THE RUSSIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH AS AN INSTRUMENT OF SOFT POWER IN THE BALKANS

"... the soft power of (Russian) Orthodoxy has already become one of the foundational components of Putin's Balkan policy. This spells serious trouble for the two-decade long U.S.-NATO Euro-Atlantic project in the Balkans."

Christian church split in 1054 into the Western and Eastern branch. The Western branch with its center in Rome came to be known as the Catholic church (further splitting during the Protestant Reformation several centuries later). The Eastern branch with its center in Constantinople (Istanbul) was not able to maintain unity as long as the Western branch. Already with the fall of Byzantium and the conquests by the Ottoman Turks, it split into more than a dozen churches tied to the particular monarchs and nations. The Eastern equivalent of the pope, the ecumenical patriarch, remained a politically weak figure.

The same situation persists to this day. The leaders of the national Orthodox churches, 14 in number, are much more powerful in influencing the domestic and foreign policy agenda of their respective countries than the current ecumenical patriarch, Bartholomew I.[1]

Since the collapse of communism in Eastern Europe and the unshackling of religious expression in the former Soviet political space, the Russian Orthodox church has tried to assert its authority within the community of Orthodox churches. Though this process already started during the last years of the tenure of the patriarch Alexy II (1990-2008), it attained its full public expression in the current mandate of Alexy II's successor, Kirill I. It has closely matched the strengthening of the Russian state and its geopolitical position in the world engineered since mid-2000s by Vladimir Putin.

In fact, as I will argue in this article, the Russian Orthodox church is one of the primary instruments of soft power that Putin has at his disposal to influence political elites and populations in the majority Orthodox states in the Balkans, such as Serbia, Bulgaria, Greece, Montenegro, Macedonia, and the Serb entity within Bosnia-Herzegovina, Republika Srpska. This carries a great deal of geostrategic significance since both Bulgaria and Greece are members of the increasingly anti-Russian NATO military alliance and the rest are in various stages on the NATO membership path. The recent events which I will chronicle in this article show that the soft power of the Orthodoxy (православие) has already become one of the foundational components of Putin's Balkan policy. This spells serious trouble for the two-decade long U.S.-NATO Euro-Atlantic project in the Balkans.

Playing the Orthodox Card

The essence of soft power is its ability to sway the "hearts and minds" of the other states' elites and populations to support particular domestic and foreign policy goals without resorting to military power or any other kind of coercion. During the Cold War, the U.S. political and intelligence establishment has successfully used the products of popular culture, such as Hollywood movies, rock and roll, blue jeans, and Coca Cola, to create dissatisfaction with the conditions and quality of life in the enemy Communist Bloc. However, the destruction, suffering, and pain brought on by the process of neoliberal economic transition proved to be overwhelming and, in many cases, outweighed the benefits of the supposedly democratic political transition, which was in itself incomplete and corrupt. The norms and habits established during the Communist period crumbled and there was very little that neoliberalism offered as moral and spiritual compensation. As the result, most people began looking for psychological support and comfort in the past religious traditions and beliefs. Hence the strong resurgence of the Orthodox religious feeling and trust in the church institutions all across the former Communist Balkans.

In fact, if we take a look at public polling across the majority Orthodox states in the Balkans, we will see that the Orthodox church is generally considered the most trustworthy and credible public institution. While the approval of politicians and political parties is hardly beyond 20 percent, the Orthodox church has consistently had the approval rating of around 50 percent. In some states, such as Montenegro, the approval rating has been even higher.[2] This means that the "hearts and minds" of the majority populations are open to being swayed by the policy positions of the Orthodox church, including its strong anti-NATO stand.

If more than 20 years of the intense, well-financed NATO integrationist propaganda has not been able to reverse this trend, it is clear that the future does not bode well for the NATO advocates in the Balkans. The sweeping infiltration of the political elites, the militaries, and the intelligence structures has not paid off. The millions of U.S. and West European taxpayers' dollars, which could have been spent in fixing severely underfunded social, educational, and health care programs, have been wasted. The Western military-industrial-intelligence complex has grown exponentially, enriching the scores of executives and contractors in the process, but its expansionist foreign policy agenda in the Balkans is being subverted from the inside by the traditional grass-root political forces.

Notwithstanding the self-congratulatory rhetoric of the pro-NATO Balkan political leaders, we may witness their fall from power in near future. The first on the list appears to be the corrupt, seven-time prime minister of Montenegro, Milo Djukanović. The recent strengthening of the ties between the Russian and Serbian Orthodox church points to one of the key channels for the Russian support against Djukanović. In fact, in late December 2015, the Russian patriarch Kirill I wrote to the metropolitan Amfilohije, the head of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Montenegro, that he "could always count on the help of the Russian Orthodox church, which knows and respects [him] as an old and dear friend."[3]

Putin on the Throne of Byzantine Tsars

During his state visit to Greece at the end of May 2016, Putin visited the Russian Orthodox enclave on Mount Athos. He was joined by Kirill I who, as the key holder of the soft power of the Orthodoxy, appears to have assumed the role of the Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov with regard to the Balkans. The formal occasion was to celebrate the thousand years of the presence of the Russian monks in Greece. However, the political subtext was much broader. It involved the narrative that the Russians, as the most populous Orthodox population and the most powerful majority Orthodox state, are the "natural" and indispensable protectors of all Orthodox Balkan populations from hostile foreign influences, whether they come from the West or the East.
In this respect, what was generally passed without comment in the mass media, but had a great deal of political significance, was the fact that all the Orthodox monks (not only the Russian monks) served the liturgy in Putin's honor while he sat on the throne that allegedly belonged to the Byzantine tsars.[4] This meant that Russia's successor status to the Byzantine empire was publicly confirmed and affirmed in present time. Geopolitically speaking, this may be the most dramatic event since the collapse of the Soviet Union and it is likely to have long-term consequences that will affect not only the balance of power in the Balkans and the Middle East, but also in Europe and Eurasia in general.

