FULL-SCALE INVASION AS THE UNITED STATES DEPLOYS TROOPS IN 35 AFRICAN COUNTRIES

February 5, 2013 Newstime AfricaAround Africa

By John Pilger, TRANSCEND* - A full-scale invasion of Africa is under way. The United States is deploying troops in 35 African countries, beginning with Libya, Sudan, Algeria and Niger. Reported by Associated Press on Christmas Day, this was missing from most Anglo-American media.

The invasion has almost nothing to do with “Islamism”, and almost everything to do with the acquisition of resources, notably minerals, and an accelerating rivalry with China.

Unlike China, the US and its allies are prepared to use a degree of violence demonstrated in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen and Palestine.

As in the cold war, a division of labour requires that western journalism and popular culture provide the cover of a holy war against a “menacing arc” of Islamic extremism, no different from the bogus “red menace” of a worldwide communist conspiracy.

Reminiscent of the Scramble for Africa in the late 19th century, the US African Command (Africom) has built a network of supplicants among collaborative African regimes eager for American bribes and armaments.

US Operation African Endeavor

Last year, Africom staged Operation African Endeavor, with the armed forces of 34 African nations taking part, commanded by the US military. Africom’s “soldier to soldier” doctrine embeds US officers at every level of command from general to warrant officer. Only pith helmets are missing.

It is as if Africa’s proud history of liberation, from Patrice Lumumba to Nelson Mandela, is consigned to oblivion by a new master’s black colonial elite whose “historic mission”, warned Frantz Fanon half a century ago, is the promotion of “a capitalism rampant though camouflaged”.

A striking example is the eastern Congo, a treasure trove of strategic minerals, controlled by an atrocious rebel group known as the M23, which in turn is run by Uganda and Rwanda, the proxies of Washington.

Long planned as a “mission” for Nato, not to mention the ever-zealous French, whose colonial lost causes remain on permanent standby, the war on Africa became urgent in 2011 when the Arab world appeared to be liberating itself from the Mubaraks and other clients of Washington and Europe.

Hysteria in Imperial Capitals

The hysteria this caused in imperial capitals cannot be exaggerated. Nato bombers were dispatched not to Tunis or Cairo but Libya, where Muammar Gaddafi ruled over Africa’s largest oil reserves. With the Libyan city of Sirte reduced to rubble, the British SAS directed the “rebel” militias in what has since been exposed as a racist bloodbath.

The indigenous people of the Sahara, the Tuareg, whose Berber fighters Gaddafi had protected, fled home across Algeria to Mali, where the Tuareg have been claiming a separate state since the 1960s.

As the ever watchful Patrick Cockburn points out, it is this local dispute, not al-Qaida, that the West fears most in northwest Africa… “poor though the Tuareg may be, they are often living on top of great reserves of oil, gas, uranium and other valuable minerals”.

The United Kingdom

Almost certainly the consequence of a French/US attack on Mali on 13 January, a siege at a gas complex in Algeria ended bloodily, inspiring a 9/11 moment in David Cameron. The former Carlton TV PR man raged about a “global threat” requiring “decades” of western violence. He meant implantation of the west’s business plan for Africa, together with the rape of multi-ethnic Syria and the conquest of independent Iran.

Cameron has now ordered British troops to Mali, and sent an RAF drone, while his verbose military chief, General Sir David Richards, has addressed “a very clear message to jihadists worldwide: don’t dangle and tangle with us. We will deal with it robustly” – exactly what jihadists want to hear.

The trail of blood of British army terror victims, all Muslims, their “systemic” torture cases currently heading to court, add necessary irony to the general’s words. I once experienced Sir David’s “robust” ways when I asked him if he had read the courageous Afghan feminist Malalai Joya’s description of the barbaric behaviour of westerners and their clients in her country. “You are an apologist for the Taliban” was his reply. (He later apologised).

These bleak comedians are straight out of Evelyn Waugh and allow us to feel the bracing breeze of history and hypocrisy. The “Islamic terrorism” that is their excuse for the enduring theft of Africa’s riches was all but invented by them.

“The Mujahedin of al-Qaida and the TalibanWere created bythe CIA”

There is no longer any excuse to swallow the BBC/CNN line and not know the truth. Read Mark Curtis’s Secret Affairs: Britain’s Collusion with Radical Islam (Serpent’s Tail) or John Cooley’s Unholy Wars: Afghanistan, America and International Terrorism (Pluto Press) or The Grand Chessboard by Zbigniew Brzezinski (HarperCollins) who was midwife to the birth of modern fundamentalist terror.

In effect, the mujahedin of al-Qaida and the Taliban were created by the CIA, its Pakistani equivalent, the Inter-Services Intelligence, and Britain’s MI6.

Brzezinski, President Jimmy Carter’s National Security Adviser, describes a secret presidential directive in 1979 that began what became the current “war on terror”.

For 17 years, the US deliberately cultivated, bank-rolled, armed and brainwashed jihadi extremists that “steeped a generation in violence”. Code-named Operation Cyclone, this was the “great game” to bring down the Soviet Union but brought down the Twin Towers.

Since then, the news that intelligent, educated people both dispense and ingest has become a kind of Disney journalism, fortified, as ever, by Hollywood’s licence to lie, and lie.

There is the coming Dreamworks movie on WikiLeaks, a fabrication inspired by a book of perfidious title-tattle by two enriched Guardian journalists; and there is Zero Dark Thirty, which promotes torture and murder, directed by the Oscar-winning Kathryn Bigelow, the Leni Riefenstahl of our time, promoting her master’s voice as did the Fuhrer’s pet film-maker. Such is the one-way mirror through which we barely glimpse what power does in our name.

John Pilger has won an Emmy and a BAFTA for his documentaries, which have also won numerous US and European awards. His articles appear worldwide in newspapers such as the Guardian, the Independent, the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, the Mail & Guardian (South Africa), Aftonbladet (Sweden), Il Manifesto (Italy). He writes a regular column for the New Statesman, London. In 2003, he was awarded the prestigious Sophie Prize for ’30 years of exposing injustice and promoting human rights.’ In 2009 he was awarded the Sydney Peace Prize. LA CHINE VEUT-ELLE VRAIMENT FAIRE LA GUERRE AU JAPON?

