PAX CHRISTI INTERNATIONAL IN FAVOUR OF RECOGNATION OF THE STATE OF PALESTINE AND A BAN ON SETTLEMENTS

World Assembly in Bethlehem affirms its stand in favour of nonviolent struggle against occupation

The World Assembly of Pax Christi urges all UN-member states to recognize the state of Palestine and to ban Israeli settlements in occupied Palestine. The 160 participants in the Assembly of the international Catholic peace movement in Bethlehem/West Bank from 13th to 17th of May are deeply concerned about Israeli policies that deny the rights of the Palestinian people and preclude the possibility of a two state solution. Pax Christi International supports Palestinians in their nonviolent struggle to end occupation and Israelis who stand for human rights and international law, including as applied to Palestinians.

Pax Christi International welcomes the Vatican's recognition of Palestine as a sovereign state and believes that bilateral recognition is an important acknowledgement of the right of Palestinians to self-determination. With the new Israeli government's refusal to turn 22% of the land of the former Palestine Mandate into the new state of Palestine, the UN must implement UNSC Resolution 242, by which Israel is required to withdraw from the territories occupied since 1967.

Since the Israeli government continues to allow the building of new settlements and the enlargement of existing settlements, both of which are violations of international humanitarian law, all collaboration with occupation must end. Third parties, including the US, the Russian Federation and EU member states are responsible for ensuring respect for international law. In order to prevent settlements from becoming profitable, settlement products should be banned. With Palestine a member of the International Criminal Court, war crimes can be sentenced now.

Participants in the Assembly, who came from five continents, joined the Nakba commemoration in Bethlehem. They remembered the 750,000 Palestinians who were driven out or fled in 1947/1948, as well as the ongoing Nakba, which threatens Palestinians with expulsion from home and land at any time. They visited refugee camps and farmers in villages in the Jordan Valley and in the south of Hebron, where farmers expect the Israeli military to destroy their houses, water systems and stables if the international community does not act to prevent such violations of international law.

Pax Christi International encourages Palestinian and Israeli human rights and peace organizations to continue their work for a just peace in the Middle East based on human rights and international law and proclaims its solidarity with these groups. Pax Christi encourages all pilgrimages to the Holy Land to engage with the local people of Palestine. Without hope and vision and solidarity neither the oppressed nor the oppressor can find a way out of violence, war and a culture of death. To stand for life is Pax Christi's international responsibility.

Op-Ed: POPE FRANCIS TO BE "TRIED" IN JERUSALEM

The Pope plans a visit to Washington, but the Sanhedrin plans a "trial" in Jerusalem.

Published: Monday, August 24, 2015 6:39 PM

Giulio Meotti

On September 9 at 12 am, a special “trial” will be set for Pope Francis in Mount Zion, Jerusalem. The "Sanhedrin", an unnoffical body modelled after the religious High Court composed of 71 sages of Temple times, will "prosecute" the Vatican for its policy on Jerusalem.

The idea for a "trial" was promoted when the Vatican officially recognized the political body known as the Palestinian Authority as a state, and began to refer to it as such in official documents. “Unfortunately, these recent actions by His Excellency (the Pope) are part of a long history of activity and positions on the part of the Roman Catholic Church, which apparently has never abandoned its mission to persecute the People of Israel for refusing to recognize the church's savior as the Messiah of Israel and to force them to surrender to its religious doctrine” says the Sanhedrin.

It also explains that “the Vatican should desist from its encouragement of the occupying entity of the Land of Israel, known as the Palestinian Authority, and from referring to it as a ‘state’. Further, we request that the Pope instruct the Vatican that the sole claimant of Divine right to the Land of Israel is the nation of Israel. This will certainly contribute much more to genuine peace than encouraging the PA ‘angel of peace’ who till now, has only contributed hostility and war”.

Continuing, they write: “We are surprised at how you could bestow such honor on a man who is a Holocaust denier, who has stated his refusal to allow even one Jew to live in ‘his’ future state, let alone become a citizen of such state, while at same time the State of Israel - the state of the Jewish Nation - whether willingly or unwillingly, hosts on its land millions of  Arabs who enjoy human and civil rights on a level unparalleled in their long history. We encourage the Vatican to adopt the seven Noahide laws, in particular, to reform its attitude to Israel and the Jewish nation, to seek and pursue justice, as is demanded by that eternal code”. = Seven Laws of Noah https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven_Laws_of_Noah

Pope Francis will be judged in absentia by the Sanhedrin and it will be interesting to see if someone from the Catholic Church will decide to participate in the debate. Mount Zion has a very special historic meaning, since the day after Pope John Paul II celebrated a mass on Mt. Zion in 2000, he went to Yasser Arafat's headquarter to support the Palestinians’ so-called "right of return".

The Jewish court’s rulings have no legal status but they do have spiritual, political and cultural significance. This will be the most significant confrontation between a Jewish authority and the Catholic Church on the single most important issue: Jewish legitimate and exclusive rights over Jerusalem and Eretz Israel.

The representatives of the "High Court" are Rabbi Yoel Schwartz, Rabbi Dov Levanoni, Rabbi Israel Ariel, Rabbi Daniel Stavsky, Rabbi Yehuda Edri, and Rabbi Dov Meir Shtein. “The miracle of the State of Israel as divine redemption made some of the Gentiles envious because of the proof it gave that we are the chosen people”, says Sanhedrin member Professor Hillel Weiss. “The government's representatives defend themselves by speaking only of security, but there is much more to the story. The Court of Sanhedrin decided not to keep silent. The Vatican said that the holy city of Jerusalem belongs to the Palestinian Arabs. We had no choice but to take upon our shoulders the task of speaking the truth”.

Although the initiative is only symbolic, the"indictment" contains truths that should be said and heard. It is titled:
The People Israel VS. 1. Pope Francis, Head of the Catholic Church, the Vatican 2. President of the United States, Mr. Barack Hussein Obama 3. Secretary of State Mr. John Kerry, The White House, Washington, D.C. United States of America 4. UNESCO 7. The Supreme Court of the United States of America 8. The Human Rights Court in The Hague, Netherlands 9. The International Criminal Court in The Hague, Netherlands 10. The European Union Collectively and each individually stand accused of :

Conspiracy to conduct theft of the Land of Israel from the People of Israel

1.The Land of Israel is exclusive patrimony of the People of Israel, as stated in the Tanakh, also known as the Holy Bible, which is considered the foundation and authoritative for of all monotheistic religions. It is an accepted point of fact of history, and considered common knowledge that from the time of Abraham, , the Land of Canaan, and the territory of the 'Seven Nations' is considered the exclusive home and patrimony of and for the People of Israel.

2.This is in fact, an eternal promise, acknowledged by the world, including and as represented by the defendants, from the Creator and Master of the World, the Gd of Israel, Who bequeathed the Land of Israel to the patriarchs Avraham (Abraham), YitsHaq (Isaac) and Ya'aqov (Jacob), and their descendants, His Chosen People, Israel.

3. This promise was acknowledged and fulfilled when the Gd of Israel freed His People from slavery under Pharaoh, and delivered them out of the land of Egypt. The promise was further ratified at Mount Sinai, and in the plains of Moab and through the conquest by Y'hoshua (Joshua) son of Nun. The promise and title to the Land of Israel is eternally valid, and has no expiration.

4. Today there are approximately seven million Jews, descendants and rightful claimants of the patrimony. living in the western portion of the Land of Israel, including the area known as the Golan Heights. This represents the promised in-gathering of the exiles who have and are returning from the four corners of the globe. This return of the Children of Israel is historical proof that the promise's continued validity. In addition, there are approximately half a million self identified Arab residents, who are distant descendants of the seed of Israel, who lost or abandoned their national and religious identification through fear, and coercion from various foreign rulers and occupiers, including but not limited to the Roman, Byzantine, Persian, Arab, Crusader, Mameluke, Ottoman and British occupations.

5. The accused, as individuals and acting in concert have purposefully, intentionally and with malice, both publicly and in secret, have acted to undermine, diminish, repudiate and deny the People Israel's historic, moral and legitimate right to the Land of Israel. It has besmirched the name of Israel in world forums, and perpetuated a campaign of lies and propaganda in order to rob Israel of its birthright.

6. The accused, collectively and individually, have publicly and legally, accorded official recognition to a foreign and hostile entity within the territory of the Land of Israel, and has recognized it as a legitimate state entity. This entity, known as the so-called 'Palestinian Authority' is a foreign body, whose sole reason for existence is the removal of the People Israel from their rightful and legitimate patrimony.