It is important to keep in mind that even though there seems to be some kind of rapprochement at this time between Putin and the embattled Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan, if Russia was to assume the Byzantine geopolitical project, then the hostilities between these two former empires appear to be inevitable and will be readily exploited by their opponents in the West. This has happened many times in the past, the most bloody examples being the Crimean war (1856-1859) and the Russo-Turkish war (1877-1878). In both cases, first Russia, then Turkey, fell victim to the territorial and economic machinations of the Western powers.

The Church Relations in the Orthodox World

Even though all Orthodox churches share a common religious doctrine, the relations among them have been far from harmonious. In fact, their representatives have not gathered in one place since 787. However, spurred on by the aggressive NATO pressures from the West and the terrorist threat of radical extremists from the East, intense efforts have been made recently to coordinate the Orthodox churches' positions more closely. Earlier this year, all the churches agreed to hold a historic meeting (Sabor) on the Greek island of Crete from June 20 to June 27, 2016. However, the problems soon surfaced as to who would set the agenda and have the ultimate decision making power in formulating future policies.

The main conflict appears to be between the ecumenical patriarch Bartholomew I and the Russian patriarch Kirill I. Kirill I is interested in having the Orthodox churches more directly ally themselves with the Russian geopolitical agenda, while Bartholomew I, an ethnic Greek who is a Turkish citizen, seems to be resisting. In the end, the conflict could not be contained and resulted in the Russian and three other Orthodox churches (the Bulgarian, the Georgian, and the Antiochian (Syrian)) cancelling their participation in the Crete meeting.[5] The cancellation caused a rift within the Serbian Orthodox church, which spilled into the public view, but was eventually resolved by the decision to attend the meeting after all.[6] However, the Serbian church also promised to look out for the interests of those churches which were absent. This places it in the important position of the mediator for the negotiations which will no doubt take place soon.

The still unresolved tensions and disagreements within the community of the Orthodox churches show that Putin's policy of using the Orthodox church as a tool of soft power still faces certain obstacles at the top of some churches' hierarchies, very likely infiltrated by NATO's agents of influence. However, the grass-root pressures from below which demand an unmistakable anti-NATO policy turn, in tandem with the probable "palace coups" at the top, will diminish the number of resisters in the coming years.

[1] There are several other Orthodox churches, but, for various political reasons, they have not been recognized as legitimate by the already established churches.

YOUR DAYS SHOULD BE NUMBERED

Author tells how the Catholic Church's liturgical calendar provided a spiritual renewal

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 9, 2016 /Christian Newswire/ -- Chene Heady was a devout Catholic whose daily concerns were shaped primarily by forces other than his faith: career demands as a college professor, financial decisions, scheduling conflicts, etc. He worked long hours, and had limited regular interaction with his wife, also a busy professional, and young daughter. He was the typical overextended and anonymous modern Catholic man — until he tried a fascinating experiment that drastically rearranged his life, which he chronicles in his encouragingly honest memoir, NUMBERING MY DAYS: How the Liturgical Calendar Rearranged My Life.

After reading about the importance of the Catholic Church's liturgical year, Heady decided to take on the challenge of living as though the Church's calendar, not the secular one, stood as the center of his life. He observed the Church's seasons and feasts, and meditated on its daily readings, every day for a year. It was an immensely rewarding decision, as Heady found that his life, and his relationships, including with his wife and daughter, became more meaningful and fruitful.

One of the myriad ailments afflicting the modern world is the loss of the sense of the sacredness of time, a deafness to the rhythms that accentuate a truly Catholic life. Heady provides the antidote in NUMBERING MY DAYS, and describes how the liturgy is our universal story and alters our imperfect existence, even when we believe we're stretched thin and feel as though our lives are devoid of meaning.

"Through engaging personal stories, Chene Heady shows just how much it will change your life to center your days on the liturgical calendar," says Jennifer Fulwiler, author of Something Other Than God. "Highly recommended."

SPIRITUAL TRAP

PROTESTANTS AND CATHOLICS TO JOIN FOR PRAYER WALK IN RESPONSE TO SATANIC RITUAL

The unity under the goddess ISIS, the goddess of darkness and chaos,
the Ancient One, mother of the gods and all abominations of chaos. False teaching about the assumption of the Virgin Mary into Heaven. All these peoples will, in fact, participate to a satanic ritual under the disguise to pray against it. Dark spiritual forces uniting together the poor goyens who don't know the true God, to bring more energy for the coming destruction and chaos in this world.

I regret to inform you that satanists are planning a satanic Black Mass on city property at the Civic Center in Oklahoma City on August 15, 2016...