11fév

La crise sino-japonaise prend une tournure inquiétante. Explications.

SUDAN AND DARFUR REBEL GROUP SIGN CEASEFIRE UNDER UN-AFRICAN UNION AUSPICES

11 février 2013 –
The Government of Sudan and one of the main rebel factions in Darfur have signed a ceasefire agreement to move the peace process forward, the United Nations-African Union mediator announced today.

“This is a major breakthrough in the road towards a comprehensive and lasting peace accord in Darfur,” said Aichatou Mindaoudou, who is also the Acting Joint Special Representative in the UN-AU peacekeeping mission in Darfur (UNAMID).

The Government, represented by State Minister and Head of the Darfur Follow-up Office, Amin Hassan Omer, signed the ceasefire with Arko Sulaiman Dahiya, Vice Chairman and Head of Delegation from the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM), on 10 February in Doha, Qatar.

The agreement now lays the groundwork to start negotiations on other substantive issues, such as power and wealth-sharing and return of internally displaced persons and refugees.

The negotiations for the ceasefire had begun last month in Qatar under the parameters set in the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD). The DDPD forms the basis for a permanent ceasefire and comprehensive peace agreement to end the fighting that began in Darfur ten years ago, pitting government forces and allied militiamen against rebel groups.

JEM is the second rebel group to commit to the DDPD, after the Liberation and Justice Movement (LJM) signed it last year.

Following the signing, Ms. Mindaoudou congratulated both parties and said she hoped that the agreement would attract the non-signatory movements to join in the peace process.

“The road to peace is challenging and needs a great deal of resolve, perseverance and concessions from both sides,” said Ms. Mindaoudou, reiterating her commitment to continue to work with the parties to the conflict towards achieving a comprehensive peace in Darfur.

TENSION MOUNTS AS SOUTH KOREA AND US CONDUCT MILITARY DRILLS

South Korean and US navy forces complete a three-day live firing drill in the East Sea, amid nuclear threats from North Korea.

12:30PM GMT 09 Feb 2013

Pyongyang's state media said the drill showed that America and South Korea have been plotting to attack the North.

The media claimed the action was increasing the risk of conflict in the region.

North Korea has said similar things about previous drills; the allies have repeatedly said they have no intention of attacking the North.

The US stations about 28,500 troops in South Korea.

Pyongyang announced last month that it would conduct a nuclear test to protest United Nations Security Council sanctions, which were toughened after a satellite launch in December that the US and others say was a disguised test of banned missile technology.

The Council ordered North Korea in the sanctions resolution to refrain from a nuclear test or face "significant action."
Since 2003, the United States, Russia, China, Japan and South Korea have been trying to negotiate a disarmament deal with North Korea that would halt its nuclear programme.

But the North moved ahead, conducting a nuclear test in 2006 which led to UN sanctions.

The North walked away from the talks in 2009 and later that year exploded its second nuclear device, leading to additional sanctions.
So far, efforts to re-start the six-party talks have failed.

UN sanctions demand that North Korea abandon its nuclear weapons programme and stop testing or using nuclear or ballistic missile technology.

They also ban the North from importing or exporting material for nuclear and ballistic missile programmes.

HULL SWAP: INGENUITY, INNOVATION, IMPORVEMENT

By Jason Kelly

By Rear Adm. Frank Ponds
Commander, Navy Region Hawaii and Naval Surface Group Middle Pacific

This week, the guided-missile destroyer USS Halsey (DDG 97) arrives to become part of our team at Naval Surface Group Middle Pacific at Pearl Harbor. The arrival is another signal of Navy’s commitment to upgrade platforms, conserve resources and rebalance assets strategically to the Pacific.

The commanding officers and crews of USS Halsey and USS Russell (DDG 59) executed a smooth ship rotation perfectly last month in San Diego. While the ship USS Halsey is new to the Pearl Harbor waterfront, many of the crewmembers formerly served aboard USS Russell. Their families are welcoming them home this week, and we are all welcoming about two dozen new crewmembers and families to Hawaii and our ohana.

Here in Hawaii we are actively pursuing ways to significantly reduce and defer costs due to the fiscal challenges our Navy currently faces. Swapping the ship but not the Sailors, an initiative begun more than a year ago, is an innovative means of saving taxpayers approximately $35 million. Savings were achieved through economy-of-scale repairs through mid-life upgrades. Simultaneously, the hull swap provided stability to our Sailors and their families by allowing them to remain in the same homeport.

USS Halsey brings different and in some areas improved capabilities to the middle Pacific. Halsey is capable of embarking helicopters, as one example, and has improved air defense capabilities. While we honor the service and achievements of USS Russell, we look forward to the capability improvements USS Halsey represents.

USS Halsey’s namesake is Fleet Adm. William “Bull” Halsey Jr., commander of the U.S. 3rd Fleet in the Pacific War against Imperial Japan. The ship belongs in historic Pearl Harbor, where Admirals Halsey, Spruance and Nimitz once served.

USS Halsey is expected to deploy to 3rd, 7th and 5th Fleet areas of operation in support of Commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet. All of our ships in the Middle Pacific are positioned to protect strategic crossroads, to work with and reassure regional partners, to support humanitarian assistance missions, and to bring advanced combat capabilities if required.

From our strategic base here in Hawaii – center point for rebalancing to the Pacific – we are committed to maintaining warfighting readiness, operating forward and preserving freedom of the maritime domain.

Editor’s note: The 11 surface ships of MIDPAC include three guided-missile cruisers: USS Chosin (CG 65), USS Lake Erie (CG 70) and USS Port Royal (CG 73); seven guided-missile destroyers: USS Chafee (DDG 90), USS Chung-Hoon (DDG 93), USS Halsey (DDG 97), USS Hopper (DDG 70), USS Michael Murphy (DDG 112), USS O’Kane (DDG 77) and USS Paul Hamilton (DDG 60); and one guided-missile frigate: USS Reuben James (FFG 57). They are homeported at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, on Oahu, and train at Pacific Missile Range Facility, at Barking Sands, Kauai.

