forever reminding you of the promise you made today.
[☿ approaches to stand between the Beast and Rose]
☿: With your vows being made, I now proclaim you man and wife!
[The Beast whispers in ☉: It is accomplished, the marriage is complete. What Child this union may bring we know not yet. There are many events in the womb of time which will be delivered.40 For our honeymoon we will travel to the land of the Sun. To Egypt, where the other Sphinx and Pyramid stand as we now do!
[The Beast and Rose exit]
☿: It was on this day of August 12, the first night of the Prophet and his bride, that the events were set in motion which would lead to the revelation of the New Aeon several months later with the reception of The Book of the Law. Even as Rose’s marriage to the Beast led to the birth of the Child of the New Aeon, so too must each individual come to unite with their own Gods and give their Words to the world. So mote it be.
[Applause]

THE FEAST

☿: But ye, o my people, rise up & awake!
[☿ motions for all to stand]
Let the rituals be rightly performed with joy & beauty! There are rituals of the elements and feasts of the times.41 Tonight there is a feast for the first night of the Prophet and his Bride!42
[☿ motions for the feast to be brought out and for everyone to sit at the table or stand around the table with food]
Aye! feast! rejoice! there is no dread hereafter. There is the dissolution, and eternal ecstasy in the kisses of Nu.43

[☽ stands at the head of the table and knocks 3-5-3]
☽: Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.
✪: What is thy Will?
☽: It is my Will to eat and to drink.
✪: To what end?
☽: That I may fortify my body thereby.
✪: To what end?
☽: That I may celebrate the feast of the first night of the Prophet and his Bride.
✪: To what end?
☽: That I may accomplish the Great Work.
✪: Love is the law, love under will.
[☽ knocks once]
☽: Now please direct your attention to the Beast.
☉: I’d like to make a toast, so everyone please get a drink.
[☿ and other appointed helpers give everyone a glass and pours drinks]
☉: First, as always, to Nuit, our Lady of the Stars!

☉: To Rose, who played an integral part in the revelation of the New Aeon!

☉: To the prophet of the lovely star, the Beast!

THE NEW WORLD RELIGION

(The text of this pamphlet is adapted from two books by Alice A. Bailey -- The Reappearance of the Christ and The Externalisation of the Hierarchy both published by Lucis Publishing Company, New York and Lucis Press Limited, London.)

Religion is the name given to the invocative appeal of humanity and the evocative response of the greater Life to that cry.

The truly religious spirit is more fundamentally alive today than at any previous time. Everywhere people are ready for the light and expectant of a new revelation.
Only great and fundamental principles of living can really meet mankind's need. Religion in the new age must be based on truths which are universally accepted. These are:

  1. The fact of God, both transcendent and immanent.
  2. Man's relationship to God; we are all "sons of the one father."
  3. The fact of immortality and of eternal persistence, arising from man's essential divinity.
  4. The Continuity of Revelation and the Divine Approaches; God has never left Himself without witnesses.
  5. The fact of our relationship with each other, or of human brotherhood.
  6. The fact of the Path to God, trodden down the ages by mystics, occultists and saints of every religious faith.

The source of all the great world religions and philosophies is the spiritual Hierarchy of the planet, whose members are called the custodians of the divine Plan.

Today another great approach of God to Man, a new revelation is possible. Humanity awaits the reappearance of the world teacher, head of the spiritual Hierarchy, known as the Christ in the West and the Lord Maitreya in the East, and recognised by many names -- Messiah, Imam Mahdi, Zarathustra -- in the different world religions.


The concept of a world religion and the fusion of faiths is now a field of discussion. In the future world all men of spiritual inclination and intention will keep the same holy days, pooling their spiritual resources in a united and simultaneous spiritual invocation.

God works in many ways, through many faiths and religious agencies. The universal platform of the new world religion will be built by emphasising essential doctrines and the unity and fellowship of the spirit.

The New World Religion

Human beings everywhere are searching for spiritual release and truth, and the truly religious spirit is more fundamentally alive than at any previous time. The ferment and conflict in the world has permeated the churches; enlightened churchmen and religious thinkers are seeking an end to age-oId conflicts between differing sects, and are searching for the living reality behind the outer forms. Orthodoxy in the world religions is rapidly falling into the background of men's minds, while we are undoubtedly approaching nearer to the central spiritual reality.

Some of the questions that are being asked by spiritual people, both within and outside the churches and in all faiths, can be expressed as follows:

Why has the church been unable to arrest the overpowering expression of evil, as evidenced in the last world war?

Why has religion proved inadequate to the need humanity?

Why have so many leaders of the religious world proved themselves incompetent to aid in the solution of the world problems?

Why, as exponents of the God of Love, have Christian teachers been unable to arrest the unparalleled growth of hate in the world today?

Why have eastern religious teachers, custodians of a spiritual psychology and the art of individual unfoldment, been unable to apply this wisdom to raising their peoples from starvation, poverty and degraded living?

Why do so many young people refuse to go to church and lack interest in accepting the doctrines presented for their belief?

Why do so many new cults arise and attract the people away from orthodox organisations of a religious nature?

Why is there a growing emphasis in the West upon the Eastern theologies, upon the various yogas, upon Buddhist teachings and oriental faiths?

What is wrong with our presentation of the spiritual realities and the truths of the ages?

Many answers can be given. The most important one is that the presentation of divine truth, as given by the churches in the West and by the teachers in the East, has not kept pace with the unfolding intellect of the human spirit. The same old forms of words and of ideas are still all too often handed out to the enquirer and they do not satisfy his mind nor do they meet his practical need in a most difficult world. He is asked to give unquestioning belief but not to understand; he is asked to accept the interpretations and the affirmations of other human minds who claim that they do understand and that they have the truth. He does not believe that their minds and their interpretations are any better than his.