7. The accused, collectively and individually, masquerading their efforts as promoting peace and justice, have in fact, advanced false arguments, lies, slander and defamation in order to obfuscate Israel's rightful claim to the territory known as the Land of Israel. It has falsely accused Israel of being an occupier, of perpetrating war crimes, of enforcing a policy of apartheid and of breaching international laws treaties. All of these claims are false.

8. The accused, collectively and individually, along with their subsidiary organizations, have devoted huge sums of money and resources to establish the false “Palestinian” entity in place of Israel. They have trained its armies and security forces, provided and/or sold this entity weapons and provided weaponry to neighboring peoples of the region with the intent and purpose of pressuring Israel. They have condoned or failed to condemn the mass corruption, theft and financial waste invested in the “Palestinian” entity and neighboring countries, at the expense of the self-identified Arab residence, in order to allow terror organizations known as Fatah, Hamas, and an others to pursue their goal of eliminating eradicate the Jewish presence in the Land of Israel. It is to be recalled that during that period known as the Holocaust, wherein the expressed goal was the eradication of the Jewish People, many of the accused and associate organizations collaborated, assisted, facilitated, or failed to respond to the self same goal of the Nazis, to whit, the elimination of the Jewish People.

9. The accused, collectively and individually, have, in addition to the above, willfully ignored the exclusive national rights of the Jewish People in accordance with international law, as decided by unanimous vote of the members of the League of Nations through the (1920) San Remo Resolution. This resolution recognizes the entirety of the Land of Israel as the National Home of the Jewish People.

10. The accused, collectively and individually, refuse to acknowledge and ignore the fact that the representatives of the so-called 'Palestinians' refused the partition plan known as United Nations Resolution 181. It should be noted that the resolution, having been adopted by the General Assembly, and not the Security Council only has the authority of a recommendation, and therefore, legally, the Land of Israel was left undivided as in the original Mandate of (1920).

However, the refusal by the Arab countries and the Arab occupiers of the Land of Israel to recognize the partition recommendation reflected their genocidal impulse and desire to destroy the Jewish people.

The above is only one part of the document:that can be seen on the Sanhedrin website.

POPE MEETS PRESIDENT OF ISRAEL

Discussions Focused on Political, Social Situation in Middle East

Vatican City, September 03, 2015 (ZENIT.org) Staff Reporter

The Pope and president of Israel believe promoting "a climate of trust" between Israelis and Palestinians is needed and time sensitive. This was conveyed in a communique released by the Holy See Press Office today following Pope Francis' meeting with the president of Israel, Reuven Rivlin, this morning in the Vatican.

The discussions, which the statement described as "cordial," were said to focus on the political and social situation in the Middle East, and gave special attention to the condition of Christians and other minority groups.  Given this, it stated, the importance of interreligious dialogue was recognized, along with "the responsibility of religious leaders in promoting reconciliation and peace."

"The need and urgency of promoting a climate of trust between Israelis and Palestinians was highlighted, alongside the resumption of direct negotiations with the aim of reaching an agreement respecting the legitimate aspirations of the two populations, as a fundamental contribution to peace and stability in the region," it stated.

The statement noted that the parties considered various issues regarding the relations between the State of Israel and the Holy See, and between state authorities and local Catholic communities. It added that they also expressed their hope that the bilateral agreement currently being drafted be concluded promptly, and that an adequate solution be found for various matters of common interest, including the situation of Christian schools in the country.

The Israeli president subsequently met with Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, accompanied by Vatican Secretary for Relations with States, Archbishop Paul Gallagher.  (D.C.L.)

Rome, 11 septembre 2015 (ZENIT.org) Staff Reporter

A.B.

The PLO working with other World Leaders are pushing to send UN soldiers into Jerusalem to protect Palestinians! Palestinian envoy Riyad Mansour told reporters that the situation was "very explosive" and that the Security Council must find ways of "providing protection" to the Palestinians. The current situation, as always was started by The Arabs, and this time murdering Jews daily all across the country. Soon Hezbollah will join in as well as Hamas, this is what tHe Vatican wants so that Israel will be forced to Internationalize Jerusalem so that Rome takes complete control.

Holy See–Israel relations deals with the attitude of the Holy See towards the State of Israel and the diplomatic relations between the two states which were established in 1993 after the adoption of the Fundamental Accord by the two States on 30 December 1993. A Vatican Nunciature in Israel and an Israeli embassy in Rome were established on 19 January 1994. From the Vatican's point of view, the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two states is part of the Christian–Jewish reconciliation; and from the Israeli point of view, the normalisation of diplomatic relations. Prior to the establishment of diplomatic relations, the interests of the Catholic Church in Israel were looked after by the Apostolic Delegate to Jerusalem and Palestine, the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem and the Custodian of the Holy Land, all of which continue to function.

Andrea Cordero Lanza di Montezemolo[1] was appointed as the first Apostolic Nuncio to Israel, Shmuel Hadas was appointed first Israeli Ambassador to the Holy See, in September of that year. The present Nuncio to Israel is Giuseppe Lazzarotto, who was appointed on 20 August 2012. He follows Antonio Franco, who was appointed in 2006, Pietro Sambi, who was appointed in 1998, and the first Nuncio to Israel, Andrea Cordero Lanza di Montezemolo.

The present Israeli Ambassador to the Holy See is Zion Evrony (de), who was appointed on 31 July 2012. He follows Mordechay Lewy,[2] who was appointed in May 2008, Oded Ben-Hur (from June 2003), Yosef Neville Lamdan (from September 2000), Aharon Lopez (from April 1997), and Shmuel Hadas (from September 1994).

POPE REAFFIRMS ANTI-ZIONISM IS A FORM OF ANTI-SEMITISM

Oct 29, 2015

Pope Francis reaffirmed Israel’s right to exist at a meeting with Jewish leaders held on the 50th anniversary of Nostra Aetate, a church document which put an end to the Catholic charge of Jewish deicide.

Pope Francis. (AP/Gregorio Borgia)

Anti-Zionism is a form of anti-Semitism, Pope Francis stated at a meeting with Jewish community leaders. The meeting was held in honor of the 50th anniversary of Nostra Aetate, a Catholic Church document that declared the Jews are not responsible for the death of Jesus.

“To attack Jews is anti-Semitism, but an outright attack on the State of Israel is also anti-Semitism,” the Pope told a World Jewish Congress (WJC) delegation. “There may be political disagreements between governments and on political issues, but the State of Israel has every right to exist in safety and prosperity.” = Yeah, that's why you use palestiniens to destroy them with King of Jordania (Interfaith religion) !

NETANYAHU : DON’T WORRY, THERE WILL BE PEACE ‘EVENTUALLY In lengthy speech to visiting young German leaders, PM says that Arabs lived in Palestine 100 years ago, ‘but not many’
By Raphael Ahren December 3, 2015, 10:54 pm

http://www.timesofisrael.com/netanyahu-dont-worry-there-will-be-peace-event…

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu meets with a delegation of young leaders from Germany at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, December 3, 2015 (Kobi Gideon/GPO)

Raphael Ahren Raphael Ahren is the diplomatic correspondent at The Times of Israel.

Israelis and Palestinians will “eventually” make peace, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Thursday, indicating that true reconciliation first requires profound changes within the Palestinian people, including a new leader.
“Don’t give up hope. Eventually there will be, I believe, a Palestinian leadership that will emerge and will embrace a genuine peace,” he told a group of young German leaders visiting Israel. “Not a false peace. Not a tactical peace, but a genuine peace.”

Netanyahu did not say when he expected that moment to arrive, though he did not appear hopeful for a peace deal in the near future. He blamed Palestinian refusal to recognize a Jewish state “in any boundaries” for the ongoing conflict, explaining that such recognition is his key condition for any peace deal. “We want to know that we have a partner that accepts our right to exist,” he said.

It was unclear whether the Palestinians would ever recognize Israel as the nation-state of the Jewish people, he said, “but the day it [happens], then we’ll have peace. We’ll have the real breakthrough to peace.”

Until that moment, Israelis will continue building their state, the prime minister said. “We will build our creativity, our economy, our culture, our television programs — every realm of human creativity. And forge those links with those Arab states who want to see the defeat of medievalism and the triumph of modernity, and get everyone else to join in this common effort because the future of our world, not just the future of Israel, the future of your world, depends on our success.”