MILITARY WANTS "MISSION IMPOSSIBLE" SELF-DESTRUCTING DEVICES

An Army Evaluation Task Force Soldier at Fort Bliss conducts training with an unattended ground sensor. Future sensors could be smaller and vanish upon command. / U.S. Army

Self-destructing tapes from the "Mission Impossible" TV series and films served fictional spies well during the Cold War. Today, the U.S. military wants a modern version of vanishing electronics that are able to disappear upon command in the environment or a human body.

The U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is looking for such spy craft technology at a time when swarms of electronic sensors and communication devices already help U.S. troops hunt enemies, keep track of friendly forces and monitor threats from nuclear, biological or chemical weapons.

Futuristic electronics able to self-destruct upon command would help prevent devices from falling into enemy hands and littering the environment.

"The [Vanishing, Programmable Resources] program seeks to address this pervasive challenge by developing electronic systems capable of physically disappearing in a controlled, triggerable manner," DARPA said in a special notice on Jan. 25.

Disposable electronics could either degrade into environmentally harmless substances or get absorbed into the human body if they act as biomedical implants, DARPA said. The idea could fit with another DARPA project aimed at making "nanosensors" capable of monitoring or even fixing the human body like a swarm of tiny doctors.

Lab versions of vanishing electronics already include microchip components, biomedical implants and even a 64-pixel digital camera. But DARPA points out that degradable electronics based on polymeric or biologically derived materials often perform worse than traditional electronics or prove less durable -- a problem for U.S. military standards.

Researchers must also tackle the challenge of making a new generation of vanishing electronics that can self-destruct upon command, rather than simply building varieties that slowly disappear over time.

The "Vanishing, Programmable Resources" program has planned a Proposer's Day on Feb. 14 at the Capital Conference Center in Arlington, Va. -- a day for researchers and companies to find out more about DARPA's vision of the future.

AUSTRALIAN, JAPANESE AND U.S. OFFICIALS MEET FOR SECURITY AND DEFENSE COOPERATION FORUM

Officials from Australia, Japan and the United States met in Washington, Feb. 12 for the fifth Security and Defense Cooperation Forum plenary session. The meeting included discussions on trilateral political-military cooperation in areas such as humanitarian assistance/disaster relief, regional capacity development and maritime security, among other issues. The officials also exchanged views on the state of regional security affairs.

The three delegations discussed the recent North Korean nuclear test. They agreed that this highly provocative act was a clear violation of UN Security Council resolutions 1718, 1874 and 2087, as well as North Korea's own commitments under the Sept. 19, 2005 Joint Statement of the Six Party Talks. The three delegations further affirmed that North Korea’s actions undermine regional security, increase the risks of proliferation and further isolate it from the international community.

The SDCF is a regular cooperative dialogue between Australia, Japan and the United States and has been held since 2007. Assistant Secretary of State Andrew Shapiro and Assistant Secretary of Defense Mark Lippert co-chaired the forum.

Defense secretaries and ministers from Australia, Japan and the United States met last year on the margins of the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore. They plan to do so again in 2013.

BUILDING PARTNER CAPACITY SERVES U.S. INTERESTS, OFFICIALS SAY

By Amaani Lyle

American Forces Press ServiceWASHINGTON, Feb. 14, 2013 – Programs that help U.S. partners build their capabilities can be force multipliers in achieving U.S. interests, Defense Department officials told the House Armed Services Committee here today.

“The task of training, advising and partnering with foreign military and security forces has moved from the periphery of a defense strategy to become a critical skill set across our armed forces,” said Michael A. Sheehan, assistant secretary of defense for special operations and low-intensity conflict.

Sheehan said the Defense Department’s wide range of authorities in developing defense capabilities include training and equipping counterterrorism units, funding for two theaters of action against al-Qaida affiliates in Yemen and East Africa, and the Global Security Contingency Fund.

The Global Security Contingency Fund, he explained, is a joint program between DOD and the State Department that authorizes a pooled fund of up to $250 million to meet emergency security issues.

“The fund has shown promise as an additional authority to pursue our defense needs,” Sheehan said.

Sheehan also noted other authorities that enable the United States to to ensure U.S.-equipped and trained troops are properly managed by the leadership of the host countries. In the counternarcotics arena, he added, there are authorities to build partner capacity to fight organized crime and drug trafficking groups.

“[They] provide training, equipment, base operations, intelligence-sharing and other support to our counternarcotics programs,” he said. “We appreciate the flexibility of these counternarcotics authorities that also enable us to support efforts to attack the nexus of counterterrorism.”

Throughout the world, Sheehan said, these authorities put the United States in a stronger position to manage the programs, often led by special operations forces, and align them with national security priorities.

“[Special operations forces’] training, regional orientation [and] language skills make their operators very well prepared to do this type of activity,” Sheehan said.

In regions such as Afghanistan, partnership capacity has been critical, the assistant secretary said, noting that the republic of Georgia is the largest per capita International Security Assistance Force contributor in the field. “They’re now able to occupy their own battle space and play a key role in our counterinsurgency strategy,” Sheehan said.

Sheehan also noted other counterterrorism and counter-narcotics successes in the Philippines against the Abu Sayyaf group, in Yemen against al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, in Colombia against the Revolution Armed Forces of Columbia and in East Africa against al-Shabaab.

“In the coming years, we can and must build on a record of success,” Sheehan said, adding that Congress should consider extended year-to-year authorities and perhaps make them permanent.

“These programs are proven winners -- not perfect by any measure, but worthy of continued support and refinement,” he said. “We expect combined operations with capable partners to continue to be an effective way to respond to emerging security challenges WORLDWIDE.”