August 15 :
The Assumption of the Virgin Mary into Heaven, often shortened to the Assumption and also known as the Falling Asleep of the Blessed Virgin Mary,[1][3] according to the beliefs of the Catholic Church, Eastern Orthodoxy, Oriental Orthodoxy, and parts of Anglicanism, was the bodily taking up of the Virgin Mary into Heaven at the end of her earthly life.
“We trust that our government – local, state and federal – will reaffirm its commitment to protect the religious liberty of Christians and other believers as well”

ZENIT - HSM

In response to a planned satanic ritual in Oklahoma City, and to pray for peace and safety for those facing violence around the world, hundreds of Catholics, Methodists, Baptists, Anglicans, Evangelicals, Pentecostals and other faithful will join the Family Policy Institute of Oklahoma at a Unity Prayer Service & Walk at 6 p.m. on Aug. 15 in downtown Oklahoma City.

According to the Oklahoma Gazette, the Satanic ritual planned for public view will involve sulfur, menstrual blood and the ashes of blasphemed and burned Quran pages to “corrupt” a plaster statue of the Virgin Mary.

The ceremony, known as “The Consumption of Mary,” is part of a ticketed “black mass” hosted by Oklahoma City’s satanic Church of Ahriman.
A public “black mass” was held in Oklahoma City in the summer of 2014, organized by some of the same people:

As a response from Christians, the Prayer Walk will begin at 6 p.m. at the Jesus Wept Statue at Saint Joseph’s Old Cathedral, N.W. 5 and Harvey Avenue, in downtown Oklahoma City. The walk will lead to First Church, 131 N.W. 4 at Robinson Avenue, for a Prayer Service at 6:30 p.m., where Christian faith leaders from multiple denominations will lead in prayer.

“This year has been a difficult year on many levels for Oklahomans and Americans, but now is the time for the Body of Christ to come together in unity across denominational lines in a Call to Prayer. As members of the Christian faith community, we believe that prayer is essential to addressing the growing divide and continual societal conflict. We know this is true because prayer is a vital part of our faith traditions,” said Timothy Tardibono, president of the Family Policy Institute of Oklahoma.

Archbishop Paul S. Coakley of Oklahoma City, has called thousands of Catholics to pray and join the walk.

“In response to this blasphemous event, and the many other acts of hatred and violence happening in our world in recent weeks, I am encouraging the faithful and people of good will to pray together for healing and peace, and for the Lord to watch over our community and protect us from evil and its many destructive and violent manifestations. I also ask that we pray for the conversion of this man and for all who have not yet come to know the Lord of Life. As outrageous as these satanic rituals may be, those who perform them claim the mantle of religious liberty. As the local government has refused to interfere with this abhorrent blasphemous worship that is being publicly sanctioned in our community, we trust that our government – local, state and federal – will reaffirm its commitment to protect the religious liberty of Christians and other believers as well. Through the intercession of our Blessed Mother, let us pray together for healing and peace in our country and our world.”

Dr. Anthony L. Jordan, executive director-treasurer for the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma, said, “While we continue to recognize and respect our doctrinal differences, we firmly believe that now is the time for people in the Christian faith community to come together in prayer. We believe that only the light of the Gospel can provide the peace and hope our neighbors are desperately seeking amid these troubled times.” Rolling Eyes

Mgr Paul Richard Gallagher, wikipedia

THE COMING JUDGMENT AND THE DESTRUCTION OF AMERICA

JUBILEE OF MERCY TO BE CELEBRATED IN THE AMERICAS WITH CONTINENT-WIDE CONFERENCE

Rich program includes initiatives of mercy as well as saints of mercy

August 11, 2016 ZENIT StaffJ ubilees and Special Years

The Pontifical Commission for Latin America announced Wednesday that later this month, there will be a continental celebration of the Jubilee of Mercy.

The event will be held in Colombia, from Aug. 27 to 30.

THE CELEBRATION OF THE EXTRAORDINARY JUBILEE OF MERCY ON THE AMERICAN CONTINENT

Bogotá, Colombia — August 27-30, 2016

The Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy is the fruit of the Holy Spirit’s strong and timely inspiration to Pope Francis. All Christians, Christian communities and their shepherds have been invited to contemplate more deeply the mystery of Mercy, attribute of God, revealed and realized in its fullness by Jesus Christ and spread by the grace of the Holy Spirit. In this way, the Holy Father is guiding us to live the essential part of the Gospel as good news for individuals, families, peoples and nations. For this reason, from August 27th to the 30th, the continental Celebration of the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy will be taking place in Bogotá.

Along with the journey of the Jubilee year, being celebrated in Rome and in the local churches of the entire world, this event will constitute one of the great convocations on a continental level. More than 400 people from North America, Central America, South America and the Caribbean will gather to welcome and celebrate the gift of the Mercy of God revealed and realized fully in Jesus Christ by the action of the Holy Spirit.

The continental Celebration of the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy was convoked and organized jointly by the Pontifical Commission for Latin America (CAL) and the Latin American Episcopal Council (CELAM), in contact and collaboration with episcopates in the United States and Canada. The Church of the Americas will be assembled in Bogotá to live the Jubilee, a sign of the communion of the churches of the whole continent, mutually committed to celebrating and radiating the Gospel of Mercy from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego. Having passed the halfway point of the Jubilee Year already, in Bogotá the initiatives, experiences and works already carried out, as well as the fruits received, will be briefly summarized. The celebration proposes living this “year of grace” as a renewed impetus to the continental mission, especially in light of the Aparecida document and the Apostolic Exhortation Evangelii Gaudium http://w2.vatican.va/content/francesco/en/apost_exhortations/documents/papa… .