It is not the evil rampant in the world today which is hindering the revelation and hindering the unfoldment of the spiritual life. It is the failure of the religious organisations throughout the world to preserve the truth in its purity and to avoid the fanatical idea that anyone's individual interpretation of the truth must necessarily be the only and correct one.




In the language of Christianity:

The church today is the tomb of the Christ and the stone of theology has been rolled to the door of the sepulchre.

There is however, no point in attacking Christianity. Christianity cannot rightly be attacked; it is an expression -- in essence, if not yet entirely factual -- of the love of God, immanent in His created universe.

Churchianity has, however, laid itself wide open to attack, and the mass of thinking people are aware of this; unfortunately, these thinking people are still a minority within the churches. Nevertheless, it is this thinking minority which, when it is a majority, will spell the doom of churchianity and endorse the spread of the true teaching of the Christ.

The question arises whether Christ would he at home in the churches if He walked again among men. The rituals and the ceremonies, the pomp and the vestments, the candles and the gold and silver, the graded order of popes, cardinals, archbishops, canons and ordinary rectors, pastors and clergy would seemingly have small interest for the simple Son of God, Who--when on earth--had nowhere to lay His head.

How can the starving children of the world he salvaged when pleas go out for money to build cathedrals and erect more churches when in many parts of the world the existent churches often stand nearly empty? How can the spiritual and intellectual needs of the people be met when the theological seminaries send out young men to guide humanity who are grounded largely in the past interpretations? Is it not possible that the Christ may regard the separative life of the churches and the arrogance of the theologians as wrong and undesirable--dividing (as they have) the world into believer and unbeliever, into Christian and heathen, into the so-called enlightened and the so-caIled benighted--and as contrary to all that He Himself held and believed when He said, "Other sheep I have which are not of this fold." (John X:16)

The presentation of religious truth in the past has blocked the growth of the religious spirit; theology has brought mankind to the very gates of despair; the delicate flower of the Christ life has been stunted and arrested in the dark caves of man's thinking; fanatical adherence to human interpretations has taken the place of Christian living; millions of books have obliterated the living words of Christ; the arguments and discussions of priests have put out the light which the Buddha brought, and the love of God as revealed by the life of Christ has been forgotten whilst men have quarrelled over meanings, over phrases and words. In the meantime, men have agonised, starved, suffered, demanded help and instruction and, unsatisfied, have lost faith.

Today everywhere people are ready for the light; they are expectant of a new revelation and of a new dispensation, and humanity has advanced so far on the way of evolution that these demands and expectations are not couched in terms of material betterment only, but in terms of a spiritual vision, true values and right human relations. They are demanding teaching and spiritual help along with the necessary requests for food, clothes and the opportunity to work and live in freedom; they face famine in large areas of the world and yet are registering (with equal dismay) the famine of the soul.

We are surely not in error if we conclude that this spiritual dismay and this spiritual demand have assumed a paramount place in the consciousness of the Christ When He reappears and when His Church, hitherto invisible, appears with Him, what can They do to meet this demanding cry and this intensified attitude of spiritual perception with which They will be greeted? They see the picture whole. The cry of the Christian for spiritual help, the cry of the Buddhist for spiritual enlightenment, and the cry of the Hindu for spiritual understanding -- along with the cries of all those who have faith or have no faith--must be met. The demands of humanity are rising to Their ears and the Christ and His disciples have no sectarian scruples, of that we may be sure. It is impossible to believe that They are interested in the views of the fundamentalists or in the theories of the theologians upon the Virgin Birth, the Vicarious Atonement or the Infallibility of the Pope. Humanity is in desperate need and that need must be met; only great and fundamental principles of living, covering the past and the present and providing a platform for the future, will really meet that human invocation. The Christ and the spiritual Hierarchy will not come to destroy all that humanity has hitherto found "necessary to salvation," and all that has met its spiritual demand. When the Christ reappears, the non-essentials will surely disappear; the fundamentals of faith will remain, upon which He can build that new world religion for which all men wait. That new world religion must be based upon those truths which have stood the test of ages and which have brought assurance and comfort to men everywhere. These surely are:




1. The Fact of God


First and foremost, there must be recognition of the fact of God. That central Reality can be called by any name that man may choose according to his mental or emotional bent, racial tradition and heritage, for it cannot be defined or conditioned by names. Human beings perforce always use names in order to express that which they sense, feel and know, both of the phenomenal and also of the intangible. Consciously or unconsciously, all men recognise God Transcendent and God Immanent. They sense God to be the Creator and the Inspiration of all that is.

The Eastern faiths have ever emphasised God Immanent, deep within the human heart, "nearer than hands and feet," the Self, the One, the Atma, smaller than the small, yet all-comprehensive. The Western faiths have presented God Transcendent, outside His universe, an Onlooker. God transcendent, first of all, conditioned men's concept of Deity, for the action of this transcendent God appeared in the process of nature; later, in the Jewish dispensation, God appeared as the tribal Jehovah, as the soul of a nation. Next, God was seen as a perfected man, and the divine God-man walked the Earth in the Person of Christ. Today we have a rapidly growing emphasis upon God immanent in every human being and in every created form. Today, we should have the churches presenting a synthesis of these two ideas which have been summed up for us in the statement of Shri Krishna in The Bhagavad Gita: "Having pervaded this whole universe with a fragment of Myself, I remain." God, greater than the created whole, yet God present also in the part; God Transcendent guarantees the plan for our world and is the Purpose, conditioning all lives from the minutest atom, up through all the kingdoms of nature, to man.