Army Lt. Gen. Terry Wolff, the Joint Staff’s director of strategic plans and policy, said that after a decade of war, the United States will remain committed to enduring strategic security interests in the Middle East to confront the growth of weapons of mass destruction while PROMOTING PEACE and political reform.

Across the globe, we seek to be the partner of choice,” Wolff said. In addition to partnerships in Jordan, Lebanon, Qatar and other nations, Wolff said, the United States will continue to build partnerships in the Asia-Pacific region.

Our efforts in the Asia-Pacific region are part of a synchronized … approached aimed at refreshing and reinvigorating our military … with established allies as well as other key emerging partners,” Wolff said.

Over the past several years, U.S. Pacific Command continues to improve the quality of its engagements to achieve the best training value, he added.

Pacom’s regional exercises help train not only the U.S., but partner forces, and they help reinforce our commitment to the Asia-Pacific region, improve interoperability and send a strong message to the nations across the region,” the general said.

Partnership capacity should remain steady, Wolff said, as the United States acknowledges the growing importance of the Asia-Pacific region, its developing economies and its emergence of new security threats.

“We have allies and partners who share an intent in helping us advance this COMMON SECURITY VISION,” Wolff said. “We believe that building partner capacity is a prudent investment which deepens our strategic ties and helps defend our interests in an era of diminishing resources.”

Sheehan acknowledged that foreign assistance is not always popular with the American public, particularly in an era of fiscal constraint. But these programs, he emphasized, have brought real results to national security.

“These are not foreign aid giveaways,” he said. “These efforts take many months and years to get results, and the most important measure of effectiveness is on the battlefield.”

US DRONE OPERATORS, CYBER TROOPS TO GET DISTINGUISHED MEDAL: PENTAGON

February 14, 2013 by legitgov 14 Feb 2013 The Pentagon says it is creating the Distinguished Warfare Medal that can be awarded to those US troops who launch assassination drone strikes and direct cyber attacks. The outgoing US Defense Secretary, Leon Panetta, said on Wednesday that the US drone operators and those who direct cyber attacks would be eligible to receive the medal for their direct impact on a US military operation from afar. "I've seen firsthand how modern tools, like remotely piloted platforms and cyber systems, have changed the way wars are fought," Panetta said.

Is it guy the same? I don't thing so, but if you look more closely to the

DDR initiatives - United Nations program to advance its work on the disarmament, demobilization and reintegration, process in countries emerging from armed conflict. If you look more closely, you will see that it just an other lie by the global elite who control these gangs members to distabilize countries. These control gangs members could be deploy everywhere in the world, taking a new identity, a new disguise and just be able to continue to do what their masters are waiting for. They've a lot experience in child trafficking, tortures, killing, stelling, etc.

This DDR initiatives also a trap to promote disarmament in a country.

CENTCOM, AFRICOM NOMINEES TOUT IMPORTANCE OF PARTNERSHIPS

By Karen Parrish
American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, Feb. 14, 2013 – Two generals nominated to lead U.S. combatant commands focused on the role of partnerships in national defense strategy in a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing today.

Army Gen. Lloyd J. Austin III, nominated to lead U.S. Central Command, and Army Gen. David M. Rodriguez, the president’s nominee to lead U.S. Africa Command, testified together in a confirmation hearing.

Centcom’s area of responsibility covers 20 countries in the Middle East and Southwest Asia, including Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran, Syria and Yemen. While the Centcom commander doesn’t control combat operations in Afghanistan, the command is responsible for supporting those operations.

Austin, now the Army’s vice chief of staff, told senators the war in Afghanistan remains Centcom’s top priority. President Barack Obama announced this week that 34,000 U.S. troops, about half of those now there, will leave Afghanistan over the next year.

The movement of people and equipment that will involve, Austin told senators, will be a “herculean undertaking.”

The general noted he oversaw a similar effort as commander of U.S. forces in Iraq in 2010 and 2011. If confirmed as Centcom commander, he said, “I will do everything within my power to help set the broader conditions for our success in this most important endeavor.”

Austin said the nation owes a debt of gratitude to current Centcom commander Marine Corps Gen. James N. Mattis, who will retire in March.
“General Mattis has led Central Command masterfully over these past two and a half years,” he said.

Mattis’ leadership and his team’s efforts over a decisive period “have been tremendous,” Austin said. “If confirmed, I intend to sustain and continue this important work.”

The general acknowledged Centcom’s mission is demanding.

Our national interests, and those of our allies and friends, demand vigilance,” he said, “as well as our continued commitment to … address the many challenges that exist, and to achieve and maintain stability throughout the Middle East, and South and Central Asia.”

In a complex and “extremely volatile” world, Austin said, “much of the instability and associated challenges reside in the Centcom area of responsibility.”

The role of a combatant command is to be prepared to respond to contingencies whenever they occur, he said.

“If we truly want to have an effective and lasting impact in the region, our friends and allies must be assured of our support, and our potential adversaries must understand that there will be consequences for their actions,” he said.

Austin said the years since 9/11 have demonstrated that agencies responsible for elements of national power - military, economic and diplomatic – must work together. He said he has worked closely with senior military and civilian officials across government, and with partner nations’ government and military leaders.

“I can personally attest to the effectiveness of these kinds of collaborations,” he said. “If confirmed, I will continue to cultivate my existing relationships, while pursuing additional opportunities and partnerships that will surely prove beneficial to our efforts.”

The general said while these are “historic and difficult times,” they are marked by new opportunities and a shared desire for PEACE and PROSPERITY, even in places that haven’t known them before.

“I fully appreciate that the work ahead will be great and the road will not be easy,” Austin said. “But if confirmed, I pledge to give all that I have towards our success, and ensuring the success of our allies and friends around the world, in this most worthy endeavor.”

Africom, formally established in 2008 with headquarters in Stuttgart, Germany, is the nation’s newest geographical combatant command, responsible for operations, exercises and security cooperation on the African continent.

Rodriguez now serves as head of the Army’s Forces Command. He said in a brief opening statement that if confirmed to lead Africom, he will “[work] closely with this committee, as well as all our joint, interagency, intergovernmental and multinational partners to address the challenges we face, and the opportunities to increase stability on this strategically important continent.”