Netanyahu was addressing a group of 200 young Germans leaders who had never previously been Israel and were invited by the Foreign Ministry on a trip aimed to deepen bilateral ties. The prime minister spoke for almost an hour, talking about Israel’s achievements in the world of technology and science and explaining in great detail his view of the turmoil rocking the Middle East and of Jewish history.

The current wave of Islamic terrorism terrorizing Western liberal democracies is not a clash of civilizations, but a “clash against civilization,” Netanyahu said.

Addressing the German leaders directly, he continued, “We’re merely a gateway to you, we’re just closer to them. If we weren’t here they would move faster,” he said about Islamist terrorists. “If we weren’t here, they would probably disrupt our Arab neighbors who are fighting against this same extremism and increasingly see Israel not as their enemy but as their ally.”

Netanyahu said that while he places Israel firmly in the camp of modern states, he does not want to marginalize the Jewish people’s Biblical attachment to this land. “We were here not a long time ago, only 4,000 years,” he said dryly, dismissing the notion of Israel as an unrooted colonial intruder. “We’re not Belgians in the Congo. Nor are we the French in Algeria or for that matter the Spaniards in Mexico. We’ve been around here a long time. And we recognize that there is another people here, even though they came thousands of years later. They still live here and we have to coexist.”

Recounting the early days of the Zionist movement, Netanyahu said that not many people lived in Palestine at the time. In the middle of the 19th century, the country “was largely depopulated,” he declared. “There were Arabs but there were not many. In the 19th century, this country was a backwater of the Ottoman Empire.”

Netanyahu recounted that his great-grandfather arrived in Palestine in the late 19th century and his grandfather in 1920.

The arriving Jews “caused immigration” to Palestine by Arabs from neighboring countries, he continued, “because there were farms and schools and health clinics and factories.”

In 1922, there were 590,890 Muslims in British Mandate Palestine, compared to 83,794 Jews. By 1945, the numbers had grown to 1,061,270 Muslims and 553,600 Jews.

ORTHODOX RABBIS BRING JESUS HOME FOR CHRISTMAS

Thursday, December 24, 2015 |  David Lazarus

More than 25 prominent rabbis from Israel and abroad recently issued a statement calling for a renewed look at Jesus, Christians and the New Testament faith. Quoting from their own sages, these outstanding  Orthodox rabbis are not ashamed to exalt the name of Jesus, welcoming the carpenter from Nazareth back into the Jewish fold.

“Jesus brought a double goodness to the world,” declare the group of well-known rabbis.  “On the one hand he strengthened the Torah of Moses majestically…  and not one of our Sages spoke out more emphatically concerning the immutability of the Torah,” and on the other hand “he removed idols from the nations.”

Saying that Jesus, even more that any other Jewish Sage, honored, strengthened and protected the “immutability of the Torah,” is an extraordinary acknowledgement. These leading rabbis are turning the tides of history by removing one of the main stumbling blocks in the path of a major Jewish reclamation of Jesus!

You will recall, that religious Jews rejected Jesus from the beginning, with the accusation that he did not obey the Torah, therefore he could not be the awaited Messiah. In the New Testament, we find the Pharisees arguing with Jesus over Sabbath rules, dietary laws, ritual cleanliness, marriage regulations and more. They insisted that Jesus cannot be the Messiah because “he is teaching everywhere not to obey Moses.” (Acts 6:14)

-----

And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.

Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen.

10 And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.

11 Then they suborned men, which said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God.

12 And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and caught him, and brought him to the council,

13 And set up false witnesses, which said, This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law:

14 For we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moses delivered us.

15 And all that sat in the council, looking stedfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.
Acts 6:7-15

-----

What we are now witnessing is the undoing of 2,000 years of Jewish rejection and animosity towards Jesus, a miracle by any estimation. For the out-and-out refusal by Jews to accept Jesus is slowly, but surely, coming to an end, as growing numbers of prestigious Orthodox rabbis welcome Jesus back.

And there is more. “After nearly two millennia of mutual hostility and alienation, we Orthodox Rabbis who lead communities, institutions and seminaries in Israel, the United States and Europe… seek to do the will of our Father in Heaven by accepting the hand offered to us by our Christian brothers and sisters,” the statement reads.

Two thousand years of Christian Anti-Semitism, Crusades, Inquisitions and a Holocaust can not keep the Star of Bethlehem from rising again in Israel. This call by these distinguished rabbis to embrace Christians as “brothers and sisters” is no less a miracle. For Jews to accept Christians with such endearment, after so much misunderstanding and anti-Semitic ugliness, can only be understood as a divine work of heavenly grace, the likes of which I find unfathomable.

For as this group of Orthodox rabbis points out, it is their “Father in Heaven” who is calling the Jewish people to lay down the past, put aside the enmity, and willingly embrace Christians and their faith in Jesus. That, my friends, is the deeper work of the Holy Spirit as spoken about throughout Scripture. = not the Jesus of the Bible, the coming gnostic Jesus.

As Rabbi Dr. Eugene Korn, Academic Director of the Center for Jewish-Christian Understanding & Cooperation points out, “This proclamation’s breakthrough is that influential Orthodox rabbis across all centers of Jewish life have finally acknowledged that…  Christianity and Judaism have much in common spiritually and practically. Given our toxic history, this is unprecedented in Orthodoxy.”

In their statement, the rabbis want to find a way to acknowledge the differences between Christian and Jewish beliefs, without taking, or giving, offense. As did Maimonides and Yehudah Halevi, we acknowledge that Christianity is neither an accident nor an error, but the willed divine outcome and gift to the nations.

In separating Judaism and Christianity, G-d willed a separation between partners with significant theological differences, not a separation between enemies,”
the statement concludes.

These so-called “significant theological differences” between Christianity and Judaism are really about Jesus. He is the stumbling block. Jesus may be Messiah, Son of the Living God for the Gentiles, but my Jewish people are still not quite sure just who he is for them. So while these rabbis are making major and unprecedented strides in bringing my people closer to Jesus, they are still far from the truth. For if Jesus is the Messiah for the Gentiles, how much more must he be for the Jews?

Perhaps Jesus will not quite be at home this Christmas in Israel, or Jewish homes around the world, but he is certainly knocking on the door.

ROMES AGENDA FOR A ONE WORLD RELIGION

VIDEO : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-xKXvQN3ONA

Rome has very carefully for the last minia been reconciling with all the religious leaders of Islam Christianity and the Jews. This reconciliation keeps them at the head of the One World Religious Movement. Here in 2015 Many Rabbis have signed on to a reconciliation document of their own accepting the Vatican into the fold of Israel. But most don't know that this has been planned and coordinated for years.

HISTORIC COVENANT BETWEEN ISRAEL'S RABBIS AND THE POPE OF ROME

VIDEO : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kq5e4zsgkUU

1 "In the eighth month, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the Lord unto Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo the prophet, saying,
The Lord hath been sore displeased with your fathers.
Therefore say thou unto them, Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Turn ye unto me, saith the Lord of hosts, and I will turn unto you, saith the Lord of hosts.
Be ye not as your fathers, unto whom the former prophets have cried, saying, Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Turn ye now from your evil ways, and from your evil doings: but they did not hear, nor hearken unto me, saith the Lord.
Your fathers, where are they? and the prophets, do they live for ever?
But my words and my statutes, which I commanded my servants the prophets, did they not take hold of your fathers? and they returned and said, Like as the Lord of hosts thought to do unto us, according to our ways, and according to our doings, so hath he dealt with us".
Zachariah 1:1-7

VATICAN FULLY RECOGNIZES PALESTINE STATE AS LANDMARK TREATY ENTERS FORCE

A treaty facilitating relationships between Vatican and Palestine – referred to as a “state” in the text – has entered full force, sealing de-facto recognition of Palestinian statehood by the Holy See.

TrendsPalestinian statehood

The Vatican announced Saturday that its “Comprehensive Agreement” with the “State of Palestinesigned in June 2015 has come into full force, in which the Holy See bolstered support for the two-state solution of the long-standing Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Referring to Palestine as “state” means Vatican has recognized it as an equal partner, thus sealing support for 2012 UN General Assembly resolution granting Palestine a non-member observer status.

“The Holy See and the State of Palestine have notified each other that the procedural requirements for its [the agreement’s] entry into force have been fulfilled, under the terms of Article 30 of the same Agreement,” the Holy See’s said in a statement on Saturday.

The historic 2015 treaty is to secure rights and privileges of the Catholic Church on Palestinian territories in exchange for brokering two-state solution as well as giving more weight to Palestine’s political stance in the world.

