LES FAMILLES PHILIPPINES, ECOLE DE LA NOUVELLE EVANGELISATION

Témoignage de la famille Rodrigo

Rome, 17 janvier 2015 (Zenit.org) Anne Kurian

RUSSIAN AMBASSADORS FOR PEACE TRY TO MAKE SOLIDARITY REAL

Written by Konstantin Krylov, UPF-Eurasia secretary general

Saturday, December 20, 2014

Moscow, Russia - Russian Ambassadors for Peace wanted their discussions on Dec. 20, 2014, to make human solidarity more than just a beautiful slogan.

They designed their meeting, held in Moscow in honor of International Human Solidarity Day, to focus on the importance of each individual’s contribution to peace. With all the conflict and strife occurring in the world, the Ambassadors for Peace wanted to discuss how to make human solidarity a reality.

In creating this day in 2005, the U.N. General Assembly noted in its resolution 60/209 that solidarity is one of the fundamental universal values that should underpin all international relations in the 21st century.

Professor Andrei Volkov of the Moscow State Institute of Radio Engineering, Electronics and Automationtouched in his talk upon political and economic aspects of solidarity. He also discussed the concept of anti-solidarity, which is present in the community in times of acute crisis.

The participants listened with interest to the coach, practicing psychologist and image maker Dmitry Ponomarev as he spoke about "spiritual aspects" in the regions and neighboring countries where he often works.

Konstantin Krylov, secretary general of UPF-Eurasia, summed up the interesting discussion. Summarizing UPF activities of 2014, he spoke about various peacemaking initiatives held to further cooperation and cultural interaction, as well as UPF support for traditional family values, healthy lifestyles and volunteering.

Thereafter followed the solemn awarding of Ambassador of Peace certificates to several attendees. One of them came from the Sakha Republic of Russia’s Far East, thus confirming the importance of such meetings and dialogues for peace and sustainable development. In fact, today intercultural interaction is especially relevant, as well as efforts to strengthen social cohesion, peace and human solidarity.

ACCEPTER LES DIFFERENCES POUR LUTTER CONTRE LA VIOLENCE

lundi 26 janvier 2015

POPE ON CHRISTIAN UNITY: WE MUST PAUSE AND LISTEN TO ONE ANOTHER

Celebrates Vespers with Representatives of Christian Churches in Rome Rome, January 26, 2015 (Zenit.org) Junno Arocho Esteves

A shared commitment to proclaiming the Gospel enables all Christians "to overcome proselytism and competition in all their forms." These were the words of Pope Francis to religious leaders gathered in the Basilica of St. Paul Outside-the Walls in Rome yesterday evening.

The celebration of Vespers concluded the "Week of Prayer for Christian Unity", an international Christian ecumenical observance held every year.

Representatives of Orthodox, Anglican, Lutheran, Methodist, Reformed and Evangelical Churches as well as Cardinals, priests and lay people from Rome were present during the prayer service.

The week-long observance had as its theme: "Jesus said to her: 'Give me to drink'", which is taken from St. John's account of Christ's encounter with the Samaritan woman. Reflecting on the Gospel, the Holy Father noted that despite the thought that Samaritans were considered heretics, schismatics and separatists, Jesus has no problem approaching her.

"His attitude tells us that encounter with those who are different from ourselves can make us grow," the Pope said.

In asking her for water, the Pope continued, Jesus' thirst is not only physical but also comes from a desire to dialogue with the woman and call her to conversion. However, he also noted that Jesus did not impose Himself but was respectful to her and gradually reveals Himself.

"His example encourages us to seek a serene encounter with others," he said. "To understand one another, and to grow in charity and truth, we need to pause, to accept and listen to one another. In this way, we already begin to experience unity. Unity is done on the path; it is never still, unity is done walking."

The Need for One Another

Pope Francis continued his reflection on Christ's encounter, focusing on their conversation about where God is truly worshipped. The Holy Father said that he "does not side with the mountain or the temple, but speaks of true worship "in spirit and truth." = in spirit of lies under Lucifer kingdom/ submission to the Catholic church.

"So many past controversies between Christians can be overcome when we put aside all polemical or apologetic approaches, and seek instead to grasp more fully what unites us, namely, our call to share in the mystery of the Father’s love revealed to us by the Son through the Holy Spirit," he said.

"Christian unity will not be the fruit of subtle theoretical discussions in which each party tries to convince the other of the soundness of their opinions. The Son of Man will come and will find us still arguing. We need to realize that, to plumb the depths of the mystery of God, we need one another, we need to encounter one another and to challenge one another under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, who harmonizes diversities and overcomes conflicts; to reconcile our differences." = the guidance of the Holy Spirit = the catholic theology, not the words of God.

The 78 year old Pontiff went on to say that through this conversation, the Samaritan woman comes to the realization that the One asking for water can satisfy her thirst for truth. Upon discovering this truth, she becomes "a missionary", announcing to the townspeople the meaning and joy to her life restored by Christ.

In today's world he continued, there are men and women who are thirsty for that same truth and are asking Christians "to give them something to drink."

"It is a request," he said to the religious representatives, "which we cannot evade."

"In the call to be evangelizers, all the Churches and Ecclesial Communities discover a privileged setting for closer cooperation. For this to be effective, we need to stop being self-enclosed, exclusive, and bent on imposing a uniformity based on merely human calculations."

"Our shared commitment to proclaiming the Gospel enables us to overcome proselytism and competition in all their forms," he continued. "All of us are at the service of the one Gospel!"

An Ecumenism of Blood

The Pope also remembered Christians suffering around the world. These martyrs, the Holy Father said, are persecuted and murdered without any distinction of their faith by their persecutors.

"They are Christians and thus persecuted," he noted. "This is, my brothers and sisters, the ecumenism of blood." = satanic ritual for their master Lucifer/Mary. All these religious leaders have reject the King of kings and are all guilty of murders, barbaris and liars. The day will come, they will have to face the one they still persecute in this 21st century.

Concluding his homily, Pope Francis greeted the representatives of Christian churches and ecclesial communities present at the celebration of Vespers. He urged them to continue the pursuit of Christian unity, which is not only a "sole prerogative of individuals or religious communities particularly concerned with this issue."

"A shared knowledge of the different traditions of consecrated life, and a fruitful exchange of experiences, can prove beneficial for the vitality of all forms of religious life in the different Churches and Ecclesial Communities," he concluded.

KING ABDULLAH II PRAISES POPE'S STANCE ON RESPECT FOR RELIGIONS

Jordanian Monarch References Pontiff's Words During Flight to Manila

Rome, January 26, 2015 (Zenit.org) Staff Reporter

Jordan's King Abdullah II praised Pope Francis' words on the need to reconcile freedom of expression and respect for religions and religious symbols.

The monarch expressed his support for the Holy Father's sentiments during a meeting with leaders of the Bedouin tribe of Beni Sakhr.

During his flight from Colombo to Manila this month, Pope Francis emphasized that everyone not only has the freedom, the right, but also the obligation, to say what they think in order to promote the common good."

However, he also stressed that freedom of expression has its limits, especially when that right is used to mock another's faith. "We cannot provoke others, we cannot insult their faith, we cannot mock their faith."

In an interview with Fides, Archbishop Maroun Lahham, the Patriarchal Vicar for Jordan of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem, said that King Abdullah referred to the Holy Father's words during that press conference.

"King Abdullah made explicit reference to the words expressed by the Pope on the fact that freedom of expression is a right, and in some cases even a duty, but at the same time it has limits, and cannot offend the religious beliefs of others," he said. "The monarch defined these considerations positive."

Archbishop Lahham also said that the Jordanian monarch denounced the actions of extremists who "do not represent true Islam" as well as stressing that the "reputation of Muslims must be protected and defended."

Ecclesia Gnostica Catholica

ORDINATION OF A DEACON

Draft Version 8/28/04 e.v.
Copyright © 1997 Ordo Templi Orientis U.S.A.

This ceremony is the first of a number of Sacred Rites in E.G.C. known as Ordinations. The Latin word Ordinare means to "order, arrange, or appoint." The Sacrament of Ordination is attributed to Sol and Tiphareth, and refers to entry into the Path of Service. It is symbolic of the Second True Grade of the Order of Thelemites, that of the Lover, Tiphareth, the mediator between Kether and Malkuth, who serves both.

(The Temple is prepared for Gnostic Mass. The Candidate, clothed in his or her white robe of confirmation, is standing at the opening of the Tomb. The ordination is performed by a bishop, or by either a priest or a priestess acting under the authority of a bishop. The Officiant admits the Congregation, then goes to the foot of the three steps and addresses the Candidate.)

THE OFFICIANT: Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law. [Name], is it your will to pledge yourself to the Path of Service in Ecclesia Gnostica Catholica?

CANDIDATE: It is.

THE OFFICIANT: As a Deacon, do you promise that you will abide by the policies of Ecclesia Gnostica Catholica, and that you will faithfully fulfill the functions of a Deacon, ever in service to your congregation, and under the direction of your Priest and Priestess?

CANDIDATE: I do.

THE OFFICIANT: (Directs Candidate to advance to the Altar of Incense.) [Name], is it your will to be ordained Deacon of Ecclesia Gnostica Catholica?