Strong partnerships are key to that stability, Rodriguez said. He credited Army Gen. Carter F. Ham, the current Africom commander, with sustaining such partnerships among the 54 nations of Africa and “providing the foundation for our continued engagement across the continent and globally.”

Rodriguez said that if confirmed, he hopes to expand on the work Ham has done.

Join People's World in celebrating African American History Month with a national teleconference presentation by Prof. Jamie Wilson Tues, Feb 19, 8 pm Eastern

The black freedom struggle in the mid- to late-20th century exposed discrimination to the nation in stark terms and forced it to grapple with one of its most pressing problems, what W.E.B. Du Bois called the "color line".
In the words of professor Jame Wilson,
"The Civil Rights movement in general and Black Power movement in particular and the African American freedom struggle that began in 1619 when 20 Blacks landed on the shores of the Chesapeake leads me to think this thing we call America is an ongoing democratic experiment," said Wilson. "Black people have always sought to find their place in the movement whether it be through legislation, protest, writing or religion."
- People's World interview
African American grassroots activists, leaders, and organizations helped remap American History, forcing the nation to reexamine the basic democratic principles by which we live; forcing the country to live up to principals of its founding.

Prof. Wilson will focus in on the post-WWII black power movements and other trends in the civil rights movement.

Join us for the conversation.

The Military history of African Americans spans from the arrival of the first black slaves during the colonial history of the United States to the present day. There has been no war fought by or within the United States in which African Americans did not participate, including the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, the Mexican-American War, the Civil War, the Spanish American War, the World Wars, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Gulf War, and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as other minor conflicts.

MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD TELLS US THEY ARE IN THE UNITED STATES – ANYONE LISTENING?

Posted on February 18, 2013 by creeping

via causingfitna

The Muslim Brotherhood in America and some of the leading Islamic groups throughout the USA have been a hot button issue for some time.

Both corrupt/ignorant politicians and the media have tried repeatedly to paint any who speak of the Muslim Brotherhood as “crazies”……. that is coming to an end. The “Ikhwan” AKA “Muslim Brotherhood” has been in America long enough to plant their offspring on U.S. soil making them legal citizens even in the event that they are deported, thus the Ikhwan remains. DEPORTED Dr. Salah Sultan of Ohio is a perfect example.

In a few recent articles by Patrick Poole, and a documentary put out by Glenn Beck called “The Project”, newly found pictures of Dr. Salah Sultan made it clear he was a Muslim Brotherhood operative in the U.S.

The newly found pictures of Salah Sultan were found by ”CAUSING FITNA” while researching Kansas City Islamic groups that raised our attention through some of their actions and online activity.

We have continued to research these ties of Salah Sultan and Kansas City. Below you will see a recent picture of Dr. Salah Sultan, The Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood spiritual leader Yusuf Al-Qaradawi, and Mohammed Sultan, a Ohio State University grad, and former President of the Muslim Students Association at OSU.

Note to new readers: The Muslim Students Association or MSA “was established mainly by members of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) in January 1963 at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.

A closer look at Mohamed Sultan’s twitter feed may give some insight into the Ohio MSA and how his father raised him.

Note: The “ikhwan” is the Muslim Brotherhood.
Mohamed Sultan is a Citizen of Ohio, which the last time I checked was in the UNITED STATES…… any questions?

This is without a doubt open praise of HAMAS. The so-called LION in the picture above is none other than Khaled Mashal, a Palestinian political leader. Mashal has been the main leader of the Palestinian organization Hamas since 2004.

Note: Hamas is an Islamic terrorist organization, designated so by Bill Clinton, and one of the military wings of the Muslim Brotherhood – as stated in the Hamas Covenant.

Read that again.

As stated previously, we became more interested in the activities of the Sultan family while researching Kansas City Islamic groups. The Islamic Center of Johnson County in Overland Park, Kansas is very well acquainted with Mohammed Sultan. The picture above shows Imam of ICJC Dahee Saeed with Mohamed Sultan in Kansas City. With ICJC planning a new Mega Mosque in the Overland Park community, Kansans might want to know a bit more about this group, and if they are affiliated with the Ikhwan in any way. It should be noted that the Muslim Brotherhood have been well established in Kansas City for many years, as documented in Steve Emerson’s “Jihad in America”. A portion of that can be seen here highlighting a convention at Bartle Hall - take note that this video is posted from the youtube favorites playlist (screencapture below) of Mohammad Albadawi, a leader with the Islamic Society of Greater Kansas City, as well as a leading organizer for MAS-ICNA conventions nationwide for many years. Screencapture attached in the case that Mr. Albadawi gets clever and removes this video from playlists.

Much more, read it all and watch the videos at Causing Fitna’s blog and follow him on Twitter.

The Muslim Brotherhood has been telling us their goal for North America since 1991, An Explanatory Memorandum on the General Strategic Goal for the Brotherhood in North America.

If you know anyone in the Kansas City area, forward this information to them.

TOP U.S. TERRORIST GROUP: THE FBI

By David Swanson
Global Research, February 23, 2013
War is a crime

Region: USA
Theme: Police State & Civil Rights

A careful study of the FBI’s own data on terrorism in the United States, reported in Trevor Aaronson’s book The Terror Factory, finds one organization leading all others in creating terrorist plots in the United States: the FBI.Imagine an incompetent bureaucrat. Now imagine a corrupt one. Now imagine both combined. You’re starting to get at the image I take away of some of the FBI agents’ actions recounted in this book. Now imagine someone both dumb enough to be manipulated by one of those bureaucrats and hopelessly criminal, often sociopathic, and generally at the mercy of the criminal or immigration courts. Now you’re down to the level of the FBI informant, of which we the Sacred-Taxpayers-Who-Shall-Defund-Our-Own-Retirement employ some 15,000 now, dramatically more than ever before. And we pay them very well.