15 Cardinals and more than 120 Bishops are already registered along with participants from all nations of the continent. Rectors of National Marian Shrines, male and female religious superiors, heads of different works of mercy in American countries, American directors of associations, ecclesial movements and new communities, priests and lay people working in different ecclesial, social and popular areas will all be taking part.

The event will be presided over by Cardinal Marc Ouellet, President of CAL, accompanied by his collaborators and by Cardinal Rubén Salazar, Archbishop of Bogotá and President of CELAM, who will also count on the coordination committee of the Latin American Episcopal Council.

An important audio-visual message from the Holy Father, Pope Francis, is expected for the inauguration of this celebration, which from its very first moment has had his full approval and encouragement.

Much more than a congress, this initiative constitutes a great event. And, for this reason, its program foresees only four addresses. The first address will be from by Archbishop Rino Fisichella, a significant presence, since he is the President of the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of the New Evangelization, to whom the Holy Father has entrusted everything related to the scheduling and organization of the Jubilee Year. “This is the Great Time of Mercy,” is the title of his conference, which will echo the Bull of Indiction of the Extraordinary Jubilee, especially when it affirms that “From the heart of the Trinity, from the depths of the mystery of God, the great river of mercy wells up and overflows unceasingly.”

The second address, titled “The Church, Sacrament of Mercy,” will be given by Cardinal Marc Ouellet. Work groups will be guided to delve into and share the contents of these talks, in light of the different experiences, reflections and initiatives of the local churches of the continent.

The schedule includes a Penitential Liturgy at the very beginning of the Celebration, to encourage an examination of conscience and the supplication of mercy of all of the participants, with personal confessions.

Another major moment of the Celebration will be dedicated to the American saints. Indeed, the entire event is being presented under the motto taken from an expression of Pope Francis from May 2, 2015 when he made the invocation: “May a powerful gust of holiness sweep through all the Americas during the coming Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy!”.

Eduardo Chavez, Canon of the Basilica of the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, top “Charismatic” expert of the Guadalupan event, who will speak about “Holiness in the Times of Francis.” Fr. Chavez will focus especially on the saint par excellence, the first disciple and missionary, the Mother of God and Mother of the American nations, to whom Pope Francis has a deep devotion, as he demonstrated once more when traveling through Mexico under the gaze and with the heart of Our Lady of Guadalupe. “He is my merciful gaze,” said Our Lady of Guadalupe to St. Juan Diego of God , according to the narration of the Nican Mopohua. On the other hand, the Guadalupan event is at the origins of the formation of the American continent and its evangelization.

Immediately afterwards, some saints of the continent who stand out as “witnesses of mercy” will be presented, to gather up their legacy and consider the ways they edify the Church today and mark her mission.

Several speakers will talk about the “missionary saints of the first evangelization” (Bishop Laval, José de Anchieta, Junípero Serra…), the saintly priests (Toribio de Mogrovejo, Rafael Guizar y Valencia, Brochero…), the saintly mystics (Rose of Lima, Mariana of Quito, Teresa of the Andes…), the saints of the defenseless (Peter Claver, Laura Montoya, Mother Cabrini…), the saints of charity (Martin de Porres, Katharine Drexel, Peter of St. Joseph of Betancur…), the martyr saints (Mexican martyrs, Kateri Tekakwitha, Oscar A. Romero …), the educator saints (Miguel Febres Cordero, John Neumann…).

An entire day will be dedicated to Works of Mercy on the American continent. A panel will meet to discuss some of the most significant Works of Mercy, like the “Hogar de Cristo” (Christ’s Home) in Chile, the “Fazendas da Esperanza” (Hope Farms), “Project Rachel,” and migrant assistance centers and others. Additionally, all of the participants will be divided into groups that will visit different sites of corporal and spiritual works of mercy, especially in the poorest areas and environments of Bogotá, in its social and existential peripheries.

Finally, the theme of “Mercy as the Soul of a Culture of Encounter, Forgiveness and Reconciliation on the American Continent” will be confronted. This will be presented by the two voices of Archbishop Luis Augusto Castro Quiroga of Tunja, President of the Colombian Bishops’ Conference, and Archbishop José Horacio Gómez of Los Angeles.

The American Celebration of the Jubilee of Mercy will conclude with a “Continental Rosary for Peace,” to be followed by the Holy Eucharist presided over by Cardinal Rubén Salazar Gómez and the concluding words will come from the Presidents of CAL and CELAM. Prayer for Pope Francis and for his ministry will be an accompanying element of the participants’ activities for the duration of the entire encounter.

VIDEO : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktYJLPoOWA8

L'entretien a duré 40 minutes, selon l'Elysée.

Rolling Eyes

'BREAKING THE SILENCE' AT CHURCH FOR ALL NATIONS EQUIPS LEADERS TO STAND FOR TRUTH

“BREAKING THE SILENCE”, SENIOR PASTOR AT CHURCH FOR ALL NATIONS MARK COWARD - FOCUS TODAY

- He takes a stand for Martin Luther. Martin Luther was a freemason ;
- He promotes the coming Revival when the persecution of America and the world is at the door;
- Said that the founding father were christians when they were all masons;
- He said that US is a christian nation. No, it's a roman catholic masonic nation runs by devil worshippers;
- He speaks about to be a true disciple of Jesus-Christ but nothing about the obedience to His divine laws. Just a stand for the first amendment.
and more...