CANDIDATE: It is.

THE OFFICIANT: (Imposes hands on Candidate's head in silence; then opens the front of Candidate's robe and anoints with the right thumb the center of Candidate's breast with Oil of Abramelin, in the form of a circled cross. If this is not possible, the Officiant anoints Candidate's forehead.)

"The Sun, Strength & Sight, Light; these are for the servants of the Star & the Snake." (Pause)

By the power and authority in me vested, I hereby ordain you a DEACON of Ecclesia Gnostica Catholica.

(Vests new Deacon with yellow mantle, and presents him/her with a copy of the Book of the Law.)

Receive the Threefold Book of Law; "to each man and woman that thou meetest, were it but to dine or to drink at them, it is the Law to give."

(Raising hands in blessing.)

(They both turn to face the Congregation. The Officiant addresses the Congregation.)

Sisters and Brothers, I present to you your Deacon.
I beseech you to follow his direction and render unto him the same respect and devotion you show to your Priest and Priestess.

(The front of the new Deacon's robe is refastened, if necessary. All officers take their places and celebrate the Gnostic Mass, the new Deacon assuming his/her role throughout the ceremony.)

WHO ARE TIPHARETH, KETHER AND MALKUTH ?

Tiferet ("Adornment", Hebrew: תפארת [tifˈʔeʁeθ]) alternately Tifaret, Tifereth, Tyfereth or Tiphereth, is the sixth sefira in the kabbalistic Tree of Life. It has the common association of "Spirituality", "Balance", "Integration", "Beauty", "Miracles", and "Compassion".

Contents

Description

In the Bahir it states: "Sixth is the adorned, glorious, delightful throne of glory, the house of the world to come. Its place is engraved in wisdom as it says 'God said: Let there be light, and there was light.'" [1]

Tiferet is the force that integrates the Sefira of Chesed ("compassion") and Gevurah ("Strength, or Judgement (din)"). These two forces are, respectively, expansive (giving) and restrictive (receiving). Either of them without the other could not manifest the flow of Divine energy; they must be balanced in perfect proportion by balancing compassion with discipline. This balance can be seen in the role of Tiferet, wherein the conflicting forces are harmonized, and creation flowers forth. Tiferet also balances Netzach and Hod in a similar manner. In that case Hod can be seen as the intellect where Netzach is seen as emotion.

Tiferet also occupies a place on the middle pillar, and can be seen as a lower reflection of Kether, as well as a higher reflection of Yesod and Malkuth. Tiferet relates to the sun, and as such, it takes a central place in the lower face of the Tree of Life, much in the same manner that the sun is at the center of the solar system. It is not the center of the universe, as one could perhaps argue Kether to be, but rather it is the center of our local astronomical system. Nonetheless, it is the sun that gives light and life, even though it did not create itself. Tiferet can be seen as a metaphor for these same attributes.

Tiferet is unique amongst the Sephirot as it is connected to all the other Sephirot (except Malkuth) via the subjective paths of the unconscious. Its position down the center between Keter and Yesod indicates to many Kabbalists that it is somewhat of a "converting" Sephirot between form (Yesod) and force (Keter). In other words, all crossing over the middle path via Tiferet results in a reversed polarity. The law of conservation of energy and mass tends to corroborate this – in all cases of energy transmutation, a sacrifice is necessary so a new form may be born.

Tiferet is the middle of the tree. Five Sefirot surround it: above are Chesed at the right (south) and Gevurah at the left (north), and below are Netzach at the right, Hod at the left, and Yesod directly below. Together these six are a single entity, Zer Anpin, which is the masculine counterpart of the feminine sefira Malkuth. In certain contexts, Tiferet alone represents all the sefirot of Zer Anpin, so that the entire tree appears with only five sefirot: Keter, Chochmah, Binah, Tiferet, and Malkhut.

In the standard tree, Tiferet has eight paths, leading (counterclockwise) to Keter (through Daat), Binah, Gevurah, Hod, Yesod, Netsach, Chesed, and Chokmah.

Tiferet can be also a variation of the word "Tifarah" and in Modern Hebrew used in Israel is translated as "Glory" (from God – "Elohim, Adonay)

Non-Jewish associations

In Christian Cabala, Tiphereth is especially associated with Jesus Christ, 'God the Son' (as opposed to Kether, which is God the father, and Yesod, the Holy Spirit). This is because this is the Sephirah in which the divine force 'sacrifices' itself, transmutating into the forces of energy and matter, in order that creation might come to be. It is the sephirah in which 'God becomes a mortal man'. Illustrative of the process of Tipharet is Jesus' teaching in the Book of John, "No one comes to the Father except through me". Kether is raw energy as the Godhead and is as such unknowable by the conscious mind; Tiphareth (the son) balances the force and form of Kether and Yesod respectively allowing Kether to assume a knowable form. A Christian mystic, in relating to Jesus, repeats the process in the other direction, by transmutating that which is lower, in order to achieve the divine. In terms of the Kabbalah, Tipharet encompasses not only "God the Son" but also the related myths of Osiris and other sacrificial gods.

The archangel of this sphere is Raphael, and the Malachim is the Angelic order. The astrological correspondence is again the sun, and the zodiac associated with Tiferet is Leo.

Christianity primarily focuses on Tipharet as a driving spiritual force, emphasising the points of love, beauty, self-sacrifice and service in its greater aspect. Particularly the Osirian sect and other derivations of polytheistic religions, with their personification of gods, emphasise the unknowable from the standpoint of Yesod. The eastern religions, particularly Taoism and Buddhism are more closely related to Kether, with their focus on unity and the indefinable aspect of the Divine.

Tiphereth is associated with divine love, with healing, balance and harmony. In comparing with Eastern traditions, Tiphereth is usually associated with the central Anahata chakra in tantric tradition, which contains many of the same archetypal ideas.

Liber 777 attributes Tiphereth as the four sixes of the tarot as well as the Princes and Emperors cards, Ra, Rama, Buddha, Apollo, Adonis, God the Son (Jesus), Phoenix, Lion, Bay, Laurel, Topaz, Lamen of he Rosy Cross, Abrahadabra, Coffee, and Alcohol.

The pre-coronation name of Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie the First was "Tafari Makonnen". This name Tafari (or Teferi) is the Ethiopic form of Tiferet.

MALKUTH

Malkuth or Malchut[pronunciation?] ("kingdom"; Hebrew: ملكوت ;מלכות), or Shekhinah, is the tenth of the sephirot in the Kabbalistic Tree of Life. It sits at the bottom of the Tree, below Yesod. This sephirah has as a symbol the Bride which relates to the sphere of Tipheret, symbolized by the Bridegroom.

Unlike the other nine sephirot, it is an attribute of God which does not emanate from God directly. Rather it emanates from God's creation—when that creation reflects and evinces God's glory from within itself.[1]

Hermetic and Christian Kabbalah

Malkuth means Kingdom. It is associated with the realm of matter/earth and relates to the physical world, the planets and the solar system. It is important not to think of this sephirah as merely "unspiritual", for even though it is the emanation furthest from the divine source, it is still on the Tree of Life. As the receiving sphere of all the other sephirot above it, Malkuth gives tangible form to the other emanations. It is like the negative node of an electrical circuit. The divine energy comes down and finds its expression in this plane, and our purpose as human beings is to bring that energy back around the circuit again and up the Tree.

Some occultists have also likened Malkuth to a cosmic filter, which lies above the world of the Qliphoth, or the Tree of Death, the world of chaos which is constructed from the imbalance of the original sephirot in the Tree of Life. For this reason it is associated with the feet and anus of the human body, the feet connecting the body to Earth, and the anus being the body's "filter" through which waste is excreted, just as Malkuth excretes unbalanced energy into the Qliphoth. Another way to understand this is that when one is sitting, as in a meditative state, it is the anus that makes physical contact with the Earth, whereas when one is standing or walking, it is the feet that come in contact with the Earth, or Malkuth.

Malkuth is also associated with the world of Assiah, the material plane, and the lowest of the Four Worlds of Kabbalah. Because of this relation to Assiah, it is also related to the Suit of Pentacles or Coins in the Tarot. In the modern card set, this relates to the Suit of Diamonds and symbolizes material wealth, or the treasures found in the physical world. Through Assiah, Malkuth is also related to the four Page cards in the Tarot as well. These are seen as the Jacks of the modern deck. Because it is directly associated with Assiah, Malkuth also represents the second He (ה) in the tetragrammaton (יהוה). There is also a connection to the tenth card of each suit in Tarot. The element of Malkuth is Earth.

The name of God is Adonai Melekh or Adon ha-Arets. These exist in the highest world, Atziluth. In the world of Briah, where the archangels reside, the archangel of this sphere is Sandalphon. In the world of Yetzirah, the Ishim (souls of fire) is the Angelic order. In Assiah, the planetary or astrological correspondence with Malkuth is the Earth. In the outer shell of its Sephiroth in Assiah, the Qliphah of Malkuth is Lilith.

Symbols associated with this sphere are a Bride (a young woman on a throne with a veil over her face) and a double cubed altar. Where Binah is known as the Superior Mother, this sphere is referred to as the Inferior Mother. It is also referred to as the bride of Microprosopos, where Macroprosopos is Kether.[2]

From a Christian viewpoint this sphere is important since Jesus preached that people should "seek first the Kingdom of God".