Then try to picture someone so naive, incompetent, desperate, out-of-place, or deranged as to be manipulable by an FBI informant. Now you’re at the level of the evil terrorist masterminds out to blow up our skyscrapers.

Well, not really. They’re actually almost entirely bumbling morons who couldn’t tie their own shoes or buy the laces without FBI instigation and support. The FBI plants the ideas, makes the plans, provides the fake weapons and money, creates the attempted act of terrorism, makes an arrest, and announces the salvation of the nation.

Over and over again. The procedure has become so regular that intended marks have spotted the sting being worked on them simply by googling the name or phone number of the bozo pretending to recruit them into the terrorist brotherhood, and discovering that he’s a serial informant.

Between 911 and August, 2011, the U.S. government prosecuted 508 people for terrorism in the United States. 243 had been targeted using an FBI informant. 158 had been caught in an FBI terrorism sting. 49 (that we know of, FBI recording devices have completely unbelievable patterns of “malfunctioning”) had encountered an agent provocateur. Most of the rest charged with “terrorism” had little or nothing to do with terrorism at all, most of them charged with more minor offenses like immigration offenses or making false statements. Three or four people out of the whole list appear to be men whom one would reasonably call terrorists in the commonly accepted sense of the word. They intended to and had something at least approaching the capacity to engage in acts of terrorism.

These figures are not far off the percentages of Guantanamo prisoners or drone strike victims believed to be guilty of anything resembling what they’ve been accused of. So, we shouldn’t single out the FBI for criticism. But it should receive its share.
Here’s how U.S. District Judge Colleen McMahon understood a case that seems all too typical:
Citation:
“The essence of what occurred here is that a government, understandably zealous to protect its citizens from terrorism, came upon a man both bigoted and suggestible, one who was incapable of committing an act of terrorism on his own. It created acts of terrorism out of his fantasies of bravado and bigotry, and then made those fantasies come true. . . . I suspect that real terrorists would not have bothered themselves with a person who was so utterly inept.”

When we hear on television that the FBI has prevented a plot to blow up a crowded area of a big U.S. city, we either grow terrified and grateful, or we wait for the inevitable revelation that the FBI created the plot from start to finish, manipulating some poor fool who had zero contact with foreign terrorists and more often than not participated unwittingly or for the money offered him. But even those of us who do the latter might find Aaronson’s survey of this phenomenon stunning.

During some of its heretofore darkest days the FBI didn’t use informants like it does now. J. Edgar Hoover’s informants just observed and reported. They didn’t instigate. That practice took off during the war on drugs in the 1980s. But the assumption that a drug dealer might have done the same thing without the FBI’s sting operation is backed up by some statistics. There is no evidence to back up the idea that the unemployed grocery bagger and video game player who sees visions, has never heard of major Islamic terrorist groups, can’t purchase a gun with thousands of dollars in cash and instructions on how to purchase a gun, understands terrorism entirely from the insights of Hollywood movies, and who has no relevant skills or resources, is going to blow up a building without help from the FBI.

(Which came first, the FBI’s terror factory or Hollywood’s is a moot question now that they feed off each other so well.)

Read this book, I’m telling you, we’re looking at people who’ve been locked away for decades who couldn’t have found their ass with two hands and a map. These cases more than anything else resemble those of mentally challenged innocent men sitting on death rows because they tried to please the police officer asking them to confess to a crime they clearly knew nothing about.

Of course the press conferences announcing the convictions of drug dealers and “terrorists” are equally successful. They also equally announce an ongoing campaign doomed to failure. The campaign for “terrorists” developed under President George W. Bush and expanded, like so much else, under President Barack Obama.

Aaronson spoke with J. Stephen Tidwell, former executive assistant director at the FBI. Tidwell argued that someone thinking about the general idea of committing crimes should be set up and then prosecuted, because as long as they’re not in prison the possibility exists that someone other than the FBI could encourage them to, and assist them in, actually committing a crime. “You and I could sit here, go online, and by tonight have a decent bomb built. What do you do? Wait for him to figure it out himself?”

The answer, based on extensive data, is quite clearly that he will not figure it out himself and act on it. That the FBI has stopped 3 acts of terrorism is believable. But that the FBI has stopped 508 and there wasn’t a 509th is just not possible. The explanation is that there haven’t been 509 or even 243. The FBI has manufactured terrorist plots by the dozens, including most of the best known ones. (And if you watched John Brennan’s confirmation hearing, you know that the underwear bomber and other “attacks” not under the FBI’s jurisdiction have been no more real.)

Arthur Cummings, former executive assistant director of the FBI’s National Security Branch, told Aaronson that the enemy was not Al Qaeda or Islamic Terrorism, but the idea of it. “We’re at war with an idea,” he said. But his strategy seems to be one of consciously attempting to lose hearts and minds. For the money spent on infiltrations and stings, the U.S. government could have given every targeted community free education from preschool to college, just as it could do for every community at home and many abroad by redirecting war spending. When you’re making enemies of people rather than friends, to say that you’re working against an idea is simply to admit that you’re not targeting people based on a judicial review finding any probable cause to legally do so.

The drug war’s failure can be calculated in the presence of drugs, although the profits for prisons and other profiteers aren’t universally seen as failures. The FBI’s counterterrorism can be calculated as a failure largely because of the waste of billions of dollars on nonexistent terrorism. But there’s also the fact that the FBI’s widespread use of informants, very disproportionately in Muslim communities, has made ordinary people who might provide tips hesitant to do so for fear of being recruited as informants.

Thus “counter terrorism” may make it harder to counter terrorism. It may also feed into real terrorism by further enraging people already outraged by U.S. foreign policy. But it’s no failure at all if measured by the dollars flowing into the FBI, or the dollars flowing into the pockets of informants who get paid by commission (that is, based on convictions in court of their marks). Nor do weapons makers, other war profiteers, or other backers of right wing politics in general seem to be objecting in any way to the production of widespread fear and bigotry.

Congressman Stephen Lynch has introduced a bill that would require federal law enforcement agencies to report to Congress twice a year on all serious crimes, authorized or unauthorized, committed by informants (who are often much more dangerous criminals than are those they’re informing on). The bill picked up a grand total of zero cosponsors last Congress and has reached the same mark thus far in the current one.