I can't find nothing about Senior Pastor Mark Cowart but for sure he promotes the Catholic unity and use many seductions to unite the US christians.

Kathmandu, Nepal—The outgoing prime minister of Nepal and dignitaries from 29 nations attended the UPF International Leadership Conference (ILC).

H.E. K.P. Sharma Oli, who was prime minister of Nepal until August 3, attended the conference along with four Nepalese cabinet ministers and 237 members of Nepal’s Legislature-Parliament.

They were joined by 194 international delegates from South Asia, Southeast Asia, Oceania and East Asia, including two former presidents, seven cabinet ministers, and 65 members of parliament.

The three-day conference took place from July 28 to 31, 2016, under the title “Addressing the Critical Challenges of Our Time: The Role of Governments, Civil Society and Faith-Based Organizations.” The Universal Peace Federation and the Parliamentarians Peace Council Nepal co-hosted the conference.

The Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction of the Government of Nepal hosted one session and the lunch that followed. The opening and closing sessions were broadcast live by two television stations.

Session titles included: “Launching Peace Road 2016,” “UPF’s Founding Vision: Realizing a World of Peace,” “Addressing the Critical Challenges of Our Time: Peacebuilding, Human Rights and Human Responsibilities,” “Overcoming Extremism and Promoting the Peaceful Resolution of Conflict: The Role of Religion and Faith-Based Organizations,” “Addressing the Critical Challenges of Our Time: The Role of Media,” “Addressing the Critical Challenges of Our Time: Climate Change” and “Making the World Better for Future Generations: International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace (IAPP).”

Inaugural Session I

Prime Minister Oli, the chief guest, came with his wife and attended the entire session. The first couple also stayed for dinner, spending altogether 4.5 hours at the ILC. The prime minister said his goal has always been “to make Nepal peaceful, prosperous and happy.” He also said that he felt this conference would make a substantial contribution toward concluding Nepal’s Peace Process by bringing parliamentarians from throughout the Asia-Pacific region to Nepal to support and encourage their Nepalese counterparts to move forward with confidence.

The prime minister emphasized that the way to do this was to be willing to give up self-interest. He also explained that this was an educational process requiring the active support of everyone, including faith-based organizations. “The common goal of all faith-based organizations should be to encourage people of a particular religion to appreciate other religions. Religious tolerance and harmony is the need of the hour,” he added.

List of speakers:

The second day began with the launching of Peace Road 2016, which was very well attended, with enthusiastic support and encouragement from ILC participants as well as many Nepalese members of Parliament. Dr. Chung Sik Yong, UPF regional president, spoke, and two parliamentarians from Nepal, one from the Nepal Family Party and another from the Nepali Congress Party, gave short comments. Several lawmakers rode bicycles to show support for the vision of the International Highway proposed by the UPF Founder. The program was brief, but it was something that everyone enjoyed. It took place in the motor court of the hotel, so it was convenient for all participants to join.

Session II: The UPF Founder’s Vision

This session was dedicated to an exposition of essential principles that underlie UPF, i.e., Rev. Dr. Sun Myung Moon’s life motto of “living for the sake of others,” Rolling Eyes which applies to all aspects of life, including marriage, family, professional careers, etc. During the question-and-answer session following the presentations, many members of the audience expressed their appreciation for having the opportunity to attend the ILC and to learn about the vision and work of UPF. Speakers often referred to the role UPF played in Nepal’s Peace Process as well as the situation facing Nepal today. This session and the lunch that followed were hosted by the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction of the Government of Nepal. This was a very important session, and even the parliamentarians were grateful to have a session that focused on the role of religions in peacebuilding. The panel featured a very strong group of interfaith leaders representing Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Christianity, each offering their strong advocacy for spiritual and religious activism to work for peace and prevent all forms of violent extremism. Each called for moderation and mutual respect, stating that violence is not consistent with any religion.

Two of the panelists, Dr. Kazi Islam, a Muslim from Bangladesh, and Shivamurthy Shivacharya from India, are longtime friends of UPF, going back 30 years. Concurrent ILC Session IV: Addressing the Critical Challenges of Our Time: The Role of the Media in Building a Peaceful World

This was a very impressive session, well attended, with very good speakers who are prominent media professionals. It was important to have a media component built into the ILC program. This session was co-sponsored by the Nepal Republic Media house and the Segye Ilbo national daily newspaper of South Korea. It dealt with the interplay between press freedom, social responsibility, and the need for guiding ethics (equally needed in sports, business, education, politics, etc.). The concept of developing personal relations among media houses, so that they can work together to monitor each other in order to help raise media standards, was introduced.

ILC Session V: Addressing the Critical Challenges of Our Time: Climate Change

Each speaker offered very valuable content in addressing the ways in which further decline of the environment due to climate change can be prevented. The speakers represented important perspectives from significant nations throughout Asia. One important issue was how to promote development, on the one hand, while also preserving the quality of the environment, on the other hand.

President Tong of Kiribati came to the podium to speak extemporaneously about this issue, explaining his efforts to raise awareness about the problems that derive from climate change. He noted that, too often, corporations focus on profit more than on protecting the environment, even ignoring human survival. He encouraged all participants to go back to their respective nations and strongly encourage their governments to address the challenges of climate change, and he called us to move beyond dependence on fossil fuels.