It also said to include safeguarding the holy sites in Palestine, equally important for all three Abrahamic religions. In April 2014, a Catholic monastery was vandalized not far from Jerusalem in a hate crime carried out by Israelis. Slogans condemning peace talks with Palestine as well as graffiti disparaging Jesus and Mary were also frequent there recently.

While the entire text is unavailable, the treaty may recognize the 1967 borders as those constituting the Palestinian state, as the two-state solution implies creation of the Palestinian state on territories occupied by Israel during the Six Days War.

Pope Francis is known for calling the Israeli-Palestinian talks to be resumed, though Vatican has provided no detailed political roadmap for reconciliation. In May 2014, Francis visited Bethlehem where he gave a public speech outlining both Israel’s and Palestine’s right to exist. He praised Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas as a “man of peace,” laying the groundwork for the bilateral treaty.

In the same speech, Francis proposed a common prayer of Christians, Muslims and Jews, which took place in June 2014 and was attended by Palestinian President Abbas, Israel’s former prime minister Shimon Peres as well as the pope himself, asking “for peace for the Holy Land and for all who dwell there.”

VATICAN ENTERS LEAGUE WITH ISRAEL'S RABBIS!

January 6, 2016 by Steven DeNoon Leave a Comment

Israeli News Live:
January 2, 2016;
Steven Ben-Nun (De-Noon);
Vatican Enters League With Israel’s Rabbis!

Steven Ben-Nun: Erev Tov Chaverim; I’m Steven Ben-Nun you are watching Israeli News Live. (http://www.onenewspage.com/video/20160102/3748834/Bahrain-Protests-erupt-after-Shia-cleric-Sheikh-Nimr.htm); and violence is breaking out in Iran at the Saudi Arabia embassy in response to the assassin or not assassination but the death penalty that was handed down and carried out by the Saudi Kingdom against the Shiite Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr; he was killed and it has caused backlash all over the Middle East the Region’s there. The Iranians have condemned that even the United States has condemned the killing of this particular Shiite Sheikh. And you cannot help but wonder is this something that is being done by the Saudi Kingdom intentionally? Do they want to go to war in the Middle East with other Arabic neighbors especially in the case of Iran? Iran a very powerful nation we know the Saudi Kingdom has United States holding its back just like Turkey does. But there again these two are enemies as well as Iran is against Turkey as well, a very serious issue there.

(http://cjcuc.com/site/2015/12/03/orthodox-rabbinic-statement-on-christianity/); and by the way we’re going to look at a couple of more major headlines that are going on before we go to our main particular news story this evening that where we’re speaking about Vatican Enters a League with Israeli Rabbis that is very serious breaking headline something that are you happen but God has just revealed to us where this isn’t Biblical prophecy.
So we’ll be going to this Biblical prophecy, this historic Biblical prophecy in the Book of Daniel that is being fulfilled as we speak and what the ramifications are going to happen next what will happen in Israel next as well.

(http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/205825#.VoriMFkqaHQ); but before we do that we need to look at some of these major headlines and were breaking as we got ready to go on air. Another serious thing in Israel Hamas of course ISIS supporters of ISIS are claiming to send rockets over into Israel from the Gaza side. And yet Israel has retaliated for these rockets were fired into Southern Israel I believe there were 5 rockets fired Israel responded by bombing 2 empty buildings according to the Hamas officials and claiming that they will hold Hamas responsible for any rockets that fall into Israel’s land.

Now keep in mind we have mentioned before that once rockets start coming out of Gaza it won’t be long before Hezbollah will attack Israel from the north. Now this just may be a first trial for Israel to see exactly how well Israel’s gonna hold and what Israel’s response is going to be. But you can count on one thing you will see an increased activity in the Intifada against Israeli civilians are from the Palestinian terrorists is well as Hamas will attack from rockets from Gaza and Hezbollah will attack from the north. This is what Israel no doubt is about to come under this type of fire in the very near coming days more than likely I’ll be surprised if it doesn’t happen I might say.
(http://www.reuters.com/article/russia-security-strategy-idUSKBN0UG09Q20160102);
another very serious news broadcast here and this is; Putin Names the United States among threats and new Russian security strategy for their rise. Very sad to say indeed but we can understand why did the President of Russia is feeling this way because naturally we know that the US has mounted all kinds of heavy weapons around the borders of Russia. Everywhere the United States can they have also moved in nuclear arms and warheads into Eastern Europe as well. And they claim they’re not directed at Russia but Russia’s not stupid either.

Anyway; it says; a new appraisal names United States as one of the threats to Russian National Security for the first time a sign of how relations with the West had deteriorated in recent years. The document about the strategy of “About the Strategy of National Security of Russian Federation,” was signed by President Vladimir Putin on New Year’s Eve. It replaces a 2009 version, endorsed by then- President Dmitry Medvedev, the current prime minister, which mentioned neither the United States not NATO.

It says Russia has managed to heighten its role in solving global problems and international conflicts. That heightened role has caused a reaction by the West, it says. “The strengthening of Russia happens against the background of new threats to the national security, which has complex and interrelated nature,” the document says. Conducting an independent policy, “both international and domestic” has caused “counteraction from the USA and its allies, which are striving to retain their dominance in global affairs;” very serious news indeed; coming out Israel, out of Iran, out of the Middle East there and out of Russia as well.

(http://cjcuc.com/site/2015/12/03/orthodox-rabbinic-statement-on-christianity/); moving on though the main purpose of our broadcast this evening is; Vatican Rabbinical League. Now in the covenant that was signed and I call this part a covenant because if we go down to the document that the Jewish Rabbis have just signed recently in the 7th section here they mention the word covenant. Right here dedicated to the covenant is what they say you can see that on your screen there. It says; in imitating G-d, Jews and Christians must offer models of service, unconditional love and holiness. We are all created in G-d’s Holy Image, and Jews and Christians will remain dedicated to the Covenant by playing an active role together in redeeming the world. Now they’re terminology used here is the word covenant and many people are automatically gonna go to Daniel.
They’re going to look at the covenant Daniel Chapter 9 verse 27 it speaks about the covenant make for one week and Daniel’s 70 weeks. And also in Daniel Chapter 11 it speaks about the Holy Covenant. Now my only concern in that regard is that the Holy Covenant would have to be something God establishes if it’s holy and in the Hebrew language it does speak of a Holy Covenant. But in this particular case here what we’re looking at; I don’t think we’re looking at a 7 year covenant that is spoken of Daniel 9:27 but rather we are seeing a Biblical prophecy being fulfilled by the Vatican and the Rabbinical Rabbis that are involved these are Global Rabbis. All of these Rabbis by the way are very Pro-Palestinian and very Pro Two State and we’re gonna mention that in just a moment here from the World Jewish Congress what they have said in their own statement there.

Let’s look at Daniel Chapter 11 and we’re gonna look at specifically 4 verses because these are the verses where we’re gonna see prophecy that is unfolding. Part of this has already happened when it says verse 20; they shall stand up in his estate a raiser of taxes in the glory of the kingdom but within a few days he shall be destroyed another and anger nor in battle. I do believe that that was Pope Benedict he was very much a champion for causing the world’s governments to rein in all the tax dodgers there were out there that had been hiding their money in offshore accounts. And he got the United States and many other governments especially the European Union to go after these billionaires and millionaires and brought in a lot of tax revenue. But then suddenly Pope Benedict seemingly needs to retire and we know that Pope Francis is also talking about that he may retire as well this year. If he does I can only imagine who the next man will be but nonetheless it will not change one thing about the Anti-Christ System that John speaks about.

In John the 1st Book of John there where he says; they went out of us because they were not of us or they went out from us because they were not us. It clearly defined that the Anti-Christ must be a believer or professed believer in Yeshua, in Jesus that is. But they go out from us because they are not if us they do not believe in the Holy Covenant of God is what it is. Anyway going on into this let’s take a look at what it says here verse 21; any in his estate shall stand up a vile person; in his estate it’s interesting because he’s not destroyed neither in anger nor in battle. And Pope Benedict technically is still a Pope of Rome so Pope Francis is serving Pope Benedict’s own reign right now.