In some systems, it is equated with Da'at, knowledge, the invisible sephirah.

In comparing with Eastern systems, Malkuth is a very similar archetypal idea to that of the Muladhara chakra. In this manner, Malkuth is again associated with the anus, although technically the Muladhara is located in the sacram bone. In Shakta tantra, which is also associated with the Earth, the plane in which karma is expressed.

Although Malkuth is seen as the lowest Sefirah on the tree of life, it also contains within it the potential to reach the highest. This is exemplified in the Hermetic maxim 'As above so below'.

KETHER

Keter (Hebrew:
כֶּתֶר (help·info), lit. Crown) also known as Kether, is the topmost of the Sephirot of the Tree of Life in Kabbalah. Since its meaning is "crown", it is interpreted as both the "topmost" of the Sephirot and the "regal crown" of the Sephirot. It is between Chokmah and Binah (with Chokmah on the right and Binah in the left) and it sits above Tiphereth. It is usually given three paths, to Chokmah, Tiphereth, and Binah.

Keter is so sublime, it is called in the Zohar "the most hidden of all hidden things", and is completely incomprehensible to man. It is also described as absolute compassion, and Rabbi Moshe Cordovero describes it as the source of the 13 Supernal Attributes of Mercy.

Keter is invisible, colorless.[1]

Description

According to the Bahir: "What are the ten utterances? The first is supreme crown, blessed be His name and His people." [2]

The first Sephirah is called the Crown, since a crown is worn above the head. The Crown therefore refers to things that are above the mind's abilities of comprehension. All of the other Sephirot are likened to the body which starts with the head and wends its way down into action. But the crown of a king lies above the head and connects the concept of "monarchy", which is abstract and intangible, with the tangible and concrete head of the king.

This first Sefirah represents the primal stirrings of intent in the Ein Soph, or the arousal of desire to come forth into the varied life of being.[2] But in this sense, although it contains all the potential for content, it contains no content itself, and is therefore called 'Nothing', 'The Hidden Light', 'The air that cannot be grasped'. Being desire to bring the world into being, Keter is absolute compassion.[3]

The name of God associated with Keter is Ehyeh Asher Ehyeh (Hebrew: אהיה אשר אהיה), the name through which he revealed himself to Moses from the burning bush.[4] "It is from the name Ehyeh that all kinds of sustenance emanate, coming from the source, which is the infinite".

Keter, although being the highest Sephirah of its world, receives from the Sephirah of Malkuth of the domain above it (see Sephirot). The uppermost Keter sits below no other Sephirah, although it is below Or Ein Soph which is the source of all Sephirot.

Da'at and Keter are the same Sephirah from two different aspects. From one aspect this Sephirah is referred to Keter and from another aspect it is referred to as Da'at. Therefore when Da'at is counted then Keter is not counted and when Keter is counted Da'at is not counted[citation needed].

Qualities Ethical behaviour

Rabbi Moshe Cordovero, in The Palm Tree of Devorah, discusses ethical behaviour that man should follow, related to the qualities of the Sephirot, in order that man might emulate his Creator. Humility is the first, because although Keter is the highest, it is ashamed to look at its cause, and instead gazes at those below it.[5] One's thoughts should be pure, one's forehead should display no harshness, one's ears should always turn to hear good, one's eyes should distance themselves from noticing evil, always looking at the good, one's nose should be free from the breath of anger, one's face should always shine, and his mouth should express nothing except good.

13 Supernal Attributes of Mercy

Main article: Thirteen Attributes of Mercy

Through discussion of a line in the Michah, 13 attributes are associated with the Sephirah Kether:
Who is God like you, who pardons iniquity and forgives the transgressions of the remnant of his heritage? He does not maintain His anger forever, for He delights in kindness. He will again show us compassion, He will vanquish our iniquities, and You will cast all their sins into the depths of the sea. Show faithfulness to Ya'akov, kindness to Avraham, which You have sworn to our fathers from days of old. (Michah, 7:18-20)
Accordingly, the 13 attributes are derived from this and described in great detail.

Additionally, the "Thirteen Attributes of Mercy" were described by Rabbi Chizkiyah in an allegorical depiction of a lily among thorns. The metaphor in whole is known and taught as "The lily amongst the thorns," a phrase found in Shir Hashirim 2:2. A summary:

"The secret of spiritual protection is revealed through a richly metaphorical discourse given by Rabbi Chizkiyah. The Rabbi explains that the spiritual forces that protect and watch over us are called the 13 Attributes of Mercy. They are transmitted into our physical world through the first 13 words of the Torah. When judgments are decreed against us, these 13 forces can safeguard us from their influence. We begin drawing this Light of protection to ourselves at the very moment we begin to browse and behold the mystical shapes and sequences of the Aramaic text, and to learn the spiritual insights presented there." [6]

Non-Jewish practices

In The Mystical Qabalah Dion Fortune describes Keter as pure consciousness, beyond all categories, timeless, a point that crystallises out of the Ein Soph, and commences the process of emanation that ends in Malkuth.

The name of God given to it is Eheieh, the archangel that presides over it is Metatron, the order of angels that resides in it are the Holy Living Creatures (the Chaioth ha Qadesh, Hebrew: היות הקדש), and its mundane chakra is said to be the First Swirlings of the cosmos (Primum Mobile, Rashith ha Gilgalin).

A.E. Waite made mention that Rabbi Azariel ben Menachem, a student of Isaac the Blind, in his Commentary on the Sephiroth granted a particular colour to each Sephira, yet these do not agree with the colours given in the Zohar, where Kether (which, according to him, is also correlated to Yechidah) is called colourless, Tiphareth purple, and Malkuth sapphire-blue.[7]

As pure formless consciousness, it is often compared with the Sahasrara chakra, which resides above the crown of the head, in Indian Shakta Tantra.

In Aleister Crowley's Liber 777, Keter is associated with the Four Aces of the Tarot deck, White Brilliance, Poseidon, Brahma, Wodan, Zeus, The Trinity, Almond in flower, Diamond, Elixir Vitae, Dao, and Death (not a complete list of the 777 associations).

It is said to have a negative aspect, the Qliphah Thaumiel.

Keter is also identified with the former planet Pluto, the Atma in Theosophy and Raja Yoga, and the Khabs am Pekht in Egyptian mysticism.[8]

Also known as Muhammad, Mahomet or Mahmud. Arabic (Meccan) religious reformer, and founder of the Abrahamic Religion known as Islam. Crowley considered him to be a Magus of A:. A:., whose Word was LA ALLAH or LA AL, "No God" and his fundamental doctrine was that God is One. See Chapter 74 of Liber Aleph, Part III of The Heart of the Master, and Chapter 7 of The Book of Lies. Crowley's version of Mohammed's Word as Magus is taken from the Kalimah, the first clause of the Muslim Profession of Faith, the Shahadah. which is: La ilaha ill' Allah, wa Muhammad rasul Allah, "There is no God, but God, and Mohammed is the Messenger of God."

Muhammad ibn Abdallah was born into the Bani Hashim branch of the powerful Quraysh tribe, which had historically ruled the pagan city of Mecca (Makkah). Mecca was an important city even in those days, pilgrims from all over Arabia made pilgrimage to Mecca to circumambulate the Kaaba and kiss the Black Stone, which was then consecrated to the moon-god Hubal. Mohammed's father died before Mohammed was born. Mohammed was brought up first by his mother, Amina, then by his Grandfather, Abd al-Muttalib, later by his uncle, Abu Talib. Throughout his childhood he was attracted to the world of the spirit. He was drawn to solitary contemplation, and he often experienced visions, some violent and disturbing. Some modern scholars have theorized that he was epileptic.

Mohammed's uncle, Abu Talib, was a textile merchant, and the young Mohammed accompanied his caravans to Syria, Yemen, Egypt and Mesopotamia. During the caravans, Mohammed often conversed with the priests, rabbis and monks he encountered at the various trading posts, accumulating knowledge about the various forms of Judaism and Christianity extant at the time.

At the age of twenty-five, he married a wealthy forty-year-old widow named Khadija. She gave him six children, two boys and four girls, only one of whom, his daughter Fatima, survived him. Khadija's cousin was a religious scholar named Waraqa, who was the first to have translated parts of the Old and New Testaments into Arabic. Mohammed frequently sought out Waraqa's company and conversation.

At the age of thirty-five, Mohammed began taking retreats to a cave in Mount Hiraa', in the desert hills outside Mecca, to meditate in solitude. It was during one of these retreats that Mohammed received his Call. It was the year 610 e.v., one of the last ten nights of the month of Ramadan; and at that time, Ramadan occurred during the hottest part of the summer. He was sitting alone in his cave in the darkness, wrapped in his shroud, when he was startled by a sound "like the reverberations of a bell." He realized that it was a voice, and the voice had exclaimed the word, " Iqraa! " ("Read!"). Mohammed falteringly replied that he could not read. The voice repeated its command. Mohammed protested that he did not know how to read, but the voice repeated its command a third time.