Moderator: Hon. Jayant Chand, former minister of commerce and current member of Legislature-Parliament, Nepal

  • Hon. Prataprao Ganpatrao Jadhav, member of Parliament, India
ILC Session VI: Making the World Better for Future Generations: International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace (IAPP)

At the end of this session, conference participants showed their support for the IAPP by signing the proposal to launch the association in the Asia-Pacific region. On February 15, 2016, at the Korean National Assembly, 150 current parliamentarians from over 40 nations first proposed the IAPP. That gathering featured keynote remarks from Dr. Sun Jin Moon, the chair of UPF International, along with the Korean Assembly speaker, Rt. Hon. Kim Eul-dong.

Throughout the remainder of this year the Universal Peace Federation will hold a series of conferences to launch the International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace globally. Programs will be held in Asia, Africa, South America and Europe. Participants were eager to sign the proposal for establishing the IAPP.

Following this, the Little Angels performed three songs, so beautifully, including Nepali songs, which won the hearts of everyone!

Closing Session

Appreciation for the vision and global foundation of UPF was unanimous. Many of the problems today are beyond national borders. Obviously and urgently, therefore, an international response is needed. The conference theme was referred to numerous times, namely, that the interaction of government, civil society and faith-based organizations was absolutely needed to address issues like terrorism, climate change, family fragmentation, youth problems, etc. Clearly we all need to work together to address the critical issues of our time.

2) On the president and vice president of Nepal, H.E. Bidhya Devi Bhandari and H.E. Nanda Kishor Pun (respectively) at the President's House.

After the conclusion of the ILC, the Little Angels gave a full two-hour performance dedicated to Nepalese schoolchildren. It was in gratitude for the warm and friendly welcome given to the Little Angels upon their arrival in Nepal. There were 800 students from 53 schools and colleges along with 500 teachers, Ambassadors for Peace and their families in the audience. Just prior to the performance, Nepalese students, their parents and staff made a pledge of purity for the sake of their nation, called “Pure Love Nepal.” The hall was overflowing with enthusiastic students; they even sat in the aisles. SUNDAY LAW MAKING ITS WAY IN DARKNESS AS CITIZENS CALL FOR A RETURN FOR SUNDAY REST

August 7, 2016

It is hard for many to conceptualize the notion that at one time in the United States Sunday Blue Laws, laws prohibiting common work, shopping and secular engagements on Sundays existed at one time in the United States. Even harder for individuals to comprehend is that one day a National Sunday Law will be enforced with civil penalties, fines and even more stringent punishments for violators. However their skepticism of a Sunday Law will neither change the history of it nor the prophecy that foretells of it or the current events that indicate that it will become a reality very soon. Pope Francis has called for and proposed mandatory Sunday Observance to solve the issues of climate change and the economy in his encyclical Laudato Si. Evangelicals have made this cry as well; and in certain cities across Europe no shopping Sundays have been instituted and no work Sundays proposed.

A nostalgic, conscientious “Christian” and staunch supporter of honoring the “Sabbath,” which he considers Sunday, penned an impassioned article expressing how sad it is that society is out of step with “Sabbath” observance and how things were for him growing up under strict adherence to Sunday not only in his home circle but also in society at large in the early 1900s in Canada. He titled his piece “No Time off For Day of Rest, Sunday Shoppers.”1 This article is eye-opening as it not only retells what was in past times but foreshadows what will be in the near future.

An excerpt from the article reads as follows: “‘What’s happening here?’ I asked myself. ‘Does no one adhere to the biblical demand to ‘remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy’ or ‘on the seventh day thou shalt rest?’ Many don’t…The Sabbath has seemingly become just another day in the week for most people. I think it’s sad. Looking back – at age 87 I’m continually looking back – Sunday traditions were different. Would you believe we kids weren’t even allowed to shine our shoes? No way. This task was completed Saturday night. So were all other forms of so-called unnecessary work. Certainly, cows had to be milked and eggs had to be gathered but these duties were considered essential. Common sense prevailed. However, many times my dad threatened to haul in an extra load of hay because rain was in the weather forecast. But never did. ‘You’ll bring the wrath of God down on this house,’ my mother would say. The warning was sufficient to change his mind…Toronto’s ‘Blue Sunday’ law came under harsh criticism by the daily media, so much so, in 1990, the Retail Business Holiday Act was ruled unconstitutional by the Ontario Supreme Court. A year later, this decision was reversed, then changed again in 1992…As an example of how far we’ve come in this regard in the last century, a Sunday Laws pronouncement dated 1911 spelled out the following prohibited commands: No work by labourers including mechanics and manufacturers; No farm work including seeding, harvesting, fencing and ditching. No railway work. No building. No baking or barbering. No sports for financial gain. No excursions for hire by train or by steamer. No advertising. No actions that diminish the public quiet including gambling, tippling or use of profane language. No public meetings except in churches. No hunting, fishing or shooting in any public places or locations within sight of places of public worship or private residences. Penalties were posted ranging from $5 to $25.”2.

With all the energy and vehemence expressed by the author, one would expect that at least he would have the correct day of the Sabbath, which is the seventh day, Saturday, not Sunday. Even if, however, he were advocating true Sabbath observance, compelling the conscience by legal enactments or otherwise is not God’s will, as God never forces but calls and entreats. In these days of advancement in the accessing and acquisition of truth, earth’s inhabitants are still suffering from the age of darkness that resulted from the 1260 years of Papal reign wherein the common person was prohibited from owning and studying the Bible, and in its place error and superstition were supplied. Others on the other hand, are willfully and obstinately ignorant. One of the lasting and most notable marks left behind by Catholicism is the erroneous solemnity of Sunday in the place of God’s true Sabbath.