The corporate media cartel has seen its ratings soar with each new phony incident. Opposition to current practice does not seem to be coming from that quarter.

And let’s all be clear with each other: our society is tolerating this because the victims are Muslims. With many other minority groups we would all be leaping to their defense.

It may be time to try thinking of Muslims as Samaritans, as of course some of them are.

WHAT'S IN THE SECRET DRONE MEMOS?

United States Air Force

By Michael Hirsh and Kristin Roberts National Journal
February 22, 2013

Despite President Obama’s pledge in his State of the Union address to make the drone program “even more transparent to the American people and to the world,” his administration continues to resist efforts by Congress, even from fellow Democrats, to obtain the full range of classified legal memos justifying “targeted killing.”

A key reason for that reticence, according to two sources who have read the memos or are aware of their contents, is that the documents contain secret protocols with foreign governments, including Pakistan and Yemen, as well as “case-specific” details of strikes.

A legal expert outside the government who is intimately familiar with the contents of the memos said the government-to-government accords on the conduct of drone strikes are an important element not contained in the Justice Department “white paper” revealed recently by NBC News. He said it is largely in order to protect this information that the targeted-killing memos drafted by Justice’s Office of Legal Counsel are not being released, and that even the Senate and House Intelligence committees have been allowed to examine only four of the nine OLC memos.
“That is what is missing from the white paper but forms a core part of the memos,” the expert toldNational Journal, speaking on condition of anonymity because the information is classified. He said the administration believes that the protocols would almost certainly leak to the public if they were shared with Congress.

A senator who sits on the Intelligence Committee and has read some of the memos also said that the still-unreleased memos contain secret protocols with the governments of Yemen and Pakistan on how targeted killings should be conducted. Information about these pacts, however, were not in the OLC opinions the senator has been allowed to see. The senator, who also would speak to National Journalonly on condition of anonymity, said the only memos that the committee has been given represent mainly legal analysis justifying the drone strikes, and that the rest contain “case-specific” facts about operations.

It’s not clear how many such secret government-to-government protocols exist. At least some were made with since-deposed dictators such as Ali Abdullah Saleh of Yemen. Others may have been signed with the leaders of Algeria and Mali, the legal expert said. Given the widespread unpopularity of the drone program, the disclosure of these agreements could prove extremely embarrassing both for the United States and partner governments. That’s especially true of Pakistan, where Islamabad’s troubled military alliance with Washington and an intense U.S. drone campaign against Taliban and al-Qaida targets have provoked fierce anti-Americanism.

Even so, last fall, the newly elected leader of Yemen, Abdu Rabbu Mansour Hadi, actually endorsed the U.S. drone program that takes place within his borders.

“They pinpoint the target and have zero margin of error, if you know what target you’re aiming at,” Hadi said at the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington.
Asked about the existence of such protocols, Tommy Vietor, a White House spokesman, said he had no comment but added, “We are having conversations with members of Congress about their requests, and we will continue those conversations.”

The memos released so far largely deal with the legal reasoning behind targeting U.S. citizens abroad who have joined hostile action against the United States, especially radical cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, who was killed by U.S. drone strikes, along with his teenage son, in 2011. The Justice Department white paper summed up many of those arguments, which were drafted by former OLC staffers Martin Lederman and David Barron, among other lawyers. The white paper concludes, controversially, that the U.S. government can order the killing of American citizens if they are believed to be senior leaders of al-Qaida or "an associated force," even if there is no evidence of an imminent plot against the U.S.

In a statement last week, Senate Intelligence Committee Chairwoman Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., said her staff knew of a total of nine OLC memos but had only seen four of them. She said it was only in recent days that “senators on the committee were finally allowed to review two OLC opinions on the legal authority to strike U.S. citizens.” Feinstein added, “We have reiterated our request for all nine OLC opinions—and any other relevant documents—in order to fully evaluate the executive branch’s legal reasoning, and to broaden access to the opinions to appropriate members of the committee staff.”
An Obama administration official who is familiar with the negotiations with Feinstein’s committee indicated that the White House was miffed at efforts by the senator and her staff to obtain all the memos at once, because such efforts play into the Republican strategy of using the dispute to delay the confirmation of John Brennan, Obama’s nominee to head the CIA and the main architect of the drone program, as well as Chuck Hagel as Defense secretary.

“These guys don’t even know what the hell they’re asking for,” the official said.

They think they can ‘reverse-engineer’ the [drone] program by asking for more memos, but these are not necessarily things that exist or are relevant.... What they’re asking for is to get more people read into very sensitive programs. That’s not a small decision.”

The administration is engaged in a serious internal debate over the release of more information, with Harold Koh, the State Department legal adviser, said to be in favor of doing so and other officials aligned with the CIA still somewhat opposed. Under the CIA, the program has been covert, making the administration’s efforts at transparency all the more difficult—one reason that Brennan is said to want to shift responsibility over to the Pentagon.

A former State Department legal counsel said that even if the memos contain secret protocols, there’s no reason why that information couldn’t be “redacted” and the rest of the memos released. “The White House and DoJ have redacted especially sensitive information in other cases,” he said, in particular during the George W. Bush administration.

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iran’s powerful Revolutionary Guard has begun a three-day ground and air military exercise aimed at upgrading its combat readiness.

State TV says the drills involve ground forces of the Guard, Iran’s most powerful military force, around the city of Sirjan in the country’s south. It showed tanks and artillery attacking hypothetical enemy positions.

The broadcast says the aim of the exercise is to upgrade the capabilities of the Iranian forces. It did not elaborate.

The war games are taking place amid escalating tensions between Iran and the West over Tehran’s disputed nuclear program.

Israel has hinted that it may take military action if talks fail to get Iran stop its uranium enrichment program.

The US and its allies accuse Iran of seeking nuclear weapons, a charge Tehran denies.