Mohammed then asked what it was that he should read, and a luminous scroll, inscribed with letters of fire, appeared before him. He read the words, though he had never read before. The voice continued:

Citation:

"Read in the name of thy Lord, the Creator, who created man from a clot of blood! Read! Your Lord is most generous, for he has taught by the pen, revealing mysteries unto man!"

The vision had passed, and Mohammed was left questioning his sanity. He considered throwing himself over a cliff, but as he emerged from the cave into the night air, the Voice rang out again: "O Mohammed! You are Allah's messenger, and I am Gabriel!" He looked up and beheld the Angel suspended in the middle of the night sky, transfixing him with his piercing, shining eyes (later, astronomers determined that the Moon and the planet Venus had been in close conjunction at that time).

In further revelations, Mohammed's mission in life was clarified: he had been called upon to preach to the world the true Faith of the One God. At first he was reticent-- he had doubts about the authenticity or source of his vision. But Khadija encouraged him, and soon his calling was confirmed by additional visions which revealed the terrible doom which lay in store for sinners and infidels. He began to preach to a small group of close associates. Khadija and Waraqa were his first disciples, then came his friend and business associate Abu Bakr, `Ali, the son of Abu Talib, and Mohammed's slave Zayd ibn-Thabit.

Muslims do not consider Islam to be a new religion. Islam was intended to be a reform of the ancient religion of Abraham, of which Judaism and Christianity are branches. Islam confirms the truth of the Torah and the Gospels, but purports to clarify them, to correct a number of errors of interpretation, and to purify them from the accretions of rabbinical and priestly sophistries. The major reforms of Islam include the rejection of polytheism (including trinitarianism), idolatry, and priestcraft. The "five pillars" of Islam are : 1. Shahadah, Profession of Faith; 2. Salat, Prayer (5 times a day); 3. Zakat, Alms giving; 4. Sawm, Fasting (during the holy month of Ramadhan); and 5. Hajj, Pilgrimage to Mecca (at least once in the Muslim's lifetime).

Muslims revere Isa (Jesus) as a great prophet, but not as God incarnated as do the Christians. Muslims also reject the belief that Isa suffered crucifixion, but assert that an accomplice was crucified in his place. An empty tomb for Isa lies next to that of Mohammed at Madina, where they believe he will be buried after his return to battle the forces of evil during the last days.

Mohammed's circle gradually grew wider, including the wealthy and influential merchant `Uthman ibn-Affan of the Umayyads, the Quraysh aristocracy, and the warrior prince `Umar ibn-Khattab. Mohammed began to feel more confident in his role as last of the Prophets. His visions continued, and included one (the Mi`raj) in which he was carried to the Temple Mount at Jerusalem on the back of a winged horse with a human face. There he entered the Holy of Holies and prayed alongside Ibrahim (Abraham), Musa (Moses) and Isa. He then ascended a celestial ladder to paradise and was brought before Allah Himself, who embraced him and spoke to him (Islamic theologians still dispute what Allah may have told him). He then descended the ladder to the Temple Mount, where the winged steed returned him to the house in Mecca where he was staying.

Eventually, he resolved to convert the pagans of Mecca to the One True Faith. The Umayyads, the aristocratic branch of the Quraysh, refused to recognize Mohammed's authority, and he was forced to flee Mecca to the city of Yathrib (now called Madinat an-Nabi-Allah, the City of the Prophet of God, or "Madinah" for short) under threat of murder.

Mohammed's flight from Mecca, called the Hijra, occurred in 622 e.v., and marked the beginning of the great diffusion of the Islamic Faith. The Hijra serves as the point of beginning of the Islamic calendar. Yathrib was a town founded by Jews, and Mohammed, while still in Mecca, had convinced a large number of them that he was the promised Messiah. These converts had prepared the way for him, and he entered Yathrib like a king.

Khadija had died before the Hijra, and Mohammed married `A'ishah, the daughter of his close friend Abu Bakr. His preachings began to take on a gentler tone, emphasizing the rewards in store for the faithful, and how the faithful should conduct their lives. He preached of the rights of women and of slaves, and preached against compulsion in matters of religion. He won many additional converts in Yathrib, and, with his eye still on Mecca, began raiding Meccan caravans to accumulate wealth. The Umayyads, of course, retaliated with sporadic attacks upon Yathrib. As his followers were increasingly required to kill and die for the faith, his preachings took on an increasingly belligerent tone; he proclaimed that idolatry was worse than war, and that the quickest way to Paradise was to die for the Faith in battle. When he had accumulated enough support and resources, he returned to the city of his birth and conquered it. He reconsecrated the Kaaba to the service of the One True God, and began laying plans for conquering the world. He died peacefully in `A'ishah's hut near the Mosque in Madinah, and was buried where he died. Although he did not live to see the Faith progress beyond the Arabian peninsula, his successors pushed it to the ends of the Earth. Within three generations after Mohammed's death, they had conquered nearly all the lands from Spain to the frontiers of China.

Mohammed had many children, but none of his sons and only one daughter, Fatima, survived him. According to tradition, only a male child is suitable for heirship, so Mohammed left no clear successor to his religious authority.

His first successor, or Caliph (Khalifa), the saintly Abu Bakr, was elected by a group of Mohammed's closest followers (in the absence of `Ali). Under Abu Bakr, the Islamic empire grew to include Yemen, Oman, Bahrain and most of Palestine.

Mohammed could not read or write, but his followers recorded his teachings on the materials that were available. After his death, Abu Bakr commanded Zayd to gather together Mohammed's revealed teachings, recorded over a twenty-three year period from 609 e.v. to 632 e.v., into a single volume. This volume became the Qur'an, which constitutes the holy book of Islam. The Qur'an is organized into 114 Chapters in which each Chapter, called a Surah ("degree"), represents one (or more) of Mohammed's revelations; although they are not arranged in chronological order. 93 of the Surahs were received during the 13 years prior to the Hijra at Mecca, the remaining 21 were received later at Madinah.

Abu Bakr died in 634 e.v. and was followed by the heroic, tyrannical `Umar, who conquered Syria, Iraq, Egypt, Persia and Jerusalem. `Umar was murdered in 644 e.v. On his death bed, he appointed a committee of six Quraysh to debate his succession between `Ali and `Uthman, and `Uthman, at age 70, was chosen. `Uthman's generals added a considerable amount of property to the empire, including Cyprus, Rhodes, Libya, Afghanistan, Turkestan and Khorasan.

Nevertheless, `Uthman proved to be a feeble, corrupt and incompetent ruler. He placed members of his own Umayyad tribe in all the positions of high authority. He revised the Qur'an (deleting all the negative references to the Umayyads) and had all copies of the previous version destroyed. Many objected to `Uthman's revision, but it nevertheless became the standard and is the version in use today. `Uthman became quite unpopular, and he was murdered by insurgents lead by the son of Abu Bakr, Muhammad ibn Abu Bakr, in 656 e.v.

The Prophet's cousin, son-in-law, and adopted son, Hadrat `Ali ibn-Abu Talib, was elected the fourth Caliph. `Ali had married Fatima and had two sons by her, Hasan and Husayn. `Ali had been an extremely valiant warrior in Mohammed's service, earning the epithet "The Lion of God," but he inherited from `Uthman an empire in disarray; and his reign as Caliph was plagued by treachery and conspiracy.

`Ali's election was disputed by a member of `Uthman's Umayyad elite, Mu`awiyah, governor of Syria. Mu`awiyah contended that `Ali bore some of the guilt for `Uthman's murder by failing to punish Muhammad ibn Abu Bakr. In defiance of `Ali, Mu`awiyah proclaimed himself Caliph at Damascus in 660 e.v. `Ali was powerless to stop him, and was assassinated in 661 e.v. `Ali's son Hasan claimed his successorship, but was convinced by Mu`awiyah to abdicate. Mu`awiyah promised that the Caliphate would return to the house of Mohammed upon his death; but after Hasan's death, he appointed Yazid, his own son, to be his successor. Husayn attempted a revolution, but was defeated and beheaded by Yazid. The house of Mohammed had bestowed the Caliphate upon the Umayyads, and a legacy of turmoil upon Islam.

`Ali's ardent followers, who became known as the Shi`a (adherents), believed that `Ali had been designated by Mohammed himself as his true successor, that `Ali's sons bore the Prophet's virtue through his daughter Fatima; and, therefore, that `Ali's dynasty had the true divine sanction to rule over Islam. They accepted the authority of the first four Caliphs, but rejected that of Mu`awiyah and all those who followed him. The Shi`a refer to the descendants of `Ali as Imams (examples), and reject the religious authority of all the Caliphs who succeeded `Ali. The "orthodox" Muslims, who recognized the authority of Mu`awiyah and the Caliphs who followed him, became known as the Sunni (traditionists).

The Shi`a have always been at odds with the Sunni, but they have also been at odds with themselves. The sixth Shi`ite Imam, Jafar, had two sons, Isma`il and Musa. The eldest, Isma`il, had been chosen as the next Imam but did not survive his father. Jafar designated his younger son Musa as the next Imam; but Isma`il had already had his own son, Mohammad ibn Isma`il, and had proclaimed him to be the next Imam. This, of course, resulted in another schism. The followers of Isma`il are known as Isma`ilis or "Sevener" Shi`ites.