Is says in here and in his estate, in his place see? Shall stand up a vile person, he appears to be a non-vile person. But very much on the inside there’s a different story. To whom they shall not give the honor of the kingdom but he show come in peaceably and obtain the kingdom by flatteries. Doesn’t that seem exactly like the type of man we’re seeing today in the Vatican? (Verse 22); and with the arms of a flood shall they be overflown from before him and he shall be broken and also the prince of the covenant. (Verse 23); and after the league made with him he shall work deceitfully for he shall come up and shall become strong with a small people. That’s where he comes up with the Palestinian’s that’s what he does after the league is made with him. (Verse 24); He shall enter peaceably even upon the fattest places of the province and he shall do that which his fathers have not done nor his father’s fathers he shall scatter among them the prey and spoiled and riches. Yea and he shall forecast his devices against the strongholds even for a time. Now what is it about the spoil, the prey and the riches? Well he actually restored to Israel back those covenant items from the 2nd Temple Period I’m not sure exactly what his plans are but he is going to take and scatter among them the prey and the spoil and the riches.

This is also the dividing of the Land, the Two State Solution which what this covenant, this league in other words is being made with the Rabbis and with Rome is being done here. This is exactly what they’re intentions are.

(http://www.worldjewishcongress.org/en/news/attacks-on-jews-are-anti-semitism-as-are-attacks-on-israel-pope-francis-tells-jewish-leader-10-3-2015); let’s take a look at that real quick like just to share with you. This is on October the 28th Attacks on Jews are Anti-Semitism as are attacks on Israel Pope Francis tells the Jewish Leaders. This was when the leaders of the world Jewish Congress on Wednesday issued a strong condemnation of anti-Semitism in a private audience with World Jewish Congress President Ronald S Louder in the morning. The Pontiff made it clear outright attacks against Israel’s existence as a form of anti-Semitism and you can see here the meeting he has here with the different Jewish Congress members that are here in the meeting here. But notice what it says here in yellow; Jews and Catholics today marked the Anniversary of 1965 Declaration of Nostra Aetate this is what they were doing there they were looking at this document that the Vatican signed 50 years ago and now the Jewish Congress is willing to do the same. They’re willing to sign and join in with this league and by the way a league is a fellowship, it is a coming together that is exactly what the league is. If you look at this and the Hebraic language this League is a fellowship, a coming together of the minds there. Notice what it says here in the article here in the bold here; Louder praised the Pope for this powerful message and said; relations between the two faiths were stronger than they had ever been before. The World Jewish Congress President added; Pope Francis does not simply make declaration he inspires people with his warmth and his compassion, his clear and unequivocal support for the Jewish people is critical to us.

Moving on down in the article another bolded area here; enemies and strangers have become friends and brothers a council with the declaration of Nostra Aetate paved the way it said; yes to the rediscovery of the Jewish roots of Christianity and no to any form of anti-Semitism and condemnation of any insult discrimination persecution derived from that.

Now here’s the important part right here in the highlighted yellow; the Governing board reaffirmed its continued support of a Two-State Solution and urged Israel and the Palestinian Authority to resume peace talks without preconditions as soon as possible. The board also called on the International Community to maintain and if necessary expand sanctions on Iran until there is a verification of International acceptance of Iran’s caught compliance with the conditions of the nuclear deal. What just happened? The United States placed sanctions back on Iran. You don’t tell me the Pope of Rome doesn’t have some power! And the only reason the Pope of Rome ordered the United States to put the sanctions on Iran is because he got the Jews to agree with him in a league together to make a Covenant if you were to say it like that.

And so therefore the Pope is throwing his weight now forcing the United States to put these sanctions on Iran and Iran in retaliation in a news article today said; that they are now making 500 kilometer long range missiles in response to the US’ sanctions. And the funny thing is this month at the end of the month President Rouhani of Iran is supposed to go to the Vatican to meet the Pope of Rome. And does he not know who’s the one that put the sanctions on him it’s not the US it’s the Pope of Rome but he’s a puppet like all the rest of them. Anyway; by the way I thought it’s kind of interesting who was actually on the governing body of the Chairman of the World Jewish Council it is David D. Rothschild. I know a lot of people that are against the Jewish people speak about the Rothschild’s and their billions that they have that help put together the Jewish State.

But remember even though they had that part in there it doesn’t mean that God hasn’t brought home his faithful that love Him that things will work out with. Going back real quick guys let’s look back at the scriptural part of this. Notice what it says and Daniel 11:23; and after the league made with him; right a league had to be formed, a fellowship had to be made between the Vatican which is the prince that shall come. And we know this by Daniel Chapter 9 we find out that the princes shall come would be out the people who destroyed the Temple and the Sanctuary which was the Romans. The Roman’s under the Roman General Titus came and destroyed the Temple and the Sanctuary that’s how we know. We also know about the Book of Obadiah it describes Esau to the destruction of the Temple and the Sanctuary; and said; that he stood aloof. So it wasn’t just him alone it was the Assyrian’s involved in this battle as well but we do know that the Romans are the ones that God has held responsible for being the ones that destroyed the Temple and the Sanctuary. He holds Titus that guilty one there. But in the day that we’re living in now he said; that there would be a prince it would come. There would be of these Roman’s that’s the Pope of Rome right here he’s the guy that enters into this league with the people of Israel.

And then he will come up strong with us small people. Doesn’t say anything about the Jewish people that’s the Palestinians because he makes a league with these Rabbis here from the Jewish Congress that gives him that foothold to get into Israel. And then he uses the Palestinians for the extra leverage once the Jewish Congress has made sure that this Two State comes into full power and now the whole thing is playing out. You are watching Bible prophecy come to pass it yet again and I’m praying friends to understand more and more and more about this scriptural passages here in Daniel Chapter 11. It doesn’t play out like some people think it does it really doesn’t.

You’re going to find out even in here the Two Witnesses can be seen you can see the Two Witnesses right here in Daniel’s final prophesies, Chapters 9, 10, 11 and 12 there. They’re there they are the ones that will reveal what Daniel’s prophecy is all about. My gosh it is exciting times we’re living in the world is in chaos and now at the beginning of 2016 we are seeing a heightened sense of urgency all over the world, Middle East, wars about to erupt the United States, Russia at odds with one another as well. And at the same time the Pope making his league with the Rabbis there and is about to come in and take over that Land and he’s doing it nothing with a bunch of flatteries there. You would be amazed and surprised if you went back and looked at the things that have been happening between these Rabbis and the Vatican for the last 10, 15, 20 years they’ve been working on this for a long time. Now you have the league, the league has been made; both sides have signed it Nostra Aetate was already signed by the Vatican 50 years ago. Now the Jewish Congress has signed their side of the deal it is done the league has been made between Rome and Israel. I’m Stephen you’re watching Israeli News Live your Prophetic Segment, God bless you and shalom.

‘ATTACKS ON JEWS ARE ANTI-SEMITISM, AS ARE ATTACKS ON ISRAEL,' POPE FRANCIS TELLS JEWISH LEADER

Wed, 28 Oct 2015

Pope Francis welcomed over a hundred leaders of the World Jewish Congress (WJC) on Wednesday and issued a strong condemnation of anti-Semitism. At a private audience with WJC President Ronald S. Lauder in the morning, the pontiff made it clear that outright attacks against Israel’s existence is a form of anti-Semitism.

“To attack Jews is anti-Semitism, but an outright attack on the State of Israel is also anti-Semitism. There may be political disagreements between governments and on political issues, but the State of Israel has every right to exist in safety and prosperity,” Pope Francis told Lauder and his delegation.

Jews and Catholics today marked the anniversary of the 1965 declaration Nostra Aetate, which condemned anti-Semitism and completely transformed and improved relations between Jews and Catholics.

Lauder praised the Pope for this powerful message and said relations between the two faiths were stronger than they had ever been before. The WJC president added: “Pope Francis does not simply make declarations. He inspires people with his warmth and his compassion. His clear and unequivocal support for the Jewish people is critical to us.”

Nearly 150 delegates and observers from the World Jewish Congress Governing Board took part in the public audience with the Pope in St. Peter’s Square on Wednesday. The delegates were in Rome for the Board’s annual meeting.

Recalling Nostra Aetate, a declaration adopted on 28 October 1965 by the Second Vatican Council, Pope Francis told the crowd in the square: “Indifference and opposition were transformed into cooperation and benevolence. Enemies and strangers have become friends and brothers. The Council, with the declaration Nostra Aetate, paved the way. It said yes to the rediscovery of the Jewish roots of Christianity, and no to any form of anti-Semitism and condemnation of any insult, discrimination and persecution derived from that.”

On Tuesday, the WJC Governing Board, representing over 100 Jewish communities around the world, held discussions which focused on the implications facing Jewish communities in light of the various conflicts in the Middle East, including the threat of jihadist terrorism.

The Governing Board reaffirmed its continued support of a two State solution and urged Israel and the Palestinian Authority to resume peace talks without preconditions as soon as possible.