EX-MEMBER: MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD HAS SECRET SOCIETIES IN 80 NATIONS, INCLUDING U.S.

Special to WorldTribune.com

ABU DHABI — A defector has exposed the Muslim Brotherhood’s campaign to dominate the Gulf.

Tharwat Al Kherbawy told a conference in Abu Dhabi that the Brotherhood, with headquarters in Egypt, was infiltrating Western and Arab states by recruiting their Muslim citizens. Al Kherbawy said the Brotherhood established secret societies in more than 80 countries, with recruits pledged to violence.

Tharwat Al Kherbawy: “They are taught to regard the movement as their home and that standing to the national anthem of their country is polytheism.”

“So these novices are raised on obedience and allegiance to the supreme guide, accepting no criticism of him or his actions,” Al Kherbawy told the conference, entitled “Challenges and Threats posed by the Muslim Brotherhood to UAE and Countries of the Region.”

“They are taught to regard the movement as their home and that standing to the national anthem of their country is polytheism.”

In an address to a conference on Feb. 24, Al Kherbawy said the Brotherhood has rejected loyalty to any host country. He cited the refusal of new Brotherhood parliamentarians to stand during the playing of the Egyptian national anthem in 2011. Instead, the Islamist deputies stood during the United States anthem when they later met the American ambassador in Cairo.

Al Kherbawy said the Brotherhood recruits teenagers in a ceremony in which they kneel before a masked member and take a vow over a gun and Koran. He said the recruit, whose progress is monitored, is warned that any violation of orders means death. The movement has been cautious in promoting members in an effort to protect the Brotherhood from infiltration by intelligence services.

In late 2012, the UAE reported the arrest of 94 suspected Brotherhood members accused of trying to overthrow the Gulf Cooperation Council state.

Officials said the Brotherhood marked a leading threat to the UAE as well as such neighboring states as Kuwait.

“It does not believe in the sovereignty of the state,” UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan said.

Al Kherbawy said the Brotherhood presence in any country consists of three units. They included a unit comprised of local residents, a secret Egyptian cell, and what Al Kherbawy termed an international group that reports to superiors in the American city of New York.

“For Emirati members of the Muslim Brotherhood, it is a proxy allegiance oath, whereby these members swear allegiance before another veteran leader in the UAE, who in turn swears allegiance before the supreme guide in Cairo,” Al Kherbawy told the conference, organized by the Al Mezmaah Studies and Research Center at Zayed University.

OBAMA, KERRY GIVING $60M MORE OF YOUR TAX DOLLARS TO SYRIAN JIHADISTS

Flashback: Syrian rebels: “When we finish with Assad, we will fight the U.S.!”

via U.S. Pledges Food, Medical Aid and $60 Million to Syrian Opposition – NYTimes.com.

Secretary of State John Kerry said on Thursday that the United States would provide food rations and medical supplies to the Free Syrian Army, the military wing of the opposition that is fighting to depose Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

The assistance represents the first time that the United States has publicly committed itself to sending nonlethal support for armed factions that are battling the Assad government in the two-year-old uprising.

But the supplies Mr. Kerry announced fell well short of the weapons and equipment Syrian rebels have requested. And it remained unclear how such modest support might change Mr. Assad’s calculations about his ability to retain power, which Mr. Kerry has repeatedly said is Mr. Assad’s goal.

In addition to the nonlethal aid, the United States is providing $60 million in assistance to help the political wing of the Syrian anti-Assad coalition improve the delivery of basic services like sanitation and education in areas it has already wrested from the government’s control.

The U.S. can’t even provide these basic services to its many of its own citizens, WTF are we wasting money attempting to do it in Syria? Is it time to stop paying federal taxes?

Mr. Assad is “out of time and must be out of power,” Mr. Kerry said, after meeting with Moaz al-Khatib, the leader of the Syrian opposition coalition, during a conference in Rome of the so-called “Friends of Syria” countries that support the anti-Assad uprising in Syria.

Defending the limited program of assistance to the Free Syrian Army, Mr. Kerry said that other countries would also provide help and that the “totality” of the effort would make an impression on Mr. Assad.

Interesting since just a week or so ago Kerry Called for Negotiated Solution in Syria.

In a press conference with Jordanian Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh on Feb. 13, Kerry said: “[M]y goal is to see us have a negotiated outcome and minimize the violence. It may not be possible. I’m not going to stand here and tell you that’s automatic or easily achievable. There are a lot of forces that have been unleashed here over the course of the last months. But we owe it to ourselves, we owe it to the Syrian people and the region and the world, to make every effort to explore ways to achieve that negotiated outcome. And we intend to do that.”

Apparently funding the overthrow of the government is Kerry’s idea of a negotiated solution.

And once again the NYT ‘Forgets’ U.S. Already Arming Syrian Rebels, With Most Weapons Going to Jihadists. Obama has even allowed Syrians in the U.S. to give money and arms to the Syrian “rebels” including al Qaeda.

As we noted in a previous post

Citation:
U.S. Solicitor General Elena Kagan [now a justice on the SCoTUS] urged the court to uphold the broad sweep of the terrorism law and to permit prosecutions of anyone who gives any support to a terrorist group. She discounted the “supposed First Amendment claims” raised by human-rights advocates.

“Hezbollah builds bombs. Hezbollah also builds homes. What Congress decided was when you help Hezbollah build homes, you are also helping Hezbollah build bombs. That’s the entire theory behind the statute.”

Justice Antonin Scalia agreed with Kagan and said he saw no constitutional problems with the antiterrorism law. “If you provide any aid” to them, it “furthers their terrorist activity,” he said.

And Clinton herself has admitted that groups on the U.S. terror list are aiding and supporting the so-called Syrian rebels. Watch the video. (if anyone can clip it to youtube that would be great)
Citation:
“We have a very dangerous set of actors in the region, Al-Qaeda, Hamas, and those who are on our terrorist list, to be sure, supporting – claiming to support the opposition.”

So, is sending money to aid terrorist groups a crime or not? Apparently not when the government does it. Sequester plunder to Islamic nations ASAP.