Musa's decendants ruled over "orthodox" Shi`ism. Several generations later, in the year 878 e.v., the twelfth Imam of Musa's line, Mohammed ibn Hasan, decended the stairs into the cellar of the Great Mosque of Samarra and never returned. The twelfth Imam had vanished without a trace from the world at the age of seven, leaving no successor. "Orthodox" Shi`ism is therefore sometimes referred to as "Twelver" Shi`ism. The Twelvers believe that the twelfth Imam was taken by God into temporary hiding from the world, and that he will return some day as the Mahdi, or Messiah. It is this branch of Shi`ite Islam which rules modern Iran.

The Isma`ili branch of Shi`ite Islam gave birth to the ruthless, mystical Qarmatian movement, whose secret doctrines were revealed through a series of initiations given in seven degrees. The Qarmatians founded the Fatimid dynasty of Egypt, which in turn generated the secretive sect of Lebanon called Druses as well as the notorious Assassins of Lebanon and Northern Iran, who were alleged by some historians to have influenced the Knights Templar.

Islam contains another tradition worth mentioning here, that of the Islamic mystics known as Sufis or Dervishes. Sufism is nearly as old as Islam itself, and, though primarily centered in Persia, the heart of Shi`ism, crosses over all schismatic boundaries. The Sufis emphasize personal mystical experience over temporal power, and can in this way be considered the "Islamic Gnostics." They are generally detested by both the Shi`a and Sunni orthodoxies. Some scholars believe that Sufism developed through the assimilation into Islam of elements of Christianity and Neoplatonism, but such hypotheses are difficult to prove.

Sufism has it's own list of philosopher-poet-saints apart from the Caliphs and Imams, some of the greatest of which are Abu Yazid ("Bayazid," died 909 e.v.), Rabi'a al Adawiya (717-801 e.v.), Husayn ibn-Mansur al-Hallaj (d. 922 e.v.), Abu-Hamid Mohammed al-Ghazzali (1058-1111 e.v.), Fariduddin Attar (1110-1220 e.v.), Muhiyuddin Muhammad ibn-`Ali ibn-al-`Arabi (b. 1165 e.v.) and Maulana Jalaluddin Rumi (1207-1273 e.v.).

SAN DIEGO, Feb. 2, 2015 /Christian Newswire/ -- Catholic Answers, the largest apologetics and evangelization apostolate in North America, has appointed Christopher Check, formerly director of development, to succeed Karl Keating as the organization's president.

Keating founded Catholic Answers in the eighties as a response to challenges to Catholic belief posed by Protestant fundamentalists and other groups. What began as a part-time ministry run from his home grew into an internationally recognized apostolate with a team of apologist-speakers, a daily radio show, a press and magazine, and an internet presence that includes www.catholic.com, the second-most-visited Catholic website after the Vatican's.

As he handed over the reins, Keating expressed excitement for the future of Catholic Answers under Check's leadership, calling the succession "the fulfillment of a longtime wish." He praised Check's "wide experience, deep knowledge of history, and deeper love for the Church," and said he has known for years that Check would be "the right man to take Catholic Answers to the next level."

Check, a former Marine Corps officer who joined Catholic Answers as development director in 2012 after nearly twenty years with the Rockford Institute, said he is humbled by the opportunity before him.

"I cannot imagine building something as magnificent as Catholic Answers and then handing it over," he said. "I am grateful beyond words for the confidence shown to me. By the grace of God, Catholic Answers will continue its great work, continue to grow, and bring more souls to the fullness of the truth."

Keating will remain with Catholic Answers as senior fellow, and said he plans to devote more time to writing and speaking.

UPF STATEMENT ON INTERRELIGIOUS DIALOGUE

Now, you understand why islam will dominate the world under the Antichrist Madhi Obama and why the persecution of the infidels (heretics) will continue. It's a global agenda, a global interfaith efforts under the UN General Assembly Resolution 64/81 to destroy the old world and to bring a new one under global slavery and genocide.

Written by UPF International

Thursday, January 1, 2015

H.M. King Abdullah II of Jordan

In support of UN General Assembly Resolution 64/81 on the Promotion of interreligious and intercultural dialogue, understanding, and cooperation for peace, adopted 7 December 2009, and the proposal introduced by H.M. King Abdullah II of Jordan for the annual celebration of World Interfaith Harmony Week, the Universal Peace Federation issued this statement in support of interfaith efforts to address critical global problems:

World peace can be fully accomplished only when the wisdom and efforts of the world’s religious leaders are combined cooperatively and respectfully with the endeavors of national political leaders. Absent the recognition of spiritual principles, the world has drifted increasingly toward analyses and prescriptions that are materialistic and secular in nature. In so doing, we have lost sight of the profound wisdom to be found in humanity’s spiritual heritage.

Global institutions must be built on a foundation that takes into account the full potential of the human being, not only as a political, economic, and social being, but also as a spiritual being with spiritual needs and a capacity for spiritual wisdom and insight. The legacy of the world’s great saints, prophets, sages, and spiritual leaders cannot be denied or discounted without ignoring what is most fundamental about the human being.

In too many ways the history of religion has been marked by narrow sectarianism, strife, and competitive struggle with other faiths, all to the detriment of the cherished goals and teachings of the founders and scriptures. This cannot continue. The need to eliminate corruption, selfishness, and bad governance applies not only to all nations but also to all of the world’s religions.

Lasting peace depends on cooperative partnerships between governments and religions, as well as NGOs and representatives of the private sector. The United Nations can benefit from a council of religious and spiritual leaders to bring broad vision and wisdom to the effort to address critical global problems. International conferences, publications, networking, and on-the-ground activism are mechanisms for interfaith cooperation and lay a foundation for spiritual renewal at the United Nations.

FRIEND SUNDAY PROVIDES THE PERFECT OUTREACH OPPORTUNITY FOR CHURCHES

"friend" to church = submit to the catholic Sabbath were you can become more close to God but "friend", like in social club. You will see that soon, the Holy Sabbath of the God Almighty will be criminalize by decree by the Pope himself.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., Feb. 4, 2015 /Christian Newswire/ -- Over 3,000 churches nationwide are expected to participate in Friend Sunday 2015 (www.friendsunday.com). Outreach, Inc., the nation's leading provider of church communications resources, developed this initiative to equip churches of all sizes and denominations in providing their members with the perfect opportunity to invite a "friend" to church. This year's annual Friend Sunday event is slated for March 1st.

"The goal of Friend Sunday is to empower churches to help their members become inviters," said Scott Evans, founder and CEO of Outreach, Inc. "The latest Barna research shows that 43% of Americans are now un-churched, and another 8% attend sporadically," Evans continued. "We want to help churches continue to reach their communities by hosting a special Sunday that lets people know they are welcome in church."

90% of surveyed churches that participated last year said that having a special day for this particular purpose was important to help motivate people to invite friends and family to church. Churches experienced an average 35% attendance increase on that day, which churches can then build upon throughout the remainder of the year.

Rev. Dr. Samuel Rodriguez, President of the NHCLC/CONELA and Lead Pastor, New Season Christian Worship Center, Sacramento, CA, said, "Friend Sunday offers local Christ following communities an opportunity to intentionally create space for the most important individuals in our communities; the unreached."

There is no cost to join the Friend Sunday movement, and churches may join the roster at www.friendsunday.com that helps people locate participating churches. A new church kit is also available for purchase that includes invitational videos, a planning guide, web and social media graphics, invitation samples, a sermon, and more.

More information is available at www.friendsunday.com, the Friend Sunday You Tube Channel, and the Facebook page.

EGYPTIAN PRESIDENT CALLS FOR "RELIGIOUS REVOLUTION" IN ISLAM

4-STAR ADMIRAL SLAMS OBAMA : MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD INFILTRADED ALL OF OUR NATIONAL SECURITY AGENCIES

Very important at 6.15mtes were the admiral tells that President El-Sissi is asking, on new years day, standing before all leading sunni clerics calls for a reformation of Islam. And then He went to celebrate a christian mass at the Coptic church and pledge to rebuild al the churches. The Coptic church is part of this great Babylon of Rome and president El Sissi is part of it. We all know that the agenda of the Jesuit Pope and His church is to destroy this world, so, we can clearly see the coming agenda. What president El Sissi is telling us is pure fable and lies. The destruction is now taking place everywhere and it was decide long time ago. The global reformation of Islam, we can see each day is on his way, and is support by the UFP, the World Council of Churches, the Vatican, governments, NGO's and private sectors.

Wants to displace violent jihad

Abdel Fattah al-Sisi / AP

BY: Abraham Rabinovich
January 4, 2015 12:10 pm

JERUSALEM—In a speech on New Year’s day, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi called for a “religious revolution” in Islam that would displace violent jihad from the center of Muslim discourse.

“Is it possible that 1.6 billion people (Muslims worldwide) should want to kill the rest of the world’s population—that is, 7 billion people—so that they themselves may live?” he asked. “Impossible.”

Speaking to an audience of religious scholars celebrating the birth of Islam’s prophet, Mohammed, he called on the religious establishment to lead the fight for moderation in the Muslim world. “You imams (prayer leaders) are responsible before Allah. The entire world—I say it again, the entire world—is waiting for your next move because this umma (a word that can refer either to the Egyptian nation or the entire Muslim world) is being torn, it is being destroyed, it is being lost—and it is being lost by our own hands.”