As unbelievable as it may seem, that in this era of secularization, atheism and gross immorality a time will ever come that the government will impose Sunday legislation; but make no mistake about it, it is coming and that speedily. The Lord would have us remember the principle set forth in Ecclesiastes 3:15, “That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past.” Satan and his agents will so create an atmosphere of desperation and fear from every direction—economically, socially, morally, environmentally criminally, and otherwise, that individuals will lose all rational though and willingly yield their liberty of conscience and accept proposed solutions to restore normalcy and what they call God’s favor, which will be a law to return to Sunday observance.

Christians, Jews and Muslims are flocking to the Holy City for a “spiritual gathering” dubbed Amen—A House of Prayer For All Believers. The self-stated goal is to create “a single home for the world’s three major religions to harness the city’s ancient powers to inspire artists, musicians and cultural figures from around the world to redefine their art and traditions and connect amid troubling times.”

“We will study, argue—yes, this is also allowed—and pray, together and alone,” says Mekudeshet artistic director Itay Mautner. “We will see if it is possible, despite all the corporeal difficulties and earthly obstacles, to create a new reality.”

You mean to create a one world religion?

A new interfaith and spiritual gathering of Christians, Jews and Muslims will take place in Jerusalem this September.

Amen-A House of Prayer For All Believers”, part of the 2016 Mekudeshet Festival from September 4-23, is an initiative created by the Jerusalem Season of Culture, an annual festival in Jerusalem, to bring together the world’s three major faiths “who share a belief in one God and a boundless love for Jerusalem to dialogue, study, sing and pray together in one temporary house of worship,” said a press release.

Artists, actors, musicians and media figures from around the world are expected to participate in the event.

“We will study, argue – yes, this is also allowed – and pray – together and alone. We will see if it is possible, despite all the corporeal difficulties and earthly obstacles, to create a new reality,” said Mekudeshet Artistic Director Itay Mautner.

For a month, representatives from all three religions will offer a series of discussions at the Jerusalem Music Center, with options to pray three different times per day in Arabic, Hebrew and Coptic.

“It is nothing short of a miracle that between four walls, we will inaugurate a temporary home for the three religions that share Jerusalem and for all those who wish to dwell under the wings of the Almighty, Evil or Very Mad ” said Mautner.

DELEGATES FROM 86 COUNTRIES AT EVANGELISM EXPLOSION CONGRESS OF NATIONS IN INDONESIA

D. James Kennedy General Teachings/Activities

-  Dr. D. James Kennedy is a well-known author and pastor of the nearly 10,000-member Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Kennedy earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Tampa, a Master of Divinity from Columbia Theological Seminary, a Master of Theology from Chicago Graduate School of Theology, and a Ph.D. from New York University. He is the author of more than 55 books, including Evangelism Explosion (more than 1.5 million copies), What If Jesus Had Never Been Born?, The Gates of Hell Shall Not Prevail, New Every Morning, Skeptics Answered, What If The Bible Had Never Been Written?, Led By the Carpenter, Solving Bible Mysteries, and God’s Absolute Best for You.

Kennedy has also founded four organizations that he now oversees: Evangelism Explosion International (1962), Knox Theological Seminary (1989), Coral Ridge Ministries Media (CRMM) (1974), and Westminster Academy (1971). CRMM has grown from 15 employees to more than 180, broadcasting Truths That Transform, a daily half-hour national radio program carried on nearly 485 stations; The Kennedy Commentary, a daily 90-second radio feature heard on over 470 stations; and The Coral Ridge Hour, a weekly one-hour television program begun in 1978 and now carried on more than 600 stations and four cable networks (primarily on TBN, the blasphemous station owned and operated by Paul and Jan Crouch), reaching 40,000 cities and 202 nations.

Kennedy also claims to be a champion of the anti-self-esteem movement, yet his actions are much softer than his words. Also of concern is Kennedy's fascination with the "Gospel in the Stars" heresy and with his social activism and evangelistic ecumenism with Catholics and charismatics. Kennedy has also become a full-fledged "Cultural Mandate" promoter and an advocate of the "Christian America" myth.

Kennedy's Center for Christian Statesmanship is Coral Ridge's "spiritually based outreach to men and women in positions of influence and authority in our nation's capital." The Center for Reclaiming America is another Coral Ridge outreach "to inform the American public and motivate people of faith to defend and implement the biblical principles on which our country was founded."

MALANG, Indonesia, Aug. 22, 2016 /Christian Newswire/ -- Delegates from 86 nations gathered in Malang, Indonesia, in August, for the third triennial Congress of Nations sponsored by Evangelism Explosion International, a global outreach that trains people to share their faith in Jesus Christ. Rolling Eyes

The assembly of Evangelism Explosion leaders from every continent is "very important to the worldwide ministry of EE and, more importantly, to fulfilling Christ's mandate to take the Gospel message to every tribe and every nation," said Dr. John B. Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International.

More than 10 million people worldwide professed faith in Jesus Christ through Evangelism Explosion in 2015 and the Congress gives delegates the opportunity to strategize on how to reach even more people with the Gospel. Nation delegates shared methodologies and approved a series of resolutions that were included in a formal Declaration issued at the conclusion of the strategic conclave.