The Board also called on the international community to maintain and, if necessary, expand sanctions on Iran until there is verification and international acceptance of Iran’s compliance with all the conditions of the nuclear deal.

Concerning the refugee crisis, the delegates passed a resolution calling on the international community to provide refugees with sanctuary irrespective of origin or religion, recalling the Talmudic maxim that says “He who saves a single life saves the whole world.”

VATICAN II AT 50

Assessing the impact of ‘Nostra Aetate’ on Jewish-Christian relations

By David Berger
December 15, 2015

I

On Oct. 28, 1965, Pope Paul VI officially issued a brief “Declaration on the Relation of the Church to non-Christian Religions” titled “Nostra Aetate, whose fourth section deals with Judaism. Terms like “historic,” “turning point,” and the like are often overused, but this is one of the rare instances where they are appropriate. The current commemorations celebrating the 50th anniversary of the document mark a genuinely significant moment.

“Nostra Aetate” was adopted by a large majority at the Second Vatican Council after a lengthy, complex, and contentious process that cannot detain us here. What is of great relevance is the historical setting in which it was produced, the specifically Jewish dimension of which was the Holocaust. The moral introspection generated by that catastrophe was further stimulated by the campaign of some Jewish intellectuals, notably Jules Isaac, who urged the Church to undo the “teaching of contempt” that had characterized its approach to Jews through the ages. However, exclusive attention to this dimension obscures the larger forces transforming the moral and intellectual landscape of the 1960s. The egalitarian impulse that produced the civil rights movement in the United States and de-colonization worldwide did not sit well with traditions of religious exclusivism and triumphalism, let alone the condemnation of the other to discrimination and damnation.

What, then, does “Nostra Aetate” #4 say? The most focused, concrete, and revolutionary assertion was that only those 1st-century Jews directly involved bore responsibility for the Crucifixion. Contemporary Jews are entirely without guilt. Beyond this, the document, invoking a classic but historically underemphasized passage in Romans chapters 9-11, asserts that Jews and Judaism are the root of Christianity and that the gifts of God, in this case the divine election of Israel, are not revoked. At the same time, it affirms that the Church awaits the day when “all people will address the Lord in a single voice and ‘serve him shoulder to shoulder.’ ” It “decries hatred, persecutions, displays of anti-Semitism, directed against Jews at any time and by anyone” and calls for “fraternal dialogues.”

This month, in connection with the jubilee of “Nostra Aetate,” 25 Orthodox rabbis issued a statement on Christianity.

Jewish reactions were for the most part highly favorable, though various objections were raised that strike me as expressions of hypersensitivity. Thus, the document should have “condemned” anti-Semitism rather than merely “decrying” it; the final version should have retained the term “deicide” in characterizing the offense for which the Jews bear no guilt. Orthodox concerns, as we shall see, were more substantive; at the same time, a substantial number of Orthodox Jews tended to evince a generally dismissive reaction that was also present to a lesser degree in the larger community. The declaration was seen as too little, too late, and the notion that Jews were being exonerated for crucifying Jesus was seen as at least marginally insulting. Thus, some Jews whose long-standing bill of particulars against the Church featured the guilt that it assigned to the Jewish people for the Crucifixion nonetheless dismissed the historic revocation of this theology as an event that should have no consequences for their own resentful stance.

To implement the new relationship, the Church established a Commission for Religious Relations with the Jews, which issued its first official document (“Guidelines and Suggestions for Implementing the Conciliar Declaration Nostra Aetate (No.4)”) in 1974. In 1985, it issued “Notes on the Correct Way to Present the Jews and Judaism in Preaching and Catechesis in the Roman Catholic Church.” And in 1998, it issued a document on the Holocaust titled “We Remember.” Despite occasional formulations that some Jews, rightly or wrongly, found inadequate or objectionable, these documents fleshed out “Nostra Aetate” in a direction that reflected advances achieved by ongoing dialogues and even dealt with some of the specific concerns that Jews had expressed regarding the original declaration.

II

Before proceeding to matters of greater substance and complexity, we need to ask how much of an impact these changes have exerted on ordinary Catholics and the Christian populace as a whole. With respect to what I characterized as the most focused and concrete issue addressed by “Nostra Aetate,” we have a fairly extensive survey carried out by the Anti-Defamation League in 2012. Its objective was to measure attitudes toward Jews in 10 European countries (not including the former Soviet Union), and it asked respondents whether they thought a series of affirmations were probably true. The fifth and final of these was: “The Jews are responsible for the death of Jesus.” (Note the present tense verb.) The average of those responding “probably true” was 22 percent, ranging from 14 percent in France and Germany to 46 percent in Poland. The percentage in Spain was only 21 percent. Since we can be certain that these numbers would have been far higher two generations ago, it almost certainly follows that even allowing for the impact of European secularization, at least a significant part of the decline can be attributed to the effect of “Nostra Aetate” and the teachings that it inspired. Nonetheless, the Polish result speaks volumes for the educational work that remains to be done.

I am unaware of any relevant survey results in the United States. One proclamation by a Catholic lay leader during the controversy over Mel Gibson’s film on the Passion points in a strikingly positive direction, though another, more official Catholic response reveals the limitations of formal Church guidelines. In an article about the film in Commentary, I noted that William Donohue, a traditional Catholic who heads the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, described The Passion of the Christ in an open letter to the Jewish community as “magnificent beyond words” and, in an effort to allay Jewish concerns, added that “anyone who subscribes to the notion of collective guilt or who believes that today’s Jews are responsible for the behavior of some Jews 2,000 years ago, is demented.” Whatever reservations one may have about Donohue’s characterization of the film, and whatever his motives for dismissing its potential for engendering anti-Semitism, his effective if unintended assertion that his own immediate ancestors as well as untold generations of Christians were demented is evidence that a deep and welcome change has been effected in the psyche of mainstream American Catholics.

If Donohue were challenged on this point, he might very well assert, as many traditional Catholics do, that the exoneration of the Jews in “Nostra Aetate” is nothing new, that Church doctrine properly understood had always ascribed guilt for the Crucifixion to sinful humanity as a whole. There is no reason for Jews to challenge this in the context of friendly dialogue, although the element of truth that it contains cannot obscure the fact that the primary blame—with all its terrible consequences—was nonetheless widely assigned to the Jews.

The Office of Film and Broadcasting of the United States Council of Catholic Bishops, without even a passing reference to an earlier document issued by the USCCB titled “Criteria for the Evaluation of Dramatizations of the Passion,” issued a largely positive review of Gibson’s film even though it violates virtually every element in that document. Those criteria represented a concerted effort to apply a key affirmation of “Nostra Aetate”; the review demonstrates how ineffective well-meaning guidelines can be when they are thrown into the maelstrom of intense communal passion and controversy.

III

In “Nostra Aetate” itself, and much more so in subsequent Church documents and papal utterances, the abiding value of Judaism has been affirmed and even emphasized. In theological language, the covenant between God and the original Israel remains in effect. What precisely that covenant is—the Abrahamic and/or the Mosaic—is not quite settled, and some Jews have virtually demanded that Christians declare that the Mosaic covenant remains in full force. I have argued that this demand is unwise. It raises intractable questions about the parameters of the Jewish need to observe that covenant and constitutes a telling example of the inappropriate dictation to others of what their own religion must teach.

This is far from the only instance in which Jews must evaluate the proper parameters of such intervention. Jews active in interfaith affairs have not infrequently denounced the Christian belief that the entire world will recognize Jesus as the divine messiah at the end of days. This, in my view, is none of our business, especially in light of the corresponding Jewish belief strikingly expressed in the High Holiday liturgy and the Aleinu prayer. Many Jews welcome the views of Christian scholars and theologians who maintain that certain anti-Jewish narratives in the Gospels are unhistorical, but we have no right to urge more fundamentalist Christians to reject the accuracy of their scriptures.

Sometimes, however, even a non-interventionist can be given pause. Passion plays clearly endorsing the cries of the mob that “his blood be on us and on our children” are not simply reporting the account in Matthew; they are rendering a theological judgment about the validity of that declaration that is not required even by a fundamentalist reading. Given the dangers that inhere in such scenes, we have the right and duty to object.

The most interesting phenomenon that challenges the convictions of a non-interventionist is Christian missionizing, which brings us back to the covenant. Catholic theologians friendly to the Jews have struggled with the implications of the unbroken Abrahamic/Mosaic covenant. This unbroken covenant sits uneasily with the doctrine of the contemporary Church that although those who consciously reject belief in Jesus can under certain circumstances be saved, the vehicle of salvation—even for Jews—is Jesus acting through the Church. In some sense, we are told, there is an implicit belief at work. Moreover, despite the enduring Jewish covenant, Christians are obligated to “witness” to the Jews even though they should not directly proselytize.