He was speaking in Al-Azhar University in Cairo, widely regarded as the leading world center for Islamic learning.

“The corpus of texts and ideas that we have made sacred over the years, to the point that departing from them has become almost impossible, is antagonizing the entire world. You cannot feel it if you remain trapped within this mindset. You must step outside yourselves and reflect on it from a more enlightened perspective.”

Sisi was a little known general when he was appointed over the heads of fellow officers in 2012 as commander of the Egyptian army by then President Mohammed Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood. The religiosity of Sisi was said then to have been one of the reasons for the choice. However, when a popular uprising broke out the following year, Sisi swiftly ousted Morsi from power and brought charges against him, including conspiring to commit terrorist acts together with Hamas and other Islamic groups. The Muslim Brotherhood itself was banned.

When new elections were held last May, Sisi, now a civilian, won a resounding victory.

Although the Muslim Brotherhood and its Hamas supporters have been Sisi’s principal targets since assuming power, his talk made it clear that his concern over radical Islam extends to the entire Muslim world, particularly adherents of the Islamic State, and the non-Muslim world beyond.

“We have to think hard about what we are facing,” he said. “It’s inconceivable that the thinking that we hold most sacred should cause the entire Islamic world to be a source of anxiety, danger, killing, and destruction for the rest of the world. Impossible.”

Manila, Philippines - Four hundred participants from 28 nations took part in the first ever Asian Summit organized by UPF.

The summit, titled “Toward Peace, Security and Human Development in the Asia Pacific Region,” was held in the Manila Hotel in Manila, the capital of the Philippines, from Jan. 30 to Feb. 1, 2015.

Dignitaries came from many Asian nations and from other regions of the world. Philippine dignitaries included His Excellency Joseph Ejercito Estrada, the former president of the Philippines, who is currently the Manila City mayor.

Other dignitaries were former Prime Minister of Nepal, His Excellency Madhav K. Nepal; former Deputy Prime Minister of Nepal, Honorable Sujata Koirala; five-time Speaker of the Philippine House of Representatives, Honorable Jose C. De Venecia Jr., and many other distinguished leaders in the fields of politics, diplomacy, religion, academia, business, government and civil society.

The 400 participants included 121 foreign delegates, including those from UPF International. Twelve embassies and consulates were represented. Notable was also the presence of 27 agencies and organizations from the print media, TV and radio, including Korean media.

The Opening Plenary with Dr. Thomas Walsh, president of UPF International, as the emcee, started with an interfaith prayer from representative religious leaders and was followed by the Opening Message from Dr. Chung Sik Yong, regional chair of UPF-Asia. His Excellency Madhav K. Nepal gave the Keynote Address and was also conferred the prestigious Leadership and Good Governance Award by UPF. His Excellency Nepal said, “My appreciation justly goes to the Universal Peace Federation that has organized this summit for the efforts it has relentlessly made for the promotion of world peace, understanding and tolerance among human beings through interfaith dialogue among cultures, religions and civilizations of Asia.”

The Chairman’s Address was given by Dr. Chang Shik Yang, international chair of UPF. Manila Mayor Joseph Ejercito Estrada delivered a special message, amusing the audience when he said, “Although I am an ‘ex-convict,’ I believe I am in the very good company of many other ‘ex-convicts’ like Nelson Mandela of South Africa, Aung San Suu Kyi of Myanmar, among others.” He further said, “Also Rev. Dr. Sun Myung Moon, the founder of UPF, was imprisoned because of his conviction to stand up for his beliefs, by going against tyranny in his homeland and because of following God’s will.”

His Excellency Estrada and His Excellency Madhav Nepal both lauded the Universal Peace Federation and its founders, Dr. and Mrs. Moon, during interviews conducted by the Korean media after the Opening Plenary.

Speakers in the next session, entitled “Building a Roadmap to Sustainable Peace in the Asia Pacific Region,” were Hon. Sujata Koirala, former deputy prime minister of Nepal; Hon. Jose De Venecia Jr., five-time speaker of the Philippine House of Representatives; and Professor Thomas Hwang, UPF special advisor to the Middle East. Dr. Robert Kittel, the Education Director of UPF-Asia, served as the moderator for the session.

The afternoon session, entitled “The Impact of Interfaith Cooperation and Harmony toward Peace in Asia and the World,” was held in celebration of the United Nations World Interfaith Harmony Week. This session had Rev. Tanya Edwards, an American Christian minister, as moderator, and the speakers were Dr. Thomas Walsh, president of UPF International; Father Eliseo Mercado representing Christianity; Ambassador Ashok Sajjanhar representing Hinduism; Hon. Sultan Pax Mangudadatu, representing Islam; and Mr. Sok Setha, representing Buddhism. The session concluded with a heartwarming ceremony of interfaith brotherhood and sisterhood between religious leaders. The “brothers and sisters” hugged each other onstage to the applause and appreciation of all.

The last session in the afternoon was entitled “Peace and Development: The Role of Media and Education.” It was moderated by Dr. Felicitas Sicam from the Professors World Peace Academy, Philippines. The presenters for the session were Dr. Robert Kittel of UPF-Asia, Dr. Reuben Alagaran III from Miriam College in the Philippines, and Mrs. Shova Gyawali, director of Nepal Republic Media.

In the evening there was a gala dinner in order to honor and remember the life and legacy of the founders of UPF and celebrate the anniversary of their birth. Another highlight of the evening was the first-ever PEACE Awards for the media in the Philippines.

On the concluding day of the Asian Summit, February 1, 2015, the first session, “The Founders’ Legacy: World Peace through True Love,” saw Rev. Kevin Thompson of the Family Federation for World Peace-U.S.A. as the moderator and Dr. Thomas G. Walsh, president of UPF International, and Hon. Ek Nath Dhakal, former minister and current member of the Parliament in Nepal, as speakers. The next session was entitled “Strengthening of Families, Rebuilding the Nations, Creating a World of Peace,” which highlighted the lifelong mission of Dr. and Mrs. Moon to realize an ideal world based on ideal families. Bishop Joy Theriot, president of the Filipino International Community Association in the U.S.A., was the moderator and the speakers were Bishop Reynaldo Cristobal from the Philippines and Mrs. Ursula McLackland, UPF-Asia secretary general. The session concluded with a marriage rededication ceremony.

Before the participants joined the Interfaith Peace Blessing Ceremony in Marikina City that afternoon, the summit concluded with a Closing Luncheon, at which Dr. Lek Thaveetermsakul, vice chair of UPF-Asia, served as the master of ceremonies. Representatives from the audience were called to share their responses. Several delegates were also awarded Ambassador for Peace certificates in the closing program.

There were many hugs and smiles even long after the program had ended. One of the delegates said, “Now I could catch the vision of UPF and its founders. I need to work on the local level to reach out to other religious organizations in my area, when I go back, instead of just thinking of my own congregation and not thinking of working together with others.”

Founders’ Birth Anniversary Memorial Banquet and PEACE Awards

The gala dinner of the Asian Summit commemorated the joint birthday of the UPF founders, Dr. Sun Myung Moon and Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, and celebrated their life and legacy for the world. A video was shown about the 30th anniversary of The Washington Times which exemplified the founders’ recognition of the media as powerful agents of change, especially in the pursuit of peace. Dr. Chung Sik Yong, regional chair of UPF-Asia, gave the Welcome Remarks, testifying about the founders’ initiatives in the field of media. He then urged the media people and awardees present to make a genuine commitment to bring about a world of true and lasting peace and happiness for all.

Because Philippine Congresswoman Gina De Venecia was ill, her message was read by her daughter, Ms. Carissa Cruz-Evangelista. Mrs. De Venecia testified how the founders, whom she called “Papa Moon and Mama Moon,” saved her from depression and grief after she lost her youngest daughter in an unfortunate accident. She said, “Dr. Moon’s teachings have had a transformative impact on me and on millions of people in various parts of the world. Almost three years after his death, we still see his ideologies as galvanizing elements in restoring the faith and the hopes that have been lost in the midst of cynicism. That’s why tonight, those of us who still struggle with the void he left behind still find the resolve to move on by gathering together, not only to celebrate his life, but also to carry on his enduring legacy of faith in ‘One Family under God.’”

The PEACE Awards ceremony followed after dinner. There was excitement in the audience as the awards ceremony started.

The PEACE Awards is a pilot project spearheaded by UPF in the Philippines together with Asian Peace and Unity Corps (APUC) and the Integrity Circles Movement. The concept of the PEACE (People’s Empowerment for the Advancement of Communities and Environment) Awards is to give recognition to media practitioners who have made exemplary contributions for the advancement of peace, community development and environmental protection. The awards focus especially on unheralded media personalities and organizations. There were 16 winners in the four categories of media, namely, print, TV, radio and social media. Then two recipients received special awards: the Integrity in Action Award and the Patriot of the Nation Award. The PEACE Awards were conceptualized by Mr. Dan Villa, the former convener of the Advertisement Congress in the Philippines, who is actively supporting UPF-Philippines.