The gathering in Malang comes six years after delegates from 30 nations participated in the first Congress of Nations in 2010 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. That inaugural Congress launched a new approach to the global work of EEI in which indigenous EE organizations partner to strategize and work together for the effective spread of the Gospel.

Founded in 1962 by the late D. James Kennedy, Ph.D., EE was planted in every nation by 1996. It is now intentionally focusing operational strategy of the evangelism equipping outreach to include a growing international covenanted network of indigenous EE partnerships.

Each national EE group at the Congress of Nations has met a rigorous set of 12 standards necessary to participate and to be designated as an Evangelism Explosion "Multiplying Nation." Qualifying national groups must be self-supporting and have a board of directors, a national director, paid field staff, and an annual action plan. They must also be actively implementing EE in churches nationwide.

"By the 2019 Congress, our goal is to have more than 100 nations reach Multiplying status. We're on our way to meeting and possibly exceeding that goal," said Sorensen.

EEI's ultimate goal is to see every person on earth have the opportunity to hear the good news about Jesus, and believes a key strategy for that to happen includes equipping Christians through an EE movement in every country.

The Congress of Nations includes pageantry with a ceremony in which delegates march into the assembly hall, each carrying their nation's flag.

"It's not just a ceremony," says Sorensen. "Each of these participating nations represents ministries that are having a profound impact on the world through training people to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ. That's the ultimate goal—reaching every tribe, every nation and every people group with the good news of salvation through Christ alone!"

DENVER, Aug. 23, 2016 /Christian Newswire/ -- In just a few days, churches across the nation will attempt to inject hope into this election season Rolling Eyes by participating in a campaign of congregational renewal and extraordinary prayer. Pastor, author and conference speaker Daniel Henderson is spearheading this effort because he is convinced that too many Christians are feeling an unprecedented hopelessness about the current state of affairs in our nation. This campaign aims to instill new optimism and deeper faith in God's ability to transform our society.

Henderson says, "We have overestimated the role national government serves in actually bringing real change to our nation. Our history proves that America has been more prosperous during times of spiritual revival. Our nation will never be great again until the church is great – according to God's terms."

Henderson is convinced that the single greatest need in our nation today is Jesus Christ living through a revived church. The campaign will culminate with a live national webcast on October 22 (also called "Make CHURCH Great Again!") with churches all across North America participating.

Daniel Henderson served as the pastor of several mega-churches over a period of 25 years and is now the leader of a national renewal movement, Strategic Renewal International. He speaks regularly in leadership conferences, local churches and is the author of 10 books.

The "Make Church Great Again" campaign will feature a four-week study designed for congregations, Sunday School classes and small groups. Each week will feature a 10-minute video lesson, interactive discussion guide and a dynamic participatory prayer tool. The four themes are:

  • Part One: The Picture of a Great Church

  • Part Two: The Portrait of a Great Christian

  • Part Three: The Priorities of a Great Leader

  • Part Four: The Possibility of a Great Future
Accompanying this study will be an optional resource, Henderson's newest book, Old Paths, New Power – Awakening Your Church through Prayer and the Ministry of the Word.

To schedule an interview please contact [email protected]. More information on the Make CHURCH Great Again Campaign can be found at makechurchgreatagain.weebly.com.

OUTSPOKEN CARDINAL BURKE TO PARTICIPATE IN 'HOPE FOR THE WORLD' TELE-PRESS CONFERENCE

MEDIA ADVISORY, Aug. 23, 2016 /Christian Newswire/ -- WHAT – An international tele-press conference that will feature Cardinal Raymond Leo Burke, who will discuss his latest book, HOPE FOR THE WORLD, which addresses his thoughts on controversial topics, such as:
  • The indissolubility of marriage
  • Islam
  • Abortion
  • Homosexuality
  • Radical feminism
  • The role of the Catholic Church in the modern world
  • The necessity for lay Catholics to be politically active
  • The liturgy
  • Spiritual renewal
  • Poverty

Burke fearlessly provides a therapeutic analysis of the crisis affecting the Catholic Church since Vatican II, and he radiates the perennial hope that is the wellspring of evangelization in HOPE FOR THE WORLD, a thorough and hard-hitting Q-and-A with French journalist Guillaume d'Alançon. His lucid and straightforward answers help with understanding the essential moral and spiritual challenges of today, and the foundational truths of the natural law, which is written on our hearts. = lie, the natural laws are roman catholic canon laws.

Burke will take questions from media participants.

WHO – Cardinal Raymond Burke is the patron of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta and the former archbishop of St. Louis. He was made a bishop by Pope John Paul II in 1994, and a cardinal in 2010 by Pope Benedict XVI. He was called to Rome in the same year to become Prefect of the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura, before Pope Francis named him chaplain to the Order of Malta in 2014.

Burke has long been one of the most outspoken leaders of the Catholic Church, boldly defending its teachings on controversial topics, such as abortion, same-sex marriage and whether divorced and civilly remarried Catholics should be allowed to receive Communion, among many others.

WHEN – 10 a.m. ET Monday, August 29, 2016. (You must pre-register to participate.)

WHERE – Tele-press conference line. Register here: bit.ly/2bCPpJa. You will be pre-certified and receive dial-in instructions. For more information, or to request a review copy of HOPE FOR THE WORLD, please contact Kevin Wandra (404-788-1276 or [email protected]) of Carmel Communications.

NEWS ALERT - SUNDAY'S COMING - THE NATIONAL SUNDAY LAW