It should not be our concern to help resolve these conundrums in Catholic theology, and I am all the more grateful that leading theologians firmly oppose mission to the Jews even though their rationale for this position leaves them with unresolved “mysteries.” However, in relating to Christian groups who do proselytize, it is, I think, legitimate for Jews to make every effort to persuade them to desist despite the fact that this constitutes interference in their internal theology. In this case, the imperative of self-defense is so direct that it overrides countervailing principles.

It is all the more evident that missionizing intent cannot be tolerated in the context of interfaith dialogue. As recently as 2009, the U.S. National Council of Catholic Bishops issued a statement containing an affirmation that shocked their Jewish dialogue partners: “Though Christian participation in inter-religious dialogue would not normally include an explicit invitation to baptism and entrance into the Church, the Christian dialogue partner is always giving witness to the following of Christ to which all are implicitly invited.” From its inception in 1998, I have participated in a dialogue between the NCCB and a joint delegation of the Rabbinical Council of America (RCA) and the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America (O.U.). In response to this statement, I wrote to the NCCB delegation on behalf of our group. The letter affirmed inter alia that “this assertion that the Christian partner enters the dialogue with Jews with the intention of extending an implicit invitation to join the Church strikes at the very heart of the dialogical enterprise and undermines the most basic understanding that makes that enterprise possible.” (In a private letter to a Jew, I proposed a riddle: “Provide a case where an explicit proclamation that X is X renders it something other than X. Answer: When an implicit invitation is explicitly identified as an implicit invitation, it becomes an explicit invitation.”) I also participated in formulating a letter from several secular and religious Jewish organizations protesting the statement.

This episode illustrates both the limits of non-interventionism and the residual conversionary impulse even in friendly Catholic dialogue partners. But it also illustrates something else. To our pleasant surprise—even astonishment—the NCCB promptly removed the offending sentences from a document that they had just issued. About a year later, a Catholic interfaith activist exceedingly supportive of Jews gave a presentation at a scholarly conference that I attended where she mentioned a similar sentence about the purpose of Jewish-Christian dialogue that appeared in the official high-school catechism. I privately complained to two members of the NCCB delegation, and once again the sentence was removed. All this would have been unimaginable in the pre-“Nostra Aetate” era.

Concern with instructing Christians regarding internal beliefs and actions generally applies to matters of faith, but it ought to play a lesser yet substantial role in other contexts as well. Moves to canonize Pope Pius XII offend many Jews because of his virtual silence as the Holocaust was unfolding, and the International Jewish Committee on Interreligious Consultations (IJCIC), along with other Jewish organizations, has made a vigorous argument that the process should not proceed until the Vatican archives from the relevant period are fully available for public perusal. The pace of the process indeed appears to have been moderated, but, as an RCA delegate to IJCIC, I urged—unsuccessfully—that this issue not be pressed. It is highly improbable that a smoking gun will emerge from the archives, any evidence will be subject to different interpretations, and the benefit to the Jewish community from impeding the canonization is very difficult to discern. I felt even more strongly about vocal Jewish opposition to the canonization of Edith Stein, a Jewish convert who became a nun and was murdered by the Nazi killing machine. Here the Jewish objection was that she died because of her Jewishness, not as a Christian martyr, hardly, in my view, an appropriate casus belli with the Catholic Church. On the other hand, should the Church make any serious moves toward implementing a suggestion that Queen Isabella, who presided over the expulsion of the Jews of Spain, join the ranks of the saints, vehement objections would, I believe, be very much in order.

IV

I indicated earlier that Orthodox Jews had substantive reservations about elements of “Nostra Aetate.” Rabbi Joseph B. Soloveitchik, the dominant authority in the Modern Orthodox community, delivered a lecture titled “Confrontation” as the council was deliberating. He set forth the position that interfaith dialogue is appropriate when addressing social and moral issues, but theological interchange must be avoided. He understood very well that the boundary between these categories can be permeable but nonetheless insisted on the overall necessity of maintaining it. The RCA and O.U. have generally adhered to this guideline, and because of their participation in umbrella organizations like IJCIC and the late Synagogue Council of America, their position has served as an imperfect restraint on theological dialogue in those settings.

One of Rabbi Soloveitchik’s concerns was that theological discussion could lead to expectations of reciprocity. Whether explicitly or implicitly, Christians would say, “We have made fundamental changes in our evaluation of Judaism and the Jewish people. It is time for you to do the same with respect to Christianity.” For Rabbi Soloveitchik, religious evaluations of other religions should not be subject to such pressures; we must not “trade favors pertaining to fundamental matters of faith.”

Precisely because of the remarkable shift in Christian attitudes, the sense that Jews are obligated to re-assess Christianity has indeed emerged. Let me say immediately that those religious figures who have affirmed such an obligation have made every effort to do so with full fealty to what they see as Jewish law and theology. Nonetheless, the strain is evident, and some of the results are problematic. In September 2000, a document titled Dabru Emet was formulated by four eminent Jewish theologians and ultimately signed by well over 200 rabbis and scholars. It was organized into eight rubrics most of which are in my view unexceptionable, but I regard the strong implication that neither community should insist “that it has interpreted Scripture more accurately than the other” as uncomfortably relativistic and the assertion that Jews and Christians worship the same God as an incomplete truth.

This month, in connection with the jubilee of “Nostra Aetate,” 25 Orthodox rabbis issued a statement on Christianity (To Do the Will of Our Father in Heaven: Toward a Partnership Between Jews and Christians). Here again, much of it is unexceptionable, even admirable. I welcome its affirmations, often citing significant authorities that, like Jews, Christians worship the God of Heaven and Earth, that we share crucial moral values, and that Christians (in the words of Rabbi Samson Raphael Hirsch) “have a claim to the benefit of all the duties not only of justice but also of active human brotherly love.”

Nonetheless, elements of this declaration are decidedly problematic. Appealing to Maimonides and Yehudah Halevi, it asserts that Christianity “is neither an accident nor an error, but the willed divine outcome and gift to the nations.” It goes on to say that “Jews and Christians have a common covenantal mission to perfect the world under the sovereignty of the Almighty, so that all humanity will call on His name,” though it also asserts that the authors do not minimize the differences between the religions.

The authors know very well that Halevi and even more vigorously Maimonides saw the divine plan in the establishment of Christianity (and Islam) as preparation for universal recognition of the truth of Judaism and the rejection of those religions. There is something disingenuous about citing only half the position. Moreover, whatever we think of Maimonides’ affirmation, Modern Orthodox Jews usually shrink from making confident assertions about God’s plans and intentions (except for the monumental and in their view obvious instance of the re-establishment of Jewish sovereignty in the Land of Israel). All of a sudden, they express confident knowledge of the mind of God.

Moreover, the affirmation that Jews and Christians have a “common covenantal [my emphasis] mission” raises questions for a careful reader. I can account for it only as an endorsement of an innovative theological doctrine proposed by Rabbi Irving Greenberg, who was one of the three signatories on this document when it was circulated to obtain additional signatures. To Greenberg, as an extension of the covenants with Noah, Abraham, and even Israel, God established a covenant with Christians qua Christians, who in Greenberg’s most ambitious formulation have become a part of Israel. I am strongly inclined to think that most of the rabbis who signed the declaration saw the phrase in question as a mere rhetorical flourish; I myself would probably have missed its significance had I not reviewed Greenberg’s book. Nonetheless, they have, however unintentionally, affirmed the existence of a specific divine covenant with Christians of which Jewish tradition knows nothing and that every authority through the ages to whom Orthodox Jews turn would have rejected out of hand.

Finally, the assertion that “differences between … the religions” remain is a rather anemic way of recognizing that Jewish law requires martyrdom rather than conversion to Christianity. Given the critical importance of those differences to the core of the Jewish religion, this paean of praise to Christianity, much of which is deserved, needs to be leavened by a clearer affirmation of the transcendent significance of the theological chasm that remains. The declaration, despite its many merits, demonstrates the prescience exhibited in Rabbi Soloveitchik’s concerns.

V

The value of Jewish-Christian interaction in the social and moral sphere is clear and uncontroversial, at least among those who are open to any sort of dialogue. Here, differences about issues like abortion, gay marriage, and church-state issues cut across religious lines, dividing Jews from Jews and Christians from Christians at least as much as they divide adherents of the respective religions from one another. At the same time, there are many manifest areas of commonality and cooperation that do not need to be specified.