It was a successful program fully backed by media people. The delegates of the Asian Summit took part in the awards night with Dr. Chang Shik Yang, Dr. Thomas Walsh, Dr. Chung Sik Yong and Rev. Julius Malicdem conferring the trophies to the winners. The evening program concluded with the recitation of the Pledge of Commitment of all present for advancing the cause for true and lasting peace followed by three cheers.

The PEACE Awards opened a way to build stronger relationships with several media groups that can help in the advancement of the founders’ vision and have an influence on the society.

Marikina City, Philippines - “Let’s pray for perfect weather on the day of the Interfaith Peace Blessing.” True enough, heaven answered their prayers.

On Feb. 1, 2015, on a cloudy day, without rain or very hot weather, the biggest Interfaith Peace Blessing in the Philippines was held at the Marikina Sports Complex in Marikina City in the eastern part of Manila. An estimated 150,000 people, garbed in white, trooped their way to Marikina City, coming from all over Metro Manila and neighboring provinces. “The jeepneys filled with people in white just keep on coming,” said one of the staff. From as early as 9 in the morning, participants started to arrive for the Blessing and continued until around 3 in the afternoon. It was amazing to see the participants lined up and entering in an orderly manner. “I cried several times!” said one person who saw how the whole sports complex was filled with people.

“All the couples in their white clothes! You look so noble and angelic. It feels as if we are in the true Garden of Eden: the garden of pure love and boundless joy!” said Dr. Sun Jin Moon, who delivered the Blessing Address in behalf of her parents, UPF Founders Dr. Sun Myung Moon and Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon. She said further, “Today is a glorious day. From this moment forward you stand in a new relationship with God and with one another. Today and for eternity you are a precious, complete couple. Your beloved spouse is your counterpart on the path to realizing God’s ideal of true love. In your eternal unity as a couple you resemble our Heavenly Parent.” Such beautiful words of encouragement for the participating couples!

Distinguished leaders from the Philippines and other nations, in particular the delegates from the Asian Summit in Manila City that had just finished, took part in the historic event which had the theme “Strengthening the Families, Rebuilding the Nations, Creating a World of Lasting Peace.”

Former Prime Minister of Nepal, His Excellency Madhav K. Nepal, delivered a Congratulatory Message. Five-time Speaker of the Philippine House of Representatives, Honorable Jose De Venecia Jr., also delivered a very dynamic Congratulatory Message. He then encouraged Prime Minister Nepal to organize a large-scale Interfaith Peace Blessing event in the nation where the highest peak of the world is located: Nepal. The last to give his message was American evangelist Bishop Jesse Edwards, who testified that his own marriage had become more exciting and filled with greater love after Dr. and Mrs. Moon had bestowed the Marriage Blessing upon them. He said he wished that all couples who came to attend the Blessing would experience a renewed and much stronger love as couples.

The Vice Mayor of Marikina City, Honorable Jose Fabian Cadiz, representing Mayor Del De Guzman, welcomed all the participants. He expressed the full support of the Marikina City government for the noble activities being carried out by UPF around the world, especially in regard to the strengthening of marriages and families.

Before the event began, there was a pre-program of entertainment, starting from 2 p.m. The students of the International Peace Leadership College (IPLC) performed a very energetic Tongil Moo Do martial arts demonstration. The angelic pupils of Sun Hwa International Academy presented a traditional Korean fan dance to the delight of the audience. Later they also danced the very popular K-pop dance. One of the staff preparing for the event, Ms. Marve Villamero, rendered a beautiful song which drew cheers from the audience. Then Dr. Robert Kittel, the UPF-Asia education director, introduced a way in which young people can save their nation. He challenged the audience to stand up for purity before marriage and fidelity after marriage. He then called two youth representatives to lead the recitation of the Pure Love Pledge. The whole stadium and sports complex erupted when in unison, everyone shouted the pledge at the top of their voice while standing and raising their right hand. Also part of the pre-program was a short lecture explaining the significance of the Interfaith Peace Blessing ceremony.

The main event started at around 4 p.m., with Rev. Julius Malicdem, UPF special advisor to the Philippines, serving as the emcee. First, the Water of Harmony ceremony and the Universal Prayer for Peace were led by representative religious leaders from various faiths and traditions. The Blessing ceremony started with the entrance of 24 attendant couples. Dr. and Mrs. Chung Sik Yong, regional chair for UPF-Asia and his wife, officiated the ceremony.

After the proclamation of the Blessing, a congratulatory song, “When You Believe,” was offered by Professor Agnes Barredo Fenoli.

The event continued with a heart-moving ceremony to offer prayer requests from the families and couples who participated in the Blessing. While a sea of candles were lit, the song “The Prayer” was performed by Professor Agnes Barredo Fenoli and Mr. Elijah John Marquez. With all the dignitaries on stage led by Dr. Sun Jin Moon and her husband, Mr. In Sup Park, with Dr. and Mrs. Chung Sik Yong and the representative religious leaders all holding their candles, a special prayer was then offered by Bishop Jesse Edwards which echoed all over the venue. Tears fell as the prayer requests were offered up to Heaven and also prayers were offered for all the victims of calamities and conflicts in the Philippines.

Shouts of “Eog mansei (Mabuhay)” then echoed throughout the venue, followed by fireworks and showers of confetti to conclude the Interfaith Peace Blessing.

CHURCH OF ENGLAND VANQUISHES SATAN : REFERENCES TO DEVIL REMOVED FROM SERVICES TO MAKE THEM ‘ACCESSIBLE’

John Bingham, The Telegraph | February 13, 2015 | Last Updated: Feb 13 11:57 AM ET

The Book of Revelation speaks of the Devil being vanquished and cast into a pit of fire and brimstone at the end of the world.

Yesterday, however, the Church of England consigned Satan to a decidedly less dramatic fate – being quietly designated as an optional extra.

Instead of requiring an apocalyptic battle between the forces of good and evil, the move was approved with a polite show of hands at the General Synod, the Church’s decision-making body, which has been meeting in Westminster.

Members voted to approve an alternative baptism liturgy with all references to the Devil removed, as part of a drive to make services “accessible” to those unused to attending church.
pullquote a écrit:

Those who work with young people gave consistent advice that references to the Devil are likely to be misunderstood in today’s culture

Following a consultation process, a committee of liturgical experts ruled that the inclusion of Satan as “personified evil” was “unhelpful” as it was likely to be “misunderstood” by young people.

The word “fight” has also been removed from the liturgy to give the services a more pacifist tone.

An earlier draft abandoned references to sin, but it was reinstated after complaints from churchgoers who said the new wording was “bland,” “dumbed down” and “nothing short of dire.”

Those who wish to retain references to violent combat against the Prince of Darkness will still be able to opt for the baptism liturgy in the Church of England’s main service book, Common Worship, in which those being baptized, or in most cases their parents and godparents, are urged to “fight valiantly as a disciple of Christ against sin, the world and the Devil.”

Despite the subject matter, there was little fury in the tone of the debate, which approved the new texts without dissent.

The closest the mood came to condemnation was when Synod members tutted in mock outrage when one parish priest, the Rev Charlotte Gale, from Coventry, admitted that she had already used the new wording in services, even though they had not yet been approved.

In the current baptism service, the priest asks the parents and godparents: “Do you reject the Devil and all rebellion against God?” to which they reply: “I reject them.” The priest then asks whether they “renounce the deceit and corruption of evil” and “repent of the sins that separate us from God and neighbour.”

In the new wording they are asked to “turn away from sin” and “reject evil.” They are also asked merely to “stand bravely” against the forces of evil.

The Bishop of Truro, the Rt. Rev. Timothy Thornton, who oversaw the revision process, said: “This is seen as a posture of confident resistance rather than an aggressive act and it deliberately stops short of the word ‘fight.’

“Those who work with young people gave consistent advice that references to the Devil are likely to be misunderstood in today’s culture.”

Canon Dr Chris Sugden, a leading conservative in the Church, also welcomed the alternative texts. “The issue is accessibility of language and also understanding by those for whom these texts are intended,” he said. “Nothing has changed in the doctrine of the Church of England, nothing has changed in our Common Worship services and practices.”

CHURCH OF ENGLAND FINDS SOME SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVIL AS IT DOWNPLAYS SATAN IN BID TO MODERNIZE

The Telegraph | July 14, 2014 12:22 PM ET

The Church of England is ditching cassocks – and even the Devil – as its drive to modernize gathers momentum.

Vicars will be allowed to conduct communion services in more casual clothing, including jeans, after the Church agreed this weekend to review existing rules on clerical vestments.

The General Synod has also backed an alternative baptism service which leaves out mention of the Devil, in an attempt to appeal to people who have no religious background.

The Rt Rev Robert Paterson, Bishop of Sodor and Man, said the change was needed because many people now viewed Satan as nothing more than a “cartoon-like character.”

But this has not pleased all of the faithful. Alison Ruoff, a senior member of the General Synod, said: “I want and beg you to bring back the Devil.”

The Synod, meeting in York, voted to begin the process of relaxing canon law to make traditional vestments optional for some formal services.

Supporters of the move who include the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Rev Justin Welby, hope that allowing more clergy to adopt casual clothing will attract more members and encourage the growth of new “alternative” congregations meeting in cafes, pubs and even at outdoor venues.

But opponents of the change warned that abandoning obligatory robes would simply leave damage the dignity of the Church and leave it looking “slovenly”.

The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, whose own approach to clerical dress included cutting up his dog collar on live television, cautioned against embarking on lengthy revision of rules, which he said were already flexible.

RelatedThere is no rule specifically requiring clergy to wear dog collars but canon law does insist on robes while priests are administering the Eucharist or conducting morning and evening prayers at Sunday services.

Synod members voted overwhelmingly to revise the canon after hearing accounts of growing congregation in churches which adopt informal styles.

The Rev Christopher Hobbs, who tabled the motion, said that while he liked wearing robes they were not suitable for all settings.

“For Holy Communion there is no flexibility,” he said.

“It makes no difference whether it is cafe-style, in a pub, outside in a field, in a hotel lounge or lobby – surplice and alb is required, with scarf or stole.”

But there was an outburst of laughter and applause as a nattily dressed Rev Neil Patterson, a rector from Herefordshire, stood up to address the Synod wearing red trousers, a mustard-coloured jacket and striped shirt.

He told the gathering: “I chose to dress this evening as a demonstration of some of the risks of allowing clergy to indulge their personality too freely.”

HOMILY OF HIS HOLINESS POPE FRANCIS

Vatican Basilica
Sunday, 15 February 2015

[Multimedia]

“Lord, if you choose, you can make me clean”… Jesus, moved with compassion, stretched out his hand and touched him, and said: “I do choose. Be made clean!” (Mk 1:40-41). The compassion of Jesus! That com-passion which made him draw near to every person in pain! Jesus does not hold back; instead, he gets involved in people’s pain and their need… for the simple reason that he knows and wants to show com-passion, because he has a heart unashamed to have “compassion”.

“Jesus could no longer go into a town openly, but stayed in the country; and people came to him from every quarter” (Mk 1:45). This means that Jesus not only healed the leper but also took upon himself the marginalization enjoined by the law of Moses (cf. Lev 13:1-2, 45-46). Jesus is unafraid to risk sharing in the suffering of others; he pays the price of it in full (cf. Is 53:4).

Compassion leads Jesus to concrete action: he reinstates the marginalized! These are the three key concepts that the Church proposes in today’s liturgy of the word: the compassion of Jesus in the face of marginalization and his desire to reinstate.

Marginalization: Moses, in his legislation regarding lepers, says that they are to be kept alone and apart from the community for the duration of their illness. He declares them: “unclean!” (cf. Lev 13:1-2, 45-46).

Imagine how much suffering and shame lepers must have felt: physically, socially, psychologically and spiritually! They are not only victims of disease, but they feel guilty about it, punished for their sins! Theirs is a living death; they are like someone whose father has spit in his face (cf. Num 12:14).

In addition, lepers inspire fear, contempt and loathing, and so they are abandoned by their families, shunned by other persons, cast out by society. Indeed, society rejects them and forces them to live apart from the healthy. It excludes them. So much so that if a healthy person approached a leper, he would be punished severely, and often be treated as a leper himself.

True, the purpose of this rule was “to safeguard the healthy”, “to protect the righteous”, and, in order to guard them from any risk, to eliminate “the peril” by treating the diseased person harshly. As the high priest Caiaphas exclaimed: “It is better to have one man die for the people than to have the whole nation destroyed” (Jn 11:50).

Reinstatement: Jesus revolutionizes and upsets that fearful, narrow and prejudiced mentality. He does not abolish the law of Moses, but rather brings it to fulfillment (cf. Mt 5:17). He does so by stating, for example, that the law of retaliation is counterproductive, that God is not pleased by a Sabbath observance which demeans or condemns a man. He does so by refusing to condemn the sinful woman, but saves her from the blind zeal of those prepared to stone her ruthlessly in the belief that they were applying the law of Moses. Jesus also revolutionizes consciences in the Sermon on the Mount (cf. Mt 5), opening new horizons for humanity and fully revealing God’s “logic”. The logic of love, based not on fear but on freedom and charity, on healthy zeal and the saving will of God. For “God our Saviour desires everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth” (1 Tim 2:3-4). “I desire mercy and not sacrifice” (Mt 12:7; Hos 6:6).

Jesus, the new Moses, wanted to heal the leper. He wanted to touch him and restore him to the community without being “hemmed in” by prejudice, conformity to the prevailing mindset or worry about becoming infected. Jesus responds immediately to the leper’s plea, without waiting to study the situation and all its possible consequences! For Jesus, what matters above all is reaching out to save those far off, healing the wounds of the sick, restoring everyone to God’s family! And this is scandalous to some people!

Jesus is not afraid of this kind of scandal! He does not think of the closed-minded who are scandalized even by a work of healing, scandalized before any kind of openness, by any action outside of their mental and spiritual boxes, by any caress or sign of tenderness which does not fit into their usual thinking and their ritual purity. He wanted to reinstate the outcast, to save those outside the camp (cf. Jn 10).

There are two ways of thinking and of having faith: we can fear to lose the saved and we can want to save the lost. Even today it can happen that we stand at the crossroads of these two ways of thinking. The thinking of the doctors of the law, which would remove the danger by casting out the diseased person, and the thinking of God, who in his mercy embraces and accepts by reinstating him and turning evil into good, condemnation into salvation and exclusion into proclamation.

These two ways of thinking are present throughout the Church’s history: casting off and reinstating. Saint Paul, following the Lord’s command to bring the Gospel message to the ends of the earth (cf. Mt 28:19), caused scandal and met powerful resistance and great hostility, especially from those who demanded unconditional obedience to the Mosaic law, even on the part of converted pagans. Saint Peter, too, was bitterly criticized by the community when he entered the house of the pagan centurion Cornelius (cf. Acts 10).

The Church’s way, from the time of the Council of Jerusalem, has always always been the way of Jesus, the way of mercy and reinstatement. This does not mean underestimating the dangers of letting wolves into the fold, but welcoming the repentant prodigal son; healing the wounds of sin with courage and determination; rolling up our sleeves and not standing by and watching passively the suffering of the world. The way of the Church is not to condemn anyone for eternity; to pour out the balm of God’s mercy on all those who ask for it with a sincere heart. The way of the Church is precisely to leave her four walls behind and to go out in search of those who are distant, those essentially on the “outskirts” of life. It is to adopt fully God’s own approach, to follow the Master who said: “Those who are well have no need of the physician, but those who are sick; I have come to call, not the righteous but sinners” (Lk 5:31-32).
In healing the leper, Jesus does not harm the healthy. Rather, he frees them from fear. He does not endanger them, but gives them a brother. He does not devalue the law but instead values those for whom God gave the law. Indeed, Jesus frees the healthy from the temptation of the “older brother” (cf. Lk 15:11-32), the burden of envy and the grumbling of the labourers who bore “the burden of the day and the heat” (cf. Mt 20:1-16).

In a word: charity cannot be neutral, antiseptic, indifferent, lukewarm or impartial! Charity is infectious, it excites, it risks and it engages! For true charity is always unmerited, unconditional and gratuitous! (cf. 1 Cor 13). Charity is creative in finding the right words to speak to all those considered incurable and hence untouchable. Finding the right words… Contact is the language of genuine communication, the same endearing language which brought healing to the leper. How many healings can we perform if only we learn this language of contact! The leper, once cured, became a messenger of God’s love. The Gospel tells us that “he went out and began to proclaim it freely and to spread the word” (cf. Mk 1:45).

Dear new Cardinals, this is the “logic”, the mind of Jesus, and this is the way of the Church. Not only to welcome and reinstate with evangelical courage all those who knock at our door, but to go out and seek, fearlessly and without prejudice, those who are distant, freely sharing what we ourselves freely received. “Whoever says: ‘I abide in [Christ]’, ought to walk just as he walked” (1 Jn 2:6). Total openness to serving others is our hallmark, it alone is our title of honour!

Consider carefully that, in these days when you have become Cardinals, we have asked Mary, Mother of the Church, who herself experienced marginalization as a result of slander (cf. Jn 8:41) and exile (cf. Mt 2:13-23), to intercede for us so that we can be God’s faithful servants. May she - our Mother - teach us to be unafraid of tenderly welcoming the outcast; not to be afraid of tenderness. How often we fear tenderness! May Mary teach us not to be afraid of tenderness and compassion. May she clothe us in patience as we seek to accompany them on their journey, without seeking the benefits of worldly success. May she show us Jesus and help us to walk in his footsteps.

Dear new Cardinals, my brothers, as we look to Jesus and our Mother, I urge you to serve the Church in such a way that Christians - edified by our witness - will not be tempted to turn to Jesus without turning to the outcast, to become a closed caste with nothing authentically ecclesial about it. I urge you to serve Jesus crucified in every person who is emarginated, for whatever reason; to see the Lord in every excluded person who is hungry, thirsty, naked; to see the Lord present even in those who have lost their faith, or turned away from the practice of their faith, or say that they are atheists; to see the Lord who is imprisoned, sick, unemployed, persecuted; to see the Lord in the leper – whether in body or soul - who encounters discrimination! We will not find the Lord unless we truly accept the marginalized! May we always have before us the image of Saint Francis, who was unafraid to embrace the leper and to accept every kind of outcast. Truly, dear brothers, the Gospel of the marginalized is where our credibility is at stake, is discovered and is revealed!