Finally, we turn to the critical and contentious issue of Israel. “Nostra Aetate” decisively did away with the key theological impediment to Catholic recognition of the State. No longer could a loyal Catholic assert that Jewish dispossession from the land resulted from the sin of the crucifixion and that unrepentant Jewry must remain in its exile. Nonetheless, the Vatican did not establish diplomatic relations with Israel until 1993. The reasons provided for the delay, which were embarrassingly unpersuasive, need not detain us here. The key point is that normal relations have been established, and they were made theologically possible by “Nostra Aetate”

On the spectrum of Christian attitudes toward Israel, the Vatican stands between the almost fiercely Zionist evangelicals and the hostile Protestant groups that dominate the World Council of Churches. With all the tensions—and they are legion—it is fair to say that the Vatican, at least by the global standards that currently prevail, can be counted among the friends of the Jewish State and serves as a resource to which advocates for Israel can appeal with reasonable hope of support.

I have tried to convey some measure of the intriguing complexities that characterize the contemporary Jewish-Christian and Jewish-Catholic relationship. Nonetheless, the challenging realities that we face should not obscure the overarching and indisputable fact that a brief document issued a half-century ago has revolutionized that relationship to the point where an observer transported from 1964 would be astonished, even disoriented. After recovering, the Jewish observer—though he or she should not actually succumb to the temptation—might well feel the spontaneous urge to recite the blessing at having lived to see this day.

HOLY SEE-ISRAEL RELATIONS

Louis MASSIGNON - Temps présent - Septembre 1938

VATICAN'S PLOT TO TAKE OVER JERUSALEM - EXPOSED

Many seem oblivious to the secret workings of the Vatican and their plans to take over Jerusalem. This plot has been exposed. The Palestinians are the puppets that the Vatican has used to date, and if that doesn't work she has her NATO military to fulfill her desires.

A LA DEMANDE DES PAYS ARABES ET LE VOTE DE LA FRANCE, L'UNESCO A VOTE UNE RESOLUTION REMETTANT EN CAUSE L'EXISTENCE DE JESUS. CHRETIENS REVEILLEZ-VOUS!

Avr 22, 2016

ISRAELI HOLD ON GOLAN ‘NULL AND VOID,’ UN SECURITY COUNCIL SAYS AFTER NETANYAHU VOWS PLATEAU WILL  ‘FOREVER FOREVER’ REMAIN UNDER ISRAELI CONTROL, WORLD BODY EXPRESES 'DEEP CONCERN’

The UN Security Council on Tuesday rejected Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s assertion that the annexed Golan Heights would “forever” remain under Israeli control and expressed concern over his statements.

The 15-member council agreed that the status of the Golan, which Israel captured from Syria in 1967, “remains unchanged,” said Chinese Ambassador Liu Jieyi, who holds this month’s council presidency.

Liu recalled a 1981 resolution which states that Israel’s “decision to impose its laws, jurisdiction and administration in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights was null and void and without any international legal effect.”

The council statement followed remarks made by Netanyahu earlier this month when his cabinet held a meeting in the territory, a first for an Israeli government.

“The Golan Heights will remain in the hands of Israel forever,” Netanyahu said at the start of the meeting, held amid fears that Israel could come under pressure to return the Golan as part of a future peace deal for Syria.

“Israel will never withdraw from the Golan Heights,” he said.

Council members “expressed deep concern” over the Israeli statements and “stressed that the status of the Golan remains unchanged,” said Liu.

Israel’s Foreign Ministry shot back at the Security Council’s statement, saying it was “ignoring the reality” in Syria.

“Who is Israel expected to negotiate with on the future of the Golan Heights? Islamic State? Al-Qaeda? Hezbollah? The Iranian and Syrian forces who massacred hundreds of thousands of people?” the statement said.

“In the face of the war raging in Syria and the security and stability that Israel has built in the Golan in the past 50 years, the suggestions that Israel withdraw from the Golan is unreasonable.”

Danny Danon, Israel’s Ambassador to the UN, also denounced the Security Council for discussing an issue that “completely ignores the reality in the Middle East.”

“While thousands of people are being massacred in Syria, and millions of citizens have become refugees, the Security Council has chosen to focus on Israel – the only true democracy in the Middle East,” Danon said in a statement Tuesday evening

“It’s unfortunate that interested parties are attempting to use the council for unfair criticism of Israel,” the ambassador added.

Israel captured the Golan from Syria in the 1967 Six-Day War and effectively annexed it in 1981. The international community never accepted the annexation, and Israeli leaders see in the turmoil in Syria a chance to convince the world to recognize Israeli sovereignty over the Golan.

According to a report on Israel’s Channel 2 earlier this month, the first clause of a draft agreement aimed at settling the brutal civil war in Syria, being worked on with the support of the US, Russia and other major world powers, specifies that the Golan Heights is Syrian territory and must be returned to Syria.

In November, Netanyahu reportedly asked US President Barack Obama to recognize Israel’s sovereignty over the area, given the civil war. Obama refused to even reply, according to Israeli media accounts.

Netanyahu’s statement on holding the Golan drew alarm and condemnation internationally, including from Israel’s allies and from Syria.

Deputy Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad warned in response that his war-torn state would retake the plateau by any means necessary.

The Arab League, European Union and the United States also objected to Netanyahu’s remarks on the strategic plateau, among others.

UNDER COURT'S PRESSURE, ISRAEL OKAYS 600 HOUSING UNITS FOR ARABS IN JERUSALEM NEIGHBORHOOD

At the same time, Netanyahu and Lieberman promote plans for 800 housing units for Jews in East Jerusalem and Ma'aleh Adumim, in move meant to 'sweeten the pill,' according to a senior Israeli official.

Israel approves construction of 42 units in West Bank settlement home to slain 13-year-old
Netanyahu vows to bolster West Bank settlements in response to latest terror attacks
How can Israeli leaders still argue that settlements boost security?

Israel has approved plans for the construction of 600 new housing units for Arabs in Givat Hamatos in East Jerusalem, over a month after a court rejected the state's claims that the construction plan could not go forward due to a secret decision by senior policymakers.

At the same time, plans for the construction of 800 new housing units for Jews in East Jerusalem and in Ma'aleh Adumim have also been pushed forward by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman. The move, a preliminary step to issuing actual tenders for the construction, has been described by a senior official as an attempt to sweeten the pill of the announcement regarding Givat Hamatos, where plans for a new Jewish neighborhood have been halted due to international pressure.

The state has had trouble recently in explaining to the Jerusalem District Court why the process for issuing tenders for the construction of housing for Arabs in Givat Hamatos hasn’t been set in motion, despite the fact that a corresponding plan for Jews at the same site has been published, though since frozen.

The state tried to claim that this was because of secret and diplomatic considerations that it was unable to elaborate on – a claim that was rejected by the court. "The responsible body approved a building plan. The court has not received an explanation why the petition should be rejected. If it's so important to you to retain the secrecy, then approve the plan," the judge said.

The minister for Jerusalem affairs, Ze'ev Elkin, criticized the plans for construction in Givat Hamatos on Sunday, saying that the 600 units for the Arab population must be balanced with construction for Jews on the same site.

"Anyone who cares about a Jewish majority in the capital of Israel can't promote construction for the Arab population alone," Elkin said. "I call on the prime minister to also approve construction in the Givat Hamatos neighborhood for Jews. Jerusalem needs this neighborhood and over 2,000 housing units urgently."

The plan for the construction of Jewish housing on Givat Hamatos is regarded as being particularly sensitive and many countries are following its progress. Its completion will surround the Arab Beit Safafa completely with Jewish suburbs, a fact that will complicate division of the city in any future peace agreement.

On Friday, following a fatal terror attack in the settlement of Kiryat Arba, Netanyahu and Lieberman decided to re-open a tender for the construction of 42 housing units in the Hebron-area settlement. The tender was published a year and a half ago but was frozen after no contractors applied. The bidding process is now re-opened.

The decision has been criticized from the right, when Habayit Hayehudi called it a "recycling of an old decision."

In a report released last Friday, the Quartet on the Middle East – the U.S., Russia, the EU and the UN – asserted that the current track taken by the Israelis and Palestinians has distanced the possibility of a two-state solution.

It called on Israel to stop settlement construction Area C in the West Bank, in which Ma'aleh Adumim is situated. It also called on the PA to stop incitement, step up efforts to stop terrorism and condemn attacks against Israelis.
